  1. As someone wandering about FC-less, but have led Guilds in the past in other games, I gravitate to groups with stringent application processes. For one, it tells me that they take care in crafting a good environment for their members, and in the case of story-driven FCs, care that new players that pass the process will likely fit in and hit the ground running in their respective storyline, with much less risk of being disruptive or out of place. This is important for smaller groups. As many others have pointed out, people play their characters very differently, with some breaking the mold a tad to create something really fun and unique, while others shape theirs to fit within the box that is the world and gain their enjoyment in that way. Both are very different and viable takes on RP, but both are often mutually exclusive from each other in my experience.
  2. I'm kinda curious about Yugiri's Roegadyn companion. He was given a Doma name, Gotetsu, so it is a bit different from the usual. A new clan entirely? Or a Hellsguard/Seawolf that decided to translate his name to the local naming conventions. As to the content craziness. Whatever happens we now have two possible avenues to expand upon storywise. I'm real curious about how the story will make us head to the East. Honestly I'm quite excited since we are back to Garleans again, and we are actually going up against a Royal this time too.
  3. Tagyr

    Hi there!

Welcome! I've recently come back from a WoW period myself. It's a good time to play catch up as even now I've still got countless things to do.
  4. Hello! I spoke you to awhile ago (Gold Shade). I have a tricky question in regards to activity. Dunno if your members assorted timezones account for this, but I am a JST (Japan standard time), which is somewhere in the middle of things timezone wise I guess. I play often on my nights and a lot on the weekends, but as far as intersecting times it might be sporadic, though doubtless my timezone would cover someones morning/night because I am a nightowl myself (which'd be US mornings/EU Afternoons), even for a little. Would that be a deterrent if I was to apply (if \when you open recruitment again)?.
  5. Well there's some names I haven't seen in awhile! Good to know you are still about. Will definitely add you in game.
  6. This'd probably be the third time I've post a thread in this section. Each time has a few more years in between. The first, was in 1.0, a few weeks before the first release when I was a listless individual looking for something to do in life. The 2nd time was around 3 years ago, around when ARR came out and I was in University. Now I'm back again. Posting here as a returning player, now from the home of FF, Japan, acting as an Assistant English Teacher. IRL Information Over! I'm Tagyr. My main toon is a Hellsguard who went by the name of Thagyr Rhaldgrid, though with RP having gone on for a few years I might change his name to get a fresh start (as well as conform to Hellsguard naming conventions). If you remember me, that's awesome! I'm glad I left some impression with his gruff attitude and apparently shiny eyes. I've played and RPed across a number of MMOs including WoW and Aion. But my RP started when I was 14 playing a text based MUD called Achaea, which taught me a fair bit about how to describe a world and it's people in pure words. Looking to get into RP again. It's an itch that hasn't been scratched by gaming's modern trends, and I remember my time in FFXIV fondly. Though. The game is probably a different beast more now than ever. So I'll be the big red Roe getting lost and fumbling with new concepts till he gets his feet wet, while probably filling the vast deficiency in Roegadyn population that I assume is still present. Looking forward to meeting you all either as fresh faces or old ones. ADD: Might have to update my signature and profile. TIS OLD
  7. Thought it was a female Voldemort for a minute. Just missing the nose.
  8. Drawing on the previous games is a FF staple. Though I won't object to an Auron outfit...only if they introduce Seymour/Yuna outfits for Summoners.
  9. As an Australian when I ever see a red marker I need to be out and halfway to Narnia to avoid whatever is associated with it. It isn't so bad, though I fear for when and if I ever start doing harder dungeons/raids. You really start noticing how bad it can get when you try to dodge the worst of it, like that cyclops in Coerthas with the 100 tonne insta-death swing.
  10. Dark Knight - 30 Marauder, 15 Conjurer pleeease.
  11. Yeah, Miyazaki collaborated in a lot of his movies, but he had creative control over the entire process. In any case, he has placed a very high bar for Ghibli's future with him stepping out the picture. That said, I can't think of anyone more deserving of a nice retirement.
  12. Apparently he popped up on a lot of servers. All ending in the same fashion, he was nearly or close to dead, but he just decided he was bored and killed everyone in a flashy display before vanishing. Players are wondering if they should have /kneel in order to avoid instant death like they used to. It highlighted an annoyance since Odin, despite his importance and power, isn't a priority render in comparison to dozens upon dozens of players. Causing him to go invisible if someone was to move too far away from him.
