1. This was originally written as an IC thing and my character uses different terminology for things. I did pull machina from FFX All Ceruleum technology is refered to as Magitek. Garlean or not. 2. Even if aether is extracted from crystals. That does not neccesarily mean it is not condensed aether. It would actually probably be easier to extract aether from crystals if it was condensed aether. if it was normal levels of aether then why would you really need to extract from crystals in the first place. There is significant lore in the game that ceruleum needs to be refined. I overlooked that despite the fact there is a whole zone covered in blue fog from refining the ceruleum. So harnessing energy would not be so much from breaking ceruleum. I don't really see how this disproves my hypothesis though. You can still break crystals down into a powder form. The crystals still be condensed aether. Then you just need to unleash the energy in the ceruleum to create your electricity. You could even mix the ceruleum with water to make a fuel like substance. I imagine this is what powered the Garlean airships and what exploded when they were attacked by the keeper of the lake. 3. Nothing in life is really simple. And if it were it would be boring. The point of having engineers is to do stuff with the complicated stuff that other people can't. Titor was trying to come up with a reason as to why aetheric geometry works. And why you can't just scribble in your book and then stuff happens. There has to be some order to some things. Some laws that keep you from being able to just do whatever you want with magic and technology. And that was the point of this thread was to provide the limitations to make these things seem more realistic and interesting. Anywho I do thank you for your questions and input <3

This is my assumption for how technology in FFXIV works. Based on lots of research and lots of educated guesses. Trying to put pieces together I would like to provide this to characters who are engineers and need a basis for their work. Aetherical and Ceruleum Technology Our world is one that is slowly progressing into a new age. A new age that is dominated by what is called technology, also more commonly know as Machina. Machina is any kind of machine or device that is powered by either Aether or Ceruleum. Aether is matter itself in its manipulatable form. But some areas can have higher concentrations of aether than others. Aether is also the life force for all creatures on Hydaelyn. Aether can be turned into more moldable matter by those who possess the ability to use magic. But can also be found in a raw condensed form called crystals. Depending on how aether condenses it can make different kinds of crystals. From those used in crafting and cooking, to those used as mediums for manipulating aether, to those that can be sapped for unleashing raw energy. As stated above aether can be condenseds either through crystals, or through geometric shapes that make up the raw coding of aether. Ceruleum is a type of crystal that is created when massive amounts of raw aether are condensed into a crystal. It is abundant throughout Ilsabard and a small swath of mountainous land to the north of Thanalan. The raw energy of Ceruleum can be directly harnessed without a geometric or crystal and magic gifted medium. It is also very powerful but also rather unstable. Ceruleum can be very volatile to large amounts of extra aether and should the energy released from ceruleum make contact with lots of aether it will undergo rapid crystalization. Like in the case of Mor Dhona located in Eorzea. Ceruleum is the easier of the two machina types to explain. Using the Ceruleum as the power source. You break it or cause the energy within the ceruleum to be released in some way, then channel the energy into making electricity to power Machina. The energy tends to come out rather quickly and can be explosive should it come in contact with high areas of aether density. Ceruleum is regulated and turned into electricty through Magitek Engines. Magitek engines are normally big and bulky but produce plenty of electricty. While it is not possible to make small Magitek Engines to generate energy on small mobile devices. It is possible to store electricty created by magitek engines in batterys.Larger Machina will have their own Magitek Engines such as airships and reapers, while smaller devices will use capsules. Gun- blades are a mechanical device but can be modified to take capsules. Aether Machina skip the step of turning aether into crystal and take raw power from aether itself. Something only the Allagans were able to perfect. Aether machina can run on electricty created by Aether and also be aided by the manipulation of aether itself. Allowing matter to be created simutaniously and for things to be created such as holographs. The simplist of aether machina would be using geometric shapes as a medium to channel aether into electricty and making it commit an action on repeat. It could also be done with crystals but would require the input of a man with magical abilities to activate. From there you can make aether manipulate other aether and eventually you encounter a extremely complex code that changes given the input and the situation that can be used to program aether into doing specific actions to aid the already electrical designs. Using aether alone as an energy source to power electrical machina tends to produce very little. Which is why oftentimes aetherical machina go through the code that is aether to commit actions you could not normally do with regular electricty and improve performance overall. An example would be to have a geometric shape channel aether into electricity, this electricty would then power a lamp. The electricty would then set off a timer which sets off another geometric shape to manipulate the aether to change the color of the lamps sidings. Thus allowing you to have a lamp that changes color. While it sounds simple in concept the reason it is not widely used is because specifically targeting the matter that needs to be changed is difficult and is the reason the code is so complex. Then the percise coding to make a machina do more complex things is another matter of difficulty in and of itself. My hypothesis also matches up with the hypothesis that aetheric geometry can be a form of programming of aether. Titor has a really awesome post regarding aetheric geometry programming. The fashionably clad Garlean in all green attire would stumble upon this flyer close to where he awoke. He would glance around with shifty eyes quickly to make sure no one was around then pull the fly down. Although he wouldn't doubt there were probably more. Escaping into the shadows he would read over the flyer. "Oooh! I made the news! Suspicious man in green... Hmm... Primitive being, it is not any ordinary green." He would look further down and suddenly his face would contort in pain "SAGE GREEN?! This is not SAGE GREEN. A mighty fine color. But this is a color far more majestic than SAGE GREEN! Stupid primitive kitty girl. This is the finest. Most wonderful. Nophica green..." He would shake his head fuming. Finally he would put a hand to his green mask and regain his composure. "I don't even need the rest of this." The green man would pull out a pen then write NOPHICA infront of the first green and cross of the sage in the second green. Also putting NOPHICA above it. He would then scan the area for any passer bys before going up and quickly reattaching the poster to the wall. He would stand and admire it for a moment. "There now at least SOMETHING is right in this silly continent." The fashionably garbed green man would then scurry off

