    Hi there!

    Welcome back!!
  3. The "rift/void" some refer to (or time-skippers, etc.) is something that can be seen in the End of an Era video where Louisoix effectively transports a number of people from the area as a last-ditch effort when Dalamud explodes and Bahamut attacks. Someone else can probably link the video since I'm at work and all that stuff is usually behind firewalls. Some characters (Eva being one of them) who were at the site of the battle are considering themselves being transported into this rift where they remain "untouched by the passage of time" and will emerge five years later (1577) as though no time had passed at all. This will make for a lot of interesting interactions with those "stay-behinds" who did not transport. As far as the lore itself goes, we're not sure of how these newly emerged people will be regarded, whether those who stayed behind are aware that their friends might still be alive or are feared dead, etc. There's just not a lot of specifics available yet surrounding how they will be regarded. Though I think I read somewhere that they may be called "hollow beings" since the last five years have transpired without them and they are void of those experiences. I hope this helps a little. It's sort of a confusing anomoly.
  4. That is awesome!! I can't wait to see Part Deux~
  5. You should be able to do this yourself. From the wiki: 1. Go to your page and make sure you are logged in 2. Click "Move" (at the top) 3. Change the name to whatever you want - I believe the dropdown box on the left should remain "(Main)" 4. Click the red "Move page" button at the bottom Please also be aware you may also have to correct some redirects if other pages link to the old page rather than the new one. You can click the "What links here" link at the bottom of your page first to see. Normally it's considered good etiquette to fix broken links from others' pages as well if you do this, but you shouldn't make any other changes to others' pages than that. Hope this helps~
  6. I love the looks on each of their faces!! Such amazing talent!! :surprise:
  7. Fair point. And I'll admit there's usually a certain amount of suspension of disbelief involved when going into a MMO fight, but I can appreciate how some might insist they're in-character at all times no matter what. From my own past experiences, for most combat events - particularly tougher fights - there often needs to be some sort of communication prior to the event, or even to some extent during it. And while this communication may take place in-character, there are certain aspects of it which usually simply cannot realistically happen this way. For instance, "at 50% health the big monster will do an AoE move and everyone but the tank should get far away". Yes, this can be adjusted in such a way as to be stated in-character, but what if no one in your group is a seasoned monster hunter or would plausibly know this IC? My point with that remark was simply that some folks treat endgame/progression as something independant of RP, and it can be detrimental to a fight if a paladin is barking orders IC to the others rather than firing off job abilities to preserve enmity, or a healer misses casting a vital cure because she's busy emoting some invocation to her deity, etc. This may be fine if everyone is on the same page, but there are RPers who will prioritize the success of the outcome of the fight over the value of a meaningful RP exchange mid-battle. This is admittedly a bit off-topic for this thread though, but I would be glad to debate on another thread a few of the shortcomings to "RP purism" in a real-time MMO setting.

Oh wow... Love this! I would commission ya too. In a heartbeat! Great work!:thumbsup::love:
  9. Thing is, you can kind of hop from shell to shell. In 1.0 with linkshells it was possible to have up to 8 at once, and folks could be talking on all 8 concurrently (which made it tricky sometimes but clever use of filters made things easier to manage). Most RP communities that I've read about don't seem to have any problem with their members belonging to multiple linkshells. Different LS's may peak at different times based on time zones and such, so it makes sense OOCly, and it can make sense ICly as well. There's a lot of great possibilities for RP, and the IC stress that a character may feel from spreading him-or-herself too thinly across many groups. Or a character that is a member of multiple groups may help serve as a bridge and some cross-LS events may spurn from that. Lots of possiblities for good RP stem from this sort of arrangement. I personally hope that the requirements to "level up" a Free Company are not so taxing as to be an imposition to those who prefer to RP more. Endgame RP can, and has happened. We did this a fair bit in FFXI. Often the in-game story may serve as some sort of parallel and there may be some lead-up RP to a particular battle. The fights were most often conducted OOC with the focus being on winning the fight and then some sort of follow-up RP would happen afterwards. Every group that RP's will handle things like this a bit differently though. But I can see it being too difficult to actually RP while in the midst of a battle. I'd rather my tank be focusing on keeping hate than worrying about answering some IC question, for instance. Once the structure of Free Companies is better understood, and what the benefits and costs of being involved in one, I think it will be much clearer for most to make that distinction. That whole "can only be a member of one" caveat makes this kind of an important decision for people.
