  1. Hello new friend! We've got a pretty solid Ishgard LS going. You should join. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=10848 It's a pretty chill LS, so be aware that not all conversation will be specifically about Ishgard. But everyone's really cool and we usually RP at the Observatorium tavern.
  2. Wow, I love these! If you ever change your mind about commissions, my wallet is ready :bouncy:
  3. These are neat! If you're okay with drawing another dog, I'd love a picture of Ru Ru! He's a Coerthan Husky puppy. He's still pretty small, but he's super brave! Marisa tends to get lost or caught in trouble a lot, so he's got a pretty big job for a little dog.
  4. I was actually a little angry when I saw that armor for the first time. Because I'm a healer and I know it'll be DoW-locked. Easily the best set they've made thus far.
  5. Placebo effect. Everyone just thinks materia makes them stronger because that's what they've been told, and nobody can really prove otherwise. Meanwhile, Mutamix laughs hysterically while rolling around in gil.
  6. I like plots! But I, uh... I'm never a part of them
  7. Nothing. She doesn't wear pants, and therefore has no pockets. Mishka carries the snacks. Usually popotos.
  8. But it proves that you *can* grow crops in Coerthas, anyhow. Also, this doesn't prove they eat dragons, but it's worth noting, Finally, two more things: firstly, I mentioned that dragons probably taste like alligator, but I forgot that Ishgard literally has alligators, and those are totally edible. Also, there are karakuls everywhere, which is basically a sheep. Meaning Ishgard might have things like haggis or gyros.
  9. Guys. How did nobody else find this. Cabbage. Ishgardians eat cabbage. And oranges?
  10. Carbuncles are actually warp daemons?
  11. That's disgusting. AND HERESY. *torches and pitchforks* I think dragon meat would taste like alligator. It's not great, but it's edible and you can make it better by adding spices and whatnot. Basically the same idea as goat meat. Although it tastes nothing like goat meat.
  12. Well, seeing as Marisa would probably lose anything that didn't actively follow her... does a dog count?
  13. I'd be willing to put money down that this is what happened, as far as racial traits. So obviously there's a common ancestor. This ancestor propagated and spread across the globe into separate tribes. Much like real humans, these separate tribes all evolved different traits to help them survive in their new environments. But instead of getting Asians and Nords and Blacks and Indians, we got Cats and Giants and Elves and Garden Gnomes. In fact, if we really put our heads together, we could probably determine the environments each race came from by analyzing what advantages their racial traits would give them. For example, Miqo'te probably evolved as Savannah hunters, where lalafells likely lived somewhere where food and resources were scarce, making it advantageous to be small. Roegadyns, by contrast, probably come from somewhere where food is plentiful, but predators are common. Thus making it advantageous to be large.
  14. I MET ROU ROU TODAY. We healed LoA together. For those who don't know, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqJrWz9BCi4 A couple other members of her FC were there, too. It was super cool. Rou Rou died on King Behemoth. Also, I've now officially met (well, in-game met) all of my favorite FFXIV youtubers.
  15. One of my favorite things about Warhammer Online was basically being told that I was meaningless cannon-fodder. Was a pretty refreshing change from games that constantly portray the player as the "chosen one", and it fit the Warhammer universe really well.
  16. Very true, very true. I guess the thing about Limsa is that they've probably made up more racial slurs than any other nation, but that's more because they like making up words, not because they actually hate anyone.
  17. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd like to clarify what I'm talking about here. There's this common perception that Ishgard is by and far the most racist of the 4 nations. If we're going by *only* in-game evidence, it's actually the least racist of the 4. I cannot stress this enough, hating foreigners is not the same thing as racism. They often go hand-in-hand, but they are completely separate concepts. Yeah, there's racism everywhere, so by default it exists in Ishgard as well. What I'm trying to get across is that they aren't out hanging non-elezens from trees and burning spears in people's yards. How this ties back to the original point is that just because they're not in love with the idea of having a miqo'te in their midst, doesn't mean they're going to show her the door either.
  18. Hey, past!me. It's current/future!me. We tried, man. We tried. It was a valiant effort, but ultimately doomed to fail. I don't think there's anything you could have done.
  19. It is not absurd at all. It is entirely reasonable given the environment of the world, and what we know about Ishgard. It fits the rubric. Because of the focus upon religion and the war against the Dravanians there are routes to earn positions of respect and authority within the military, but the firm grip of Elezen upon the levers of power does not seem to be threatened. And it's certainly possible, because we absolutely don't have the full picture. So, as you said, all we can do is speculate. My problem is that a lot of folks are taking what is essentially just a theory, and declaring it to be the set-in-stone truth. And even if that theory turns out to be true in the future, "extreme and systematic" would be an exaggeration. At most, being a non-elezen in Ishgard would be more similar to being an Arab American post-9/11. The Elezen are not conducting their own holocaust.
  20. I don't think it's realistic to presume that Ishgard is not racist at all. Everyone's racist. No matter who you are, no matter where you are. I think it would be more feasible to argue that race as a factor is simply not AS prominent in Ishgardian society as it is in places like Gridania. Well I'm honestly not arguing against there being any racism. I play my own character as being hated for being a half-breed. However, the claim was made that Ishgard practices extreme and systematic racism, which is absurd.
  21. And where Ishgard is the least normal of the city states. They aren't just arbitrary zealots, they are religious zealots. The NPC dialogue shows that they only care about whether or not you follow their religion. This is in stark contrast to the other 3 states, where we absolutely have concrete, indisputable examples of racism. Ishgard is the only one which has thus not partaken in that.
  22. To my knowledge and recollection, this was not implied or confirmed anywhere, merely speculated due to appearance. Did I miss a lore drop somewhere? I probably did. :< Someone on reddit awhile back data-mined the models. She has a third eye under her circlet. We only know of one race which has a third eye.
  23. But Aya, this entire premise rests on the idea that religious zealotry is inherently racist. But the thing of it is, Ishgard really gives 0 shits what size or color you are, or whether or not you have a tail. What we currently know of Ishgard is this: They see the world as two categories of people: Believers and Unbelievers. Anything else is a minor detail.
  24. But you're all ignoring the part where Ishgard, to my knowledge, has never expressed any racism. Everyone just assumed they were racist without any real evidence.
  25. So we've basically established that Gridania should be the state known for hateful racism, not Ishgard.
