1. Kinda saw that coming. Nexus is only i115, while Dreadwyrm is i135. So unless you make a 20 Item Level jump between Nexus and Zodiac, there had to be at least one more step. We likely won't get to complete our Zodiacs until 2.55 at the earliest. So... Nexus = i115 ????? = i125(?) Zodiac = i135 Considering what we've had to go through thus far, I can only weep internally as to what I'm going to have to deal with once I get done with collecting "glow" (which I'll only be starting next week!). I motion that the i125 version be tentatively just called "Acceptance." Because I think wearied acceptance is where I'm at with my Zodiac weapon.
2. "What's in a name? That which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet." - Juliet, Romeo and Juliet, Act II Scene II With all the lore inherent to the names the various races of Eorzea, I find myself looking at people's names more and more as I wander around Balmung. Nunhs and Tias, daughers and sons of parents identified within their surname. And, even while I can't decipher Sea Wolf names through mere eyeballing, seeing someone with one oft makes me want to go see what it's supposed to mean. Of course, there's the names that are more free-form and sometimes even silly - Provoke Me, the numerous Batmans, I've even joked about making a male Keeper at some point named Whyl'li Mi'qote who forever chases Chocobos (still thinking it!) - but especially on a server like Balmung, names have reason. Have history. I thought a discussion on that would be interesting. I'm not so brash as to suggest such a thing without providing a little about my own characters, so I'll open with that. Chachanji's name makes a little more sense when you compare it to his brother - the one I play on an non-RP server - Gogonji. I loved the musical approach to Lalafell naming schemes and thought to myself how I wanted to play with that. I was flitting through a random name generator and anxiously waiting the day that Name Changes became readily available, and came across "Gogomatsu" or something similar as a surname result. Being the massive Final Fantasy nerd I am, I immediately thought of Gogo - the enemy in FFV and secret character of FFVI. The mimic and master of forms, who can do whatever anyone else can. How fitting for a character in a game where you literally can be everything - tank, healer, craftsman, gatherer. My little guy would be named Gogo-something Somethingelse-something. As I was wont to do, I had already started making up the little guy's back-story in my mind - even though it was not an RP server and the idea hadn't even crossed my mind to look for one. I was already borrowing ideas from the older Final Fantasies with Gogo, so I started musing on what would be a good name for a master of everything. Master of arms and crafts. The latter got me thinking, thinking of a pretty famous armor set in the games - Genji armor. With just that idea, a flood of back-story clarification came to mind. A Lalafell from the Far East, son to a smith who sought to make a name for himself and his wares. A conflict of ideals that lead to the boy venturing out into the world to carve his own path. And so, Gogonji Gegenji's identity was sealed, at least in spirit until I got his name officially changed. And when I decided to come to Balmung, I figured using my already established "character" as a springboard would be a great idea. I mulled over all sorts of -njis before noting that "Go-Go" was a style of dance, which oddly fit with the musical naming conventions of the Lalafell. So I started thinking musically and finally thought of a Cha-Cha to counterpoint the Go-Go. Chachanji Gegenji. Almost everything about Chachanji's family and their names was spurred from that simple renaming of my non-RP character to Gogonji to fit with the naming conventions I stumbled across on the official forums. Crazy, huh?
3. Pffff. Koporo x Chachanji is true grump-love. Though, there's something to be said for Chachan x Bunnyhat.
4. Yeah, I still need to do some reading up on proper rotations and the cross-class skills to use for normal crafting. Doing the higher level Ixali dailies hammered in quite clearly that I had no idea what I was doing. I got frustrated enough with the Ixali dailies that limited my CP. I can't imagine trying to fight the RNG for the star-crafting.
5. That... might be a way for me to go as well. When I started with the Free Trial - my goal was to get as many classes to 20 (the trial cap) as possible in the two week period. Crafting/Gathering classes were included, and with those I think I had all of those hit the mark save for the two smithing classes. And Fishing, for obvious reasons.
6. You can repair level 50 gear when reaching the appropriate craft to 40. Crafting's a nightmare in this game, just go for repairs. Not having all 50s on my main will most likely bug the heck out of me if I don't do it, though. Plus side, I plan to get most of the levels just doing Ixali dailies. It's how I got my ALC on him as high as it is (40-something), and I can get gil and oak-knots or whatever out of 'em, too. I've heard nothing but horror stories about the star-levels, though, and as such I feel pretty good about not pushing that particular envelope any.
