Alien? Fair Folk? Nah, Elezen have yaoi anatomy.

Ah, looks like people were way ahead of my suggestions on this one. Desire and/or necessity breeds innovation, or something like that. Good to know for the future, I guess. My Free Company has held meetings in some of those spots, and I'm sure we've driven off our fair share of ERPers by doing so.

From an out-of-universe perspective: Seeker gender politics are kind of messed up from what we've seen of them, and things are skewed in favor of dude Seekers. It's also what we're given to work with in terms of canon lore. The one in-game example of a Nunh is decidedly the leader of his tribe politically and culturally, and though his position isn't secure and has as much to do with respect from his followers as it does with his having defeated the previous Nunh, he's still living in what appears to be for all intents and purposes a society where the Nunh is the leader and the only ones who have a shot at being the leader are the Tias. In-character, we've got complete freedom to either accept or challenge the norms of Seeker (and Keeper) society, and that'd probably be pretty interesting. There's a lot of room for conflict between the matriarchal Keepers and the patriarchal Seekers, considering most raised in the respective societies would have an opinion about which group is in the right in terms of how things are run. It'd be especially interesting for characters who come from a Seeker parent and a Keeper parent! For that matter, are there Miqo'te who defect from their tribe to live with the other one, rather than take to the city and abandon traditional societal norms? Seeker women who want a shot at authority and seek to join up with Keeper clans, or Keeper men who take up the 'Tia' name and try to challenge a Nunh so they can be in charge of their own tribe? And like has been said, there is a lot of space to play Nunhs in various ways. U'odh is the one canon example, and he's very much a standard tribal patriarch figure. That's an option. If you feel inclined, you could play a Nunh who took his position because he wants to have kids, or because he wants an excuse to sleep around and flaunt it to others. You could play a Nunh who doesn't care at all for the breeding bit of his role, and just wants to improve things for his tribe by being a good leader- or even views siring children as a distasteful duty, rather than a benefit of being a Nunh. You could play a Nunh from a Seeker tribe where the women hold the real power, and the Nunh is just the fellow they decided was the best option to have kids with when the time comes. You can play it as creepy or non-creepy as you want to, in the end. It's just important to keep in mind that flagging yourself in such a position is going to invite opinions, and the way you RP a Nunh is going to invite opinions as well. If you play a womanizer or a scumbag Nunh, people will react like they typically do to figures of authority who are scumbags or womanizers. There are going to be people who are critical of the entire system on which Seeker society operates. It's not your job to convince them that Seeker society is awesome and great and they should love it, but you can try if you feel compelled. Conflict breeds interesting RP.

Updated to reflect the existence of my alt and some slightly changed details in the body of the text.

I have a Miqo'te alt. Why? He was originally going to be a Hyur, but I decided against it for a couple reasons- namely that there are no Hyur in my Free Company, and I thought it would be odd to go against the grain of a group that is almost entirely Elezen, Miqo'te, and Roegadyn by making a Hyur, and that I have plans to make... yet another alt who is a Hyur and whose role, design, and backstory makes it a little more imperative to make him such. In the case of my alt, he has a design that translated fairly easily across Hyur, Miqo'te, Elezen, and Lalafell, so my options were fairly open. Since my main is an Elezen and my intended backup alt is going to be a Hyur, a Miqo'te seemed like the most straightforward option. I guess my one qualm about making him one was, honestly, the prolific number of Miqo'te characters already present in the game and on the server. Second-largest population after Hyur and all, as of last survey, right? And I typically don't favor going for the most popular options unless I can do something fun and creative with them.

Well, a facet of this certainly popped up yesterday when we ran into each other at Camp Drybone. OOC, I had my character in Immortal Flames gear for the numbers, since I was leveling him as a Thaumaturge. He's a Flame Sergeant. ICly, he's got nothing to do with the Immortal Flames- he's an actor/criminal who's never served in the military in his life. So the obvious explanation was a costume/disguise, rather than "oh, I also serve in the Immortal Flames". I imagine there may be others in the game who'd be interested in RPing people who are faking involvement in one of the Grand Companies for a variety of reasons, even. As for the direct subject of your post, I think that's an interesting challenge. RP can mean that your character isn't actually bound to the role of "adventurer" or being in an adventurer brigade, I'd imagine, but the issue of being an officer without actual tangible subordinates seems a bit more prickly. There is of course the option to have one's underlings be "offscreen" and just implied through the text of your RP, or to be gradually assembled from actual players. The FC thing isn't a bad idea, if one can pull it off. The question of how one would actually play a Grand Company officer, of course, is a different kettle of fish entirely, and one that I am not entirely sure I'm qualified to comment on.

