  1. I suppose I'm to thank you for reminding me that it's my character, and I can do as I please. But since I'm posting a thread requesting the input of my fellow roleplayers, one should infer that I at least marginally care about what they have to say on the matter. The manner in which I choose to play my character takes into consideration the ideas of the community in which I choose to include myself. Dont forget to infer that despite this website being based and great, its a minority on Balmung and its opinions are as such as well. Balmung is huge, this place isn't. Don't pigeon hole yourself into fitting in here above all else when you ignore a majority of the unseen RP server.
  2. Negative. Actually let me edit this, the character can do what the writer can, not what you deem is appropriate. It might not even be minor considering if they can write up a good story, their differing background may be more enjoyable to interact with.
  3. AS easy as you want it to be for YOUR character.
  4. Well enough of the shitposting, thats my job. Anyways, I'm sort of with the OP, however, like at 2.0s launch I'm going full steam ahead into crafting and gathering. In fact I have a 60 dragoon and I havent even unlocked the 60 dungeons. I dont give a shit about this games story either, I dont RP the WoL so it has no bearing on me. I even skipped every cutscene so I could level my dragoon as fast as possible to unlock zones for my miner so I could vacuum up the early adopters of crafting gil. It was a worthy trade off. I run my RP FC, I make 10s of millions of gil, I craft, and I RP. The PVE grind for me, if it comes again, wont even start until after Alex Savage is long old and useless content. Embrace your RP, but if thats not enough, I guess you should find other outlets as well OP. For me I have more than just RP to look forward to, crafts to work and money to make. If you only had RP and PVE grinding and the PVE seems a little shitty, just go play another game m8.
  5. Master Goldsmith and Weaver. Otto is a fashion designed and is extremely rich off of his art he's made. Occasionally moonlights as an unapologetic womanizer and drug-fiend.
  6. What if someone tried to say they were an artisan in training, but were trying to RP before they'd been able to unlock other classes? Or if they'd made an alt for the purpose of RPing a crafter, despite their main having everything leveled? Oh I accept just about anything anyone else does, I'm just saying for my own self, I wont unless I level it. I also wont RP an Artisan without doing a lot of OC research into the craft at hand so I can RP on a competent level in regards to that creation process.
  7. I would never roleplay someone who was a Master Goldsmith/Weaver unless I had those jobs leveled up. Same goes for anything else. Thats how I handle it at least. When it comes to roleplaying an Artisan, your credibility OC/IC takes a massive boost when you can make them shit with your nametag on it. Thats just how it is, regardless of the pristine liberal stance many roleplayers take to IC/OC separation. This is the plain fact of the matter.
  8. Otto finds them abhorrent, for the most part. They are half-demon, if lore/what hes heard is to be true. How something like that gets born is quite disgusting to him, and he's not a terribly religious person. They are monster-peoples, akin to beast-tribes. He wont go KKK on them, but I doubt many will ever get close to him. He will avoid where he can, though being as political as he is, be courteous when he must. This doesn't even cover their actual physical appearance. With all that said, for better or worse, a female Au Ra is under Otto's wing after he fucking demolished her slaver male Au Ra. How they met wont be paraphrased here but after Otto practically killed the male for touching him and after that he told her she can work for him to build a new life or take some money and start a new life on her own. How that will work out, who knows. He openly treats her with bewilderment and is just unsure what to do "What on earth are you?" comes to his mind, but he's not vicious. The lizard tail and scales will never be something he settles fully.
  9. The old character is basically dead to me, and the new ones is a stranger. This is in regards to people that fantasia, namechange, and come up with all new characters altogether yet still expect me to act familiar. No. I can only disgest so much retcon. Needless to say I'm surrounded by strangers now but thats okay, I guess the old character wasn't very good if they rerolled just to play a tribe to marry a horse.