  13. Carbuncles are shiny little fluffy pets, while on top of that being pretty useful. Whenever there are a bunch of them out it looks like the beginnings of some kinda miniature rave show. As a MRD I find the little buggers interesting. It has helped since I am learning to tank, and in both instances there was a Topaz out. I wasn't aware that they had so much Enmity generation though, I was just thinking I wasn't geared/doing my job right when I could claw mobs off the shiny punching bag.
  14. My 1.0 collectors is still registered to me. However, yet again they tempt me with something new . I also found it funny that a swimsuit location is ominously named Bloodshore.
  15. Well, it did take them awhile to appear, and as per the description they are shy. Perhaps they are extremely self-conscious of hygiene by nature, which may include wondering about what microbes exist and how it is best to avoid getting them on their tail, or hands, or face... Maybe this is the real reason they are so shy. The world is much too dirty.
  16. The 1st time was 2 years ago. Still kept the beautiful drawing of Thagyr by Noelle from back then for my avatar! Realm Reborn has me intrigued and thus I return to the fold, older, not so much wiser, and lugging a University workload. I see I'm not the only one who has come back from the past. I recognize some names here! So hello again! Looking forward to the stories! (Oh hey, signature is still there too. Though Baltazar's is long since retired )
  17. The Good (positives)[*] [*] Crafting is fun [*] Grouping is fun (as it should be) [*] [*][/list:u] The Bad (negatives)[*] [*] As a conjurer killing stuff 'too' fast is detrimental in getting skill points. [*] Killing stuff 'too' slow as a conjurer puts them at risk due to their squishy armor. [*] Archer class is somewhat expensive. [*] Crafting can be extremely frustrating at times due to the invisible numbers game it plays. [*] No real incentive to group? [*] The bugs, oh the bugs.... [*][/list:u] The Not-So-Ugly (thoughts, hopes, neutrality, etc.)[*] [*] Most of the stuff above regarding casters is balancing issues with the random number system behind skill points. [*] They seem to be aware of the crafting annoyances. [*] Bugs seem to be aware of if they gave us 30 free days.. [*][/list:u]
  18. MMO Survey Please answer the following questions. If there is any question you are unsure of, or do not want to answer, feel free to leave it blank. Thank you for your time. 1) Over the past 10 years, how many MMORPGs have you played? a) One b) Two c) Three <- d) Four e) Five or more 2) How many hours do you spend online gaming per week? a) 1-3 hours b) 4-6 hours c) 7-9 hours <- d) 10-12 hours e) 13+ hours 3) In an MMORPG, do you interact with individuals you know outside the game? (i.e. in real life) a) Yes <- b) No 4) What is most important in keeping your interest in an MMORPG? Select all that apply. If you choose Other, please specify. a) Story <- b) Graphics c) Environment/World <- d) Fun Factor <- e) Continual Game Evolution (content patches, updates, expansions, etc) <- f) Community <- g) Other: Music <- 5) Do you believe it is possible for MMORPGs to be addictive? a) Yes <- b) No c) Not sure 6) If you answered yes to question 5, have you or anyone you known been addicted to an MMORPG? a) Yes <- b) No c) Not sure 7) How important is communication with others in an MMORPG? a) Very important <- b) Important c) Unimportant d) Very Unimportant e) Not sure 8) Do you feel you have made valuable relationships in any MMORPGs? How would you characterize these relationships in contrast to those in real-life? Are there any differences? Similarities? Please elaborate. I've managed to make a number of friends over the years in gaming. Mostly in my own area though as we tend to play together. But apart from that, so far relationships with people overseas have been only during the timespan of the game I played/they played, but I enjoyed them as well all played something we enjoyed in the time we had. 9) Do MMORPGs offer modes of communication or support you are unable to find in your geographic location, life situation, or circumstances right now? Please elaborate. No. Nothing really special. I speak to the people I know in game as well as on MSN and sometimes phone. 10) What methods do you use to communicate with others in MMORPGs? Please select all that apply. If you select Other, please specify. a) Friend List <- b) Chat Channel <- c) Voice Communication <- d) Guild/Linkshell/Corporation/Clan <- e) Forum <- f) RL Interaction (i.e. physical get togethers, internet cafes, etc) <- g) Other _________________________________________ 11) Do you view MMORPGs as a potential mode of story-telling, an alternative to book, film, or television? Why or why not? MMORPGs to me lack the capacity for engaging storytelling due to the constraints of games being a form of active entertainment. If you aren't pressing buttons you aren't seeing the 'story' of you slaying mighty dragons just like the thousands of other players like yourself. It's a game, and they want you to have fun, thusly on top of that in gaming there is rarely a sense of any emotional journey that you get from reading a book. As they always want you to be happy. But, I admit sometimes a story does appear in certain games and the game becomes fun and emotionally engaging because of it. So they DO have the potential to shape a story regardless of the current trend. 