You invite a friend over to your house for the afternoon. Describe what your friend would see upon entering your home. Eva's home is small and most would describe it as quaint from the outside, but otherwise a typical, middle-class, Gridanian abode. Flowers and shrubs line the front of the house and the stone walkway. The lawn is verdant and clearly very well maintained. Her living room is sparsely furnished, but there are several bookshelves lining all four walls and transforming the modest-looking domicile into a makeshift museum. The scent of cedar wood seems to permeate the air from origins unknown. Three windows adorned with lavender curtains for the summer months allow ample light into the room. Each shelf boasts a significant number of books - many of them which appear quite weathered. They are lined neatly between bookends and the spaces between each grouping of books occupied with various figurines and baubles she's presumably acquired over the years. It is apparent that everything has been placed meticulously and great care given to the exact location and angle at which each item is displayed. A large spinach-hued reading chair with a matching hassock occupies one corner of the living room, a wrought-iron reading lamp perched upon a small table beside it. Even the pair of books resting beside the lamp seemed tilted at deliberate angles - the one on the top titled "Spinning Your Wheels: A Beginner's Guide to Yarn-Making." Five comfortable-looking cushioned seats of a similar shade of green as the reading chair sit equidistant from one another around a circular table of polished wood in the center of the room. A large doorway opens into a kitchen which boasts stone countertops and more polished wood cabinetry. A glimpse into the bedroom reveals the foot of a four-poster bed with a transparent lavender canopy and an armoire made of dark wood. The sounds of a creature rattling about in a cage can also be heard from somewhere out of sight. Everything within the house goes a few steps beyond tidy to the level of 'obsessive-compulsive.' During the casual small-talk that ensues, your friend asks you if you have read any good books lately. How do you respond? "Actually, I just picked this one up the other day." She glides across the living room to the reading chair and picks up the book about yarn-making. The larger, leather-bound tome beneath it sports no title and appears to be a journal of some sort. The silver pen now visible beside it would seem to support this. "It details the process of turning raw material into various types of yarn and thread. I haven't quite finished it yet, but I can't wait to try some of these techniques out!" Your friend eventually leaves, and you're still bored. Restless, you leave the house and set out for a walk. Describe the neighborhood you live in. Most of the homes in the neighborhood are quaint and modest. Children play in some of the yards, and men and women go about their daily upkeep - weeding gardens and trimming hedges. A few of the houses near the end of the road are a bit more unkempt - some possibly vacant - tall grass swaying in the gentle breeze. Enormous trees provide shade for the entire neighborhood, and insects buzz in the midday warmth as the odor of woodsmoke from a nearby cookfire twinges at the nostrils. Oh no! An orphan is in trouble! Down the street from where you stand, a small street urchin is being bullied by three larger youths. What do you do about it? Pausing for a moment, Eva wrings her hands nervously as she considers the situation. Realizing she recognizes one of the bullies as her next-door neighbor's son, she marches over to where the transgression is playing out and tries to put on her best mean-looking face (which is actually not very mean-looking at all), setting her knuckles to her hips while looking down her nose at the one boy in particular. "Do I need to have a talk with your father about this?" Without waiting for his response, she addresses the other two bullies, "And don't you two have better things to be doing than antagonizing him?" After everyone disperses she ensures the target of their raucious behavior isn't hurt in any way, listens to his story about why the others started bullying him, and offers him a small sum of gil to get himself cleaned up. Adventure time! The next day, still restless, you decide that what you need is a good change of pace. How do you pack for your four-day road trip to Ishgard? A small blue rucksack holds most of her personal belongings. For a four-day trip she also packs a shoulder-satchel with a few changes of clothing, a few spindles of thread and several balls of varying colors of yarn for when her current project (in the rucksack) is finished. She also has a couple of books on hand in case she finishes her knitting early. She carries no weapons, and the small pouch of gil which she'll use for room and board for her trip is concealed within one of the garments in her satchel. A separate pouch at her waist containing only a few gil serves as a decoy in case of an emergency (a recommendation her father once gave her), and may also be spent on additional thread or a good book, if needed. Along your journey, you spot some bandits waiting at a bridge across a wide but slow moving river up ahead of you. They haven't seen you yet. You need to cross the bridge to get to where you're going. How do you handle the situation? The first step in evading a trap is realizing that one exists. At the sight of the bandits waiting at the bridge, Eva offers up a small prayer of thanks to Nymeia for fating her to see them first. Doubling back for half a malm or so, she continues off the beaten path and eventually finds a spot amongst the cover of brush to change into her swimwear and enjoys this excuse for a cool dip in the river. She decides to tell the first authorities she comes across about the bandits and caution any others who happen to be traveling in the opposite direction. You have just arrived for the first time in a new big city. Where do you go first? Realizing she's grown hungry after the journey, Eva debates stepping into the first eatery she comes upon. Eventually dismissing this idea, she decides to start off in the marketplace and see what sort of clothing the people in this new city find fashionable. After all, if she's to eventually become an acclaimed weaver, she'll need to learn to stay atop of the current trends. She resolves to eat a modest meal after she's worked up more of an appetite, and perhaps after getting a recommendation from one of the locals. For being the 1,000th tourist to the city, you have been given a 6,000 gil voucher to spend as you like at the Ishgard Department Store (think FFXIV version of Macy's). What do you spend it on? Offering another quick prayer of thanksgiving to Nymeia for this gift, she explores the various clothing and accessory items available for purchase. Most of the garments in her wardrobe are a few sizes to large for her, and she's always lacked either the time or the gil to replace them. This opportunity grants her a chance to pick out something that would fit her properly. Spotting a periwinkle-colored satin dress which fell at just around half of the voucher's worth, she grabbed it eagerly and went to a fitting room. After trying it on and being pleased with her appearance in the snug formalwear, she decided against getting the matching shoes. She requested that the difference be put to a separate voucher, and gingerly placed that one in the cup of a beggar woman she had spotted on her way in. All of that shopping has made you deliriously hungry. What sort of food establishment do you seek out for lunch? Being mindful of her diet, she listened to a few of the locals' recommendations and decided to try a seafood restaurant they had spoken about. She always enjoyed flame-grilled fish with some rice, vegetables, and a nice bit of fruit or berries for dessert. Five months later and safely back at home, you realize the Winter Festival is approaching! What sort of present do you pick out for your mother (or nearest living relative, or closest friend)? Deciding that the best gift for her father - a man whose failing mind sometimes prohibited him from remembering certain details about things - would be something he could keep to remind him of her. Having found an artist to paint a portrait of her wearing the new blue dress, she now purchases a simple but elegant wooden frame and will offer the portrait of herself to her father for the holidays.

