  1. Scenario and Setting: Central Thanalan, the Sultantree. 4-player Trial. Heroing Aid Description: Little Chachan is seeking to hone the skills he learned from Ser Warren Castille and become better at "swording." Confront the little Lalafell and his baby behemoth and see just how far he's come! The fight would consist of a couple phases that change based on his health. At regular intervals (66% and 33%) he'll disengage, become untargetable while he psyches himself up for the next round - healing a little bit in the process (marked as [second Wind] and [Third Wind], respectively) - and move on to the next phase. As the fight progresses, his attacks become faster and more dangerous, resulting in a battle of increasing intensity. Quotes: "W-well... h-here I come! Eyaaah!" (Introductory Line) "Okay... okay... I got this... I can do this..." (66% Health Marker) "Shield up, eyes open... Eeled up, shies open..." (33% Health Marker) "Ah! Ah! Okay, okay! I yield! I yield!" (1% Marker, End of Fight Line) Attacks: [Rabbit Riposte] - The standard "harder-hitting" move that is weaved into his auto-attack. The eyes on his rabbit helmet flash and he disappears to attack his current aggro target from the side for increased damage. He will also do this on change of aggro targets, teleporting to his new opponent's position to strike them. After he hits 33%, the damage from this attack increases greatly. [Little Hero Charge] - Like Ifrit's charge attack, Chachan rushes across the battlefield in a straight line, swinging wildly with his sword and damaging anyone in his path. Past the 66% flag trigger, the windup time is reduced a little and he charges twice before re-engaging with his current aggro target. After the 33% trigger, the windup time is greatly reduced, the cooldown time is reduced, and he charges three times. [Tricksy Toss] - At random times during the fight, he'll wind up and get ready to throw his shield. This shield throw will hit the last non-pet character to have cast a healing spell, stunning them for 8 seconds. As the phases progress, he will cast it more frequently and with less windup time. [Gran Slam] - Throughout this fight, Chachan's baby behemoth will be running around the battlefield, untargetable and undamageable. His charges are easily denounced by looking in a direction, pawing at the ground, and then charging forward. Anyone struck by the running porker will be stunned for 3 seconds. [Gran-Standing] - At 33%, Gran will occasionally cease his charging and rapidly position himself between Chachan and his current aggro target. During this period, Chachan becomes untargetable and Gran does, with all targeting, charging abilities, and auto-attacks redirected to the baby behemoth. Should he be hit, Gran will immediately and instantly counterattack, dealing scaling damage based on the power of the attack and placing an Esuna-able bleed effect on the target. Ideas for Harder Versions: * Rabbit Riposte also Pacifies/Silences his target. Esuna-able. * Tricksy Toss/Gran Slam stuns for longer. * Gran Slam also causes bleed effect. Increase Gran run speed. * Stacking [scrapped] debuff caused by Rabbit Riposte that increases damage taken. This debuff does not fade and must be monitored and controlled through tank switching and proper aggro control. * Extreme Mode [Gran-Standing] - any non-auto-attack that hits Gran is countered with [Lilmagast], dealing extremely high damage to the entire party, if not wiping them immediately. * Extreme Mode: Change to four phases, with the first three based on his mentors (possible Echos of Mentors as added spawns), with high damage final phase. Music Selection: fQy8ktTe5ZE ~*~ I was going for a goofy, yet interesting fight kinda along the lines of the ones you get in the Hildibrand quest-line. Good? Bad? Thoughts?
  2. I think it's pretty obvious that Chachan's supposed to be a mood-brightener. He does has his sad moments and whatnot, as he has his own feelings that can be hurt as well as his own insecurities, but on the whole he's supposed to capture that "naive, young hero" aspect. He's inherently a "good boy" who wants as many people happy as possible. His naivety flows pretty seamlessly into his action scenes, as well. He's spastic, he doesn't plan, and he tends to lean towards whatever would be the coolest or most heroic thing to do at the time. The issue with that is that he doesn't have the skill or the experience to back up his actions quite yet, so it often leads to him slipping up and things not going the way he wants. On the other hand, his energy and his belief in doing the "right thing" serves as a nice counterbalance, and he's somehow quite the endearing little guy. So, I'd have to put Chachan under the heading of "Comedic, But..." due to his being more than simple comic relief. Kinda along the lines of the Slayers anime - it has plenty of silly moments, but it can also get quite serious when it needs to.
