Just want to point out that in-game experience still shows Balmung has a crap ton of RPers in comparison to Gilgamesh at this point in time. Please stop nitpicking polls when people are making statements using them as a source. It's kinda silly.

This is the one exception I believe. In some cases it's shown that they can speak whatever common language everyone else speaks, but when Minfilia explains the Echo to you she states that it's the Echo that lets you speak with the Beastmen, which would imply that under normal circumstances Beastmen don't speak "Eorzean." Beast tribes speak their own languages, but some of them have been known to speak/understand simple Eorzean I think.. The Echo allows us to understand them though, as you said.

If we want to whip out the biology and attempt to apply it to our magical universe again, I would have to think that a Miqo'te, being a "smaller" but not "stereotypically magical" race (see: Lalafell), would have a slightly shorter lifespan than the average Hyur. Probably not more than 5-10 years shorter, though, tbh. This is 100% presumptive. We have no information in the lore on Miqo'te lifespans.

So hey, I am simply informing people of the options (server transfers are a recent announcement that not everyone is aware of). If you don't like that, I apologize, but I'm not going to stop letting people know their choices just because you wish to establish yet another new community. My friends from IRL/other games started on Balmung because they knew I had reason to be there. I'm sorry that your friends won't do that to play with you here, but there is no reason to make this into a recruitment competition because of that.

Exactly. There's also no indication in the spoken cutscenes of any of the races having a distinct accent that suggests that the common tongue is their second language. I really took note of that for the Garleans who spoke, because I know a lot of people have always assumed they spoke a different language. We're learning more about them already!

Server transfers will be available for new characters 2-3 weeks after launch. So if you do not want to re-roll on another server due to losing your progression, transferring will be an option!

Note to self: Don't bother RPing with and/or getting to know Maeve. There will be lots of people that move onto other games as they are released and this is part of gaming. However it saddens me that ooc knowledge would hinder potential fun rp experience in game between characters. Nevertheless its your choice. I've been burnt too many times by MMO-hoppers. I can't handle it OOC anymore and IC it is a huge pain to deal with. Especially when they leave stuff up in the air and just disappear 'just in case' they come back.

Basically you need to remember that this is open beta. These are "growing pains" - an insane amount of people all creating data and putting immense stress on the servers. The lockdowns on character creation are TEMPORARY. Which means, anyone who wants to be on Balmung or Gilgamesh WILL be able to get on them, just not this very moment. It happened in 1.0, and we expected it to happen this time around as well, and so it has. It will clear up within a few days of early access/launch. There's no need to be choosing more servers for anything other than what people already have chosen servers for: a temporary place to RP while they're locked out of their main server. To my understanding RPers are gathering on Tiamat for RP while they are locked out of Balmung and Gilgamesh, but not as their permanent home.

We also have an OOC LS set up called Intermission (see the above link as well) that can be used to set up RP! The game is kinda crazy full right now so it's hard to find RP, so I highly recommend grabbing that shell.

I understand. There is just that one group that I know of and I'm not sure how focused on RP they are. They want nothing to do with the RPC so you will likely have to sign up on their forums if you want to ask any questions of them. If worst comes to worst for you and you do wish to come to one of the other servers, we'll welcome ya wherever you go. Just do some research!

When a 1.0 character hires a retainer, it prompts them to design and name (rename) their retainer from 1.0. THEN you are able to call them and dig around in your stuff. I do believe this is a one time thing.

I'd love to change your mind about Balmung, but it seems you are set on your choice. There is a RP group on Behemoth, or was, last time we checked. If you go under Linkshells under "Other" they are listed there still.

Balmung was open this morning. Please keep checking if you want to create a character there.

Slowly but surely! Most everyone I know who was waiting has been able to get in since about 12am til now. The server may close again yet, but this is indication that it will open back up.

If you're really set on one, remember, like Freelance said, you're an adventurer. Not everyone chooses to RP their character as one, but this may be the perfect reason TO RP as one. Adventurers are described as "foreign" in some way to the city states. That could be that they're not from Eorzea, or that they're just not from the city state they arrive at. They are the ones that go against the norms, because they didn't grow up traditionally. They try new things and go new places. Miqo'tes may not be physically designed to be paladins, but that may motivate an adventurer Miqo'te to prove those who think that wrong.
