Can it be done? Yup. Absolutely. It is stated in several Ultimania for various FF's that Atomos is the the same Atomos in every incarnation, and pretty much exists as a giant weird sentient gateway. Further, FFXIV itself has poked on to fact that "The Void, is the Void, is the Void" across the FF cosmology. Travel methodology and details are all just aspects of story in the end. Should it be done? Sure. Go for it, but examine why you are doing it and how it would come up in a realistic sense. The current event quest is a pretty good example. The Shantoto event from a while ago, also good. The main question you should always ask yourself with weirdness is "how does the weirdness serve story." Personally, I had an secret fun alt that absolutely positively was from Vana'diel. To my great suprise, portraying this did not ruin everything forever. This did all serve as part of a larger story, however. The story originally ended when I stopped playing XI, leaving the character stranded in the Crystal War Era. Apparently he saved the girl he loved when she was a little girl back in the past. Thus he had to stick around long enough to do so. After that point, everything was about getting back to the present (without erasing the OTS's existence). The being stuck in Eorzea served that story and its over all evolution and conclusion (he made it back. There was a big ole group gathering thing, IC wedding thing, and a really sappy song. All part of a bunch of friends saying "so long FFXI, you were awesome.") The devil is always in the details. Why a certain thing is being portrayed, along with how. No one really grocked to the fact that secret alt was from a different world entirely, just that he behaved strange and had weird names for things that he used on occasion. He also did not seem overly concerned with any Eorzea's problems. Each story and character is different, but as I am often fond of saying, "Real assassins don't go shouting out that they are assassins in crowded bars, only dumb or supremely overconfident assassins do that." The spirit of this rule can be applied to many things, including inter-dimensional travel. In short, concepts in and of themselves, or on their face, do not "RUIN THINGS FOREVAR!" Poor portrayal of concepts does. You do you. Anyone that is going to immediately judge and cut you off from RP their section of RP world over a concept, rather than seeing the evidence of how you handle that concept, is probably being a closed-minded jerk anyway. There are more fun people out there to interact with than people who just want to be "no fun police." Yar.

Not really a point but more of a question: Do we have a date for when Ishgard closed? I tried to look around for one because I can't remember, and the closest thing I found was on the Wiki where they declined to ally after the war with Ala Mhigo. Either way, we both have points to use. We also both make assumptions off of those points. If how large an assumption is is a point of subjectivity, then we're both on the same footing because subjectivity cam be scaled infinitely in either direction. If there's a quantifiable way of judging the size of assumptions, what would it be? Ishgard closed their doors around the same time as the fall of Ala Mhigo, though they withdrew from (or declined to participate in) the Eorzean Alliance following the Autumn War. I may be mistaken, but I do not believe there is an exact date. Given the touch stone of the Fall of Ala Mhigo it was about 20 years from the begin of ARR (15 years from the start of 1.0). Edit: I completely forgot this, but remembered after I posted. It is also probable Ishgard closed their doors after the Battle of Silver Tear Falls. Y'know because tons of Dragons and Midgardsormr. I forget if that is actually stated anywhere as definitive though.

<3 All I will say is that we could use another healer and tank! Though somehow I doubt RDM would end up as firmly in the healer/support role in XIV as it did in XI. Yoshi-P has said that he wants it to have healing and support options, but that (admitteldly) does not necessarily mean it is firmly placed in the healer/support role. Though, if FFXI was any indication...

This area of lore bits, like most areas of lore bits surrounding the elementals, strikes on a particularly frustrating note for all people diving into finding lore. Unreliable narrator. Stuff contradicts itself because it is meant to as part of the story/setting, and even the NPCs either don't know or are not revealing the entire truth of what is going on. We have to take what they say with huge helpings of salt, or make our best educated guess based on what is presented. The only primary source of lore we have is what Koji and the rest of the lore team devs reveal to us, and even they cannot reveal to us everything. This is not to say that we cannot use NPCs as sources to try and figure stuff out, it just means that when the we have a contradiction between what the devs have said and what the NPCs are saying we have to assume the NPCs are wrong in some way/shape/form. This "take with salt" situation is not limited to the subjects of the elementals, Gridania, and the Black Shroud.

In a word? Masks. Mystery was the base concept, but that was further refined into the concept of masks, both physical and metaphorical. Details came up all wrapped up in that base concept. Yssen slips from one mask to another both as a defensive mechanism, and for the sheer giddy glee of tricking people. His back story further expanded and explained the base concept. Why does he keep stuff hidden? What is he running from? Why does he feel the need to use deception keep people at a distance? Who (if anyone) does he take a mask off for, and in what measures? It all sort of fell into place, and not only influenced IC things but OOC things as well. His wiki is only what could possibly be generally known, and for that measure is absolutely inaccurate in places by design. I made the decision to keep the entire truth of Yssen to myself, only letting bits and bobs of it be released as seemed natural. I make sure that it is a super big deal to know any piece of the whole and actual truth. To memory, only one character existing knows everything. Masks masks masks. Secrets secrets secrets. As far as visual design, I picked Elezen because I played and RPed a Hume in XI and wanted to do something different. Duskwight was chosen because I did not like the short ears on the Wildwoods in 1.0. There was no ear slider thing back then. I then adapted what we knew of Duskies at the time and rolled it round with the concept. Absolutely natural to be on the defensive around most people when faced with a lot of discrimination and prejudice. Everything fit rather nicely, if I do say so myself. Yar.

True enough. This stuff is best discussed in more detail in a different thread. I'll probably make one here shortly. Still hope to have been of service with the Shrine Maiden stuffus, though. Hope to run into it and junk.

If you go with a Shinto parallel, that would include some form an ancestor worship, which I could easily see the Au Ra doing, particularly if they are wrapped up in the whole divine bloodline thing. Still most of the parallel would be speculation. Relatively well based speculation, but speculation none the less. We do not know the specifics, but it is fun to try and figure stuff out. Yar. It is also important to draw a line of distinction between elementals in the Shroud and elementals else where. Largely for the following reasons; 1. The Shroud Elementals took over, they were not always active in the Black Shroud all the time. They gathered up, enforced their will and attempted to push out both the Ixal and the Elezen. 2. The Shroud Elementals required an entire society to agree to a pact in order to live in the Shroud. To live there people are required to submit to their will. 3. Citing that pact they required a race turn on its own and destroy an entire city, igniting a blood feud in the Elezen race that extends to this very day. 4. They wrested control over an entire source of magic that was once commonplace, and dole it out only to their chosen. 5. They continuously and callously enforce a harsh set of rules on the people of Gridania, and the Conjureror's that practice there. The Shroud elementals are restrictive, oppressive, and probably not so much a the grand benevolent force that some NPCs think they are, or would have us believe they are (not that those NPCs are directly lying, they likely just don't know everything). The distinction is somewhat important because the Ninja quests where we find out more about how Doman spirituality and how Ninjutsu work do not reveal that there is any kind of string or stricture placed on the use of Ninjutsu (other than needing to be able to channel aether, and having there required training. They also have not revealed to us that they have been put under any sort of forceful stricture or restriction (save by the Garleans). Thus I think it is slightly important to make the distinction between regular elemental worship and worship and reverence of the elementals in the Shroud. The two groups of nature incarnate things do not seem to act in the same manner at all. Fun side note: Elementals absolutely can die with in the boundaries of the Hedge. There are 3 murdered "Great Ones" seen when we are introduced to Kan-E-Senna in 1.0. There is a theory that she herself killed them in order to reform the Twin Adders and become its leader, but I do not think this is actually so.

Doesn't the lore entry for the Au Ra (both Raen and Xaele) state that they worship a Duskmother and a Dawnfather? Granted, this probably only applies to the Au Ra. Also, while the Domans may worship elemental spirits and the world around them, it seems like a bit of a stretch to say they worship the big "E" Elementals. The Elementals are presently found only in the shroud, and specifically closed it off when they first invaded. The similarity to Shinto is a good route to go as far as speculation (particularly when you can draw a direct parallel with the Duskmother and Dawnfather). I just do not think that "kami" elementals would be the same as Shroud Elementals. Why would they not have plopped themselves into the Shroud with the others is sorta boggling, but that is not to say the could not be related concepts. Yar.

I think there is a little bit of a difference between godmoding and failure to compromise. Godmoding is set specifically making one's character untouchable regardless of the player's interpretation of the setting/lore. This behavior usually stems from a single player. Failure to compromise stems from a both players inability to reconcile different views of the setting. This can bee seen as a failure on the part of one player, the other, or both. Someone interpreting the setting differently from you is not godmoding, no matter what power level they (or you) might believe to be the average for most PCs. Forcing a world particular world view on others (particularly when there is no way to be right and no way to be wrong) is a slightly different issue than godmoding. You either engage in compromise to let the RP flow, or you do not. You cannot, however, point the finger of godmoding at another player when you yourself are unwilling to compromise in a given situation. Just my two cents.

Duskwight in Ishgard [Tag your spoilers if needed!]
Yssen replied to Virella's topic in RP Discussion
It is also very likely that the current Ishgardian high houses were already Elezen noble houses before the founding of Ishgard. From a technical stand point, elezen nobility would trace back to their original entrance into Eorzea from the North. This would have most if not all Elezen noble line tracing their history back before there was even a Duskwight/Wildwood split. Houses rise, houses fall, and each of them reinvents their history as the split puts Duskwight and Wildwood at each other's throats following the fall of Gelmorra. Technically, a house could not claim to have always been Duskwight, but that is probably not going to stop them from doing so. There is that, and what is behind me spoiler tag to consider. -
It is worth pointing out that there is more than one way to skin a miqo as far as this issue goes. People can be justifiably uncomfortable with portraying a character's possible racism and prejudice, but it is also equally possible to portray the effects of racism and prejudice on your own character. The world is not filled with only PCs and their actions, and it is probably easier to explore this particular topic by expanding on how NPCs treat your character, rather than expecting everyone to be okay with portraying it with their characters. Discussing personal examples of prejudice and discrimination your character has faced ICly, as well as portraying how incidents of the same have affected your character's attitudes/behavior are probably easier ways to explore this subject. Heck, probably the best way to explore most touchy subjects. Yar.

balmung Selling a Large Plot Goblet Ward 3 Plot 35
Yssen replied to Reiner Dorn's topic in Chronicled Connections
Absolutely has happened. Several people were banned for snatching up plots and selling them the last time they added more plots to the wards. Still more later when they attempted to sell plots later. This is not exactly the same as what got the banned parties caught (namely, advertising the sale in game), but I am not really seeing how this is any different. Further, we have prevented artists from advertising their prices in gil here. Mostly because it is a grey area of RMT and possibly a frowned upon practice by SE. I am not seeing where this is really all that different, nor am I sure we should be okay with this and not the other. -
balmung Selling a Large Plot Goblet Ward 3 Plot 35
Yssen replied to Reiner Dorn's topic in Chronicled Connections
I do not mean to put a complete downer on this, but SE has banned people for selling their plots in the housing wards. Not sure if it is against the ToS directly, but they have done it before. Are we sure this is something we want to let be around here? -
Eorzean Aetheists and The Believability of Such Characters
Yssen replied to Dat Oni's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I would have to say that the Garleans are probably NOT atheists. Atheists tend not to use words like "blasphemy" and "heresy." Do they not believe in The Twelve? Yes. Do they not believe in the godhood of Primals? Obviously. They do have a religion, though. Just not a religion we have many details on. Best guess would be that similar to Rome, they believe in the sanctity of the Imperial line, and perhaps by extension their government. That is just conjecture at this point, however. Still, they all talk a lot about "heresy" and "blasphemy" with when referring to Eorzeans and Primals and such. They clearly have some sort of organized dogma they adhere to. -
She uses Regen and other WHM stuff like Holy when in combat.
-
Just a side note. It is very much up for debate how gated WHM actually is. I mean, Y'shtola is a WHM. She is Sharlayan and was born and raised there, she is not even the Archon that was assigned to the Shroud. This in no way eliminates the idea that one should come up with a good story to explain stuff, but that is pretty much an across the board thing. One should always come up with good story to explain stuff. Yar.

Warrior of Light, Hydaelyn's Chosen, and Bringer of Light
Yssen replied to Melkire's topic in RP Discussion

No where at all. The implication from both 1.0 and 2.0 onward is that the beast tribes regularly summon their primals. That is what they are going after crystals for. That said, one could debate the frequency of when a primal is summoned to go into full combat rage mode, or just to temper/drown/whatever a new batch of servants. It is also debateable what power level a primal has when it is summoned. All that is required for every primal summoning is a large amount of aether, but the amount of aether and technique seems to be a determining factor. The Grand Companies are largely tied up preventing the hostile beast tribes from gathering enough crystals/aether to summon them. The fact that primals can only be dissipated and not killed is a factor. Hence the Alagans and others coming up with more permanent and strange solutions to the primal problem. I mean, look at Odin. Odin pretty much shows up when ever he damn well feels like it, it is part of his nature.

Technically every FF world is connected. It has been stated that the Hydaelyn's Void is the same as Vana'diel's Void, the same as Spira's Void, the same as Ivalice's, the same as Gaia's etc. etc. etc. This came about when SE started doing some real definition on the world's the game of the series take place in.

Even with all of Garlemald's technical advances, the first Emporer Solus zos Galvus, recently died in his seventies. Despite being a soldier and Legatus early in life, he's probably the single most well taken care of individual in Garlemald. So probably the exact same lifespan as everyone else. Average lifespan might be higher, but the likelihood of being slaughtered in their campaign for world domination doesn't help the average. Ooh, okay. Makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up for me. Simply to add to what Sounsyy said, Galrean military may have shorter life spans than non-military (beyond war fare danger) due to their exposure to Ceruleum. The stuff runs all of their magitek, and we know it has some pretty harsh negative side-effects stemming from over exposure. Think of it like mercury poisoning. Builds up over time. Yar.

its not very lore friendly at all (I don't mean that as an attack, hear me out.) In lore, Sucubus are Voidsent that are drawn to and inhabit the bodies of dead women. in my own plots Nako has dealt with Voidsent, either sealing them in a host and then destroying the host so they died with it, drawn them out into a prepared vessel to store (ala the pot from the THM quest line) etc. Its a very much grey area, dealign with voidtouched/tainted. I know that this is how Voidsent Succubi are, but what exactly is the difference between Voidtouched and Voidsent, and is there anything stating that there isn't some way for the woman/man in question to be cursed by the original Voidsent to have those properties? I'm just mostly curious =) I don't mean to derail the thread. In short. Voidsent originated in the void and were summoned or gated to Hydaelyn by ritual or what have you. Voidtouched originated on Hydaelyn and became corrupted/tainted by coming into contact with something Voidsent. It is all in where they originated from. Both are equally demon-y things. Yar.

Ah yes, thank you, libel is the correct term. I'm also not the best on law terms, outside of the creative portions. (And even that I'm still learning). It's 4am where I am, or was when I posted that. But Tumblr did say that they weren't responsible for what their users posted and that they can't really say whether something is or is not libel or slander for that matter. I can see if I can dig up the email from them, but I may have thrown it away in frustration. But as you said, Tumblr isn't known for mmm... Handling certain things appropriately. Ultimately I decided to leave it be, it's an unfortunate thing. But I really would like people to consider what they post, and that it might hurt someone. I'm not talking about like constructive criticism. I'm meaning insults and bs like this article I read about a mother and daughter collaborating on a piece and so many hateful comments toward the mother. Yeah we can ignore it, I usually do but I do wonder if things have gotten to be... Too much in some ways. Anyway I'm rambling and getting off topic so I do apologize. ^^; I'll leave things at this. Lots of people/entities take whacky silly stances on matters like this because they figure "no on will ever bother." For the most part they are right, until someone does. Then sit back and watch the nutbar fun happen. It is a mistake not usually repeated. ;p