"Run the provided "ReShade Setup" tool, press "Select Game" and browse to your targeted game's executable file. The setup then tries to detect which API the game uses for rendering and uses that knowledge to continue the installation progress." is what the readme says. I guess I did it right if that is the case? Maybe? I went to my Local Disk -> Program files (x86) -> Square Enix -> ffxiv -> game -> Then clicked the application file SweetFX is what I was trying to put on by the way. Just I thought I needed Reshade to run it? TITOR FIXED IT
-
I saw pictures of Reshade and thought. Oh hey! This looks cool! So I looked into it and there were absolutely no guides about how to install it onto FFXIV. So I read the instructions themselves on the download website and it SEEMED simple enough. Just attached it to my game API (My APwhat?...) Looked up game API's. Found nothing. So I scrolled around my FFXIV folders and Reshade would not accept any of the files. Finally like a Derp I just attached it to the launch file. Now my FFXIV launcher comes up, but whenever I log in and hit the play button, I get MSVCP110.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem... Looked up MSVCP110.dll, for the first time I actually got some results. Apparently it is my Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio. Checked the read me. Said that was required but I should already have it. So I thought what the heck. I will download it anyway. Downloaded it. Nothing changed. So I have my UI's and shizzle backed up. But redownloading the game sounds like a pain. Is there any way i can fix it without having to completely uninstall FFXIV and reinstall it? P.S. I tried doing the RESET on the launcher to default game settings. It brought up a yes or no. Hit yes. Then the launcher stared at me blank faced like nothing happened. Didn't fix anything. P.S.S I don't know that I actually broke my FFXIV. I imagine getting reshade to work would fix it. But I am pretty bad at getting it to work.

Yeah, this is a good idea. Maybe they could make it possible to buy a private room at a Grand Company-owned barracks or dormitory of sorts. Then you only need to pay the 300,000 gil, which really isn't that much in the grand scheme of things, to have a room. It's something, even if it isn't a full size house. You can still decorate it and get access to all the utilities a house has except the garden and stables, etc. ^ this. I don't think I would want a dormitory but any kind of small housing complex or apartments could do. Perhaps a door in each of the major city is the entrance to an instanced housing. Then going up to it you can visit either your own house, or the house of your party leader, or the house of anyone on your friends list?
-
I feel like it would have be better to keep FC houses the way they are. But make instanced Player housing. Then ANYONE can get a house. While FC's will still have some struggle. There will be a slight bit less competition. Instancing everything and removing the need for neighborhoods sounds like a drag that will never be done. But making some kind of buyable apartment that allows everyone to get SOME kind of house, even if it is small would be doable and just make it instanced. Even if it is far less than all the other housing options. It is still something.