I don't ERP. I haven't ERPed before in my life, and frankly, I'm not terribly interested in it. I know people who do ERP, and I also know people who wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole, and I respect both categories equally. I want to see both sides feeling comfortable and happy with their situation in regards to RP on their server. So following some fairly simple guidelines for privacy as it is allowed by the game should neither be hard nor objectionable to anybody, right? It's straightforward. Keep it out of public spaces/channels. /tell or /party are your friend, unless you've got an IC, ERP-friendly linkshell or free company to do it in. I find it unlikely that you do, but, well. Stranger things yet have to be seen. And if you're going to be getting characters undressed and up close and personal for the sake of it, there are private corners of the game's world where it's less likely you'll be stumbled upon by random adventurers. FC housing, once that is within your FC's price range. Spots like the Hermit's Hovel in Outer La Noscea- hot springs like Camp Bronze Lake, but without being an aetheryte/quest hub. The southern reaches of the Sagolii Desert- unless someone's going there to get a Cactuar Cutting minion, ain't nobody going to bother with that wilderness. Lots of spots and corners of Coerthas where the FATEs don't go. Some of the outer regions of Black Brush- there are buildings off to the side unrelated to the materia questline which are pretty much always empty. The Sanctum of the Twelve, if you're feeling sacrilegious. If you bother to look around the game world, there are many, many secluded spaces where you can do whatever you damn well want to without anybody intruding because they've got a quest or a FATE. Of course, you should still consider keeping it to a private channel, and think about moving if someone "walks in" on you. It's not a question of morality or whether it's the right thing to do, RP-wise. Some people want to get their rocks off. Some people have characters in a relationship and they want to portray that bond. Sometimes it's a bit of both. I get it. The issue at hand is honestly the comfort level of others. Not everyone playing this game is over 18. Not everyone playing this game is comfortable seeing characters engaging in what is, textually, public space. Or hearing them do it. Some people have moral objections to ERP, and while I think they're ridiculous, it might behoove you to conduct your RP somewhere where they can't overhear, so they won't raise a fuss about it. Keep it private, and nobody has anything to complain about. And yeah, it's tacky to advertise for it in a public channel. This includes general RP forums. Be discreet. And don't drag someone into it if they don't have any interest in it.

In need of some Female Miqot'e for some RP. (Balmung)
ansemaru replied to R'mah's topic in RP Discussion
...okay, when I thought this was just about ERP, I thought this was tacky. The actual explanation is way worse than "oh I'm playing the big Nunh on campus and want a sexy harem of sexy catgirls". Like, to clarify, I'm not against ERP. I suppose that point might have gotten lost when sparky_ff7f had his thread deleted and my comments there were lost, but ultimately, it's a facet of roleplaying and something people enjoy. It's not my business to tell people to not ERP or anything like that. What I'm against is people trying to treat other people like objects to be traded, whether it's a sex thing or a power thing. This is the latter, and that's straight-up nasty. -
In need of some Female Miqot'e for some RP. (Balmung)

I can't help but roll my eyes at this a bit. Seekers have messed-up gender roles in their society already, but from what we know and see in the game's lore, they don't use their women as currency. Based on your other threads looking for slavers, it seems like that's exactly what's going on. So my question is this: is this Nunh a player's character, or an NPC created for the purpose of your big plot? Because someone somewhere is either drastically misunderstanding how Seekers work or intentionally writing a Nunh as doing something way more messed up than they normally would and being really sketchy in the process. -
Just wanted to update everyone and let them know that while I've gotten started on my commissions, I might take a little longer to finish them than raindrops. Real life has been getting in the way of art and game stuff.

If at all possible, I want to avoid a scenario in which massive numbers of FCs have to merge together. I love the RP community, but I wouldn't want to share a house with all of you guys, if you get what I'm saying. My FC is a small, tight-knit group with a coherent theme and tone, and giving that up for a massive group that can pool their money together for a single house would ruin a lot of what I love about it for roleplaying. I genuinely hope Square sees the massively negative reaction to the housing prices and changes the pricing rates for the houses.

