  1. I played a male Miqo'te for the first year and a half of FFXIV. And then I turned him into a giraffe and will not be changing back. Started as a cat, ended up a giraffe. Usually its the other way around-- http://i.imgur.com/uMoIAeS.jpg[/img]
  2. Raises hand slowly. Yes hello, ICly Miqo'te Dragoon/resident lurker here. : D; To be honest, when I picked up the game for the first time; I had no intention of playing a catboy; but had every intention of leveling a dragoon because that is my favorite class throughout the entire Final Fantasy franchise. And, when I started playing I had no prior knowledge of Ishgard or any of FFXIV's lore save for: Omfg its such a badly designed game. I also expected to quit the game two months after launch. I ended up picking a Keeper catboy because I love space and all things night time. So. Me and my love for moons + dragoons + no knowledge of pre-existing lore = Nalin Frostclaw the Miqo'te Dragoon. Literally. That was pretty much it. His name, species and class was all based on what I wanted to play. It wasn't until after I got to Coerthas for the first time in game(Thus level 30) that I learned of Ishgard and its inhabitants. And I immediately fell in love with everything related to it that I dove into every lore thread I could find related to Ishgard to learn any and all things about the city and its history. From that, I began piecing Nalin's story together until I was able to get what he is now. Whiiiich is a Miqo'te who's Coerthas-residing clan was stomped by a dragon; and he was then was adopted by an Ishgardian(Much to that Ishgardian's dismay as he didn't even want the kid at first; but details, details--) and learned to be a dragoon from him. And is why he has a more "human" name, and why he acts less like a tribal miqo'te, more like a city boy. I also RP Nalin as a Dragoon still very much learning the ropes; his entire existence focuses around him taking up jobs to become stronger and wiser. He fumbles around a lot and is pretty much an idiot with spikey armor and a lance. He's kinda a self-proclaimed Dragoon; as he killed a dragon and his father/mentor gave him armor for it. Ishgard probably doesn't even know he exists. Which is fine by him, he just wanted to be a Dragoon because he figured they were the best at killing dragons. Which is what he wants to do. Because his original family got squashed by one. tl;dr: I made a cat Dragoon with a funky name cause I wanted to! Then I tried to make him make sense with lore afterward because I found out there was a huge established lore after I made him and kept playing the game. And that's pretty much all there is to it.
  3. This idea sounds absolutely fantastic and I 100% approve of organized crime within the casino. I look forward to spotting Turks while I run around the saucer! It's also super tempting to join... >.>;
  4. I love everything about these comparisons and it makes me adore the Gold Saucer even more than I ready do. Goodbye I am gone to the best three space stations combined all into one and I am never leaving.
  5. I could see it acting as an RP hub for people who roleplay Ishgardians that never leave Coerthas, which will be good on their part because they're currently stuck there until lore states otherwise. Will be a nice place for them to gather and RP since they can't leave. As for it becoming the new Quicksand? It probably will during the honeymoon phase, where everything is so new and shiny. But I doubt it'll stick because, as people have said, it's probably going to be a high level zone.
  6. As someone who is extremely excited for anything and all things Ishgard related, I support this idea! We need some more Ishgardian RPers; ones that populate the Coerthas areas and the like! Not too many RPs happen out in the snowylands right now which makes it difficult for the people trying to RP hardcore Ishgardian characters. Hoping that will change come expansion. Which, by the look of this thread, may in fact happen! I don't have anyone who can join the FC, but I like the idea and wish you the best of luck! If you need a grumpy, self-proclaimed Dragoon who is a merc for hire, just hit up Nalin! : D