7. Doing so is considered a lalafelony.
8. The attendant, already wide-awake now thanks to the recent happenings, jerked a little in alarm at Steel Wolf's movement. What came at his head, though, was not fist nor blade but coin. His delayed reflexes allowed him to catch one of the coins post-collision, but the other slipped through his fingers and rolled out onto the street. A foot hid it from view for a second and then it was gone, either fallen through the cracks in the stone or - more likely here in Ul'dah - filched by a passerby with a sharp eye. "Oh, uh. Yes'm," the attendant managed as the Roegadyn walked away. He eyed the one coin he had managed to save and gave it a quick bite to ensure its authenticity before squirreling it into a belt pouch. It certainly wasn't enough to buy his silence, but he wasn't about to go bragging about how a tower of a woman scared the everliving daylights out of him in pursuit of a purple piglet he had somehow missed slipping onto his elevator car. Thus it just as Steel Wolf had begin with - simple recompense for what he had just gone through. He turned his attentions back to the denizens of the car and attempted to return to a semblance of normality with a simple: "Wellhead Lift, headin' down to the Royal Prominade, then the Airship Landing." Whatever opinions the other participants in this strange event had - those people still in the elevator car - were, perhaps wisely, held until they had a closed gate and possible a several vertical yalms between them and the axe-wielding woman. As for the Midlander in the subligar, he quickly let go of his jerkin's hem and folded his arms over his chest with a fluster. Perhaps he felt a bit emasculated by the ordeal and thus was trying to mask that with manly indifference in front of this group of strangers. Most of them either didn't notice or didn't quite care, especially not the attendant as he turned to address the passing crowds. "Please board now or wait until the next car. Thank you." Gran pawed sadly towards the elevator doors at is slid shut, the truth to the grand mystery slipping through his little clawed fingertips. The Roegadyn's grip was more firm this time, as to prevent another wild flight of fancy on the baby behemoth's part, so he made do with a pathetic little needy whine. He didn't get to bemoan his loss for long, however, for he was quickly inundated with a series of babbling noises from a new face. Even if his knowledge of the common tongue wasn't next to nonexistent, the speed at which Miko had presented her questions still would have confused him. So, when she stuck out her hand to him in greeting, he just gave it a curious, snortling sniff.
9. But... but... guys, it's cool. The produce are grown in Georgia. (I'm also imagining the movie ticket being in the salad. Like, you stab at it with your fork and - surprise! - mutilated Interstellar pass soaked in ranch dressing!)
10. I... get the odd feeling that once I start leveling my crafting classes, I'm just gonna stop at 50.
11. The simple haiku, Grabs all with flights of fancy. Endlessly flowing. ~*~ A rush of feathers. So transcendent and fleeting A chocobo's dance. ~*~ Knowledge crystallized, Frozen in a cage of stone, Melded to your blade. ~*~ Trying way too hard, To comply with the rhythm. All work and no play. ~*~ A wee behemoth? Or something much more than that? Looks like a piglet.
12. Was it always supposed to take this long? Gran snuffled around curiously, wondering when the excitement was supposed to happen. There was a lot of shouting and stuttering and panicking, which got him a bit nervous, but it seemed to be directed at something outside the elevator rather than at him. Thus, while a bit worrisome, it wasn't much of a concern. The attendant, on the other hand, now that he was being faced with a breathless woman rather than a juggernaut of rage, had his fear quickly change into irritation and anger. Not only had this Roe wench - a term he only barely kept internally lest she have enough energy reserves to heft that axe back up and lop his bleeding head off - scared the living daylights out of him, but had also held up his work for... what? A behemoth? "You a little sun-touched there, lady?" he queried, his tone both venomous and yet restrained, since he was still talking to a seven-fulm Roegadyn - out of breath or not. "You're looking for a behemoth? In Ul'dah? I mean, there's a lot of stuff for sale here, but I'm pretty sure there's no big beastie like that around here." Steel Wolf had dropped to all fours by this point, garnering quite the number of odd looks from the denizens of the elevator car. Many of them were starting to second-guess their catching of the doors, even if they had done it almost entirely on instinct. One of the Midlanders, touting a nice set of subligar, unconsciously tried to pull down the hem of his jerkin to keep the crazy lady from sneaking a peek. "Definitely sun-touched," the attendant muttered quietly to himself before continuing. "Look, lady, if magically some behemoth managed to sneak itself aboard this elevator car, I'm pretty sure I would've noticed." It was around that point that little Gran moved to the front of the car to greet his new friend, snuffling at her face with his little snout. Considering his gaze was down in that direction, it would've been pretty hard for the gentleman - if he could even be called that - manning the machine to not notice the purple porker. Same for those folks in the car. "Oh. Uh. Hey. Well whaddaya know," the attendant murmured dumbly. "Little behemoth."