  3. They do that, yes. Or dress up as reindeer.
  4. I like the whole David and Goliath thing going with tiny dudes taking on and beating much larger dudes. I think I started sometime in Vanilla WoW watching a Gnome Warrior tank Onyxia in 40-man. Huge destructive beast being held at bay by a little guy no bigger than one of her talons. Plus, there's something inherently amusing to the idea of the grand hero of the MSQ being this dumpy little guy with a button nose. Doubly so since I've given both my Lalas the face, which makes them look rather displeased with anything they're doing in the story. Dodging thrown cards, dancing a jig with pirates, facing down prials. All with the hardest disinterest possible provided by a knee-high hero. (Also they're adorable.)
  5. Knowing Chachan? Panic. He wants to be a hero and all, but if his incident with the Thanalan wasps is any indication, when things get suitably dangerous... he kinda falls to pieces. He's working on that though! If he's lucky, he might be able to jump in to provide a litany of stuttered pleas for peace and settlement. What he would like to do in such a situation is jump in, deflecting whatever fatal instrument is being used, and skillfully defuse the situation. If there is an obvious bad guy, they would be promptly defeated - preferably shown the error of their ways and turned back to the side of good - and everyone would go out for sweets. He's quite the dork, you see.
  6. Man, a place where everyone gets together and makes nice? Sounds like the place for Chachan to be. And an excuse for him to have his tuxedo on, though he might need to lose the shades. Barring some horrible IC or OOC event, I will probably try to finagle a way for Chachan to head on out there.
  7. The sharp laugh, followed by the sharp smell of spice, startled Gran out of curious snufflings and brought his attentions back to the folks at the table. He shot Avis an incredulous look, with her being the only one in motion and therefore the cause of the shocking sensations. She said something to him, but again he had no clue as to what, before extending a sleepy hand towards him. Considering the recent startle, plus the food-scare from the start of this little adventure, it was no surprise that Gran retreated a bit into Steel Wolf's arms at the presented appendage. He gave a small snort of warning, his dangling tail flicking back and forth like a viper looking for the right moment to strike. His eyes were locked on that approaching hand, as if it were the claw of an angry coeurl. It was to this scene that the waiter returned with the first of the table's food choices - an assortment of fresh vegetables chopped and quartered and presented for easy plucking and consumption with one's fingers. Being a tavern first and foremost, it was no surprise that the Quicksand would provide a decent selection of finger foods so that one could talk and eat at the same time. Distracted eating meant more eating, which meant more coin being spent to replenish the quickly vanishing foodstuffs. Methods that led to more coin being spent, a standard Ul'dah procedure. This didn't keep the waiter from being wary as he set the plates down. His eyes mostly downcast and focused on china and table rather than the people he served. He did glance up once or twice in the process, and was met with a strange standoff between Hyur and piglet. He was quick to avert his gaze again. "So... ah... Ms. Momodi said she knows what to feed your... pet," he intoned as he set the last plate into place. "It... it should be brought out with... the rest of the meal." He looked quite ready to retreat and leave the group to their roughage.
  8. I think a couple people mentioned similar things, but I tend to have an idea and often like to set fitting music to it after the fact. I suppose a good example of this is the forum RP I have going right now with Gran - Running of the Piglets. I knew I wanted to do a goofy little thing about a baby behemoth wandering around getting into trouble. Whenever I'm in an aimless, peppy sort of mood, I often found myself humming Nina's theme from BoF3 (in no small part because it's simple and quite catchy), so I included it in the OOC preface for others to enjoy. So, I suppose it's less that the music shapes the roleplay, but more that it adds... focus? Direction? I know that when I really want Chachan to do stuff that's lighthearted and goofy, I'll pull up Baby Elephant Walk. And even before coming to RPC, I liked finding appropriate music when choreographing a fight scene in a story. Odd enough, I've had ideas - and attributed music - for fights that haven't even happened yet. ... Is that weird?
  9. Listen, rocket pig boots and life-threatening operations / lifelong suffering are two entirely different things! But it's cool, he'll build Dogberry a rocket couch to make up for it. Right? Has to do something with that old couch. .....A rocket couch, Dog. Think about it. I'm not even really sure how that would work, actually. You can install that couch on Dogberry's chocobo. After the new intake, headers, roll bars, manifold, and exhaust. And a hover conversion. I don't think Hover-Opo technology is ready to be moved to the large scale yet.
  10. (Tried the two-color thing with Chachan's hair. Looked like a frosted pine tree. The look just followed. )
  11. Sounsyy's so lonely. ; ; Both of you need to quit your wining. (Sorry not sorry)
  12. There's something about the FFXIV rain effects that put me in the mood for atmospheric screenshots. Of course, I still take... other screenshots.
