Well, I'll give it a shot. For some reason, I keep imagining Chachan being like Dan from Street Fighter or Gon from Tekken... 3 (?) or even Deadpool in MvC. Basically a "joke" character that could possibly be dangerous in the right hands. As I started thinking up moves for him, he somehow became that obnoxious counter-character some people don't like. Ouch, it's was obnoxious enough for me as a healer. I literally just did the roulettes every day. All the ones that gave tomes. Even the story one. Couple that with the 6 daily Beast Tribe dailies, and I usually had enough to buy an extra map pretty much every day. I was short a handful of times, but usually I could do two maps. It's tedious, it's boring, and it's a lot of work... but that's basically how I did it. SE has apparently designed this quest to be as much of a slog as possible, so it taking a while is more or less implied unless you're doing some serious grinding for extra maps. And, you probably already know this, but make sure you have a friend handy. I soloed all my maps (SCH + Fairy + Chocobo = One Man Team... usually), and there was nothing more frustrating than losing an Alexandrite because the game decided now was the best time to start chugging like Homer Simpson on a treadmill. It was always when I hit the Cyclops with swarm of tiny puks or that stupid Mythril Golem, too.

All the remnants of Lalafell's musings on Roen's reasons for Paladinhood evaporated immediately once she came into view. He was still quite eager to know the hows and whys of her path, of course, but he was also very eager to find out what the day's lesson plan was. In fact, for whatever reason, the chance at more Chocobo riding tricks seemed a little more appealing than an afternoon focused solely on deep-seated introspection. It was the darndest thing. "Ah, Ms. Roen! Haldo!" The greeting at her approach was light and cheery, coupled with an energetic wave from his seat that elicited a small, surprised wark from his young mount. That hand was then quickly re-purposed into bashfully fiddling with his Cactaur-shaped earring when she complimented his timeliness, a small chuckle escaping his lips before he was able to respond in a more concrete fashion. "Well, ya said ta come meet ya here, so... so I did." It was not the most learned of explanations, but it suited the youngest Gegenji just fine. And it was not like the statement, as clumsy as it was, wasn't truthful. Whether it be with his friends or his mentors, Chachanji truly enjoyed spending time with those closest to him. If they were upset, he wanted to cheer them up as best he could. If they were happy, he reveled in that and they were all happy together. Even if it was just a quiet time together, like sharing a seat with his best friend and pseudo-sister Leanne, he was more than content to do so. If there was an added bonus to it, though, like getting to improve his swordplay or learning how to ride his freshly obtained bird? That was even better. If he likened spending time with those he cared about to being given a piece of cake, then anything extra that helped him climb closer to his heroic goals of heroism was like getting another piece to go with it. Or perhaps it was more like one big piece of cake - a good piece, with frosting and sprinkles and all the other nice stuff. How could you say no to something like that? Of course, that line of thinking put Chachanji heavily in the mood for sweets. Darndest thing. He broke eye contact with his mentor just long enough to fish a Yellow Drop out of one of his pouches and popped it into his mouth, filling it with a delightful flash of lemon flavor. It was no cake, to be sure, but it was still quite good regardless. Plus, he was going to be getting his figurative cake too now that Miss Roen was here. He flashed his mentor a happy smile then, one that grew all the wider when Roen all but affirmed that the day's plans included something involving Chocobos. Already, it was starting to look like another happy "double-or-possibly-oversized-figurative-piece-of-cake" day, a term that was in dire need of shortening. Even better, with a cheerful glimmer in her eyes, the Free-Sworn had said it was going to be something fun. Chachanji loved fun! And friends. And Chocobos. And cake. And Yellow Drops. ... Chachanji liked a lot of things, really.