  7. I'm hoping for an April launch, since my birthday is in April. >.> <.
  8. I honestly thought it was a troll at first when I heard the news; but after seeing it confirmed by various sources... I was stunned. I hope his legacy of his creations continues to circle the net for years to come. Rest easy, Monty. You will be missed. :<
  9. I'll admit that when I got into FFXIV:ARR, I picked a catboy because they were cute. And I picked a Keeper because I like all things related to the moon or space. >.>; It wasn't until after I made Nalin that I learned about the Miqo'te tribes, their way of naming and all that crazy lore. Which... Only served to excite me. As I really love working with established lore and all the research one has to do. It's really fun for me. So while I'm still not quite set on Nalin's past(I've been retconning things since his creation), I do know for certain he has some strong Keeper roots. He wanders off for various periods of time without warning, he struggles to make friends and to keep those friends, he has some issues approaching people, he keeps all his problems and opinions mostly to himself. He's even submissive toward women when they take command or control of a situation; as his clan had established that women were the boss and the men of his clan were... More often than not, traded to other clans or were told they hold no place of power. (Just his clan, at least. I'm literally going by what little Keeper lore we have. Gotta dig hard for this stuff I swear.) But at some point of his life, his clan was destroyed completely which flipped his world upside down, and he was taken in and raised by his dragoon mentor. Who, more-or-less, taught him how to behave more like a civilized person. Or at least, as much as a civilized person as he could get. Which is why he doesn't make weird faces at people getting married, why he kind've follows Halone and why he behaves a little more civil than a wild crazy purple lionman. Though... Those tendencies do get out from time to time. And his name was given to him by his step-father; he had a Keeper name prior to the adoption, but he refuses to be called by it because... Well he's also a momma's boy and hearing his mother's name over and over kind've upsets him. So he just took on a new name to avoid the sad feels. So he's a mixture of both civil cat and wild cat, I guess. And he never thinks too much about the subject because he's too busy distracting himself with other things. He doesn't like to think about his clan or ponder his place in the Miqo'te world or the Eorzean world. All he wants to think about is protecting what little he has left in his life and that works for him. I'm sure that once he's done running from his problems he'll eventually start to think about this more, but for now all he wants to do is stab dragons and keep his "new clan" safe, no matter the cost. Basically I took what I had made(A Keeper Catboy Dragoon) and tried to make it work with the itty bit of established lore I had. It's a bit of a bend and stretch but it feels like, to me, it works. So I keep rolling with it!
  10. She may be a half breed or... My entire life has been turned upside down. O_O...... Disregard my last post omg. I had no idea about that. /puts hand to face and laughs
  11. I'd like to point out that there actually might be a half-bred model in the game already. The model was added in the 2.4 patch; I'll tag it under the spoiler tag so no one is spoiled if they don't want to be.
  12. You beat me to it. The video though pretty much sums up Nalin's answer. He fights for his friends/Freecompany; who have more or less become his family. He'll defend those who need it, but he will always rush to his friends side and do whatever it takes to save them. No matter the cost.
  13. I wanted to make an entirely new character to play an Au Ra; but I've always had trouble leveling alts in the past because I grow so attached to my main(I also suffer from a "Why farm a bunch a second time when I have everything I want on my main?" mindset). So I'm going to turn Nalin into an Au Ra for a bit, then probably turn him back into a Miqo'te if I start to miss it. I really love dragons a ton, and the Au Ra is about as close to a playable dragon race as I'm probably going to get in any MMO. Save for Horizons but it's not as pretty as FFXIV! So that's my entire OOC reason for changing Nalin. Dragons and laziness towards alt leveling. ICly though; he's going to be cursed into the form, as I already established his history and character and don't want to change it or his name. My FC also thought it was amusing that he'd still act like a Miqo'te despite looking like a big dragon human hybrid thing. Thus: Toothless.
  14. I have a side-blog tumblr account for various FFXIV related content! Including my own adventures or official news or really ridiculous reblogs from various other FFXIV tumblr users. Link is in my signature if you want to follow! It's a side blog though so my main account has to follow people. Just easier on me to post things that way. :3
  15. Clicking on this thread while hungry was a horrible mistake. I have nothing to add except: Don't do what I have done, it all looks so yummy. >.<