  10. As a LS leader-type-person I want to know more about what they plan to do before making this decision for our group. I think there are a handful of us who are enthusiastic about having a sort of "base of operations" with regards to FC headquarters, and there are others who prefer to keep their FC option available for something more endgame-oriented or more suitable to their tastes. Unfortunately there's just not a lot of info out there right now about how heavily endgame-centric something like this is going to be, though it has been mentioned that your FC can "level up" and might require some effort on the part of members for upkeep and such. So it's entirely possible that a core group can own/maintain the FC while the LS expands its reach to others, or several FC's could make up a larger LS. I think there will be a lot of options, but we'll probably know much more as Beta rolls on. :cactuar:

  13. That's great!! Love it Gerik!!! *still wants a Gerik doll though*
  14. Eva Zelorius Foreword: Great idea!! Most everything here is subject to change depending on what we decide for Phase 3 beta with the rest of the appearance options are made available. Odds are there will not be any major changes though. Some may note there are a few subtle differences from 1.0 listed already. Most of this is borrowed from a draft of the wiki page, which we're still working on. This post will be edited shortly after Phase 3 once we've pinned down more of the specifics. Face: A pair of large, round amethysts examine nearly everything with childlike curiosity and smile in compliment with her lips, which are soft and full and most often are painted some shade of red. Her nose is gently rounded and of normal size and shape. Her face is framed by her long, straight hair and a smooth, feminine jawline. Probably the most striking feature on Eva's face is a gray tattoo in the shape of a gnarled tree branch which begins on the left side of her forehead, goes down at an angle over her eyelid, and tapers off in several directions on her left cheek. Hair: Yellow-blonde hair sweeps back from her brow and cascades down the entirety of her back, ending a bit below her waistline. It is soft, clean, and cared for fastidiously. She often wears a small braid within her hair to one side. Often when working or fighting she will tie it back in a ponytail to keep it out of her face, but she prefers to leave it be for the most part. She often threads her knitting needles within her hair when she's not using them as well. Complexion: Eva's skin is ashen like most duskwights, but it is pale and has a very slight gray-blue tint to it. It is smooth and soft, and very meticulously looked after. While in her early thirties, most might guess her age to be in the mid-twenties instead. With the exception of the tattoo on her face (see above) and two piercings at the base of each ear, her skin is entirely unmarred and unblemished. Body: By and far, her most prominent figure is her extremely ample bosom (yes she has enormous boobs). She often goes to great lengths to try (often in vain) to conceal this. Her body is soft and curvaceous; broad hips and a slender waistline give her a beautiful hourglass figure. Her arms and legs are moderately toned, though she lacks any significant muscle mass. Fashion: Having spent most of her adult life overweight, Eva is extremely self-conscious about her appearance, even though she is today considered by most to be stunningly beautiful. As a result she generally prefers robes, cloaks, shawls, and heavier garments that help conceal her overly buxom figure. She has had alterations made to armor in order to accomodate her oversized chest, and has found herself at times going as far as wrapping binding cloth around her torso before suiting up in armor. As a weaver by trade she is moderately aware of fashion trends and tries to meld her own conservative style with that what is popular in search of a happy