Aiden's dramatic tirade sent the little Lalafell reeling a bit. It was not entirely unexpected, considering who he was dealing with, but that didn't keep it from being more than a little off-putting. It didn't help that he veered into events and information that Chachanji had not been privvy to. Who was Mr. G'leo and what's this about his potential death? Ms. Eva had been put into jail and nearly poisoned? Those were, however, ultimately questions for later clarification. What he could tell is that those events had riled the already easily-riled Hyur to apparently new heights. The same man who had stubbornly held a wine barrel over his head at Ser Romy's instruction, stalwart in his belief he could do it for as long as it took, had been shaken enough to tender his resignation from his dream of becoming a Sultansworn. Or maybe it was because of his zealous approach to things that had resulted in his frustration - something Chachanji could easily relate to, considering recent events. "A lotta th' questions yer askin' go way above my head, Aiden," the youngest Gegenji admitted with a small shrug. "I do think I get where yer comin' from, though. Doin' good 'cuz it needs doin'. I do th' same, though maybe not ta th' extent y'do. I do a lotta grunt-work fer th' people in th' city fer what few coins they're willin' ta toss at me, 'n I've been makin' my own trips outside th' walls to try ta help those out there as well. There's no farce in that; that's good, honest work." "If I hafta fault ya for anythin', it might be yer goin' at it too strongly, if'n that makes sense." Chachanji scratched the back of his head, unsure if he even knew what he was saying. He was kinda just following his heart at this point. "Rose has her own... oddities... but she's all business when it's needed. 'n more importantly, she knows when ta turn that off 'n unwind, even if'n its in her own strange way. Every time I've seen ya, yer goin' full tilt 'bout somethin', treatin' every single situation as a grand crusade 'n never slowin' down none. Remember when we first met? Ya were verbally tearin' my head off fer runnin' 'round th' Quicksand." As much as he was trying to keep somber, some of his innate cheerfulness bubbled to the top in the form of a wry grin. "What was it ya said? That'd I'd trip 'n crack me head open?" He counted on his fingers even as he recounted all the things Aiden had said to him. "Or I'd trip someone else 'n they'd crack their head open? Or that I'd trip up a Roe, who'd fall on someone else 'n they would both die? Pretty amazin' claims, y'know?" Chachanji shook his head, letting the smile evaporate slowly before meeting Aiden's gaze again. "Still, despite that... interestin' meetin', I'm pretty happy ta have met ya," the Lalafell continued. "As I said, yer doin' a lotta things I'm doin'. Ya want ta halp folks, ya wanna make things better, I understand 'n respect that. But, as I learned that day we were all up on th' rise, ya hafta learn ta pick yer battles. Ya can't try ta fix e'rythin' or yer just gonna end up frustrated 'n with e'rythin' still broke. Includin' yerself." "It's a frustratin' feelin', I know," the youngest Gengeji sighed. "Feelin' like ya can't do nothin'."

"Ugh I need to update my character's Wiki"
Gegenji replied to Berrod Armstrong's topic in RP Discussion
I mostly made Chachan's page because... well, I could. It's a lot like the whole trading card deal that Warren said, but there's also that nice feeling of looking at the finished product and saying "Yup, that's my character. I did that." Even just adding little tidbits that give passing mention to what the character has done, the relationships they've made... it helps really drive home that this character is out there doing things. Meeting people. Plus, it's a nice reference point for both yourself and anyone who wants to know about your character. Could there be meta-data the other player could use? Possibly, but hopefully most players I would like to play with will avoid using knowledge they shouldn't have. Plus, I don't think knowing a few bullet points about major events in a character's life really ruins the experience of actually meeting the character. It's like reading about... I dunno, Weird Al, let's say... and running across the guy at a Starbucks and hitting it off. It's not exactly like that, of course - since it's you reading about the person and not your own character - but I feel the comparison applies considering you are meeting the character as much as your own character is. -
... Just imagined a Lala couple getting married and their ringbearer is a max-size Roegadyn. I'm not sure if it makes it more dramatic and touching or sillier to imagine the Roe having to kneel down to present the rings. (Yes, I know, the footage just has them magicking the rings on, but let me have my goofy dreams.)

Fun and completely unrelated fact: On the British show "QI" or "Quite Interesting", this was actually pointed out to be not true. There were plenty of model colors. If I remember correctly (which I may not), black was actually one of the colors not available for purchase! And that was a wonderful breakdown of your character's color identity, Dasair. Blue is, as mentioned, a thinking color as well, so even though you mentioned it only in passing, it still fits! I'm also liking the trend towards more detail for color choices, from Verad's attention-bringing colors to Fae's wintery theme. Vaughn even brings up the added idea of what colors your character might not wear! I haven't even thought about that with Chachan! ... Pink, maybe?

