  1. I said Almost! And I acknowledge you may not see it that way, but the population ratio is dramatically different. I played there and unless things changed drastically over there in the last couple months, Balmung's PvE to RP ratio is not 2/3s PvE. OT: Being one that plays solely on Balmung, I have to disagree with you again here. Balmung is one of the most populated servers and RPers are, I'd estimate, easily out numbered by PvE 10 to 1, considering server population is around 25,000 characters (and that's only the ones in FCs). Granted Gilgamesh is not that far behind in numbers overall, but we there are no where near as many RPers as you think there are on Balmung. I have actually spoken with a few Gilgamesh to Balmung transplants recently so I wasn't all that surprised to see this thread pop up. Wish those who remain the best of luck. Believe it or not everyone on Balmung/Besaid from 1.0 knows the feeling, because it was a constant struggle to keep our community strong back then as well!
  2. Definitely keep trying. There is a lot of that anywhere you go, just have to weed through it and find the others.
  3. Welcome! I've seen that group advertised a few places on Tumblr, I think. Glad you could join us.
  4. Can't be overstated enough how important it is not to overthink a character in your head. If a character wants to happen, they will... This. After a certain point, you're no longer making decisions for your character so much as you are relaying the decisions they would make to everyone else. At that point, you know the character has taken off, because the damned thing writes itself. Osric, quit being an a-hole! THISSSS
  5. I looove that portrait!
  6. Dive in! Advice on the servers: Balmung is usually open in the early hours of the day. As in like 6-7 AM ET and such, I've heard. Humans are Hyurs around here, and we could always use more! Enjoy yourself, browse the wiki (linked above). It has some lore on your new race!
  7. Glad I didn't disappoint. People pretty much expect me to be rude, and treat me as if I am being rude, even when I am not. Gotta hold up that image. Stats do matter, you'll see when you get further in the game and such, but that's only when you're choosing your gear and weapon. It shouldn't influence your race choice, because their stat differences are so miniscule they're hardly notable at endgame. SE did that intentionally I believe, so that people could play whatever race they wanted regardless of what class they wanted to do, but the min/maxers could choose their race based on some tiny stat boost if it is that important to them.
  8. The question then becomes "why play Miqo'te at all" when male midlanders (I don't know about highlanders) can be much more boyish? Mostly because of the Mind boost. Can claim it's stats all you want.. lol.. Those stats are negligible. Jana has a great point. All male miqo'te also have markings beneath their eyes that darken as they age. So to hide his gender, or appear as feminine as you want him to, you would have to wear make up to cover those markings. Which means you're character would be purposefully trying to look like a girl. I'm not saying they can't be feminine, but they have traits that you cannot ignore. They are males. They will always be a little taller than females. They will always have a more masculine voice and structure. They'll have their male markings. Miqo'te is a poor race to choose if you want a femmeboy character, despite it being the most common choice for those who want that.
  9. To expand a little on Edgar's post. On lore; most RPers in XIV prefer to operate within the realms of the lore of the game. At first when I read this I thought you were seeking a XII-related fanfiction style RP to be held in Skype or some other medium. Then the Miqo'te thing came into play and.. yea. Lore is given to us to immerse us in the world we are playing in. It sets boundaries on our stories - for good reasons. If we did not have lore, we would be free to write what ever we wanted - but then what would be the point? I could just go write a novel. Make up my own world. Or maybe write some fanfiction, if I prefer the lore of another world but want to put my own spin on things. But a fun, and huge aspect of RP is not having complete control over things. The devs have that control, because it's their world, and we are playing in it. Figuring out how to make your character unique and flexing your creativity while working within the confines of the lore is challenging, but rewarding to most RPers. Edgar's post lists the obvious things you have proposed that go against XIV's lore. While there are rumors about that Eorzea is within Ivalice, albeit at a vastly different time period, our world is Hydaelyn. I do hope the comments will help you direct your creativity towards a great character in Eorzea.
  10. Daw so sketchy and dynamic and I love it! Thankieee. (And I totally don't mind being an experiment. Ahah, who would?) Keep up the awesome!
  11. For the record I think that name would work awesomely for a Keeper of the Moon Miqo'te or even a Midlander Hyur if Fantasia is an option, since you haven't begun really RPing yet.
  12. That wouldn't be the first time Del has been mistaken for a girl  OOPS XDD
  13. Do let me know if you need refs from me. What with the wiki and such I never know. 5 years.. I wish I could devote myself to something like that and get better. But I devoted my 5 years to science. ;-; Now I'm crippled creatively!
  14. I am not the leader of the FC, and am not the only one to use the word "clan". The FC is named the "Morbolvine Clan". I had no say in how it was named. We are using the word on an unofficial level, anyways. This thread is intended to gauge interest for some RP, and my attempt to offer people a role. I am not going to debate anything with you here. I respectfully ask that you take your "nitpickiness" elsewhere. First off: Wow. People grow more hostile by the day sometimes, I swear. Second: I was simply noting it because I've seen the used of the word like this cause confusion in the past, and was hoping to avoid it being a problem for you. Sorry I bothered!
  15. Just a note of nitpickiness: The word "clan" is used officially to denote a sub-race. That is, the Keeper of the Moon clan, or Seeker of the Sun clan, or Highlander clan, etc. So you might want to use a different word for your family group. Sept, coven, faction, or something of that sort may be better used!
  16. Oh oh. Waitlist slot open! Waitlist me for a pretty portrait! <3
  17. Just wanted to say I thoroughly enjoy your wiki and bet he is a fun character to interact with! Hopefully I'll run into you sometime!
  18. What an awesome style. Like really nice. I love organic, sketchy art. I'm rarely brave enough to ask, but this is me asking! If you feel like drawing another archer catgirl, that is. X)
  19. That's the best way to go about it. Try both and see where you like more. If we were going by events=activity.. then sure, Gilgamesh would win that. They have a lot of events. Are all the events great and awesome to everyone? Of course not, but neither are Balmung's. I try not to base activity on the amount of events someone puts up, anyway. For sheer numbers of RPers, Balmung takes the cake. I wouldn't say we have any established 'server specific' lore either. Not that I've seen anyway. Everyone has their own story, and that's not unique to either server. We too have many helpful folk around who like to run PvE stuff. Again, not unique to either server, really! Hope you enjoy where ever you choose!
  20. That's.. actually a really common way of going about things, I've found. The thing is you have to be willing to "find a reason" for your character to join if you OOCly have interest in a group. They're generally not just going to pick you up off the street. You usually can apply OOCly to the guild in question and then just discuss your character's recruitment OOCly with the leaders there. Set up a meeting that will lead to them being hired, or recruited despite them not actively seeking employment or membership. Hopefully that's the only thing you'll ever have to really set up, but joining a group isn't always easy without OOC coordination. Browse the Linkshell tab above to see some RP FCs. Not all are listed, so check tags of ones you run into in game and see too!
  21. That was the greatest reaction to the word Carbuncle ever. "A what?" Welcome to Final fantasy, where Carbuncles are cute glowy squirrel things instead of festering wounds.