middle ground. She prefers white, purple, blue, black, gray, and green to other colors but has been known to wear the entire spectrum. She does not wear gold jewelry, preferring the look of silver or mythril (bluish). Her favorite gemstone is the opal. Eva will wear more revealing garments when she knows she is alone (such as around her home). She has also been coaxed out of her proverbial shell on rare occasions by friends and has been seen wearing low-cut gowns for events such as masquerade balls and galas, and even the occasional casual social gathering as well. Recently becoming aware of the effect that wearing such clothing has - particularly on men - she has begun weaving more clothing designed to be low-cut, tight, or otherwise risque. She has not worked up the nerve to wear most of it herself, however. A Few Plausible Depictions: Swimming Knitting/spinning/sewing Making/pouring/drinking Tea White mage Dancing (ballroom) Spending time with friends Healing/Nurse Offering counsel Robed/Spiritual Prayer or meditation In Rain (or really any kind of water) Practicing with polearm Eating a sun lemon plain Brushing hair Spending time with pet bat etc. We've had a fair bit of commissioned artwork done and to date these three depictions of Eva feel the most accurate representations of her - the first in particular stands out to us as being the truest representation of her: Here are a few good screenshots of Eva as she'll appear in ARR from the Beta: Here are a couple older hi-res screenshots from 1.0 as well, in various attire and lighting (though these are probably now somewhat outdated): Also on the model/actress thread from awhile back, Gerik discovered for us this model, Claire Tully who looks a bit as we would imagine Eva - albeit with less mascara, paler ashen skin, longer elezen ears, etc. Any questions about her may be PM'd to us. We're always glad to talk about her and her nuances!
  15. Ha! That's great! I love the Gerik doll too!!
  16. She sounds like an interesting character and I am looking forward to meeting her. Welcome to the RPC!
  17. Ohhhh yeah, that's awesome!!
  18. Yeah, it makes perfect sense. I was just slower in posting the reply.
  19. I don't want to speak for Vareal, but this is one of those things that may be open to interpretation. From the OP: I think it's fair to say that most time-jumpers are keeping their age as it was in 1572 and not tacking on the 5 years. I don't think there's really a right or wrong here. If you determine a character's age to be the year of his/her birth subtracted from the present year, than tacking on the 5 years makes a certain sort of sense. For myself - it makes more sense for the age to be kept as it was in 1572. Being "untouched by time", those five years would not have happened for her. As far as she knows (or most of the so-called "hollow ones"), no time at all will seem to have passed between entering this time rift and coming out of it. So she'll be 32 going in. For me it doesn't make a lot of sense for her to suddenly think she was 37 on coming out of it. Various RPers will have different feelings about this though. After learning of the 5-year gap, some time-skippers might prefer to remain true to the actual timeline and actually tack the 5 years on to their age. It all depends on the character, I suppose. Again, there's no right or wrong. The important thing here is that the passage of time does not touch those who have entered the rift, so regardless of whether a character claims that he/she is +5 years or not, they would not show signs of that age, nor would they possess any experience, knowledge, etc. garnered during that time. I think there was a discussion about this several months back and we kind of looked upon it as sort of being similar to cryogenics or being put into stasis for 5 years. EDIT: Looks like Vareal clarified as I was posting this but I'll leave it here for the sake of clarity. Sorry for any redundancy.