Ah, I appreciate it, but since making this post I've moved to Balmung. My apologies!

In re: the Aesthetician in the trailer: he's definitely a Duskwight Elezen. You see shortly afterwards that his hairstyle has been made available to Elezen in addition to Hyur, and there are relatively small ears available for character creation for Elezen- it's not actually impossible to get ears like his in the current character creator. But perhaps more tellingly are his proportions and his skin color- he's a little too grey to be a Wildwood or any of the Hyur presets, and his tattoo is also a Duskwight-exclusive design from the character creator. (I'm personally excited to see more Duskwights. They're... underrepresented in the game's NPCs, I've noticed, and as someone who plays one, I'm kind of disappointed by that.)

I'm thrilled to see the level of interest shown in our little troupe here! To any of you who think their character might be interested in Lansquenet, I'd recommend contacting either Fenr'ir Nebelung or Skoena Fraewyn in-game- they're our leaders, and will get you squared away if you think you'd like to join or ally with us.
-
Well, even if C'kayah is already in an FC, there are still opportunities for interaction! Look for members of <> in-game if you're interested in having him have a run-in with the group.
-
Sounds good. I'd look for either Fenr'ir Nebelung or Skoena Fraewyn in-game, as they're the leaders of our FC and will be able to set up a meeting so Reinbach can see about joining up with us.

Aumeric has a very light, upbeat feel to him, so I wanted to pick songs that suited him. He's also very much created in reference to various fictional princesses, so... 3HW31f7nRl4 X-a_gq2W0bE tcNmbeN3TxM

So, good news to all who have posted in this thread expressing disappointment that Lansquenet was a Gilgamesh-based Free Company. As of this week, the whole lot of us jumped ship and transferred servers to Balmung. We're still finding our footing on the new server, but the fact that we're looking for more help still stands. Right now, we've got two actors, a bard, a pair of stagehands, a playwright/leader, a treasurer/leader, a costumier, and one person on security. It's not exactly a huge crowd. And we've got really no established connections on this server as of yet- rivals, allies, partners, or the like. It may be a little while before we organize any events on Balmung, but I figured it would be of interest to some of those who've replied to this thread and the people of Balmung in general to know that we're here now.
-
Now, I don't precisely have a chocobo in this race because I am both playing an Elezen character and new to Balmung as a server, but I believe there is an FC/thread somewhere for the Hipparion tribe. It's entirely fanon, but consensus has been approached there, so that's probably a good place to look for now.

I. Basic Info Characters: Aumeric Chassebel, Ahlek'zi Ghria Primary character: Aumeric Chassebel Linkshells: Lansquenet Primary RP linkshell: Lansquenet II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Medium-heavy. I'm not always going to be RPing or seeking RP, but I do like to participate frequently, and I'm looking to expand my interactions beyond my current boundaries. If I'm online and someone wants to initiate RP with me, more often than not I will agree to it. If I run into RP outside of the city and it doesn't seem like a private affair, I may drop what I'm doing to join up and participate. Views on RP combat and injuries: I don't play particularly combative characters- they're a nature-loving conjurer and an actor, but given the setting, I'm at peace with less-than-peaceful outcomes to RP interactions. I'd prefer fair warning before anybody jumps out and attacks, and I would prefer to plan fights and permanent consequences OOC and ahead of time. RP fighting isn't incredibly fun for me or my primary focus, and so quick, dirty, and predetermined in terms of outcome or not at all is probably how I'd prefer it to happen if it came up. Views on IC romance: I'm open to it. I've RPed IC romance before in other games, and I've got a character who's young, naive, and open-hearted. If someone wants to woo him, or if he finds himself smitten with another, I'll gladly RP that scenario. Just no crossing the IC/OOC barrier, since barring self-insertion, we're not our characters and a relationship IC isn't going to be the same OOC. And I'd appreciate people being open OOC if they have ulterior motives IC for pursuing a relationship- if someone is taking advantage of my character IC, I'd prefer to know about it beforehand. I'm not going to get him entangled in multiple relationships at once- it would be OOC to play him as non-monogamous- and I suppose it's worth mentioning that I have no interest in RPing heterosexual romance. Aumeric isn't one for the ladies. Not into ERP, though. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Very important. Obviously, roleplaying professional relationships and friendships entails a great deal of what I do, but both of my characters have implied family in their backstories, and if anybody has any interest in coordinating with me on them, I'd be grateful. I've never been in an RP where someone actually played the family members of my character, or where I was asked to play someone else's significant family member, but there's always a first time, right? Views on lore: I'm not going to be ridiculously hung up on every lore detail, since I'm still getting the hang of it, but I expect a certain basic level of respect for the lore of the game. It's there as a shared setting/basis for the world we function in, so blatant violations of common sense and widely-accepted canon will shut down my interest right away. I'm okay with people playing with the social rules of Seekers of the Sun, I'm not okay with people bringing in ideas that are wholly alien to the setting (like someone playing a Guado in Gridania.) Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): I'm alright with using /say for IC interaction, though it's *public* and as such should probably be interactions that the participants should understand run a risk of being overheard or interrupted by outside parties. /linkshell communication obviously depends on whether a particular LS is IC or OOC- and IC ones should be treated as actual linkshells in-universe, in my opinion. /tell is good for more private interactions. Linkshells are also useful for more privacy than /say, but /tell is something I'd use for private communications that are conducted in-person but are too sensitive/secret for /say. The only other channel I tend to use is /fc, which is OOC. III. Other Info Country:United States Timezone:Eastern Contact info:PM me, or pester me over AIM at "kamen mist".

