Back on Asura in 2004, we had over 5000 people on at the same time often. I don't think anyone should be worried about over 5000 people on the same server, most of whom won't even be on in the same timezone.

Well, I'm sorry but I really do not see that happening. We picked Besaid as our server within 24 hours of our server being announced. It has been announced on all three premiere community sites that Besaid is where the roleplayers are, and we put it up to a vote of all 700 of our members. It might be harder for you to gather 2,000 people together on the same server, but we have been on Besaid since the second day of Open Beta and I don't see that changing.

Even though I type MUCH faster than I can write out something by hand, and I've almost always got a PC or a laptop nearby, I still write on paper a lot. I find it's much easier to brainstorm and get creative with writing when using paper. Staring at a blank Word doc is just never as alluring as when faced with a blank sheet of paper.

Surprisingly, we found an underground village of buccaneers (and also many yarzons, giant crabs, man-eating fish, and hyenas):

I agree with this. Jumping would be nice of them to include, to add to player agency and all that, but it seems like whenever someone says "You know what would be nice? Jumping." People jump (hahaha I am so clever) all over them. To me it's like if someone said to their mom, "You know what would be nice? If you did your hair long instead of short." and a bystander replied, "You don't like her hair? GET A NEW MOM!" The ridiculousness of the analogy here is how ludicrous I feel people are being when they say things like, "If you want jumping so badly, go play something else." Everyone is allowed to still love a game and be critical of it. We critique because we care. There are of course, PLENTY of things wrong with this game that deserve to be thrashed to pieces by the press. Jumping is primarily a cosmetic preference by some, but it unfortunately it's the first thing to get thrown out there for pointless, circular debate.

When I level up shield I get ranks in Sentinel. Beyond that, I think we haven't reached a decent level or found the right equipment to see what the difference would be.

Yes there is! Alchemists can. The recipe is: Fine Sand x1 Normal Shard x16 You get 1 crystal per 16 shards. I'm not sure what level you have to be to make crystals. I know that turning crystals into shards is level 8 alchemy, so turning shards into crystals is probably somewhere in that level range as well.

Hiiiiighly unlikely, since they have said that the server you are on in open beta is the server your name will be reserved on at release.

Yep, just docked in Limsa then got my Aether point and teleported back to Ul'dah. The ferry docks at the same spot where your boat does in the opening Limsa-Lominsa cut scene. You can't just walk on the ferry like you did in XI (*sadface*), you have to talk to an NPC and you'll get a cutscene where you run on to the boat.

I think you are confusing Final Fantasy for D&D Onlne. Final Fantasy games are not your typical high fantasy Tolkein-esque settings. Many FF games have tropical beaches in them. Are you implying that people from warmer climates don't have a solid mythology or imagination?

There's about six other server names I would have personally preferred over Besaid, but the name isn't the point. The vote is done so let's keep it that way. :3 Instead of worrying about what name is better, we should be focusing on settling in on Besaid and making it feel homey to ourselves and each other.

I'm absolutely in love with Ul'dah and Thanalan. It captured my interest when all we had was the concept art, but being in the city itself is just amazing.
