  1. Something for a little more light hearted fun. Who is your sensei and senpai on the forums? Multiple senpai and sensei accepted! Also... can someone please explain to me what the 'notice me, senpai' thing is. I cannot figure it out.
  2. Okies, guys, back on track please. Remember, SMILE and helpfulness. It's been a pretty positive thread so far, please lets keep it that way. :3
  3. Good for you, Berrod, because I am still trying to crack the code that is Warren and I am miserably failing at it! :frustrated: On the subject of ERP, though. I don't see why it's considered such a taboo. Provided that the build up to it is natural and it is a result of consistent interaction and relationship, communication OOC is switched on, you know the person well OOCly, and all necessary boundaries are observed, i.e, same thing, I'm not my character, etc. etc., all the things pointed out by the posters in this thread, let your characters engage in sexual activity. This stuff happens all the time in movies and books, but no one labels the actors or writers as 'wrong' or 'eww'. Our characters are individuals and like all individuals, they have needs. Like in real life. But sadly, unlike in real life, the character and the RPer are labeled 'eww...'. If your characters are truly as realistic and normal as possible, then they will experience feelings and interaction of sexual nature at some point in their lives. So, that said, no, I am not against ERP at all. Of course, provided that it is the general RP that leads to the ERP and not the other way around, i.e, ERP is the sole reason you RP, it's perfectly plausible to me. My two gil.
  4. Correct. We should display a fine sense of maturity in RP. Level headed and cool thinking are two very important tools in that aspect. And conversation. Very important magical thingy, that! As mentioned by pretty much everyone in the thread. Remember, CONVERSE! I get the feeling the two are linked. Only a person with a collected methodology of thinking would go into conversation and try and avoid repercussions of any sort, or rectify any misunderstandings. Immature people tend to flare up and go bonkers for little to no reasons. (Like children. That's why you almost never call a 5 year old a mature person :surprise: ) But, erm, I'm not sure I understood what you mean by the spoliers in your last sentence.
  5. It absolutely counts, for sure. It's real-life tedium that makes you want to load yourself into a cannon in a chum outfit and fire yourself into a pool of sharks. It counts. *dresses up as a carrot and jumps into a cannon* FIRE! Fire, I say! I'm going to fly! *parrots severely disapprove*
  6. Hellos and welcomies to the RPC!! :bouncy: Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS!
  7. CHWONO!! :bouncy: Hellos and welcomies to the RPC! I think it's perfectly plausible to know how to use more than one weapon, but like Faye stated, that means he can't be awesome at all of them. However, correct me if I'm wrong, but it could be possible for a character to be very good at one weapon and okay at the rest, yes? And remember, we're all a friendly bunch here (aren't we, Warren?), and lots of the aforementioned friendly bunch are very learned in the lore of the game, so ask questions whenever you need to, or whenever you are in doubt. It helps. :3 And welcome to the world of RP.
  8. The 'Oh, but you look perfectly fine' look, and all the other things associated with it. Oh, you look fine, stop thinking you're sick. It's all in your head. Stop thinking about it and it will go away. ...who the hell are you? My rheumatologist? :dodgy: When the old people say, oh our knees hurt too. You're young, you don't hurt. Hey, old lady, since when has it been a competition? Oh, you know X! Oh, X is so smart, they're loved by everyone, X is perfect. Be more like X. Learn from X's example. I'm not X and X isn't me! :frustrated: Being told that you were not there for me for a long time, when I was lying in bed, unable to move because everything hurt so much. Haha, this one left me with a baffled look on my face. When I can't understand a simple sentence, and I get those looks with "You are soooo dumb" plastered on them, and more examples of the overachieving X, Y and Z. Do you have any idea how frustrating it is when your brain is away on a loooong vacation? *berserk mode, lots of screaming and stomping, parrots will most likely disapprove*
  9. I don't work, I study, does that count? It's not easy, it's frustrating, there is crying and hair pulling, head slamming and self slapping, there are expectations and competition, it makes you want to sometimes jump off the roof, or unleash your parrots on the world and laugh diabolically! ...actually, scratch that parrot part. It counts, right?? Does it count?