13. I don't know if it's just me, Gegenji, but the image isn't showing. (It's Finn the Human from Adventure Time.)
14. I've always been interested in the Vices and Virtues myself from a literary standpoint. So, by extension, I must take a crack at this! Lust vs Chasity Oddly enough, I think I'd have to give Chachan about a 3 or even a 2 here. Not a sexual lust, but his burning desire to be a hero. He wants it, he wants it bad, and has often gotten upset at people who question his methods on approaching it. It's only his own desire to actually do honest good that helps steer him in the proper "heroic" direction. Gluttony vs Temperance I'd say about a 4 or possibly 5 here. Chachan is a glutton for excitement, loves to run around, and tends to not think things through beforehand. Yet, while he's spontaneous and energetic, he does his best to be mindful of others and is all about justice and the needs of others. He's not too far one way over the other, so it becomes a matter if trying to figure which one has the edge over the other. Greed vs Charity Now we're getting into Chachan's virtues - 8 or 9. Chachan honestly wants to help people, spending most of his day running menial errands for the people of Ul'dah. After Roen showed him the people starving outside the walls, he's begun buying extra jerky and such to hand out there when he goes on his afternoon runs with Gran. What Chachan wants for himself is more intangible than tangible, so it's hard to call him greedy; yet he still has his fair share of "wannas." Sloth vs Diligence If there's one constant about Chachan, it's his never-say-die spirit. Really, the only thing that keeps me from giving him a full ten here is the mentions of "careful nature" and "budgeting one's time," neither of which the little Lalafell really does. As such, I put him on about the same range as the last one: 8 or 9. Wrath vs Patience Considering what I've been saying about Chachan, it might be odd to be able to describe him as "patient." However, on this scale - with patience to mean peaceful resolution and forgiveness - the little ball of energy is pretty much on the more virtuous side. However, he does dream of beating up dragons and badguys and such, so there's still some Wrath in there I'm sure. 7 or 8. Envy vs Kindness 10. This is literally what Chachan is about. He wants to help people, he does it without expecting anything in return beyond it being "the heroic thing to do." He is almost always unwaveringly positive (though not 100%, he still has his sadder moments, as one is wont to do), and there seems to be a theme going on in his RPs of him reminding other characters of their younger, happier days. Pride vs Humility This one was a toughie. While Chachan defers to others' wisdom and knowledge, sticks to his promises, and tries to confront his fears, there's also the overlying theme that he believe he will be a hero. It's both a goal and a certainty at the same time in his little mind. His fears, it should be noted, are often confronted because he feels that it's not how a hero should be and he should obviously be above them. It makes placing him on this range difficult, and I'm left with a nebulous (and extended) range of 3 to 5. Does your character lean more towards the Sins or the Virtues? Just looking at the numbers, I'd have to say Virtues. Only one Sin is actually relatively predominant, while the rest are either middling or barely there at all. Considering he's trying to be a hero, I think that's a good thing. Which Sin does your character most emulate? It seems odd to say it, considering the common definition of the term and his young age, but it would most likely have to be Lust. Which Virtue does your character most emulate? Kindness, hands down. Chachan's all about the halpan. Which of these Sins or Virtues do you and/or your character believe they need to work on the most? Just looking at the answers I've put, Chachan definitely needs to work on his pride and his "wannas." Whether that's just because he's a spoiled youngster, or something more deeply inherent in him is yet to be seen, though. He's going to have to grow up sometime, whether he wants to or not.
15. I keep coming across them when I Return, too. What's with the army of BLMs, anyway? Is there a Black Waltz around somewhere leading them? Do... do I have to watch out for Queen Brahne?
