[Wiki Help] Spoiler tags, etc. for images and long text?
Aysun replied to sanguineFenrir's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I think something qualifies as a stray page if it is not linked in a category. Like all our character pages are listed in the Player Characters category. The Soliloquy Menu is in the Literature category. That sort of thing. We had this issue come up when some people wanted to create a wiki page for NPCs that they had but couldn't because there was no defined category for them to be in, despite them being linked on the character's page. She has Kylin's support in her wiki duties. Again, just send her a PM for clarification. I could be totally wrong since I'm unfamiliar with what a subpage would be considered. -
[Wiki Help] Spoiler tags, etc. for images and long text?

It falls under the "stray pages" thing under "Don't." Unless subpages work differently? I don't think I've seen them yet, so you may have to ask her personally. Deirdre isn't a mod here but she revamped the wiki awhile back and keeps it clean and organized now for us. -

I know what you mean, I was just messing with you and that picture popped into my head. I don't think you'll regret your choice if you make it based on the character and YOUR leanings rather than ours. Set your mind on "Okay, he's a Miqo'te" and then see how it feels. Then try Hyur. If either one feels awkward to YOU, then you'll have your answer.

Why are they terminally unemployable? I'm sorry I have very little exposure to these things. -
I don't know if a gambling addiction would be distinctly Hyur or Miqo'te myself, but the mad scientist part definitely feels more Hyur. Yeah, for some reason I have a difficult time imagining a Miqo'te in a lab coat (the Alchemist lvl 50 gear), it seems much easier to imagine the Hyur in one, especially with his crazy hair. Miqo'te in a labcoat you say.... Gerik provides. lolol

I guess my biggest question, being a healtcare professional.. Does your insurance not help at all with this sort of surgery because it's "optional"? -
First to clear things up~ Clans are the two 'kinds' of Miqo'tes. One clan is the Seekers of the Sun, while the other clan is the Keepers of the Moon. What we're talking about here are the tribes, which were first introduced to us via the naming conventions thread. I have no doubt that when ancestral Miqo'te first came to Eorzea over 1500 years ago they all lived in their tribes and were recluses. But Eorzea is a melting pot of cultures and races, and the in-game evidence thus far suggests that the tribal way of life is not something that all Miqo'te still practice, despite the naming conventions still being followed across the board. The Seeker females you see in and around Limsa live normally judging by their various occupations, and they far outnumber the lone tribe that is shown in the game. The naming conventions thread to me described how the naming conventions of the Miqo'te came about, rather than how they all live currently, especially since none of it was known in 1.0 what so ever. That said, even the tribe that does exist are very civilized and obviously have taken in the Eorzean ways of life in addition to their own. They're well dressed, they have nice homes with furniture and lights.. They're not feral or any such things. They're just a tribe, united by family bonds. I'd imagine the truly isolated Miqo'te tribe to be even a more rare thing to find than a regular one. But this is all opinion, and it varies from player to player based on our interpretations. The thing is that either way anyone can play a Miqo'te how ever they want. If everyone wants to be in a tribe, or if everyone wants to be a city-Miqo'te, it doesn't really matter! The distribution of what is rare or common in game is set in stone via NPCs, but in OUR characters it can and will be what ever we want. There are a ton of Miqo'te RPers. That's known. There is no lore explanation we can use for that or any other rarity that is common in the RP world (Garleans, Ala Mhigans, etc!). We roll with it. As RPers we can't treat Miqo'te men as rare as the lore says they are, because we meet them so often. There just won't be any eyebrows raised at your character's presence. Unfortunately that's just how it is. Write where your character came from, and then focus on the RP!

Well, to be fair, there are significantly fewer towns represented in-game than there are likely actual settlements in Eorzea. So it makes sense that the majority of NPCs will be represented fairly loosely, as there's a very limited amount of space to plop down miqo'te tribe towns. By that same token I would assume that SE would show us a representative population, despite not showing us every single settlement.

That Midlander's eyes....
-
That's what I mean. We're getting our "recruits" due to the stability of the population, not because we're "set in our ways" or "orderly." We're neither of those things. The new character vastly out number the old these days.

[Wiki Help] Spoiler tags, etc. for images and long text?
Aysun replied to sanguineFenrir's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I don't think Deirdre wants us making subpages/floating pages that are not in a category actually, because I remember this came up when people wanted to expand on their family/NPC characters and it was decided that it wasn't allowed. So try to utilize the spoiler tags available and keep it all on your character's page. -
Like I said, basing my conclusions on what is blatant in-game. There is one tribe of Seekers, vs. tons that are living in the city. People can come up with their own conclusions still, obviously. Edit: Also basing it on the fact that we went 2 years without this lore and there was no sign of tribes of Miqo'tes then either. I'm talking more about Seekers, too, since the "tribe" thing is more distinctive than the family groups of Keepers.
-
Well, I'm basing my conclusions on the fact that there is all of one functioning tribe of Seekers in the game, where as there are a plethora of miqo'te making a living in and around Limsa that have no real evidence of living in a tribal group any more. Just because the naming conventions persist for the females doesn't really suggest to me that they all are still living in secret tribes. We likely will never know, either. It's kind of one of those situations where I've stopped caring too much about it, because our characters should be about more than their upbringing (tribal or no) anyway. I focus more on the RPs than people's backstories.

[Q&A] Legacy and non-Legacy: What does it all mean?
Aysun replied to Aysun's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Updated again because SE's stance on server transfers is vague and confusing! -
There's definitely not much "orderly" about us. The only thing stable about Balmung is it's RPer population.
-
We don't know that they would be any more rare within or outside of a tribe. They likely live everywhere (in 1.0 there was an NPC who spoke of them rumored to be living in Ul'dah even, just that he hadn't ever seen them), just like the females, they are just supposed to be much fewer in number. If anything, since tribal miqo'te are much more uncommon than non-tribal in general, that likely applies to them as well. Male Miqo'te were around in 1.0, they're just rare and reclusive. I think a lot of us are just going to be going with the "they were always there" thing and trying to ignore that every other person we meet is one now. Other than that I'd wait to make any big conclussions as to why there are suddenly so many PC/adventurer male miqo'tes until SE gives us a reason (IF they give us a reason). There are only like 3 male miqo'te NPCs in the game that we've seen so far, so SE is being true to their description of them.

^ this. >_> Minus the crush part. Oh, is that why you voted for the Hyur version of Felix instead of Miqo'te? > Biased. Role playing the traditional, typical Hyur/human is more unique since a lot of people are playing Miqo'te. If you wanna be around a lot of your own race, go Miqo. If not, go Hyur. I think Hyur look awesome, too.. So I guess I am as biased as Asyun. I'm manipulating the population because Midlanders are hot. I'M SORRY OHGOD. I have a problem.. I'll forgive you, this time. But Only because Aysun owns a tavern. Oh! Maybe Felix could play his pan pipe there sometime I.. I don't own a tavern..

Who are you striking here again? This could have stayed in the other discussion thread if you wanted to rally support for the poll, honestly. SE doesn't visit our forums (and if they do they probably aren't going searching for stuff like this).
-
I'd go with the Hyur, personally. Believe it or not, the "common" Midlander is far more unique these days than any Miqo'te will ever be. ._. /sigh Plus I have a huge crush on Midlanders wat.