*Pats on the head* There there Well feel free to message Enzo Dubhthach in-game anytime. And we can arrange an IC meeting <3

We can undergo trial periods for a retainer to see if they enjoy the job. Enzo is a pretty cheerful and kind person that gets along with most people. But he would hope to be able to find a Retainer possibly for the long term. I can assure you that I can find almost no end of stuff for you to do if you are lacking on RP. Enzo is not poor IC. But he is not rich OOC. So if you are looking for real gil I can't really help you there But he could afford a retainer IC and keep them fairly well paid if you are just looking for an excuse to use fancy clothes and knick knacks you would not normally have. As I said the main duties would be: -Organizing and care taking of extra possessions and things collected on adventures. -Undertaking tasks Enzo does not have time for. Such as going to the market to buy food. Sending a message to someone or to Enzo, or to check out something he may be interested in, ect. -Aiding in tasks Enzo can not undertake alone. You do not need to be able to fight. But simply being a second pair of eyes at an event or being able to run for help if something were to go awry would work just fine. The perks of being Enzo's retainer would be more imaginary gil to fund whatever tickles your fancy, and Enzo would be more than willing to stand up for his Retainer and take care of them should they get into trouble or need protection. Much like how a company would protect its employees or a Lord his peoples. Also my best attempts to make your characters life more interesting/exciting should that be what they are looking for.
-
My character is one that travels around a lot and collects a lot of stuff from his travels. He has little means of organizing it and little idea where he is going. There is also simply general tasks he can not accomplish when traveling around all the time. So anyone that may be interested. I would like to get a IC retainer for my character. You would have to be at least fairly active, willing to IC handle and organize his stuff and do the odd jobs he does not have time to do himself while aiding him in jobs he can't do alone. Beyond that I am open to anyone. :3
-
Thanks for all the responses guys. I will be on around 4 pm cst to 6 pm cst for anyone available for RP then. Just message me in-game, my characters name is Enzo Dubhthach. Thank you :3 Edit: Enzo made it out of Sagolii finally.
-
My character is lost in Sagolii and knowing how desolate that place is I doubt I would find much random walk up RP . So I will hang around here for a bit and if anyone wants to find me I would be totally up for the RP <3 My character is surviving but not in the greatest condition. He is not used to the heat of the desert.

Now that my main is finally made I would like to join on my Main; Enzo Dubhthach :3

Just thought I would mention the Japanese servers have a significantly lower population than the NA/EU ones. The highest population Japanese server is the 30th highest on the scale overall. Meaning there is 29 servers with higher populations. and there are EU servers TWICE THE SIZE of the largest Japanese server. The top five highest population servers are EU and the other five of the top ten are NA, none of those include Balmung or Gilgamesh. Balmung is the 18th most populated server and Gilgamesh is the 11th most populated server. Granted Balmung is a significantly more ACTIVE server. But based on populations alone NA/EU far outranks Japanese servers and are probably suffering from the same housing problems we are. Meanwhile Japanese servers probably have a much lesser problem with this. (Not saying it is non existent for them) The Japanese are going to focus on their home market. So the worries of their bigger market share may go ignored. (Not unheard, they will get to it eventually) I am sure the FFXIV EU and NA teams don't like this either. But there may not be anything we can do.

Looking for possible contacts for two Miqo'te!
Enzo replied to Enla's topic in Chronicled Connections
I am free on Enzo to role play at any time he is in your town. He goes between the three city states as a traveler and is extremely social. Should you be looking for role play on ANY of your three characters I would gladly flock to role play with you as soon as possible <3 Just message Enzo Dubhthach in game. -
Do Miqo'te go into heat?
-
Cloud strife Really? I did not mean for that to happen lol. It just kind of did.
-
Two handed sword but the hide and acrobatic abilities of a rogue. Wonder what that would be?

SO MUCH WIN -
except exceedingly rare would be a lot lower than a 50% chance for a mixed offspring. you would probably be looking at the single digits, as even a 25% chance would be too high. I don't think they are as rare as people put them off to be. Cultural reasons make them quite rare. But this is PHYSICAL reasons which Square spoke nothing of. So I am making my own assumptions to add to the reasoning why they are rare. But again, I don't believe they are single digit rare. Lets assume only 1/200 of a pure blood race ever becomes interested in mating another race. Then that still makes them quite the minority. 1/200 is probably more NPC's then you may even be able to find in a major city. But the NPCs we see in Eorzea do not represent its total population. So therefore even if it is only as rare as 1/200, if there is a million+ People living on Eorzea. Then while rare. they are not extremely rare. And they don't need such a steep physical rareness to make then nearly impossible to be made. They are not albino or anything.