16. Took some nice background shots while leveling Rogue. And, because I've been showing it to everyone: bunnyhat.
17. WE. ARE NOT. TAKING. THE WIZARD.
18. You know not what you've unleashed. 6QGrTG5U7TM ai6RbzC-zFM VTO5yiN1b-I
19. Can Chachan be a tree? He'd make a good tree. ... If he could sit still long enough for it. (There's a drawing in there somewhere of Chachan dressed up like he's in some elementary school play shouting "IMMA TREE!" but I lack the artistic skills to do so.) I'd actually be quite interesting in seeing how it plays out. You have a lot of potential for drama and interaction just with the prep-work and practice for the play itself. I've naught but one high school Drama class to back me, but my sources (movies and the internets) say that there's lots of tensions and clashes involved with putting on a play. So even before considering the play itself, you might have quite a few interesting events. After that you have the play itself, and then the after-party. All sorts of potential there too. And, even if you discount all that - going by the recent Nophica event in Gridania - just having an event around telling a story and acting it out could be fun to watch. ... Just be mindful of hecklers.
20. Saw this and thought to give it a try. I thought of a LOT of bubbly songs that might fit Chachan, but a lot of them (surprisingly enough!) were about little girls or were just stream-of-consciousness nonsense that really didn't fit him. Ultimately, I went back to some real classic anime and I've more or less settled on one of these two. Wish I could find translated lyrics for the second, but that's proven quite difficult. fM8haxyNwfk Overflowing from my pockets Are dreams like diamonds that I hold tight I'm only feeling; I want to be involved I know that somewhere it's different but I make a loose fashion statement Putting a taboo on freedom is a mistake Even if fun things get washed down When important things are in sight Stand up and be yourself! Seize your dreams Stand up! Attain chance from somewhere else and escape death A few dignified tears can come afterwards. The extra glitter returns.Don't give up your feelings. Some day a miracle will come. Taking on a chance I want to fly out of Someone's clothes, someone's makeup I want my own color to show my nature but Change is lost My spirit is inside a closet, damn it The limit of my spirit has become meek My power to say I love a person Surely it will be revived When it's not decorated, frequently glitter it with a smiling face. I can approach that sort of laughing person. Wake up and be your smile! That way your sleep will be lovely Wake up! My self confidence increases Wake up! You are my rival but you changed me yesterday If we're strong occasionally we can change We jump the hurdle every day I can stand firm on the verge of death and that is the treasure of reality. Looking for the dream uINCfN7cEIg (And yes, it's still about a girl, but it's Amelia from Slayers! I think it still fits. )
21. I've never had much issue with what others wear. Clothes are just clothes, in my opinion. To clarify, I feel that they only have importance insomuch as one gives it to them or wants out of them. Their appearance often helps to define a character at times, but in and of themselves usually should not be used as the definition of the character. As such, the "origin" of the piece matters little except in places where there's blatant history involved (either blatantly through lore, or as a talking piece for the character themselves). The Dragoon armor, for example, falls into that category because it's both a.) quite obvious-looking in full and b.) has quite the lore behind it. Even then, though, it could still be explained away as being a custom replica piece (which, as Seriphyn said, some pieces actually are), or even just a fondness for the style if only a couple pieces (ex. greaves or gloves) are used. There could even be other, easily explained reasons for the look - a Garlean might say their i120 gear is from their homeland rather an Ironworks-forged, for example, and I wouldn't raise an eyebrow. Really, I just don't think that the "real" source matters that much as long as the player can put together a feasible reason if pressed on it. And, more often than not, I don't find myself even raising those sorts of questions as long as the character looks nice. "Lookin' purdy" trumps a lot of things for me, I guess. And don't forget - even if it might be a bit garish or flashy, the realm of Final Fantasy (and fashion in general) is not unfamiliar to some pretty out there fashion statements! ... I really hope that wasn't too rambly and circle-talk-ish.
22. Well, I hope all three of you have a good time on Balmung!
23. I love it when someone says something lighthearted in a roulette, turning a mechanical run into an experience with jokes and talk and interaction between players beyond healing and being healed. I love it when people actively try to help get me into RPs, giving me an in because I'm too nervous to initiate myself. I love it when people tell me they had fun RPing with Chachan, or that something I said or did helped brighten their day. I loved it when I finally unlocked Ninja for Chachan. Now I can run around the Quicksand making airplane noises like the dork that he is, occasionally stopping to resummon my bunnyhat. I also love that the Friends of Momodi LS puts up with my often nonstop onslaught of terrible puns.