  13. That angle just makes that whole scene look so decidedly comfy. I can imagine someone just rolling happily on the carpet in front of a roaring fire. Probably Chachan.
  14. I've nothing against Dragoons or their jumping, myself. I was just doing an amusing thought experiment on how the second half of the jump would work. How it actually works doesn't really matter, it was just fun to muse upon. I've actually not encountered any Dragoons in-character (Except maybe Crisiet, does he count? And even then it was more just goofing off than real RP) and thus have no real basis to pass judgment. And so I will seek not to. It should be noted, however, that anyone can play any class badly - both in PvE and in RP. You can have the Ninja that doesn't move out of AoE because they expect the healer to keep them up while they do "massive deeps," and you can have BLMs who claim they can insta-win any fight by quick-casting Flare centered inside their opponent's brain-case. So, maybe the stigma is less against Dragoons themselves than the number of bad players who gravitate to them? I dunno. As I mentioned, I haven't really RP'd with many Dragoons.
  15. He wanted RP not death! Please don't let Dogberry know there were rocket boots made for someone who wasn't him... the seas are not large enough to hide! @_@; He can escape on Gran, it's cool. Cat riding a tiny piglet, rocketing through the skies.
  16. Funnily enough, Cid actually doesn't really work with the Ironworks proper anymore and is only the president in name. His deputy, Jessie, took control after Cid kept running off on adventures and neglecting his business. That's actually why the Ironworks armor exists. It was basically a way to help the Ironworks from going under. But yes! I do not think it would be terribly hard to convince Merri to attempt to make rocket boots for your little buddy. (Or whatever is it that you really had in mind, haha.) He loves attempting to piece together absolutely absurd concepts. But we won't talk about those misadventures here. Did not know that... but that does make a good degree of sense. What with all the running around Cid was doing in the MSQ. Support your local Magiteknicianstm, purchase Ironworks armor! And the concept is certainly an absurd one, though it may not be out of scope for some of the things that have already been done from a technological standpoint. However, considering the sensitive nature of it, it would probably be best discussed through Private Messages.
  17. Haha, I was wondering if someone else would jump on the idea before I got home and did it myself.
  18. You make a pretty fair point. The intended audience (if I may use such a term for the others you RP with) does play pretty heavily on what you can and cannot... "get away with," I suppose would be the term. I would think that keeping some of the points in mind might still help, though - especially the generic bits about fleshing your character out - to better play the character and make them feel more alive to both you and whomever you choose to play with. Plus, it never hurts to have some ideas in place should you try to step outside your circle should you ever feel the urge to.
  19. If I may be so bold as to add one, which I think should be included on any creative process: 6.) Don't be afraid to ask for help! There's a lot to take in when making a character in a set lore, whether it be Final Fantasy or wherever else. It's simple enough to ignore it and do whatever you want, but that will often lead to conflict when you try to interact with other players. Trying to fit into the lore, as mentioned, can help your character fit better into the world as a whole. It can be a difficult process. However, you should remember that you don't have to do this alone - this is a massively multiplayer online game. While you want to tweak your approach for them, they can also serve to help you out too. Whether it be figuring out your character's back-story, how to script a battle, or how to role-play in general, there's others who are willing to help you out. Don't be afraid to ask for some guidance if you're stumbling at some point or another. And even if you're uncomfortable with straight up asking, there's nothing wrong with just observing and seeing how other people play their characters. (EDIT: Made it a little more eloquent, rather than just a simple stream of consciousness... )
  20. ... I require this hat. I require it badly. Too bad it'll be ages before I actually get it, though.
  21. It took me a bit to figure out, too. It's brackets. [Whatever you type in them will be italicized.] I've also been beaten to the punch on saying that, haha. I'd be all for helping in making Magic cards for people due to being the nerd that I am, but I don't know everyone well enough to do them justice. Also, there's an easier alternative to all this: Too soft. No second chances. I'm not where I can actually make the card but... Error 90000 - BUUX Instant Remove X target creatures from the game.
  22. That just means we need to hunt down a Triple Triad card maker.
  23. Haha, I figured as much after I posted, so I hunted down some examples. Still, as others have shown, there's nothing keeping you from having two different Yangh cards. I just thought it was an interesting gimmick worth mentioning (and Rat Wizard is still one of my favorite creature types for whatever reason). I think we're up to... what, five different Jaces now?
