  1. Hello again folks! I bring to you, once more, a roleplay guide for those interested in playing certain character traits; in this case, a character with albinism or leucism! Please note that I do not wish to police anyone's roleplay, and thus leave this as just an informational guide for those interested- we ARE playing in a fantasy setting, after all! So! What is Albinism? Albinism is a recessive, inherited genetic trait that can affect any vertebrate creatures- humans, and our other lovable humanoid characters in game. It's a lack of melanin- the thing that gives your skin, hair, and eyes pigment. What does Albinism involve? Well, there is the very obvious trait of lacking pigmentation. The skin is very light and sensitive to sunlight, easily causing sunburns and skin related problems (skin cancers). Despite common misconception, the eyes of someone with albinism are not red. Actually, the iris is a very pale blue/grey, but the blood vessels behind them are easily seen. Eye colour can 'change' according to the lighting in which they are viewed, looking light green, blue, red, or violet. Those affected with albinism always have a degree of vision problems. In real life, coke-bottle glasses and special binocular-like devices are used to help keep a fair standard of living. Detail loss is the most common issue, making reading or seeing intricate patterns difficult if not impossible. I suggest looking into bloggers with albinism, as they tend to go into detail about their vision problems. Photophobia (an intake of too much light), Nystagmus ('dancing' eyes, involuntary eye movements that make focusing on detail near impossible), and Astigmatism (blurred vision) are also common visual defects. The hair of those with albinism tends to be a shocking, snowy white colour- however, shades of red and strawberry blonde are also common. This goes for eyelashes, eyebrows, and body hair as well. Here is a gif of someone who has nystagmus: Here is a bird with albinism; note that it's entire body lacks pigmentation, and that the red/pink colours come from blood vessels below the skin: http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/10/15/article-1220640-06D4621E000005DC-661_634x340.jpg[/img] You mentioned Leucism, what is that? Leucism is a lot like Albinism in that it effects the pigmentation in the body- however, instead of a total lack of melanin, the colour loss is caused by a defect in pigment cells. Because of this, sections of the body- eyes, for example -can still retain their intended genetic colours. This is usually associated with piebald colour patterns in animals For example, this bird- it's eyes and legs have retained their colour, while much of their body has little to no pigmentation: http://www.burdr.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/4604331564_327d32511d.jpg[/img] Leucistic animals do not suffer from eye conditions like their albino counterparts. Leucisim is (At least, I can't find any sources that says it is) not found in humans- however, as this is a fantasy setting with flying fish and giant thunder-grandpa's, there should be no harm in transferring the traits to a character. -- If you'd like to know more about albinism or leucism, since this guide is very simple, here are some links to check out! These are also my sources for information, along side some documentary I watched ages ago and can't find again. Wiki page for Albinism Wiki page for Leucism N.O.A.H (National Organization for Albinism and Hypopigmentation) I hope you all found this informative! I shall now return to my lurking. And perhaps a nap. Edited for typo- As far as I know, there are no character trains coming to this station. Edited for addition- As noted in a comment, red/strawberry blonde hair can be seen on those with albinism.
  2. Elezen Name: Odile Dornier (Oh-Dial Dorn-ear) Elezen clan: Duskwight Gender: Female Timezone: Central Looking for?: Citizen roleplay with minor plots- Odile would not fit in with grand adventures/evil villain mastermind plots/anything involving a lot of travel. See her profile as to why. Lore: I like it, but don't know much of it. A tutor would be nice. I'd like to think she is an average, if not slightly off model, Duskwight. RP limits: No sexual violence, no physical confrontations unless previously talked about, and no perma-death. OOC communication is a major must forever and always. I am totes magoats alright with gorey description when it comes to Odile's work, however.

  4. For Umi, this is the one that comes to mind easiest.
  5. Figured it out, and like'd! Do you think you could also add the nobles clothing from Ul'dah NPCs to that post? Like: I'd kill for that outfit, turban included.
  6. I WOULD like the post, because heck yeah more RP clothes- but for some reason I can't pick a 'main' for the forums and thus can't do anything :c

    Plays

This is very encouraging! I'll plan a play of my own and post an 'audition' once it's ready- and anyone who already has plays in mind, look! People willing to be in them! Gather them up and hoard them like nuts.

    Plays

Absolutely! I would probably write up the play in google docs- with positioning and lines detailed out, as well as the overall feel of the performance, but IC rehearsals and costuming would be fun to work with!