  10. This is actually my biggest concern with Chachan at times. I'm basically running off my basic knowledge of armor/weapon composition and what goes into them wrought from playing DnD. And sometimes a quick Google search for various things - like the melting point of cobalt - all stuff Chachan would know innately, but I haven't a clue on myself. I still try my best, though, looking stuff up and at least trying to make it look like the kid knows what he's doing. Worse comes to worse, I can always fall back on generic handwaving (* Chachan rambles on about the various pros and cons of multiple alloys) if I can't find some readily available information. Just... don't expect me to be able to be able to identify all the different kinds of hammers a smith uses or something without having to take a moment to look it up. Theres nothing wrong with not like, not knowing off hand the primary difference between various hammer shapes and forms, tbh I don't know half the names of common jeweler tools or weaving tools. I can probably name more variation blacksmith hammers than those things combined, but im a hobbyist at that so I cheat. Researching here like Chachan (and myself does - constantly), is what makes better crafter RP. No one does it though really. Very few.
  11. I'm curious to know in what form you'd like this representation to take, because I'm going to assume you're not necessarily advocating for arbitrary player character deaths. Major injuries from the many monsters that prowl around unchecked? Disease? Poverty? As for the subject matter, curiously enough I don't believe I see much of artisan-centric or gatherer roleplay. There are plenty of player characters who are adventurers, merchants, and self-proclaimed jack-of-all-trades, but a dedicated alchemist character? A dedicated armorer? A dedicated weaver? A miner who wants to strike it rich? A botanist who wants to cultivate rare flora? Hell, a travelling fisherman? Sure, these mundane aspirations aren't too interesting on the surface, and having a character who is a noncombatant can make certain situations awkward, but I think there is a good amount of material to build a character off of these concepts. Lilia and I are dedicated RPers towards Goldsmithing and Weaving. Its even how Otto introduces himself lately since I dropped the shitty UlDah politics IC. I flex those Mater GSM/WVR rings in my rp. But its incredibly rare. Most people are content to be generic adventurers "who take on odd jobs here an' there for a bit o' gil to drink mead at the tavern", and theres nothing wrong with it but its everywhere. So few artisan RPers. Even fewer artisan RPers who can even remotely have a discussion about the actual crafting process. Sadly most people who rp crafters of some sort, can't even tell you the boiling point of water IC or OOC (if they are an alchemist or a culinarian for example), but thats its own problem. It reminds me of people who roleplay combative characters but never combat rp. Sure. Ive actually ran into one other "fashion designer" rper who couldnt name or explain a single crochet stitch method of any kind for any application and they just expect to be taken seriously on it. The majority of crafting rp becomes super shallow, and doesn't rise above the level of tavern-tier rp, because no one does any OOC research to back up any IC crafting discussion. This is why most people dont both with crafter rp.
  12. Real talk should we not have like discussion about..."Where is this random thing for this GSM quest / not talk about them?" Not upset just wondering.
  13. Stay away from mine, she bites This changes nothing.
  14. Japan doesn't make good vidya anymore, but I'll still buy it on PC.
  15. How does a highlander bro get honorary member status
  16. I use invigorate as a skill because Otto draws aether from the ground. It works
  17. Otto pulls aether from himself and the ground when he opens up his chakras to punch a level higher. Dont bother getting too deeply involved with the mechanics and nuanced when you dont even rp together. Do what you and your rp partners enjoy. And whoever is telling you that you can't do this, tell them to speak with me. Do what you want.
  18. You like drugs? I like drugs. We can work with that.
  19. Guess I'll be the shitposter and state how literally the only thing I care about from the xpac is new clothes. Lore = totally irrelevant to my RP plots, actually this is true for the entire XPAC for the foreseeable future PVE wise I'm not excited either, though my DRG is going to still fuck shit up with the fury when it comes time for that. RIP Xpac, my RP was too good for you.
  20. Oh fuck Threads over boys. (Tell me more of your logic Lilia) Oh, just that one thing. It just has that perfect fashion designer sound. "That's a beautiful lab coat." "Thanks! It's an Otto Vann." I assumed you did this on purpose? I chose the name Otto Vann back in P3/P4 Beta because I had lived in Germany fur drei jahren due to my wifes mililtary career. Otto Vann being a RP - Player Character is recent. Just dumb luck on my part. Happy accident his name is sexy for crafting