I'm performing thread necromancy to inquire after opinions on an element of my character's backstory. In my initial concept, I'd wanted to play a character who was a sheltered child of nobility. Not a literal prince/princess, but someone of that type- wealthy and influential parents, hasn't traveled much beyond his home due to strict/overprotective upbringing. But I ultimately went with making a Duskwight over making a Wildwood, which sort of threw a wrench in Aumeric being actually nobility. There's a little loophole in the line in the lore about "nobility endorsed by the Wildwoods" implying that there are those who are not endorsed, but I didn't leap on that. In my case, I ended up operating on the assumption that the wealthy, powerful family he was born to wasn't nobility at all, but rather a crime family. Mafia, yakuza, you get the idea. They put on the affectations of a Wildwood noble family, present themselves as such, but make their fortune off the misfortunes of others, and live a bit more out of the way. I imagine they've got fairly extensive holdings in the Black Shroud, it being unlikely that Gridania proper would smile upon the presence of a moneyed, dangerous, and possibly politically influential Duskwight family of organized criminals. It's also worth observing that Aumeric doesn't particularly look like the common perception of a duskwight- he's got silver hair (and is obviously not elderly), but his skin color is one that can be just as easily found in the Wildwood population. More likely than not that he and his family were at least partially able to operate more openly in society due to the fact that they can "pass" as Wildwoods- at least to those Eorzeans who aren't Elezen, and who therefore aren't likely to pay attention to the appearance of them beyond "are they grey/blue?" Like a lot of Wildwood/Duskwight societal stuff, it's pretty messed up, and having the privilege of appearing Wildwood in a society that values them over Duskwights hasn't really endeared Aumeric's family to their kin. Nor has their collective decision to scorn their kind's cultural disdain for cities and "civilized" living- they're seen as aspirants to Wildwood culture, and even likely as traitorous. So they're criminal, and not popular among other Elezen. But thanks to the whole caves thing, they had a major advantage in terms of surviving the Calamity. While some Duskwights found their homes collapsing, and while surface-dwellers had to fend off the impending chaos of the aftermath of that disaster, his family (which, I suppose it's worth saying, aren't actually the Chassebels- I don't want to step on the toes of anybody else who's picked that surname by deciding their family for them, and I've ruled that in Aumeric's case it's an assumed false name. The "Dagger" to his Garnet, if you will) was sitting pretty thanks to their stable and subterranean dwellings. A lot of their competition died or were ruined by the fall of Dalamud. So I guess what I'm asking is "Does this make sense with established Duskwight lore?" I've tried to tailor Aumeric's family background to reflect the position his kind holds in Eorzean society while holding onto his core concept of a sheltered, naive heir, and I hope it all holds together...

It's truly a shame about the divide across servers. I feel like there are a lot of good people on both sides who'd go great with one another, but can't because of the one they ended up choosing. Still, I'm glad to see you're interest, even if you cannot personally join our ranks. There's hope yet for Lansquenet, it seems.
