Tricks or Tips, an FFXIV "secrets" collection

Second Wind is buffed by Berserk, yes (but not by Unchained!). Makes it more worthwhile on WAR in my eyes than 5% healing buff from Mantra (which sucks compared to MNK's traited 15%, btw). -

Most impressive. Now comes the hard part, trying to get Yoshi-P to sign a copy. I expect to come back with nothing but crushed ribs. Please. We'll look forward to it. :cactuar:

Square Enix's attention to detail and proof to their precision
Melkire replied to Seriphyn's topic in FFXIV Discussion
On-topic, I'm assuming all three recreations are using the unfinished Curtana because it's easier for Rowena and Gerolt to reproduce than an actual relic, far easier than trying to recreate Joyeuse and Durandal from nothing, and more authentic than just using your everyday average sword. "Token gear", then. "Antique gear". Anything would be infinitely better than AF2, because this... ...isn't this: You had your day. -

...why are we calling it AF2? That's myth gear. AF2 isn't even out yet. -
Kellach is right. I can see why farming King Elmer is attractive. He's abusable due to Plus rules, meaning you can beat him with starter cards, and he has a chance of dropping Bahamut which is 600 MGP, or more frequently Godbert which is 50 MGP. What I don't understand is why no one is farming Gegeruju. Gegeruju's Swap rule means you trade one of your cards for one of his at the outset of every match (thats an 80% chance of him not stealing your ace and you gettimg another 3 star or higher card). His Sudden Death rule means that if you draw, you keep playing by taking up all cards that are your color. What this adds up to is that you can take a few shitty cards and a decent ace (I took Moogle, Ixal, Coeurl, Mandraroga, and Bahamut), and then proceed to cheese him by forcing him into draws when you cant win, thereby stealing away his good cards and leaving him with your shitty ones, thereby forcing the win. The average match might take longer, but there's much less deliberation involved since you don't have to account for Plus rules, so it almost evens out. Furthermore, Gegeruju's buy-in is 30 and his payout is 116 or something, making profits off him comparable to Elmer, esp since he also drops Y'shtola, a 50 MGP card, at a seemingly higher drop rate than Godbert's. I made 1300 off Gegeruju in less than 30 minutes of play, IIRC. And it was reliable. I only lost once, and it was due to my not paying attention. Guaranteed payouts comparable to Chocobo racing, but in a fraction of the time, it's brainless, and RNG isn't nearly as likely to screw you as it is with Elmer.

Raiton still parses higher than Fuma Shuriken even after the nerf -and- accounting for GCD delays. The community number-crunched this to death on the official forums and reddit when that patch hit. That said, Fuma is viable, just not optimal. -

Still better than healers deciding to stand on top of the tank in time to eat cleaves. ಠ_ಠAmdapor Keep HM -

The game still doesn't parse frequently enough. The current delay for server position updates is somewhere between 0.5s and 1.25s, IIRC. Always always always have something ready to press/pop. -
Aw, you had to snag a screen after he slipped on his turban to remind L'aenoh about who he was. My CDO is kicking in, that set looks better with the black hempen bandana. And Roen has the Maelstrom DoW coat. *curses Flames Allied gear designer forever* I blanked when I first saw this, then immediately warmed up to it. It's nice to see mixed families with adopted kids no matter how much it irks me that Square-Enix is putting Hyur and Elezen children on display solely because they're not settled on a design for or ready to show off Roegadyn and Lalafell children yet.

This also applies to the nankas in Hullbreaker Isle. -
This implies we're corruptible.

The most common explanation I see in other forums whenever this is brought up is "Well, if I have to stare at an avatar's ass for 6 hours every night, I might as well make it an attractive one." Seems like a poor excuse, really. Surely if someone is comfortable with their sexuality then they'd have no issue staring at a guy in a video-game? Unless someone zooms in really close and frequently they won't be staring at their character's rear anyway. It's not about homophobia, it's about looking at something pretty.

As has been mentioned, there's this trend with video games where guys tend to opt for the female character model in lieu of "playing as themselves" (I've been guilty of this). More aesthetically pleasing to the eye is what it comes down to. This has very little if anything to do with roleplay. More often than not, roleplay will come after the fact. Then you throw in a cat race and people go "WELP I'M GOING TO PLAY A CATGIRL".