"Err... well enuff, I 'spose," Chachan admitted at the Hyur's opening statement, using his free hand to scratch the back of his neck as he returning to a more comfortable standing position. The Lalafell still hadn't quite gotten the hang of the day/night countenance that Aiden often proffered: either stoic and stern or heated and animated. Most of the times when stepping in to try to help the fellow, he had been dealing with the latter rather than the former. His inexperience with it showed rather plainly as he answered the - apparently now "former" - Sultansworn hopeful. "I haven't heard much word from 'em, actually," the youngest Gegenji admitted, canting his head to one side and scratching bashfully behind the lower of the two ears with a finger. "Been hearin' a lotta talk 'bout folks gettin' married 'n Ms. Hat needin' a break from Ul'dah..." He caught himself quickly enough from rambling. This wasn't about him right now, it was about Aiden and what he'd been going through. Straightening, Chachanji dropped both hands to his hips and shook his head slowly to clear his head and regain his focus. When he looked up again at his downtrodden companion, his violet eyes were sharp and clear. "So ya gave up on th' trainin', then?" he questioned, though it was more a clarification of what had already been said than an actual question. The more important one, the more pertinent one, was what followed. "Are ya sure that's what ya want? 'cuz ya look pretty bummed out about it ta me." One hand released its grip on his hip and again reached to rest itself on the Hyur's shoulder, giving a gentle squeeze to show that the Lalafell was there for him. "Or is this 'bout somethin' else? Somethin'... deeper?" he pressed, trying to get Aiden to open up some more to him. "Ya don't hafta say if'n ya don't want ta... but I'm here ta listen anyroad if'n ya do."

December 12th (or whatever the FFXIV equivalent would be) will from henceforth be known in Eorzea as "Wedlock Day."

Iiiiiinteresting.... :tonberry: Verad has many evil twins. Not all of them are Duskwights. Family reunions tend to be really big and complicated. And dubious. Anyroad! I'm honestly intrigued by a lot of these answers. A few have delved into the reasons for their colors, a few have simply listed them. Neither is wrong, of course, it's just the color lists set me to wondering. Do you choose those colors because they simply look nice, or is there an underlying meaning to them?

Chachanji had been musing over the letter that Aiden has sent him. He had thought to write back right away, but he hadn't been sure what to put. While he could read and write well enough, his literary skills weren't the most well-honed things and he worried about sending the wrong message. Which would cause Twelve-knows-what chaos if it was the proud farm-raised Hyur doing the misinterpreting. So the little Lalafell found himself heading towards the gates of Ul'dah, to try and speak with the man in person. He had mentioned Aiden to Ser Warren, and the Free Paladin had responded simply that some just didn't make the cut for Sultansworn. However, that still left a nagging feeling in his gut, like that sort of answer was just not enough for him. Perhaps it had to do with the fact he saw a bit of his own dream - his wish to be a hero and protect people - mirrored in the Aiden's zeal, that made him so unwilling to see him flounder and possibly fail. His journey did not take overly long, and not just due to the short distance betwixt Quicksand and the Gate of Nald, but because his quarry was seated upon the steps outside. He wanted to give a cheerful shout, to jump and wave to the Hyur and try to rub off his positive energy on the guy. However, even from here, he could tell something was really eating at the Sultansworn-hopeful. So, instead, he fell into that odd, dichotomous role he seemed to always take in Aiden's presence and approached him as the watchful guardian and, hopefully, friend. Even with the Hyur sitting down, the youngest Gegenji had to reach a bit to be able to pat the man gently on the shoulder. "Hey... are ya alright there, Aiden?"

That's a good point. Military weddings are a thing, after all. I'd like to assume you just have to be wearing the band to initiate the event, and the dress is left to your own decision - using the given pieces or not. We'll just have to wait and see until folks done get married, I suppose.