/facepalm :frustrated: As long as they don't make it the most UBARL33T thing in the game such that die-hards make fun of you for not wearing it...

Looks good! Glad ya were able to get it working. :approve:

If you ever come up a bit farther to CT (and I am still planning a trip down there to NJ within the next few months so expect me to be in touch!) you'll have to check out Archie Moore's up here. I think they have 4 or 5 locations now and their wings are voted best in CT almost every year. Heat adjusted to taste, if I remember right. Admittedly, it's been awhile. I'm of the same, though. The hotter the better. I want to feel my ears tingle. :approve:

The night embraced the Baroness Midnight Nightingale like a warm blanket on a cold night. She cavorted along its trails and alleys, the very picture of apathy, as the shadows around her danced in the pale moonlight. It was a rare treat indeed for something to amuse her after so many centuries of these late night meanderings. People still swarmed around the cities like insects, writhing between buildings going to and fro on some business with the most dire of urgency. If they had any real awareness of how little time they truly had, would they still waste their time with such nonsense? Fools. The Baroness looked up beneath the shadowy hood of her cloak, piercing dark eyes observing every minute detail of the environment, sponging it all in and searching for something new, something different, anything. Tonight though, something piqued the corners of her lips to curl up in a slight grin. Perhaps it was a familiar voice she had heard calling out from the next street over. Or perhaps it was the name that voice had spoken. Grasping the hood of her cloak with crimson-painted fingertips, she threw it back and tucked several strands of raven-colored hair behind one of her pale ears. Hearing nothing further after a few seconds, she tugged her hood back up and continued in the direction of the voice. Maybe it would be an eventful night after all...

CE (its all about the rite of passage :approve: ) Also used mod powers to turn this into a poll, cuz it's a good question. Hope you don't mind sweet.

I agree that the round-robin style in Episode 3 was good. You probably want to be careful about having too many guests on at the same time though, otherwise people are more likely to talk over one another. Keeping some kind of an order would allow everyone a chance to talk and help avoid confusion as to who speaks next. I wasn't a part of ep3, so I have no idea if you guys structured it in any particular way, or if the conversation just naturally flowed like that. Also I listen from work, but I wear headphones. :approve: I like the music too. If it's a real issue, maybe just prior to going to break for the music you can edit in a quick 'If you want to get back to the meat and potatoes and not listen to this music stuff, we'll begin again at 42:10." (or whatever) The only real thing I would think about omiting completely are the RL 'interviews' that we heard in a couple of the episodes which, as far as I can tell, serve no real purpose to the podcast.
-
Oh it's not just you. The folks at Vanachat changed it today, I think to FFOChat, but not 100% certain. Aveline or someone else can probably confirm this. Can't access IRC from work unfortunately.