How do I horde wicked awesome stars over my name
Melkire replied to ChewableMorphine's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Six Star Master Race. 100% positive that six stars and up are reserved for staff. -
Character Info Name: Melkire Title: The Dogged Bio: Thief-turned-assassin-turned-soldier. Role: Assassin Secondary Role: N/A Skins: Base is his usual Sipahi-turban-with-Flame-Private-jerkin look. Alt is his soot-black-Saurian-shirt-with-matching-bandana-and-Allagan-gloves-and-greaves look. Abilities Ability #1: Slivers of Steel Passive: Slivers of Steel and all auto-attacks apply a stacking debuff called Concoction that deals damage over time. Concoction lasts for 18 seconds, can stack up to 5 times, and the duration is refreshed with each new application. All stacks of Concoction fall off once the 18 second duration has elapsed. Active: Straight-line skillshot that deals moderate damage. Slivers of Steel may be activated again within 1 second, up to a total of three times. Each additional activation results in a longer cooldown for Slivers of Steel. If a skillshot does not connect with a target, a dagger is left behind on the ground. Melkire can run over these daggers to lower the cooldown on Slivers of Steel. Ability #2: Rip and Tear Active: Short-range nuke that consumes Concoction stacks and deals damage that scales with the number of stacks on the target. If two or more stacks of Concoction are consumed, Shoulder Tackle's cooldown is refreshed. Ability #3: Shoulder Tackle Active: Targeted dash. Requires a target afflicted with Concoction debuff. Dashes to nearby target, knocking away all enemies in,between Melkire and the target. Deals minor damage to target, knocks them up, and knocks them back upon connecting. Ability #4 (Ultimate): Everything's Personal Active: Melkire jumps to and latches onto the target, becoming untargetable and immune to all crowd control and displacement effects. Melkire and target are both silenced for 9 seconds. Melkire deals ever-increasing damage to the target with each second, healing himself for an equivalent amount. Damage scales with the number of Concoction stacks on the target. Concoction stacks are NOT consumed. Melkire releases the target and becomes targetable and susceptible to crowd control and displacement effects again once the 9 seconds have elapsed or the target has died. Quotes Game Start: "Knives at the table, folks." Taunt: "Ain't done 'til I'm soaked in your blood." Death: "Seven hells...."

Homestuck - A Plea from a LalaKage on Catching Up
Melkire replied to Kage's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Rant coming through: The trouble with Homestuck these days is that ever since the introduction of the trolls proper (read: everything after End of Act III, Enter, and the subsequent Intermission), the narrative took a drastic swerve towards and into what can only rightfully be called "shenanigans". This worked for Problem Sleuth because PS retained its narrative structure the whole way through: puzzle-mystery-pseudo-game leading up to a ridiculously long and dramatic boss fight which called back to and invoked just about every hanging thread or plot device throughout the story. Homestuck was clearly originally structured in a similar fashion (revisit Act I to see for yourself) but then took a detour to tell a completely different story about the trolls, then revisited the kids, then took another detour to tell yet another story about Sburb/Skaia Redux via the kid versions of the parents, then killed off the majority of the characters for sheer shock value, then wandered for a bit before setting out on a "retcon our history" track... Hussie lost himself for a while. Homestuck has been on Act 6 since November 11, 2011. That's three and a half years, a year of which was spent on hiatus. Acts 1 through 5 and the included intermissions, by contrast, only took two years. And Homestuck is supposedly not even at its endgame yet. To make that clear for everyone: Act 6 has taken as much time as all the Acts that came before it put together. I don't blame anyone for getting lost, I don't blame anyone for dropping it, and I don't blame anyone who still follows along solely due to morbid curiosity that comes from wanting to know how it all ends. Homestuck is currently undergoing arc fatigue of the worst kind. -
Aw, hell. Rest in peace, Leonard. You were one of the best.

"Mangy cur" is always a good turn of phrase for fantasy settings, regardless of which one you're in.