  10. I'm really happy lots of people gave so much valuable insight. Thank you everyone, you're all awesome, hats off. :bouncy: On the self insert thing, and Mary Sueism, I try to make my characters as grounded and realistic as possible. Also, self insert has never been my thing. I just like to make up characters and then make a story for them. :3 And yes, people can have a tendency to grow attached to their character, and I suppose that's normal and understandable, but try not to get -too- attached, it sort of blurs the IC OOC boundary, and it lets your emotions seep into the RP. For example, if your character is hurt by some other character, you kind of unintentionally let your emotions dictate your character's behaviour. To be honest, Eleni is a dear character of mine, but just because she has an issue with some person does not mean I do. And just because she may fall in love certainly does not mean I will. I suppose the same can apply for self inserts as well. But, I'm not against anything, I just try to enjoy Eleni's story. On the note of people judging people based on their characters, I have two good examples I'd like to share. *spoliers for The Last of Us, do not read the first example if you have not finished that game* 1. David from The Last of Us. Played by Nolan North. Now, when you first meet David, he seems like a nice guy, agrees to help Ellie, and even helps her through an Infected Horde. Then he turns out to be one hell of an asshole, cannibalistic and crazy. So, you can never judge a character based on one appearance. Secondly, Nolan North is known for a lot of other memorable roles as well, would you call him crazy and evil just because he voiced David? 2. The Joker. Played by Heath Ledger. No spoilers for this one because, hey, who doesn't know the Joker, and I'm pretty sure every one has seen The Dark Knight. Now, we all know the Joker is a lunatic, perhaps the baddest of baddies in comic books. The things he has done to scar Batman are numerous. But, would you say Heath Ledger was the same just because he played him? Bottom line, do not judge a person based on their character. IC and OOC are two completely different things, i.e, person is not equal to character. Character is character and that's it. I got hungry after typing all that.
  11. ^ Yay, cookie for Chris! He got it right! It was just me trying to stress on it, so upper case letters! SMILE!
  12. I'm so happy that everyone is giving such valuable advice and information. So happy... T^T (those are happy tears) I also hope it is helpful for everyone, whether new RPers or experienced ones. It was certainly very helpful to me. Can I just give a standing ovation to all the people who posted on this thread, and to all the people who will post on this thread. You guys are awesome. :3 :bouncy:
  13. Okies. One of the most common things I have heard is people making snap judgements on the player based on the character. Just because the character is a crazy psychopath who goes around raping and murdering, or the character is a seductress does not mean the player behind the character is the same. Heck, the player could be the complete opposite. Things I do or would do to deal with this (and pretty much all of my RP) are: 1. Pretend the player does not even exist. It's just the character, mine and theirs. I do not exist in the RP, and neither does the other. Think of it as NPCs interacting, or two characters in a movie/anime interacring with each other. 2. Another important thing is to not let yourself get in the way. You are not your character. You are a different entity and your character is someone else entirely. If your cannot understand this, you're missing thr point of RP. It's called Roleplay, you play the role of a character like actors and voice actors do. 3. Perhaps the most important bit is to converse, talk. If something makes you way too uncomfortable, it's a good idea to talk so that instead of bottled up emotions turning sour, things can get cleared up nicely. 4. And what if you figure out that you just don't like the other person? Well, in cases like that I say we are gifted to have two ears. Hear with one and if you don't like what you heard, toss it out the other before your brain gets a chance to process it. If that still doesn't work, there's a magical tool called the blacklist. 5. Above all, before you judge other people and their characters look at yourself and your character. It stops you from pointing a lot of fingers. No one is perfect. No one. 6. SMILE. Well, there's some input from my side.
  14. Right. Some things I would like to clarify about this thread. 1. This is a thread where RPers can suggest methods or tactics they apply to keep this boundary firm. It is a means to better help understand this IC OOC line, and prevent blurring and the multitude of problems that come with it. You could call it a guide of sorts. 2. It is not a thread where you can toss in all sorts of negativities or make the thread go aggressive, hostile etc. Refrain from posting anything on this thread other that is against the SMILE way. The SMILE way endorses postivity and happy and of course, smiles. 3. As much as I want this to be helpful and useful to everyone and do not want the thread to turn into a battlefield and therefore get closed, I will not hesistate to ask the mods to shut it down if things get heated. If all the above is clear, you can post. Remember, smiles and postivity.
  15. What I do (since my phone cable is stupid and won't be detected by my PC, is send pictures from the phone to my email, then open email on my computer and download them... then upload them on a picture sharing site and post them! But what if someone does not have an account on a picture sharing site? :surprise:
  16. So many adorable animals!! Whee! :bouncy: Incoming stupid noob question: Is it possible to put up pictures directly from my phone here? If so, how?? :dazed: The memes were cute and hilarious at the same time, all the kitties, and the doggies and the horsies I want to hug! ... ... and message for Val: Since Faye's love for cats knows no bounds (and I love that fact), prepare yourself for a collar and leash! Do it, do it, I say! Oh, Mitto the NAC bit me yesterday... and bit Peaches, plucking off two feathers from her forehead... few days before that he bit Lolly and plucked a couple of his feathers... Problematic parrot doesn't want me to go back to college. Ah, yes. My next story will be about true love! ... but first I need to know how to put up pictures from my phone...
  17. HE'S ADORABLE!! :3  I should put up some pictures of my parrots. (But I don't know how to! I'm so stupid! )
  18. I think that's a fair bet. Warren's got a hot date with his waifu before the Grindstone. Warren has a waifu?! ... Define hot date.
  19. What's a stock? I've actually heard numerous times people considering Haukke Manor a, ahem, 'sex dungeon' as everyone is so affectionately calling it. :surprise: But, I'm usually just busy killing the skeletons or the succubi. Wait... Do the succubi have something to do with- Nah... :dodgy:
  20. *nod nod* Yay, everyone will be having fun! :3 But, what about your characters, what will they be up to on/around Valentione's Day? Will there be a lot of adowable couples running around?
  21. Hrm... So what's everyone's plans for Valentione's day? :3
  22. I'm usually online late, 10pm PST onwards, due to time zone differences. ( :dodgy: ) More GMTish. But if you see C'eleni Meztli online, send her a poke, and I'll help you out with whatever I can help you out with. :3 Oh, and Steel, I also help you... but that online hours time... Actually, I'll try and help pretty much anyone I can. Be it RP wise or gameplay wise, pick me! Pick me! Do it! Do it, I say! :bouncy: (Please note that I am not the best player, but I will try and help to the best of my abilities. :3)
  23. Just thought I'd make a cute thread about pets and animals, because they cute. Do you have a pet whose stories you wish to share, a cute animal you may have seen doing a cute thing, or anything animal related in general? Well, this is the thread for you. (And the spotlight for our furry, feathery, scaly etc. friends!) So, I'll start off. Allow me to introduce to you the NAC. What is the NAC, you say? Well, NAC stands for Natural Alarm Clock. What is this Natural Alarm Clock, you ponder? Well... first, let us see what an Alarm Clock is. It is a magical device or app in your phone that correctly remembers the time, and then wakes you up when you want to. Very convenient. And very responsive and obedient. Takes one smack or one swipe to shut it up. Good. Now let us come to the aptly named NAC, an alarm clock that works quite similarly, the only difference being shutting it, or rather him, up. You know those weekends you just love? No work, no school. Peaceful sleep. Well... they're just a fantasy. Because cue 9.00 am and the NAC starts screaming, ear piercing and head popping screaming (yes, screaming. Not squawking, screaming). Translation: Wake the fuck up. It's morning! And so you start with soothing words, 'There, there. Shh. Quiet now. That's quite enough.', and then progress to shouting and hair pulling, 'Shut up!! You despicable parrot!'. Problem is, both methods have the same output: More screaming. Then, you carry his cage to his usual spot and he calms down for a bit. Then the screaming resumes. Translation: Hey, why am I alone here?! Everyone else wake the fuck up! And so, the remainder parrots make their way to their usual spots, all groggy and sleepy, but none of them brave enough to challenge the NAC. Some more calm. Then comes even more screaming. Translation: Hey, where's the rest of the flock?! Wake the fuck up! It's morning! And so, the human part of the flock must sit on the sofas, sleep ruined. And then... he stops. His mission as the NAC is successful. Who needs a regular alarm clock when you've got a NAC, right? :frustrated: Oh, but who is the NAC? My oldest parrot, a green Indian Ringneck, big on personality and intellect. :3 (And hence, very loud screaming as well.) So, pets and animals, come share (or steal) the spotlight! Edit: Um, no one has any pets?
  24. Hey, is anyone else having problems downloading/patching 2.5? Unable to download patch files [30413] [20495] E'yup, that error pops up of its own accord. Also, is it just my download speed that has hit rock bottom? Anyone else having these issues? Do not do this to me again, FFXIV. :frustrated:
  25. That's a weird way to spell SUMIA. FeMU = Female Main Unit aka Female Robin
