I wish we had more specifics. I don't know that endgame itself will be important for this. It almost seems like this is just some sort of enhancement on the player residence thing and less about content. I can see where it could be valuable for RPers who want to establish some sort of physical base of operations from which to RP - but there will also need to be people working together on whatever progression-driven content is required to "level up" a Free Company in order to make it into something greater. I admit I like the idea in theory but I don't think there's really enough information yet. Hopefully as beta progresses we'll get a more complete picture of how this system will be implemented so that we can decide which of these two paths best serves the interest of our guildies.

I would imagine they would make some allowances for people to leave one Free Company and join another, perhaps with some restrictions. I don't know if I've heard any official word on this though. I also believe I recall reading somewhere that company housing can be opened up to those from outside your Free Company... I went and did a little digging. Hello and welcome!! Going just from your intro you remind me a little bit of a fellow I RPed with in FFXI. He was awesome!! So I have a funny feeling you'll be awesome too~! Looking forward to hearing more about your character and/or meeting you in game!

From what I gather, more information about Free Companies may be forthcoming so this could be subject to change, however this is kind of my take: Free Company = Your guild. You can only join/belong to one and I think there will be some sort of group building to which everyone may contribute/participate. Linkshell = A communication device used to keep in contact with others who hold the same linkpearl. You can join/belong to more than one of these (eight in 1.0) and can listen to conversations on multiple linkpearls concurrently or may use the chat config options to filter them however you wish. There is probably a bit more info out there about FC's and I'm sure someone more "in the know" than I will elaborate a bit. :thumbsup:

Welcome to the RPC! I know there's a number of folks who works weekends as well and there seems to be a good amount going on during weekday evenings from what I experienced on 1.0. So I don't think you'll have too tough a time integrating, but you will probably have to be a little proactive. That said we most of us don't bite. And we do have sweets and other treat with which to bribe~ :angel: I hope to see you around Eorzea and hear more about your character!

Oskar was largest-size elezen, yes. :dodgy: There is some what I will call "rough observations" about various racial/gender/clan heights on THIS THREAD which may help you out a little bit. Please note these are not exact or meant to be any kind of an official thing. When NDA lifts we are planning to include specific information that led us to these figures. The ranges are probably a bit broader but I think we determined that an average lalafell was just shy of 3 feet (or "fulms" if we assume that that is comparable). I recall the bit about lalafells lifespan being in excess of 100 years/cycles as well, but don't know much about the other four races to say whether that's a lot or not. The information just isn't there, but it would make a good question for the official Lore forum if it hasn't already been asked. :thumbsup:

Oh, I know I didn't spend as much time on OOC/Intermission/Backstage as some others, but I fully support this! I think I was also a sackholder at the end of 1.0 and would be glad to continue making sure RPers are welcomed to the greater community by giving out pearls and such. :thumbsup:

I'm a little bit confused about where this intensity came from? I think the posts above were just in disagreement, but everyone here seems to be speaking in good faith. I don't really see this as an argument, or a big deal. When I initially made the suggestion, I thought that some sort of a mechanism to feature more prominent NPC's (that may be linked from multiple characters' pages) from player stories made a lot of sense. I did not want to see these names appear as playing characters, but I also didn't want to have to include a lot of information about a prominent NPC within a spoiler tag. It seems to me that accommodations for this sort of thing could easily have been made with relative transpancy to most wiki users. That is why I fail to understand the arguments posted against this because I would actually think most would find it preferable to have information about a distinctly separate character appear in a distinctly separate space, thus giving the reader the option not to click it if it doesn't suit their interests - and a handful of people have already commented that they don't care about these characters anyway. So logically it seemed like a win-win. If the agreed-upon decision is not to include such a thing than I (and perhaps 10 others) will have to make alternative arrangements (for my case, probably a link to a very similar page off the wiki) but I will admit that it seemed like a wiki encompassing all things relating to RP should include provisions for that. I was only trying to offer what felt like a helpful suggestion. As I said on the poll thread I was not trying to diminish the work Deirdre has put into the wiki already and I'm sorry if she/others feel that way. The changes are good and I know myself and many others appreciate the dedication she has shown to it. Thank you!

I cast my vote for Eva (who is a duskwight elezen woman) for heterosexual - however it may be more accurate to say that she has very mild bi-curious tendencies. She prefers men, though has not actually been with very many, and has never been with another woman. Those men that she has been with have all been elezen, which suits her preference and upbringing. She also feels a strong physical attraction to roegadyn men but kind of dismisses the notion of being with one as something girlish and silly. She has on occasion also felt a strong physical attraction towards hyur men (usually highlanders but not always), and more rugged lalafell men on occasion as well. She generally does not express any sexual interest in miqo'te men, however was at one time surprised by strong impulses towards a miqo'te woman. While Eva was unattached at the time, nothing ever came of this attraction for a multitude of reasons. While there are too many factors to go into any great detail in one post, the quality she finds most attractive in a prospective mate is kindness. She also seems to generally be drawn towards more submissive men. As with many things there is always an exception, and her relationship with Oskar (who is pretty well regarded by most who knew him to exhibit about as much kindness as a flu virus) was something of an anomoly in this regard, though she loved him fiercely in spite of that and will probably continue to mourn his passing well into ARR - at least to some degree. As far as her friendships go, she holds no preference whatsoever and considers herself friendly with men and women of all five races, not placing any above or below another.

From my own personal experiences, many decisions are best made on the fly. If you make up a character with a very loosely-woven set of guidelines, it gives you a lot of wiggle room once that character starts interacting with other characters. For example maybe you've decided that this character will be pompous around others (you can kind of concoct the reasons for this character's degree of arrogance later) but as you interact with others in a RP setting, maybe some other angles of his or her personality will emerge. It's a little unusual/quirky/awesome how a character sort of takes on a personality of their own after they begin talking and interacting with other characters. It's one of those things I think where you may be better off with some very vague guidelines (so that you can change them if you need to!) and then kind of establish more specifics about what the character is like after throwing him or her into the proverbial deep end of the pool.

Welcome to the RPC! :moogle: The good news is I think we're only a few weeks away from Phase 3 beta when apparently the NDA will be lifted and we can all talk a little more openly and breathe a little more easily. So like Yssen said it's probably best to keep tight-lipped about it for just a little while longer~ Any idea yet about what kind of a character you will be RPing? 8-)

This is really outstanding Mtoto! I'll parrot the others and say that the originals were sooooo beautiful, but I really like what you're doing here and look forward to seeing more of the results! :thumbsup:
