That (6-3-6-3) is the format of the pre-order bonus codes, yes. If you ordered from the NA SE store, it will be in your initial receipt e-mail under "Pre-Order Bonus Package" or something like that.

Best way to officially petition for looping music?
Adelpha replied to Dameon's topic in FFXIV Discussion
From the latest feedback list: "In response to requests to allow BGMs to loop continuously, we are currently looking into creating a BGM system to play them." So, probably coming at some point in the future, but don't expect it at launch. -
Legacy Players: Keeping Old Character or Starting Fresh?

Thanks for sharing! So no comment on if we can change the character name. As Murlona said, we can! I've bolded it for easier finding. -
Legacy Players: Keeping Old Character or Starting Fresh?
Adelpha replied to Salty Lake's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Keeping. I'm changing her clan to Highlander, which matches her IC appearance better than the Midlander model does, but I chose the second option because I don't really consider that a "race change." -
Best way to officially petition for looping music?
Adelpha replied to Dameon's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Yeah, I'm personally OK with it the way it is now. Being able to hear the very well-done ambient sounds without repetitive music going on all the time can be really immersive and enjoyable. Most of the overworld music cues in the game are also between 0:45 and 1:30 in length, too, which I imagine would get really repetitive if they were to loop endlessly. They're more used for flavor when you move into a new area than as a persistent background theme, which is the reason that they've cited for why they haven't added in a looping option. That said, I'd have absolutely no problem with the option if it were made available, since obviously a lot of people feel strongly about it, and it wouldn't hurt anyone. I just probably wouldn't use it most of the time! -
Being that all content above level 20 is disabled this weekend as well, all we can really do anyway is just look around. A lot of good stuff in those notes!

New ARR Promotional Trailer (JP) Unlisted on YT
Adelpha replied to justamemory's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I'm curious whether it will or not; this video is made for use in Japanese storefronts. It's possible, but I'm also pretty certain that none of the narration is actually anything we don't already know. -
Don't worry about it, it was just a lighthearted joke in an attempt to bring some levity to this thread.

Yeah, my laptop gets in the 2000s (I think) on maximum settings too, but around 4500 on "high-ish" settings. Save your score after running the benchmark and look at the "average FPS" value in the log file. If it's below 30, you may want to consider lowering your settings. Using the same graphics settings I used in the beta, my average FPS from the benchmark is listed at around 37-38 and I had zero problems doing dungeons or FATEs. Probably the single most expensive setting in the graphics options is SSAO, so you may want to turn that off if it isn't already.

I don't think so. Otherwise, a whoooooole lot of Miqo'te players from 1.0 are going to have to retcon some stuff!

The Cowl of Nocturnal, but in potion form? Haha, interesting idea.

Open Beta & Early Access, Live Letter 8 Discussion

So we can change everything except our character's name? Cool! You can change that too! -
I think such a thing could open up a huge can of worms: say, someone commits a crime, then drinks a phial to completely change their identity in order to escape prosecution. Or, someone makes a character who's rich and has access to large stockpiles of fantasia so they can ICly change their appearance on a daily basis. I'd hope that phials would be extremely rare ICly, but that still won't prevent people from potentially abusing it. (Especially since no actual character race change is necessary; such a person could just make one-off alts of varying races and genders to represent their shape-shifted alter egos.) IMO, it comes down to interpreting whether this is some in-world window dressing to place on top of a gameplay mechanic, or actually a conscious change to the lore that SE is making. Do we think that lore NPCs would have access to such a thing, or would we ever see a lore NPC use one? If not, then we probably shouldn't assume we have access to them either.

More hair options! There are quite a lot of them in there now (especially compared to 1.0), but the ability to now change our hairstyles from time to time gives me an insatiable appetite for all of the hairstyles I can get.

Which Grand Company is YOUR Free Company going to associate with?!
Adelpha replied to Arelian Solin's topic in RP Discussion
Unless your FC is RP-based and has its own IC identity, it probably makes the most sense just to hold a poll among your FC members. As such, even though I'm alllll about the Maelstrom, it's not really my choice to make! -
New comprehensive FFXIV-ARR character & demographic multi-site survey
Adelpha replied to Neon's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I think the numbers are skewed a bit given that, prior to level 30, it's the only healing class. When you tally things up in terms of tanks/DD/healers, it's a little more in line with what you may be used to -
Probably depends a lot on whether you want your character to have legitimate supernatural foresight, or just be a traditional cold-reader. If the former, it could lead to very interesting RP if you do some research ahead of time to get familiar with the character that you'd be reading. You'd be unable to make a reading about that character's private thoughts unless that player was willing to OOCly give you some info to go on, but then that makes it feel a lot less exciting when someone receives a good reading. I'd be a little curious about whether such a thing is justifiable from a lore perspective (especially what potential cans of worms someone with future sight could open up), but there's so much supernatural stuff in the game's story nowadays that you might be able to get away with it as long as you don't use those powers to metagame. If the latter, it could also be interesting, but I'd personally find it draining to play a charlatan for a long period of time.

This is a pretty fair point. Sometimes I forget that the amount of attribute points that you have to play with at level 50 (30 points total?) is pretty small overall. I think that's a small enough amount that skill could easily make up the difference.

Open Beta & Early Access, Live Letter 8 Discussion

Those fashion outfits! :surprise: EDIT: The kabutos are the New Year's holiday gear; the animal on it corresponds to the Chinese "year animal" for that year. 2014 is the year of the horse, so the kabutos for New Year's next year will have a horse on them. -
Beta phase 4: 1.0 Character Recustomization Available?
Adelpha replied to Momoji Momochi's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I believe that the last we've heard from SE, it will be at "launch." I'd like it to be sooner, and maybe it will be, but I don't think they've confirmed any such thing yet. -
At the very least:

How are you planning to render that name in-game? You can only capitalize the first letter of each name, so "VIII" wouldn't be possible. Are you going to use "Vlll"? I don't recall what the lowercase "L" looks like on the nameplate font, but I'll assume that it would be a reasonable stand-in. (Even then, though, you could cause confusion when people try to whisper you or end up calling you "Vlll", not knowing that it's inaccurate!) You could also use "Eight" or something. EDIT: I see by copy-pasting that you're already using "Vlll" (lower-case L's). Answers that, then!

I'm going to start off by saying that I'm generally extremely in favor of adhering to official lore wherever possible, and not writing anything into your backstory that would contradict official sources. But. I agree that the nature of most of the job lore in the game is sort of a sticky topic. Most of the job questlines that I've seen more or less state that the player character is extremely exceptional to be able to pick up the mantle of that particular long-lost Job, such that it's extremely unlikely that more than a very small handful of people (or just a single person) in Eorzea can canonically actually have undertaken that storyline. But then, the main storyline in most of these MMOs have almost always been the same way: you are the chosen one, you are the one person that all of the rulers of the realm are able to trust, and you are the one person that's able to save the world from total destruction (and for good reason: if you were just a random schmuck who was milling around town while other people fought the big bads and saved the world, it'd probably be a pretty boring story!). Obviously, we can't ICly take these stories at face value, and have to either allow for some fudge factor ("there were actually many of us, not just me") or ignore them altogether ("someone in the world did that stuff, but I was nowhere near it"). We've already dealt with this to some extent with the Echo, where many players choose not to possess it ICly, since they don't want to give their character that much cosmic importance. In terms of game mechanics, this also creates a conflict when the job abilities and equipment that we get become canonically implausible for our characters to possess. If you're playing a Dragoon and you're jumping all over the place and wearing fancy Dragoon armor in combat, should that be considered IC? Or are you just a regular lancer, despite what the game makes it look like? If you're healing as a white mage, are you actually the chosen one? Or are you just a generic healer? If you're not ICly a White Mage but someone comments on the AF that you happen to be wearing, what do you do? Is there a way that you can be a "White Mage" but not the "White Mage?" Do we have no choice but to completely ignore all of the rich Job lore that SE has written, or is there some way that we can adapt it to make it somewhat less lore-breaking? (I don't have an answer or opinion on this, I just think it'd be an interesting point of discussion.) It's obvious that the player-centric stories of MMOs, and even the game mechanics themselves, can often be directly at odds with the RP group canon that we try to create for ourselves, and because of this, it can be extremely difficult to not step on the toes of the official lore in some way. We should strive not to trample across the fiction whenever possible, but I think it's impossible to remain 100% lore-adherent, especially as new lore is written later on that may contradict an assumption you made years ago. As such, I believe that we should allow each other some wiggle room about it, and some understanding. (Just so long as we don't all go off and start making ourselves Archons and turncoat Legate!) EDIT: For references, there should be videos of all of the 1.0 job questline cutscenes on YouTube. Most of that stuff is in there.