Topic ideas would be helpful. As Av and Armi said, I'm happy to be a part of it again but will defer to someone who hasn't had the privilige yet. Available after 7pm EDT or so most days unless I'm working from home (usually every third week).

I believe you meant... :cheer: -
I'm up for joining discussions or doing this again sometime. You guys should already have my Skype info and Mason knows how to reach me. 8-)
-
Awww, you have my info. Ping me up on AIM and I'll get on Skype. I'm totally up for this, or being a guest again or w/e. :approve:
-
The information was a bit dated, but I think there were some RL issues that resulted in the delay. I think that was recorded about 3-4 weeks ago, about a week after the first wave of Beta invites went out. So, for the time it was recorded at least, the headlines were mostly new information. Also sorry if I sounded rather exhausted and lost my train of thought a few times while I was rambling on... Someone should run a count of the number of times I said, "Y'know..." >.> Also a few of you here probably know/knew me as 'Mike' rather than 'Luke'. I go by both names now. When I started working the depot job just prior to my helpdesk job, my immediate manager's name was 'Mike'. My middle name is actually 'John', which it so happens was a coworker's name. So 'Luke' was adopted in order to avoid confusion and it's kind of stuck since then. I always use this when ordering take-out as well, because there's a few billion Mikes out there, and it just makes things easier and I haven't had any issues getting someone else's food since I began doing that. So... I answer to both now. Really, it has nothing to do with Skywalker... (cuz everyone always makes that connection). Anyway, getting back on topic... I'm looking forward to the next episode and getting to hear about some of the other new guilds! Will you guys continue doing this weekly, or is there any plan to maybe step it back and do it every other week instead? Also think you guys should do that 'one up the previous speaker' godmode game we spoke about before the podcast. That'd be awesome. If there's ever a podcast about godmode or somesuch.... lol I thought it was a good episode though. Good job with the editing. :approve:

I never played WoW either, so you're not alone. I actually really enjoyed the Warcraft series pre-MMO. But I was heavily absorbed into FFXI by that point, and knew right off that WoW wouldn't be able to hold a candle to it. So I guess I can't really comment on this stuff. Just wanted to say that you're not alone Kima. lol

Post pictures of your cats and or dogs (inspired by Eulanna)
Eva replied to Axl's topic in Artisan House
This is Edgy. I got him about 3 and a half years ago when I was living in Norman, OK. He's moved with me four times since then and he's been a good sport about it each time (particularly the 30-hour drive from Claremore to Connecticut lol). Before I moved to where I am now back at the end of April, I was living with a roommate who had two cats. Now he's got no animal companionship for the first time in a few years and he's not particularly thrilled, so I may be making another post here in the near future. Even put a video of him doing a pull-up in order to catch a glimpse outside when he was living at my parents' house (I hate the wallpaper too): -
Yeah we're still waiting on the job-specific emotes they promised about 3 updates ago... And of those 34, I think a few of them are the same animations (i.e. /wave /farewell)
-
As an afterthought (postcount+1go!!), I really would like to see them link the emotes to slashes like they did in FFXI so that they can be executed from the runline. I'm sure this is 'coming soon', but going through the menu is a tedious process (especially with so many emotes to choose from, and they're not exactly well-alphabetized!!). I have wanted to do a simple /wave emote to someone's name I recognized from the RPC forums as they ran by, but by the time I got the menu up and found the emote, they were way out of range. orz :frustrated:
-
I love the 'Stretch' emote! I was spamming it and taking screenshots for siggy earlier. There's a Soothe, ThumbsUp, and several others. You can always see people playing around with these. Sipipi (or w/e her name is) really seems to like them too.
-
I'm going to feel quite ambivalent in September, since that's probably when FF11's going to release their Scars add-on and I'm sure there will be a corresponding update. The lack of RP (at least on Sylph) has kind of made up my mind. But I think we'll be able to run both windows simultaneously, so I'm still happy I can do some idle RP in 14 while doing some event in 11.
-
Corrected. I had copy/pasted it from somewhere else, so it's probably still listed as .ORG somewhere, but it's down as .COM here and in the headlines sticky.
-
I agree that this is better. All the guilds may benefit from potential recruits stopping in. Going to update the sticky to reflect the new info.
-
If a room is decided upon on vanachat, let me know and I'll update the sticky (and Nettalk). But I would prefer keeping to vanachat as well, if possible.