12) What environments do you enjoy experiencing in MMORPGs? Why do you enjoy those particular kinds? a) Fantasy worlds b) Science fiction worlds c) Contemporary realistic worlds d) Historical worlds e) Frightening/ horrific worlds Any and all worlds. Though I admit my tastes tend to lie within the Fantasy and Science Fiction due to the fiction some worlds create in an effort to explain the workings behind fantastic technologies, magic and whatever else exists. I do enjoy fictional reasoning behind these things 13) Do you role-play in game? a) Yes <- b) No c) Sometimes 14) Does your in-game avatar represent you in real life, either in physical appearance, personality, conversation, or other actions? Why or why not? Nope, I'd be too hard to play. 15) Do you play MMORPGs to avoid/cope with problems in real life (i.e. school procrastination, illness, marital problems, etc)? a) Yes b) No c) Sometimes <- d) Not sure 16) Do you believe that MMORPGs can serve an escapist function, that is, a coping mechanism for real life stress, boredom, etc? Why or why not? Of course! The trend of being 'immersed' within a game serves just such a function. It's meant to be a method of coping with real life issues that you may want to forget while being absorbed in an activity. But all recreational hobbies tend to be like that. 17) What do you believe is the future of MMORPGs? Please elaborate. I believe that eventually systems will be in place that allow players to shape their 'game' world in any setting. That there will be no rules and no boundaries. The most memorable times I remember is when things happened within a game that were never intended. Like the 'plague' that gripped WoW a few years back. It was never intended and impacted the gameworld greatly. Forcing players to react in their own fashions. Individuals tried to help, others ran and hid alone or with friends out in the wilderness to escape being infected. While some players enjoyed spreading it. Because of one glitch, and one action the entire world was turned on its head. The future of MMORPGs to me, is that players will eventually have the power to do things like that...and that they will be an INTENDED feature.
  19. They should have just released both the PS3 and PC versions at the same date. Even if it was next year. Taking the time to have a good long testing phase. Like it has been said, this is pretty much beta. Still full of glitches. I've been unable to get on my main account for 3 days now and the responses SE has given have not even scratched it.
  20. Curiosity BUMP, is this still on? Delays? :bounce:
  21. "Feel the fire, let it flow up from your stomach and to your chest. Guide it through your arms...not too fast! we don't want it flying out and hitting someone. When you think you have a good feel, extend it out through your hands and gather it between them. Do NOT go that far if you don't feel ready". I did as instructor Torag said and channelled the energy. I felt the warm energy flow up my being and into my fingertips. Not directing it anywhere the energy cycled around and back down only to repeat the process once again. I let this continue for several moments. The feeling was remarkably different than casting a spell offensively. To do that one simply gathered enough aether of the element they wish to cast within themselves before releasing it in one explosive burst. This however was a continued channel, rather than a build up it was a flow, allowing the elemental aether to swirl its way around your body much like a river. Taking a deep breath I extended the flow past my skin I let the aether manifest itself in the physical realm as fire which I held between my hands. It started small but as I opened the flow more the flame grew to a decent sized ball. The room the class sat in grew brighter and warmer as the other trainees managed the same. We all sat in a circle surrounding the grizzled instructor who kept a critical eye on the proceedings. "Right, now I want to see how long you can hold it. If you feel strained let the flow slowly return inside. Don't even bother looking at how the others are doing, this is all about you". A sharp tap at the door almost broke my concentration. Torag swore under his breath for a moment before motioning with his hands for us to finish the exercise. Once all fire was extinguished he got to his feet, stormed through the door and slammed it shut behind him. "Don't you know better than to interrupt this class you stupid git! could've had some poor sod burnt to death here!" I heard a subdued reply and then complete silence for a few moments before the door opened once again to allow the instructors head to poke through. "Something I need to deal with, you all sit there and don't do anything! if I see any scorch marks on the walls when I get back you'd better be halfway to Hells door before I find out cause I'll have worse in store...got it!", he growled before slamming the door again. As the sounds of footsteps grew quiet the class finally broke their silence and the room was filled with the sound of chatter. I fell flat on my back on the cold stone floor and let the heat I felt seep out of me and into the rock. "Wonder what happened?" "Don't know, don't really care. I mean how many chances do we get a break from Torag", I replied, turning my head to raise a questioning eyebrow at the source of the question. Vaegyr grinned at me from his own spot lying on the floor. "Ohoh, so is the sun gifted Thagyr all snuffed out of flame already? What a poor example you are making to the rest of us tsk tsk". I spun on my back to try and punch him but he scooted out of reach. "But seriously, Torag never skimps out on classes. And people do know better than to interrupt. Must've been something pretty bad", he said as he raised himself into a sitting position. "Torag is one of the best conjurers we have, someone may have just broke a leg or something and there isn't another healer available". I busied myself studying the mural we had carved on the ceiling. A grand picture of Azeyma the Warden, hands spread wide in order to encompass the sun, which by magic glowed a soft orange color in order to provide the room with light. Her position is one we mimicked as we attempted to invoke the fire within ourselves in order to hold it within our hands much as she does in the picture. A small tribute to the Keeper of the Sun and a vital skill needed to be a part of the ceremonies throughout our little culture. "Doesn't take a master to heal a leg, bet I could do it" "You haven't even got your soul color in your fire yet, you need a bit more practice before fiddling with other people", I replied. Immediately as the words left my mouth I knew it'd regret it. Vaegyr had one issue and that was his pride in the magical arts. Coming from a talented family of conjurers he constantly saw himself as some kind of future prodigy for our race. He worked hard at it and was quite good, but he had a competitive streak that grated on a lot of nerves... "Maybe my soul is just too complicated, with someone like Torag breathing down my neck how could I even concentrate on manifesting it", he shot back at me and already he had raised his hands in the position and closed his eyes. "Hey now don't be stupid, you know what he said about practicing without him near!", I hissed, trying not to alarm the other classmates. My words fell on deaf ears as his hands already began to radiate a soft glow. The light had already alerted the rest of the room and those who were closest to us backed away frantically. First thing we were taught before even attempting this was the fire was as dangerous as any thrown by a conjurer. Uncontrolled it killed just as easily. The glow intensified and slivers of visible aether began to congeal in the centre of his palms and had already began to ascend to the centre between his outstretched hands. My mind raced attempting to think of a method to subdue him but the risk of him losing concentration was too dangerous. "By the Twelve Vaegyr stop... before it gets too far... you might kill someone", I spoke as slow as I could, pleading. "Heh, I have this", his face, one of triumph as the energies swirled into a ball of flame switch to annoyance as he took notice that it had no special color. His focus intensified as he pushed more energy into the ball and it grew quickly. Embers sprouted wildly out of its swirling form, threatening to burn anyone they touched. The other classmates had already frantically scrambled for the door. But as they reached for it someone opened it from the other side. Torag stood framed in the passage for just a moment before he rushed to Vaegyr and placed one open palm upon his head. Vaegyr looked confused for a second before his eyes widened. "No I almost have it, I can feel it, NO!" A bright flash forced me to shield my eyes and silence ensued. As I opened my eyes slowly I took in the form of Torag sitting beside Vaegyr, now sprawled on the floor cradling his head. We were alone in the room, as the classmates had already left for fear of their lives. Torag, a stern and unyielding teacher, looked surprisingly calm. It seemed eons before he spoke. "You, have threatened the lives of not only yourself, but everyone else that was in this room. Of all my days I have not seen anyone so stupid, so inconsiderate for others wellbeing", he took a deep breath and sighed. "You are banned from classes, you are not to be taught by anyone, not even your closest friends or family. You are not to conjure anything within our walls. The elemental arts are forbidden to you" He stood and walked over to me and yanked me to my feet. He led me to the hallway without even looking back. I glanced back at my friends form, which seemed almost frozen in its position, hands clutching his head and mouth opened but no sound coming out. "Now lay there and think about what you did", Torag muttered as he closed the door behind him. As we walked quietly down the hallway the silence was broken by a scream of rage and anguish that reverberated through the rocky caverns. As we exited the training areas Torag finally let go and demanded I explain what happened fully. He said I was wise not to have interfered when it went too far. Feeling for my friend I opened my mouth to ask why such a harsh punishment was imposed, but he simply shook his head and told me to go home. Little did I know back then that my teacher saw something that I never did. Something that'd I would soon learn myself.
  22. Animal Activists are everywhere! To me the kittens seemed to be having fun. He posts a 2nd video with them just destroying the box anyway as compensation
  23. Before gaming, enjoyment was simple. All it took was a stick, and a box full o'kittens.
  24. So far for names. Bam Bam - blonde haired lalafel - marauder Adolf Hitler - Another lalafel Some are funny, some are just sad.