  20. Nel looks so great! I love it!!
  21. I've read through all of the information, and I think this is probably the most important thing. I would urge you never allow it to be 100% complete, and always keep an openness to change and alteration - perhaps not necessarily the backhistory, but particularly early on with a character in the RP process there is a lot of wiggle room to go back and make changes, amendments, deletions. This gets more and more difficult to do as time goes on and information is shared with other characters and such changes would impact their RP as well. To be clear, I'm not saying that you should mold your character to suit the expectations and wishes of others. Rather, you may come upon a hook or some point of interest. As a sort of example, we realized early on that Eva was a pretty bland character. Largely this was by design but we wanted there to be some unusual or uncharacteristic elements to serve as hooks or points of conversation. So it was plausible that she learned some sleight-of-hand and parlor tricks from an old boss of hers. This kind of happened on the spot and it's been interesting once in awhile when she pulls a gil out of a child's ear or produces a dagger as if from thin air (it may or may not go without saying that she is not the sort of character most would expect this sort of trick from). In reading around (and this isn't targeted at you specifically), I've also picked up on a huge stress upon the lore and this almost over-dramatic fear of going against it in any way. While I think it's important to have a grounded understanding of the lore, I feel like there is too much expectation that certain behaviors or characteristics are a "must" and that there is too much emphasis on adhering to these specifics. This probably presents itself because there's minimal opportunity for actual RP right now, and that sort of leaves many of us in a sort of RP vacuum. All I can really say is, "Relax... and just let the interactions happen as they will, naturally." I feel like many of the newer folk are on pins and needles that someone is going to pop-quiz them on what Ala Mhigo was like, or Garlemald, or Ishgard... and this is really not something that routinely happens (i.e. just because someone says hello to you at a tavern doesn't necessarily mean they want to hear your life story, or that of all of your ancestors). My advice would be to think more about the present-day sort of stuff. What are your character's interests, hobbies, and that sort of menial day-to-day stuff. These things that he or she might find in common with another adventurer are more likely to be discussed casually. I'm sorry this kind of ran on longer than I'd intended. TL;DR: Don't worry. Keep calm, and just RP. The minutiae will practically take care of itself as time passes and your character will grow and evolve that way.

I don't really want to hijack your directory profile page, but since the topic came up I figured I would just add a quick aside that this is described briefly in the RP handbook sticky post (just click "RPing Injuries and Healing Methods" in the Table of Contents). Also, there was an interesting thread awhile back discussing a few various interpretations of how healing magic should work. It's always been one of those subjects I've held pretty dear to my own RP and I sometimes fret that I might cross some line, since different RPers always have such different views. In any case, I'm really sorry to derail but I thought the links might be helpful and that discussion thread could always be [necro]bumped if there are differing views to share.
  23. We've been waiting a long time for answers to these questions and more, Eva being a character that was born in Ishgard and the daughter of a former dragoon knight. She only spent the first couple years of her life there and has no real accurate memory of the place, so it's easy enough to deflect questions about what it was like. Eva's father, on the other hand, has a longstanding history within and despite being chronicled in his journals, and Eva having access to those texts, there is very little I can actually relate if she was ever asked about it. Based loosely on RP events from FFXI (where I RPed a Dragoon), we have established a very definite timeline for events throughout the course of his life, but we've been careful not to adhere too closely to anything in case S-E opts to throw a curve ball. We also have a few 'contingency plans' set up, just in case. Fortunately, not many people speak to any great degree about her father in any great detail, and it's been an easy enough thing to dodge thus far. Most of what we know from 1.0 has already been outlined in this thread. As the nation has been somewhat closed-off from the rest of Eorzea, I have often wondered if there might have been some sort of shady dealings between Ishgard and Garlemald. This is entirely idle speculation, but with such precious little information to go by I don't think we can entirely rule out the possibility of some sort of tepid arrangement or even alliance between the two. I realize I may be way off here. But I suppose that's just one of those things to consider if creating a character from a nation S-E may flip-flop on. In any case, we really are looking forward to much more Ishgard lore in the future and hoping to tie Eva's story back to some of those events from her father's story. We certainly hope (perhaps as much as the character herself does) that she may one day set foot in the place where her parents lived and where she was born.
  24. I checked 'employed' for this one. Eva is a seamstress, and I assume she will probably find work with the weaver's guild fairly quickly upon returning from the time rift thingy, since it was one of the only real talents she possessed.
  25. Welcome!! Sounds like you have a pretty good handle on things and your character ideas for ARR sound interesting. Looking forward to making your acquaintance IC "on the inside" when the game goes live and RP starts up again.
