Proposal for Identifying Ourselves
Altitis Acquired replied to Z'ythe Solwind's topic in RP Discussion
So, I've been trying out this /lfm to show I am IC and even suggested it in /shout, presenting the idea to others. So far, most people seem against it. -
You mean MALE Au Ra, right? They're the ones with the hourglass frame. ;P

Proposal for Identifying Ourselves
Altitis Acquired replied to Z'ythe Solwind's topic in RP Discussion
/lfm... Looking For Mates... For mating... *wink wink* It's a cool idea though. I wonder if it catches on. I might do it. What symbol is it though? -
I think it's awesome you guys are doing this! Though my Au Ra, Vachir, is carving his own path in life and thus won't join you guys, I still think this is a great idea and I wish you all good luck with it. ^^

Why Did You Choose Your Character's Race?
Altitis Acquired replied to Madda's topic in RP Discussion
I have always loved dark themes and demonic beings. And the Au Ra, though not demons, do have the look of a demonic being, especially the Xaela with the dark scales and horns. Along with dark themes and demonic beings, I have a thing for the goth-punk-emo style, I have a thing for vampires and blood, and love crimson red hair... Putting all that into a bowl and knead it together, and voila! Vachir was born! And no, he's not a vampire or a demon/voidsent. Don't worry. -
"Ugh I need to update my character's Wiki"
Altitis Acquired replied to Berrod Armstrong's topic in RP Discussion
I had that too, but my alternate use of the wiki is to kinda remind myself of Vachir's past and traits etc. Like, if I can't remember his twin sister's name, I can just look it up on his wiki. -
"Ugh I need to update my character's Wiki"
Altitis Acquired replied to Berrod Armstrong's topic in RP Discussion
Just updated mine with slight changes and additions, but nothing big. As for meta-gaming, I have Vachir's entire background written there, and I have yet to be approached by someone who pretended to know it ICly without having Vachir tell them. So from my experience, people have either been good at not meta-gaming, or just not read my wiki, though I have posted the (tiny)URL for it in my search info for anyone to read. I can also imagine people looking at Vachir's background info and go "lol, too long, didn't read". And I have gone with the standard template, so I guess it looks boring which could also make people avoid it. -

All cleaned up. I'm always on the fence about whether or not I want to use the new combed style. It makes me look like a pretty tumblr boy, and I both like it and hate it at the same time. I was torn as well. I feel like it fits Graeham since I'm going for the classically handsome stereotypical knight look with him anyway. I do wish we'd get a bit more variety in terms of short hairstyles for men though. I feel like if I said something naughty, he would take me over his lap and give me a proper spanking... not that that's a bad thing. :3 -

Eorzean Aetheists and The Believability of Such Characters

@LiadansWhisper: No, it's alright, I didn't mean to discuss the movie, I just took an example from it that I thought was fitting the topic. ^^ -

Eorzean Aetheists and The Believability of Such Characters
Altitis Acquired replied to Dat Oni's topic in FFXIV Discussion
That wasn't the intention. I just wanted to bring an example I thought fit perfectly with the whole "Aetheists in Eorzea" topic. The point was, as said, they know about the deities and all that jazz, they just don't have faith in them and would rather be without them. -
Eorzean Aetheists and The Believability of Such Characters
Altitis Acquired replied to Dat Oni's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I'm going to sit on my hands and not type the rant that I want to type about the holes, contradictions, and terrible theology in the Constantine movie. Because no one wants that. Lack of belief in the face of irrefutable proof is almost as religious/ritualistic as belief itself. Because you're refusing to believe something despite having irrefutable proof that it exists. The point isn't that he chooses to ignore the "fact" that he knows there is a God, that angels and demons exist etc., but rather that he doesn't have the faith in God. He isn't denying their existence, he just doesn't worship God. That's the point. -
Eorzean Aetheists and The Believability of Such Characters
Altitis Acquired replied to Dat Oni's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Have you guys seen the movie "Constantine" with Keanu Reeves? In that there's a scene where Constantine talks to the half-angel Gabriel, trying to bargain a way into Heaven (he is a suicide survivor which means he is doomed to go to Hell). There's a line perfectly describing how an "Aetheist", or rather, a non-believer could work in Eorzea. Constantine asks what God wants and Gabriel says "The usual; self-sacrifice, belief...", to which Constantine says "I believe, for Christ's sake." where Gabriel responds "No, you know. There's a difference. You've seen it.". Same could apply to "Aetheists" in Eorzea. They know about the Twelve and their existence. But they don't believe in them. They don't worship them. They might even think the world would be better without them. They are non-believers, as it were. They know, but they don't believe... if that makes sense. -
Maybe your SO left you.

Does your Character aspire to be a Hero?
Altitis Acquired replied to -no longer matters-'s topic in RP Discussion
No, not really. Vachir isn't a bad guy, he just doesn't see the point of "fame and glory". He just does what he does, and if it helps some people, then that's nice. -

Othard is an entire continent on its own, and not just another region of Eorzea. That Othard has its own language wouldn't be all that far-fetched. And because Othard and Doma is very Asian/Japanese inspired, then it's only logical that their mothertongue is as well. Seeing as the jobclass "Ninja" originates from Doma and along with it comes abilities like "Fuma Shuriken", "Hyoton", "Suiton" etc, which are ALL Japanese words, making the assumption that Domans speak Japanese makes sense. Eorzean is the "Common" language, and maybe they teach it in Doma as well, or they have learned to speak it by the Garleans, who seem to speak it as well, while being under their invasion (20 years of oppression is reason enough to learn your enemies' language). I wouldn't be surprised if each race had their own language, but because the Hyur race is the most common one, their language was the one which became the "Common" tongue of Eorzea. Kinda like how English (as well as Spanish and Chinese) is one of the most common spoken language worldwide, because it has become an international way of communication, yet each country still has their own individual language as well. So yeah, for the people of Othard, whether they are Doman Hyurs or Au Ra, to speak to eachother in their mothertongue and showing so by putting it in <> brackets, indicating that only others who understand the Othard/Doman tongue, is alright. And those who do not understand would most likely hear them talk in a Japanese fashion. Personally, when my Au Ra is explaining something to an Eorzean, he uses a few Japanese terms. For example: - "I am trained in the way of the Ninja, what you call 'assassin'." - "In Doma I saw ninjas using a 'dagger' with extra prongs on to disarm their foes. It was called a 'sai'." - "Ah, you are proficient in the use of a 'naginata'? I believe you call it a 'lance'." However, going full on Japanese on someone and expecting them to know what you are saying, just because they RP someone from Othard/Doma... that's maybe going a bit too far, as I would think most people don't know Japanese other than certain words.

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Altitis Acquired replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
This is just me whining, because it's a tiny little thing and I understand why it is a thing. I am house-sitting this weekend, and I was trying to log into the game when this warning pops up that my account is currently restricted due to me trying to login on an unfamiliar wifi. Again, I can understand why they do that, but it's just so annoying that I have to go in and change my password every time I go and play someplace else outside of my own wifi. /whine -
Torn between hair... Halp!
Altitis Acquired replied to -no longer matters-'s topic in FFXIV Discussion
I wish there were male version of both those hairstyles. They are definately awesome. I lean mostly towards the first one, the flip, though. ^^ -
In the official cutscenes, the "main character" (the "official" WoL) is displayed as a Midlander Hyur Warrior (though he changed to a Dragoon in Heavensward). He is affectionately referred to as the "Derplander." Oh, I always thought his name was Meteor, due to this: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Adventurer_(Final_Fantasy_XIV)
