This is where the Relic quests get so darned confusing. Because, while there is only one Thyrus, only one Curtana, and so forth... there are apparently multiple Stardust Rods. And, though I've been led to believe this isn't the case, I swear I read that the Omnilex was part of the standard Scholar uniform. Gae Bolg is a title for a lance, not one particular lance. But that's just roleplaying with very finite resources. Just because there's more than one Stardust Rod doesn't mean everyone can have one... and then when people start laying claim to them, bad things happen. Hence why I like the replica/ "Like X but not" theory, for sanity's sake. OHgod that is terrible confusing. I have only done the Thyrus and Artemis Bow so I had no idea!

My interpretation of the story was much different. From what I saw, you are sent on a mission to get the actual relic from whateverplaceitwaslast, and then have it basically repaired/added to. You get a bow, for example, to be the 'base' for the original relic to be rebuilt upon. He's not forging replicas, he's reforging the relic itself using what you bring him. It's interesting how different interpretations of the story come about! And there are so many of them.

I'm not familiar enough with the lore on Scholars/grimoires and such to comment on that specifically but: Relics are a dangerous thing to RP in my opinion. It steps on a lot of toesies of other RPers! Buuuut there are ways to get around it! I know someone who RPs with a Curtana. It's not the Curtana, however. He had it specially made for him by another player, and it is just a unique sword for his character, not the relic of olde. There's also the option of calling it a replica of whichever weapon, if your character would be privy to such things. Much like the AF (in most of the storylines), relic weapons are another way SE tries to make our characters special adventurers, thus something we have to confront as RPers. Just like the AF, we just have to remember to be tactful about how we use it!

I have corrupted enough blank-slate characters in my time.. You're not alone in seeking long lasting connections. XIV is like any other RP medium: people leave, people get bored, people move on. Aysun has friends who have long since disappeared with no IC reason, and dealing with that ICly is always a pain. You just kind of have to gloss it over.. and no one likes doing that. While I'm not one for organizing meetings between characters, I prefer to let them just run into each other in some way, I wouldn't be opposed to meeting yours sometime and seeing if there's a connection to be had.
