RP Servers: A Discussion (mods please read before locking..)
Yssen replied to Mtoto Wamoto's topic in RP Discussion
Alright. Lets take all take a step back here, please. There seems to be more arguing than discussion going on here, and I do not believe that is keeping true to the spirit of why this issue was brought up. This is no right or wrong to this issue, at all. While I personally would like to see the community all agree to go to one server, I hardly think there is anyway to see 100% of the community go to the same server. We shall simply have to settle for a majority of the community going to one server or another. There is no right or wrong in any individual's personal decision to choose what type of server they wish to play one. Whether they choose to go with the majority or not is their decision, and that decision must be respected. Any poll, discussion, or declaration regarding the choice of a server should be understood to simply be something that puts forth the will of the majority. No one is going to make you pick a server, that is not what this site is about. That said, I believe that we as a community should strive to have a large presence on a single server. These questions that we should be asking ourselves; 1. If no official RP server is declared, which sever should become the new unofficial RP server? 2. If one is declared, and it is not the server we plan on staying on, are we willing to move to that official RP server? 3. What should the community represented by this site do in the case of multiple official or unofficial RP servers being named? In plain truth, I do not think we have been given enough information to make any sort of permanent decision on server choice. We have only rough ideas and speculation to go off of at this point. In light of this I believe that everyone here needs to be flexible and able to bend to the eventualities that loom in the future. I want to stress again that there is no right or wrong to the proposed question of this thread, or to any of the questions I am proposing in this post. Going after each other when we do not know what will happen or be announced in the future serves no purpose, other than to divide us due to our own rigidity. Let us all bend like the reed, and not snap like the twig. Also, we should remember that we are all here to have fun, and that is many different things to many different people. None of us has the right to tell anyone they are wrong. We only have the right to disagree or agree with one another. Thank you in advance for considering what I have said here. - Yssen -
Mmmm. This one suits Yssen best I think...

Parade raining mark two. I will try not to make a habit of this. The Ala Mhigan resistance is pretty much wiped out by the Black Wolf at the end of the original 1.0 main scenario. It exists no more. Gaius van Baelsar lured them, trapped them, and slaughtered them. To add insult to injury, he then rounded up all the citizens and children they were protecting and had them brainwashed and sent back to Garlemald to be trained as Imperial soldiers. Scary scary, bad man. There were several Ala Mhigan refugees trying to earn money to mount a new resistance effort, but no such thing has taken shape as of Dalamud's crash down and the burning dragon fun times. The fall of the resistance is actually one of the catalysts for the remaining City-States recreating the Grand Companies and the Alliance. This is not to say that one cannot factor the resistance into back story, one just has to resolve the fact that they were pretty much all killed.

I do not wish to rain on your parade, but those conscripted into the Garlean Military (particularly those inducted from an occupied territory) are magically brainwashed. They have no will of their own. We have been given no example of an Imperial conscript breaking this conditioning, or information as to whether or not it is even possible to do so. Further, we have next to no lore out there on how the Empire would respond to the Echo. Given their response and attitudes toward the Primals, one can speculate it would be less than stellar. That which does not fit into the Garlean's religion tends to get put on the list for extermination. Mind you, I am not saying you cannot include these elements in your back story. I am just encouraging you to take these things into account and resolve them as you create it. You don't want to paint yourself into a corner when more of the story we have yet to see unfolds. For all we know the Empire has no clue that the Echo even exists, and it is possible they exterminate anyone displaying it as a heretic or some such. Just some lore food for thought.

I like this plan, and I am currently messing around with the demo stuff. I suppose my question is, what bells and whistles are we getting for the money?

I have been pleased to see interest in the experiment. Having talked to a few people I felt I needed to make a little bit of clarification. Membership in the Seven Devils organization is a bad thing. It casts a character in a particularly sinister and antagonistic role. These are some things to consider before attaching one's PC to them. They are villains, and being one makes one a villain. There is nothing wrong with that at all, and there is certainly room to make a heel to face turn. I just feel a general heads up of "by the way, these are pretty vile and remorseless people" should be made before accepting actual PCs into the mix. I'll be responding to interested parties in PM later today, and thank everyone in advance for their interest. There is no cut off for this, so if you want to lend a hand and collaborate just leave a comment below or drop me a line.

I am very into the idea of community plot, and I have an idea. So here it is. I'll start with the hook, and move to the details. (Simple note - Please don't take the hook ICly, at least not yet.) Seven Devils all around you... The Seven Devils, and organization of deadly assassins and heretical fanatics. They have a cause, and a plan. They are organized, and numerous. They are moving toward an unknown purpose, and worse, no one knows what they look like. They have to be stopped. They wish to usher in a world darkened by the shadow of Death. They wish to finish what Dalamud started... Seven Devils in your house... During the past five years they have inserted themselves and infiltrated. They have put on masks and draped themselves in skins that are not their own, to suit their cause and purpose. They could be anything. A merchant, a beggar, a commander, a soldier, a singer, a chef. Anything. They can be anyone. A lover, a friend, a brother, a sister, a contact, a partner, a stranger. Anyone. They have to be found... So. That is the hook. The line and sinker come later. They also depend on a bit of help. The idea is to have meta plot with several contributors. Those contributing would run individual plots that hook into the over arching plot. The result? A shared experience that links together across the community. If you are interested in helping to contribute, please drop me a line or place a comment below. I am hesitant to reveal too many details here, as I do not wish to ruin what surprises may be had. I am hoping this works out well, and that more things like this experiment may be implemented for the community in the future.

In 1.0 the Astalicia (Marauder Guild, Pirate Ship, also a Tavern) has an Elezen bard playing a harp on stage. She even played different songs. The Mineral Concern Tavern in Ul'dah had a dancer on stage, and several other "dancers" mixed in with the tables. I really cannot see them taking that stuff out in 2.0, but I guess we will see.

Yay for more Duskwights! Welcome to the community!