Red and black are very powerful colors that go nicely together. They also both (again referring to DHD for this sort of thing) are used to imply a serious nature. Red is passionate and dangerous, while black carries the obvious connotations of death and oftentimes evil. That could work well for what he wants to present to the world: someone you don't want to mess with. Someone who can break you in half if you cross them (and Berrod being a MNK, he probably could). Do you think those colors fit Berrod as a character, too? ... I just wanna know if I'm thinking too much about this, but that may already be a given. Grey's a good choice from what I understand of Warren as a character, and a bit of what I infer from him. It can imply dull and moody or even depressing if used in excess. However, it can apparently also imply calm, understated confidence... which I've picked up several times in our RPs. I agree that grey is a very "Warren" color. Haha, glad you like the topic idea. Black/Grey seems to have a overlapping feeling of elegance, as well as the things I mentioned above. Many folks look quite dapper in blacks and greys. Blue, as I mentioned with Chachan, can be a very reflective color. The page also assigns it to intellectualism, delicacy and daintiness, and intuitive understanding. Oh, and royalty, of course. ... Also, if anyone else has good color meaning links, please feel free to share. It feels odd using just a home decoration link as my point of reference.

"There are infinite shadings of light and shadow and colors... it's an extraordinarily subtle language. Figuring out how to speak that language is a full-time job." - Conrad Hall I've been musing again, and this may or may not be a good thing. It all revolves around Chachanji's outfit. Not what top or pants or hat to use - though that can be a daunting task in and of itself - but what to dye them. My artistic skill usually floats between "passable" and "what the heck is this?", but I've been trying to improve some aspects of it. And currently that's got me thinking about colors and what they mean. I like this sort of thing. The connotations Man places on various things. The meaning of flowers, the meaning of symbols on heraldry, and now the meaning of colors. You can help convey a character visually through use of color, and I've been wanting to do that for my goofball of a Lalafell. After looking at a few color combinations and the meanings behind them, I've come to what I think is a good swatch that conveys Chachan, or at least what he tries to present to the world. It should be noted, though, that most of this information was taking from a page that talks about colors for home decoration, so take it as you will. (The first just pops out because the green is close to Chachan's hair color, but I'm going into the other three.) First and foremost is what I consider Chachan's primary color: Orange. Dream Home Decorating (hereafter referred to as DHD) describes orange as the warmest color. It's a color that's emotionally stimulating, energetic, vibrant, and fun. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? In addition, the page points out that orange is also a holy color in India and Nepal - fitting for someone with dreams of being a Paladin. Following close behind is Yellow. DHD describes yellow as being optimistic and life-affirming. It's compared, understandably, to sunshine and is used to brighten up darker areas. Considering Chachan is all about being cheerful, achieving his goals, and helping others, this color also fits him well. Almost as good as orange. This are both very bright, very active colors, though. He needs a color to cool him down, to match those periods of reflectiveness that he has undergone through his life. That offsetting color is, of course, Blue. More specifically, I'm leaning towards indigo, which is used in a spiritual environment (and the hue of his sword before I even started delving too deep into his color signature). Of course, now that I've figured out these colors, I need to figure out which dyes will give me the colors I want. Do I want a brighter orange and a darker yellow? Vice versa? What parts of the outfit to I dye which of the colors? Pants being blue fits in a "blue jeans" kinda way, but what about the other two? While I continue to muse about that, I put this question upon you all: What colors best fit your character? Can you describe them in just one color, or are they better described with two or three to really get all those nuances? Do you use them when you dye your outfits, or do you go with a different approach?
-
Currently Chachan's "nice" outfit just consists of the tuxedo ensemble. His biggest concern would most likely be whether he's to show up with or without the sunglasses. Which may or may not result in this sort of exchange: "Do ya want th' sunglasses on? Or off?" "Off please." "Too bad."

Not a problem. What little knowledge I have is gleaned from clicking on edit for other peoples' pages and seeing how they wrote their code, so I'm glad to pass on what I learned when I can.

Double brackets around the name. Example, if you wanted to link to Chachan's page, it'd be [[Chachanji Gegenji]]. That got me for the longest time, too. I kept trying to do your standard HTML links.