How about this, as the subject of Half breeds interests me a lot and I have been wanting to get this somewhat cleared up. Assuming you get past the cultural boundaries, what are the physical probabilities of racial blending? Let me try to explain it using Punnett square's. Lets assume there is an order of dominance over other races that dictates what race they will be born as and the probability of sucessful breeding with other races. Lalafell <- Would be the most dominant. Anything breeding with this race will come out as a lalafell, at least initially. Miqo'te <- The second most dominant, anything breeding with this race will come out a miqo'te unless it is a lalafell. Hyur <- The absolute middle, It can breed with anything above and below it, but will be recessive in the upper levels and dominant in lower levels. Elezen <- Would be dominant above Roegadyn but again recessive towards everything above. Roegadyn <- Always reccesive. Breeding with any other race will turn out as a non Roe unless both races breeding together are half roe. With Hyur as the base, breeding one up or one down will result in a 25% chance of failure compared to normal, but still possible. So if to breed between two hyur you need to roll a seventy five or lower on two d10's, then you now need to roll a 50 or lower in order to sucessfully breed between a Hyur and Miqo'te/Elezen. Two away would result in a the bar lowering to 25 or lower in order to sucessfully breed with a Roe/Lala as a Hyur. Three away would result in about a 12 or lower out of 100 then four away would result in 6 or lower out of 100. Those are my estimates should it be possible to breed between every race. Although there are some who would consider four away too far away to breed with each other. The first offspring of a two pure blood race would be the dominant race. No doubt. But the second round of offspring is where the Punnet Square comes in. If you have a Mix Breed between a Miqo'te and a Hyur, then you mate with another Hyur or another Miqo'te. There is a chance you could have a Hyur and a chance you could have another Miqo'te/Hyur Mix. While genetically you would still have some miqo'te, your physical appearance would be more dominantly Hyur if you rolled to be more on the Hyur side of your Punnet square. The implemention of Punnet squares do not factor the blending of traits. But it can give an explanation for multi generational offspring of mixed breeds. You can just assume whatever race the punnet square provides will be their dominant race (Not their entire race) and that will be the race they would be playing a character as. Although they could still easily have traits of the other race :3 This above is all assuming you are breeding within your race/races If you get a Miqo'te/Hyur then have them breed with a Roe, I would just roll the difficulty as that of your Dominant race. More than two race half breeds make my head hurt though... (although the half Hyur part could better give you a reason to go Highlander as your mix between the two and drop your ears/tail.) How does that sound to all of you? A reasonable explanation?
-
Correct, but we are theorizing what a person should do if they DO cross breed. Because just because the cultural norms are there, does not mean we have to follow them. While stereotypes has basis, you can say Every American loves McDonalds and every Englishman loves fine tea.
-
So under the assumption that all races can breed with each other, but some mixes may be more healthy than others? How would that list out? 1 being healthy and higher unhealthy? My hypothesis 1. Would obviously be with their respective clans. 2. Would be with their respective races. 3.Hyur and Miqo'te <- closest beyond the tail and ears to an original hyur. 4.Hyur/miqo'te and Elezen <- Relatively close beyond the shorter/taller height 5.Hyur and Roegadyn <- With the exception of Highlanders which may have it easier. 5.Elezen and Roegadyn <- Closer heights but worse width. 6.Hyur/Miqo'te with Lala <- Somewhat closer than other pairings. 7.Elezen with Lala <- Serious height differentiation. 8.Highlander/roe with Lala <- Serious everything differentiation My guesses. I could be wrong. That could also be a list for relative safeness to use in Half breeds.
-
I was stating under the hypothesis that all races are able to breed with each other, that it would not be impossible. Under a logical sense. I would agree, there is a reason you can't breed dogs and cats together. But Square has not specified which can breed with which. So I am merely pointing all that there is a possibility for all options. Even if they seem unlikely. This IS still a fantasy world and I don't know how closely all the races are to each other genetically. Technicalities are difficult to work with considering the little technical information we have to pull from FFXIV Canon. The only technical information we have so far is that half breeds are possible. Whoever those half breeds may be half breeds of.

Err re-reading Ha'uruh Nunh's post I now see "it's still an (understandable) culture thing from a Human standpoint." I agree that it is a cultural thing. But not really attached to all humans. As throughout human history there have been uncountable harems and young mating. From a Modern standpoint our Western culture frowns upon that. But while it is slowly switching over to western viewpoint. That view is not of the world in its entirety, and definitely not of human kind who has been doing it for a very long time until recently. While I agree we should respect our relative cultures. We should not forget that the world of Eorzea is not our own. When in Rome do as the Romans do. In response to "interspecies relationships CAN happen around the same sort of sizes" I think they can happen between any race. I just think that the child's dominant race is that of their mothers, making it bearable. I mean for the lack of a better term, as stated somewhere before, I suppose you could still hotdog it with a lalafell, all that matters is that your pollen gets to the pistil. Not necessarily HOW it gets there. And that while rather uncomforting for a lalafell mother, is doable and would give some traits of Roe while remaining a Lalafell as the dominant race.
