New FF14 Interview: What you hated in beta is here to stay
Aveline replied to Aveline's topic in FFXIV News
I like your ideas, Sass! I want to stress, though, S-E does want an auction house in place. They aren't implementing it right away because they want the player economy to establish itself first through bazaars (for whatever reasons; they haven't specifically said why yet). The buildings are already in the game, the map markers, etc. We just can't go inside of them yet. -
Oschon's Torch is in game Also if you would like a list of places we have seen in game, FFXIVMaps did a great job of compiling a bunch of stuff together, from the game and the dat files.: http://www.ffxivmaps.com I'm just going to throw this out there: Snurble Radio

If there is not a lengthy "update" that takes several hours upon installation of the game.. I will burst into flames from the shock of it. ;P
-
What about something Eorzean themed, like Radio Navigator (Llymlaen would rule the airwaves as well as the seawaves, right?), or a direct take from the game, Oschon's Torch.

The still-existing lack of /emote: concerned?
Aveline replied to Satisiun's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I don't think we have much to worry about. Before beta there weren't any text commands at all. If there aren't any at open beta, I would start getting a little concerned, but right now there are still many commands missing that we know they are going to implement (like friends list, and being able to give people "nicknames" so you don't have to type out their whole name, etc.) -
Yeah time-wise... someone, somewhere on this planet, is going to have the game before us. I also think the servers are going to be listed before anyone is even done with the downloads.

That is an excellent idea. I just left it in the feedback section :3

New FF14 Interview: What you hated in beta is here to stay
Aveline replied to Aveline's topic in FFXIV News
Why is RMT on the AH even an issue? S-E handled this eventually with the RMT taskforce in FFXI, and I see no reason why they can't handle it the same way in XIV. Knowing there will be an AH "eventually" makes me happy enough to still consider buying the game. (I would not even consider playing it if I knew I was going to be condemned to slogging through bazaar hell every time I needed to buy something) RMT is going to be a problem in any game, no matter what. There is no magic fix to make them go away, and limiting player convenience certainly isn't the way to go about it. -
New FF14 Interview: What you hated in beta is here to stay

Yes I've also used a controller and currently it works much better than the keyboard. However, I'm supposed to be testing a PC game, not a PS3-to-PC-shoddy-port, so I've been exclusively working with the keyboard and leaving feedback about it. If they want to bring this game to success in the US, they are going to need to take into consideration the vastly different playing styles between Japanese and US gamers. Stuff like this is why they need an anthropologist on their staff, damnit. (*sends resume to S-E* ) -

"Hey, everyone ready to go fight this thing?" "Oh crap I forgot my silent oils, potions, and I'm going to need a new sword at my next level. Hang on guys, I need to stop at the Market Wards first. brt in about 45 minutes!" -
A full "beginning" soundtrack to go with this story. The Sound of Settling - Death Cab for Cutie Mekong - The Refreshments Livin' on the Edge - Aerosmith Bad Medicine - Bon Jovi Animal - Jenny & Johnny http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoCjKBPEkno A Horse with No Name - America

Ultimecia! Yesssssssssss. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

He was Tidus' father in FF10. As I recall, I don't think you actually ever even fight him. He's mostly around in flashbacks from Tidus' original life where he was a mega blitzball star and basically just drank a lot and verbally abused Tidus. Later on he becomes the next incarnation of Sin or something (I forget exactly how Sin worked).
-
Hahaha, an arrogant, alcoholic, abusive father? Resonating with asshats? I am SHOCKED. Jecht is I think the most depressing bad guy in all of FF lore. He's not even really that much of a villain, he's just a dick.
-
If they stay the same can we not stay with Jecht? He was a retarded boss, there were plenty of way better ones and besides that the name is stupid. We only went with Jecht initially because half of us in beta were on Exdeath and half were on Jecht and the ones on Exdeath didn't want to make a big fuss about it since it was just beta. Say no to Jecht for launch day!

I usually go to PAX every year, but this time around I have to save up for mega birthday vacation in January. TALE has been talking about meeting up next summer for an awesome cookout, though right now people seem torn between wanting to road trip out to the west coast and wanting to descend upon all our Texan members and make them grill us some MEATS.

New FF14 Interview: What you hated in beta is here to stay
Aveline replied to Aveline's topic in FFXIV News
You can't really do it like how I think you're describing. You can't change jobs during combat, for one, and even when you do change jobs you have to reset all your abilities to be able to use them each time. I think macros are supposed to be able to help with that, but even still it isn't something you could easily use during a party. -
New FF14 Interview: What you hated in beta is here to stay
Aveline replied to Aveline's topic in FFXIV News
When I read that part of the interview, the first thing that came to mind was: Guess it's time to roll a caster. The second thing that came to mind was: Or just level cooking and make a fortune on juices! To me, it seems that they have made the game unbalanced in the other direction. I've only played casters in the beta solo, never in groups, so I can't say what it would be like in a party, but solo I only ran out of mana a couple of times and those were mainly due to me not paying attention. I honestly don't think the mana situation is as bad as they make it out to be. However, mana is much less important for non-casters. Even if my gladiator runs out of mana and can't perform Red Lotus, I still have a few other weapon skills that would work just as well. If a group is tethered to a mage's ability to regain MP, I can see this as being an issue in the long run for the fact that it is going to put a lot of pressure on the mages in the group. A healer will always be welcome, and I'm sure even moreso than in XI, they will be worshipped. But what about damage dealing mages? If a party finds them to be too inconvenient due to the mana loss, they will most likely opt for a melee job for the group slot instead. All of this is of course based on the premise that XIV players are going to be as douchey as the majority of the playerbase in XI, but I think it's still a valid concern. I'm curious to hear from people who have played caster classes in group settings in XIV for a good length of time, their opinions on this subject. -
http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?game=268&mid=128215658521544190&page=1 Key points: *They will be implementing an Auction House, but not right away because they really want us to give Market Wards (the ones universally loathed by all beta testers) a chance. Will we get any sort of mana regeneration abilities and/or items? "We're still working on this so we will make some small updates and improvements in the future, but at the same time we think managing mana should be difficult and a challenge to the players." (Translation: mages are fucked) *Regarding Guildleves: But the 48 hours cooldown is going to stay? "Yes that is the current plan."

Ah yes, I know that.. I guess that by saying him, I kinda excluded the opposite.. I apologize. And I think that you can find some Female Hawke concept art somewhere.. At least I think I remember having seen some. Yeah I wasn't trying to correct you, just trying to get it out there that Hawke doesn't have to be a dude, in spite of what the trailer shows. I was really excited when the first Dragon Age had female characters that ran the gamut of interesting personalities, and furthermore you yourself could play the game without thinking "Oh right this was designed with a guy in mind.." Then with DA2 not only do they take out all the cool race options, they go back to highlighting that their hero is mister MANLY MAN but could also be a female.. if you're in to that..
-
Hawke can be a female too, FWIW. Not that BioWare -ever- promotes the female side of their either/or main characters... but one can dream.

I posted over on that thread and already the rate-down trolls have descended. That's always nice.

I love Ul'dah even more now. Home sweet home in Tahrongi Canyon Thanalan! Gridania's opening cutscene sounds pretty sweet though, what with witnessing an airship crash, being attacked by wolves and then almost eaten by a tree. :approve:
