  1. Awesome. I'll do what I can to be on after work today and see if I can get in touch!
  2. My character Wemrys Quintos was involved with the bloodsands about 12 to 13 years ago when he was about 15 or 16 years old and was there for quite some time making a name for himself as 'The Lominsian' (since the Eorzean Alliance was not a thing back then and there were tensions between the city-states fueled by a lot of aimless pride). These days he's a sellsword going by the moniker 'Quintos the Storm'. If your character would have been around the bloodsands back then I'd be glad to set up some kind of RP!
  3. Considering the Warring Triad are powering Azys Lla I'm sure the Triad are going to be an MSQ thing rather than a side-plot (you can see large cables coming out of the bases of the "statues" if you go close to them, which implies that the statues are actually the captured, full-sized forms of the Triad). Likely we won't see them coming into play for some time.
  4. Y'shtola is a Conjurer not a White Mage so I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. The forbidden magicks she uses doesn't seem to have anything to do with conjury/the succor at all, rather it's heavily implied it was magick created and forbidden by the Sharlyans. Anyone can use it but the long cast time and devastating effects to both user and opponent show it's something well beyond anything we've been able to cast in any class so far. If someone were using forbidden magicks ICly I would expect it to be a single spell they discovered with devastating consequences for using it and maybe a detailed plot behind it. I'd be a bit worried if someone were flinging around forbidden magicks like common cantrips. (Also apologies for doublepost)
  5. It seems to me that through various points made in this thread that while soulstones/crystals are a repository of ancient power, they're not so much there to give you the power itself to use the abilities. Rather they act as an aetheric conduit or focus (much like how one needs a focus to do conjury/thaumaturgy/etc) to control or at least focus the power you've come upon into a usable form. The Paladin soulstone seems to draw out holy power within you, Dark Knight focuses your inner darkness into power you can channel through emotion, Warrior gives you power to focus your Inner Beast into a berserker form, White Mage seems to give you enough focus to use Succor, Dragoon allows you to control the blood of the dragon... The caveat that comes with all this new focused power is that you must learn to control it yourself, the soul crystal cannot do it for you, it's merely there so you have the ability to access this power. Fail and any number of bad juju will happen to you depending on what power you're drawing on.
  6. I will relent in the fact that the DRK questline mentions explicitly that there are certain abilities that Sidurgu teaches you and then others that you learn from your soulstone in particular moments where the power of the stone was triggered. I think you may have a point in this sense that the soulstone is a repository of lost arts in some cases, but in others you can learn things from other users.
  7. The Warrior 50-60 questline and a lot of the "you gained a new ability" flavour text implicitly states that the Soulstone is what contains a number of techniques/powers you use and you unlock it via your experiences. The Warrior questline for 50-60 involves unlocking these powers by going out and doing various things or getting into battles with the sideplot being how to tame the Inner Beast. I'm pretty sure since these abilities were completely lost to time and even though you read about them (which is also part of the questline) you couldn't just simply learn to use them that it is pretty much is flatly stating that you need to make the soulstone "remember" through your own experience.
  8. I tend to treat soulstones kinda like how the Zodiac Stones are in Final Fantasy Tactics (minus the whole transforming into eldritch abominations thing...). The opening attract screen of FFT vaguely describes that the zodiac stones in that game are stones that have the memories and power of past heroes (and villains) "etched" into them. As a result, anyone who forms a pact with a stone basically could draw on its power for good or for evil. The wrong person using a stone would draw out its raw power triggering a transformation in those people externally into the form of the Lucavi (see: Wiegraf turning into Velius/Belias). On the other hand a person with strong enough good intentions could draw out the good side of the stones, such as when Rafa's brother Malak was nearly killed and the stone saved him at Rafa's plea to save her brother. This may seem like a far cry from soulstones in FFXIV but it works on the same principles in some of the stories though it's more of a case of the soulstones/powers of the soulstones overwhelming NPCs rather than NPCs being inherently evil in some cases. The whole idea of White Magic being abused in the 5th Astral Era and the resulting Umbral era is a good example of the power being used for wrong and the Warrior questline and trying to control the Inner Beast is a good example of the power overwhelming a user. The instruction/memories on using the power is there, but the effects on a person can depend on how they decide to use it.
  9. It should be mentioned that Castrum Miridanum's reclaiming was done so easily because it's connected via an advanced rail system and the Phantom Train to Castrum Centri in Mor Dhona. It would have been a simple matter for them to cart over men and start rebuilding.
  10. Wemrys scanned over the flier for a few moments and knew almost immediately this was something suspicious. No authority claiming ownership of the bill so nobody to directly contact, a drop off in the middle of nowhere, an exorbitant payoff for the person who did the job and looked the other way. Some fool's way of getting someone out of the way by hindering them at the least, snuffing them out at the worst. Still...he had to admit ten million gil was hard to ignore. Was what happened to Arala Makeo of any concern to him in the long run regardless of whether they really were a Garlean spy? The Storm chuckled to himself, "O' course it be." The words could have easily been taken as a man deciding the reward was worth it. A face and a name with no last sightings or movement patterns weren't much...but he'd gone on much less before. Wemrys adjusted the greataxe slung across his back, the weapon rattling against the armour he wore as he started to walk again. He didn't doubt he may not even stand a chance of finding the woman to sort this out, but it was worth a shot.
  11. Just a reminder for all of you: Hulu is going to be simulcasting MS Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans starting today! The first episode is already up for viewing! For those without Hulu, it'll be available on Daisuke and Crunchyroll starting next week! Iron-Blooded Orphans is a standalone series not taking place in any established timeline so it doesn't require any previous knowledge of the Gundam series, use it to get your friends into Gundam! As a bonus, Hulu will also have the entire Reconguista in G series up for viewing starting today as well courtesy of Daisuke. While not a popular series, it's at least there to watch!
  12. That would be SD Gundam that you're referring to. It was on Toonami for a season or two and that was it but it was pretty popular to a point that it got several animated spinoffs and 2 major manga spinoffs, Musha Gundam and Knight Gundam.
  13. Oh look it's this joke again. The "Dark" in Dark Knight actually refers to the fact that they're a knight without a banner. They pledge allegiance to no one essentially. It's an old medieval term and dark knights were indeed real things in the past (minus flashy magical emotion powers). In terms of lore to extrapolate on S'imba's post...the very first Dark Knight was actually just a regular Knight under one house or another and saw a member of the clergy doing something despicable to another person and getting away with it (it's intentionally vague). The Knight attacked the clergyman and was eventually put to trial by combat for it. While the Knight won, he displayed a new magic that was coming from the core of his emotions. The Inquisitors saw this as a demonic thing but could not legally charge him for the crime he was tried for...instead he was stripped of his title and lands and dubbed a "dark" knight or a knight with no banner. Rather than be disgraced, the dark knight embraced his new title and continued to mete out his own form of justice. His abilities were developed and passed on over time to allow his disciples and descendants to use those powers to protect the weak from the oppressive without fear of retribution (of course there IS retribution if they get caught but you know...people tend to leave dark knights alone). The Dark Knights don't know much about the source of their own power but they know a few things such as when they touch their soul stone a voice calls out to them and that voice is the one that shall guide them. Some even speculate the voice is someone they are meant to find in the future. The power of the Abyss can overtake a person easily so it's no simple task becoming a Dark Knight. Fall too far and you can be destroyed by your own inner darkness. As for their abilities...the "dark" monikers are just for flavour. The abilities assume you can use your injuries to give you strength by building your anger. You can replenish your own aether by stealing the enemy's own (resulting in health or mana regeneration in game mechanics) or even use the darkness to drive an opponent mad (one of their DoTs gives a debuff which says so in the mouse-over description). They're very plainly like Sith from Star Wars which are more menacing and cunning than anything else despite mocking jokes by some about the class' practitioners listening to Linkin Park and being emo the like.
  14. At least it's not Rebuild of Evangelion. In November it'll be three years since the third movie came out with an average of 2.5 years between releases.
  15. Have you seen MS Gundam The Origin: Blue-Eyed Casval? It uses the same art style to tell (as the name states) the origin story of everyone's favorite villain, Char Aznable. They're doing it as a series of OVAs to tell the background behind the original MS Gundam series and even retell some of the events from it, all in the same quality as Unicorn. Also there's this weekly anime series coming out on October 4th as well (Iron-Blooded Orphans) done by Tatsuyuki Nagai: http://g-tekketsu.com/index.html
  16. Love me some Gundam. Have watched everything and an partial to Stardust Memory, Turn-A, Unicorn, and F91. Have read Crossbone as well and I really wish they'd adapt it into an anime series. Iron-Blooded Orphans looks like it might end up being fantastic as well, I can't wait for the Gundam Barbatos model kit to come out! As for gunpla I currently own I've got metallic MGs of Nu Gundam and my personal favorite...Sinanju from Unicorn. It's been a while since I built one but I kinda wanna get back into it.
  17. Question: Because of the location will this be ICly in the Churning Mists or will we be ICly in another location while using the locale for visual purposes? I ask due to the veracity of people even being able to get there since canonically the place is dragon territory. I also ask because OOCly that place is FATE party heaven right now so overcrowding and chat spam might become an issue.
  18. Working on getting a team together with some folks but I'd definitely like to participate in this as a competitor.
  19. This. The first thing I did after finishing the story was look around for NPCs with unique reactions and the PLD questgiver stood out with that information. As far as RP is concerned the Sultana is ill, Raubahn is a murderer, and the Monetarists are in control.
  20. Oh hey, I know you <_< I did forget to add a few things while we chatted last night but it's good to see a lot of them answered here. For instance...FCs are generally optional as the community is really good and Linkshells (essentially private chat channels) exist for locating RP as well. As for gear, yep it's mostly leveling up but there was a point made earlier that begs to be repeated...gear drops from dungeons are aesthetically GREAT for this game. While a lot of them are best for the level they drop at stat-wise, they really are some of the best looking gearsets in the game. Just be prepared to do dungeon grinding if you like a specific set since they're drops and not token-based like in GW2. Other than that welcome welcome and have fun ^^
  21. Where do I even begin? I mean I bought this thing because...well, I guess I’m self-conscious? Damned Silvernail and her taunting like I’m illiterate or something. Just because I lug an axe around and do the whole axe-for-hire thing doesn’t make me uncivilized. I’m plenty civilized! You know, the sort of civilized who throws his anger at being called uncivilized onto a page in a book that can’t resp-- Alright let’s start over, aye? Silvernail...what do I have to say about her? Other than she’s lucky I saved her arse. Mayhap I shouldn’t be so condescending of that though. She’s...ambitious. Not so much in a hurry to accomplish her goals and it’s striking that she seems to elect to not put anyone in peril for her sake. It was hard to tell if the reason she almost didn’t accept my offer to protect her was because she hated me or because she didn’t want to pull someone else in. I like to think it was the latter. She kind of hinted at something that makes her want this life, she said she needed to do it.That really spoke to me considering how I feel about myself and everything I’ve failed to do. My friends...I could have helped them and I went into this whole sellswording thing hoping to take jobs they didn’t necessarily give adventurers. Thinking that maybe I’d do things that, while they were less personable, would make a bigger difference. Fact is it turned into just turning a profit. I fell into that trap, getting more and more bitter and just taking whatever job came to me no matter if it was innocent or downright unspeakable. I think I lost my way somewhere along the line. Now comes along this pretty little thing and has me rethinking the whole thing. It makes me wonder...what did I really get into this for? To make a difference? Or was it some sort of revenge I wanted for my friends. How does one exact vengeance when he doesn’t know the true face of the ones who wronged him? It makes my efforts look almost petty when I think about it. Silvernail on the other hand knows what she wants...where she’s going, what she wants to be done, what HAS to be done. She’s brash and reckless but it’s all for the cause she seems to be going for for whatever reason it may be. I haven’t thought to push the issue. Perhaps that was what drove me to enjoy a drink with her. To enjoy a night with her. Mayhaps I took it a little too far, but...I don’t regret it. And not for the reasons you think...because obviously you’re judging me you formerly blank, little page in this tome. I don’t regret it because well it’s not often one gets to share a night with someone of similar...no no that’s stupid because she’s grabbed my attention. I think that’s a very nice way of putting it. I found her qualities and her steadfast nature to actually be rather attractive. She was something like a displaced noble in the way she acted, but much less snobbish about it. Not to mention she’s rather...easy on the eyes what with that lovely figure and...A poet might say she’s like a rose, beautiful to observe but not without her sharp bits of personality. Seeing as I’m no poet I’ll just go with she was all around a treat to the senses. Ah Wemrys, you’re gonna get stuck on a lass talking like that though. Or...writing. Whatever. She’s your employer now and you get to work to protect her no matter what mess she gets herself in. Better to be cautious about it...right? I mean...yeah. That’s what I mean. Keep her safe because she pays you you want to see her away from harm. That’s what matters more. Maybe that is the better road to travel to make a difference. I suppose I’ll find out soon enough. We're heading out for La Noscea in the morning. Gods know what she wants there but it should be nice to see home again. Maybe if I'm lucky I won't have to fend off wolves and crabs and mandragoras and pirates. Not that I wouldn't do it to protect her, but an man needs some kinda hope that things go right, aye? Maybe she just wants to hit Costa del Sol. There'd be an idea...just sitting on a beach with her and I should probably stop writing before I daydream myself into a stupor. 'Til next time. Wait do I need to put that? I mean who's reading this but me? Why am I writing th--
  22. Wemrys Quintos(that's me!): Axe wielder, , and begrudging leader. He claims to be in it for the money, but he has more noble goals at stake. Blank (Final Fantasy IX): While not a main character in his own game (but still temporarily playable!), Blank would get his time to shine here. As the party His laid back attitude and constant references to being a self-styled ladies man would grind on Wemrys' nerves. Countering that his reliability and brotherly personality would tie the party together in even the toughest of times. Ashton Anchors (Star Ocean: The Second Story): Fulfilling a second melee DPS role as something of a combination of and by dishing out damage with dual shortswords/knives but also being possessed by a pair of humorous dragons attached to his back who can unleash breath attacks. A very nervous and superstitious character, he would be the conscience of the group. Preventing Wemrys from going too far in his warrior states and keeping the others in the group considering their actions more carefully. Cheria Barnes (Tales of Graces): Healer of the party fulfilling the role. Mother hen of the group, she would be at odds with Blank quite often and would get frustrated easily with Wemrys' gruff attitude. She would be very protective of Ashton, seeing him as the nervous little brother sort. Agrias Oaks (Final Fantasy Tactics): The of the party. She would likely join the party as the last member and would stand out as the most noble of the group. She would likely become a psuedo-leader of the group for a time since nobody else was stepping up. Her commanding attitude would likely take the rest of the group by surprise and bring them in line long enough for Wemrys to eventually assume command when the time came.
  23. So chances are if you're an FF fan you've heard of Distant Worlds. If not it's a concert tour that started back in 2007 consisting of a philharmonic orchestra and choir conducted by Grammy-winner Arnie Roth which contains music composed by Nobuo Uematsu for the Final Fantasy series. Uematsu himself is present for nearly every concert and is a keyboard soloist for the orchestra. Their repertoire list contains a large amount of favorites from all entries in the main series, including those containing vocals such as "Melodies of Life" (IX), "Suteki da Ne" (X), and "Answers" (XIV) to name a few, performed by Susan Calloway. Now that my introduction is out of the way...I'm going to spaz out because the concert series is now returning to Northeastern U.S., specifically to the New Jersey Performing Arts Center on January 31st for TWO concerts on the same day! I've already attained tickets for the 8 pm show and wanted to see/fanboy with whoever may be going/considering going to this event. I'm horribly excited since they recently posted the setlist highlights for each concert and they're going to be premiering two new FFIX songs at the 8 pm show! Okay, okay calm down Spec...so who's looking into this or thinking of going out of curiosity?
  24. Hello there! Experienced RPer here but pretty brand new to the FFXIV RP scene. I've been lurking for about a week or so on the forum and decided to make a post at least introducing myself. Still in the midst of updating my profile and such so I figured making a post first would get me started nicely. First of all, I play Wemrys Quintos. I don't expect anyone to recognize that name unless I've gotten to enjoy a dungeon with you since I've been entertaining myself with PvE for months. Wemrys is a sellsword by trade, Warrior by profession and is currently under the employ of my RP partner Llinos (hopefully I can get her to prod at making a post as well). She and I come as something of a matched pair as we've been RPing through multiple games for the better part of a year so it's likely that if you see Wemrys milling about, she's probably not too far behind. I have a rather extensive backstory going into Wemrys involving trial by combat, adventuring, war, and a bandanna(!) that I can't wait to get to explore in some depth. As for myself, I have a varied background in RP. I started in the scene about 8 years ago while I was in college. A friend convinced me to try playing some tabletop RPGs with his group including Warhammer 40K: Dark Heresy, Call of Cthulu, Ebberon, Dark Sun, Paranoia, etc. Not long after that I was coaxed into attending a steampunk LARP in Massachusetts. Once I was forced to move back to New York I lost access to all those RP opportunities and decided to pick up MMOs to try RP in that and have been hooked ever since. I have experience previously with both Star Wars: The Old Republic and Guild Wars 2, and ever since FFXIV:ARR launched I've wanted to try RP in it. I convinced my partner to sub and we've been hooked ever since. I'm a huge Final Fantasy fan and have played every main game in the series at least once with my favorite installments being IV and IX. I'm also a rabid Final Fantasy Tactics fanboy and it is my absolute favorite game to carry the FF title. In fact my versions of Wemrys from other games carry a lot of inspiration from Delita Hyral and Ramza Beoulve. The fact that Wemrys in FF is a sellsword almost makes me wish Dark Knight were in the game so I could have him almost be like Gaffgarion but alas...using Bloodbath in place of Night Sword/Shadowblade will have to suffice. Anyways! I'm blabbering. I'm glad to be here and hope to meet some/most/all of you fine people soon!