    Plays

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in creating/partaking in plays of various nature? I have a passing knowledge of Greek plays and Noh theater, and am interested in creating more role-play events that help contribute to the cultures of the various city states. I would assume that the plays would need to be written by scratch, kept short, and would require a lot of costumes/masks/emotes. Would anyone be interested in collaborating, participating, or at the very least watching these sort of things? If so, I would be happy to make one as an example for others to follow~!
  10. As someone who has clients wanting age-play: anyone who thinks that so long as the people are legal age, then it is okay to pretend otherwise is so very incredibly wrong. It is unhealthy and enabling of fantasies that are dangerous. Please do not do it.
  11. Are you kidding? I LOVE open, friendly debate on the topic! Though perhaps I ought to make a separate thread for such things, as well as gauge headcanons of others on the subject of paid or kept lover and entertainers.
  12. Most certainly! There have been actual cases in real history where men have taken up the title of courtesan and/or "mistress". It is generally a female term, but can easily be taken by men, trans, fluid, or non-binary characters! Though, we ought to think up a title for cis-male characters in regards to "mistress". "Lover" is too generic, and "Mister" just doesn't hold the same weight- suggestions are most welcome!
  13. As per typically nerdy me, I am going to FINALLY watch the movie "Belle". It's about a mix-raced woman, daughter of a naval officer and a slave, who actually lived in the 17th century named Bell Dido. I'm a giant sucker for costume dramas, and if it's got real historical meaning (much like The Duchess), I'm gonna be so happy. Other than that, probably draw. Might finally write the story zooming around in my head.
  14. Ayesha Takia, Indian actress, is Umi's FC even if I tend to draw her chin a bit more angular.
  15. A bit of an after thought- Should anyone be interested in movies/shows/documentaries regarding some of the Courtesan types and stories listed here, I have some links to share! Tayuu/Oiran: A movie called "Sakuran" is a fictional, stylized movie based on a Manga. Here is the trailer for it- If you do decide to watch it, I have to warn you that it is very hard to find a decent torrent to download, and expensive to buy. For those curious about the famous walk, here is a good example from the movie "Yoshiwara Enjo"; Cortigiana Onesta/Di Lume: Veronica Franco inspired a movie about her life, called "Dangerous Beauty", which is very pretty but also terribly fluffy in nature (so full of cheese and sop). They also seemed to have spent their entire budget on costume and thus the one 'fight' scene is hilariously sad. You can find it on Netflix, but here is the link to the trailer. Mistresses: This is how you know I am a giant history nerd; I have a favorite historian. Lucy Worsley has made many mini documentaries on historical happenings from how the house has evolved over time, to fashion in the Elizabethan era. She made a very good series called "Harlots, Housewives, and Heroines", the one based on Mistresses linked here; LINK Another good documentary for the french is the Versailles trilogy that follows the Kings Louis 14, 15, and 16. Louise XIV Louise XV Louise XVI (I especially like the description of Du Berry in the Louise XV episode- I can't help but laugh every time.) Until I see more, and of the other kinds of courtesans, I have no more to recommend. Tell me if you enjoy these! I always like to know if someone has learned something interesting or are at least amused by the films.
  16. Personally, I'm hoping to go out ghost hunting with some friends! If I can get my hands on a wheel chair, then I'll be able to go out. We're planning on going to the old cemetery where Buddy Holly and the city's first murder victim are buried. If I cant, then I'm sort of stuck at home because of my legs. Maybe I'll do some tarot. Maybe we can go to the local arcade. Having mobility issues really sucks ;; As a costume, I'll probably shave fish scales into my mohawk sides and make myself up as a mermaid because I'm obsessed with them. What will you be doing? What would you want to do if you could? Are you gonna dress up?
  17. I have decided to turn my hatred from all the birdies and sunshine outside towards my work and pop a commission out, so at least this morning will be a productive one. Again, thank my gods for Tramadol; pain free for even a few hours is bliss.
  18. A vast majority of my clothing is black. It's something I am trying to fix, because colour is nice on occasion, but there is nothing quite like a black T, sblack sweats, and my onoxiously black fluffy socks.
  19. I blacklist gold-sellers asap and only delete them from the list if they are actually deleted. I do have others on my list; RP-policers, folks who have said racial/sexist/homophobic/transphobic BS, and creepers who get way too comfortable in whispers with me. Only takes once for it, 'cause I do not have time to deal with or tolerate nonsense in my pretendy-fun-time.
  20. Nothing like waking up at 6am to pins and needles and electric jolts coursing through your legs. Perks you up better than coffee. Thank my gods for tramadol and corner store mini donuts. Blegh. How are ya'll this morning? What are you doing? What plans do you have? What's for breakfast? .... What are... you... wearing?
  21. "An asexual is someone who does not experience sexual attraction. Unlike celibacy, which people choose, asexuality is an intrinsic part of who we are. There is considerable diversity among the asexual community; each asexual person experiences things like relationships, attraction, and arousal somewhat differently. Asexuality does not make our lives any worse or any better, we just face a different set of challenges than most sexual people. Asexuality is distinct from celibacy or sexual abstinence, which are behaviours, while asexuality is generally considered to be a sexual orientation. Some asexuals do participate in sex, for a variety of reasons." Asexual people can and do engage in sex- they are not unfeeling robots incapable of biological arousal or an understanding of sexual behavior.
  22. Well well! This is my kind of thread- I love thinking and talking about character sexuality and it's place in the setting. My current main character, Z'zhumii Umi is a courtesan. Sexuality is her business. She is also asexual and aromantic. I know, I know, you might be scratching your head a little at that. Why would she end up in a profession that mainly revolves around sex and attraction? What does she get out of it? Well, the answer to that is gil. While she herself does not experience sexual or romantic attraction to anyone, sex is still pretty neato and the money people pay her for it is nothing to scoff at. Umi is in it solely for the business aspect, and she will play on the affections of others to keep the money flowing. I do charge actual girl for ERP with others on Umi- It actually helps keep my roleplay from devolving solely into smut. Since the cost is so high, most people won't bother to try and engage Umi for that kind of roleplay, which is nice when I want to focus on plots and events. I recently (like, a few minutes ago!) finished my big guide on courtesans in history and RP, so it's a big obvious on how open I am with character and setting sexuality
  23. And the guide is now done! Thank you for being patient on it- as you can see, it was a lot of work (14 paged! I should get a history degree )
  24. Mistresses are now covered! Woo, that was a long one.
