I like to laugh at the thought of the Flame Elites or Darklight set doing Death Blossom.
-
I can cross-class Death Blossom? I CAN CROSS CLASS DEATH BLOSSOM!!! THANK YOU ANIME MAN! You have made me a happy MRD! I hate Gwannes for giving me that goddamn name
-
I'd like to think so, yeah.

Don't wanna sound dismissive, but I think it's really just remembering how to do something and applying it to another class. PLD uses cure because he learned it, doesn't need super high mental strain or a catalyst to produce it. Stoneskin can be used along because it's just another spell used through a different means of casting. ...But then you have WAR's using Death Blossom, a 4-500 pound tank leaping into the air hurling knives everywhere.

Reasoning for irregular race/nationality combinations
ChewableMorphine replied to Seriphyn's topic in RP Discussion
Hm. This is gonna get reeeaaal awkward as I show my lack of world culture. Real-world France has a reputation for being similarly xenophobic. Preliminary glances at wikipedia of all places gives us this link detailing an "award" given out to prominent French folks who embrace - gasp! - the English language. It's similar to the Razzie Awards, only instead of being fun at the sake of bad movies, it's mocking someone for not being French enough. It has been brought to my attention, however, that this is far from the prevailing national attitude and is probably not the best example. Similarly, this link discusses how internally, France is also phobic against itself; speaking a dialect or language other than French in school is grounds for punishment. It's not too far-fetched to think that Ishgard would be as accepting to "lesser races" as the French are to fat, cheeseburger eating Americans butchering their language. And then letting that guy join their special forces. Do I wanna pull the eugenics card and make allusions to WW2 SS operatives or let the shitstorm do it's own thing. Ishgard is so bad that Garlemald accepts more immigrants into their special ops, going as far to making one a Legatus, Rhitatyn Sas Arvina. -

If people want to leave it 100% up to chance, that's their prerogative. I still see it as a crutch (not in a bad way). You lose the need for modifiers when you are actively roleplaying them out in a fight where both parties sort of understand body anatomy, handicaps, and the like. Everyone has a chance in fights, skill levels aside. My second sensei was around 5th dan? He should know how to block his face? One of my students, 2nd kyu brown belt, fakes him out and nails him in the eye with a very well placed side kick. Even though there are different levels of skill, doesn't mean lower tier has to lose. Things don't have to be predetermined to lose rolls, but that's just me and my experiences. Rolls for me take away the fun, personally. But then again, I don't RP characters who are meant to be gods of combat just so the duels can be fun. I actually avoid them with random people because I find my head spins when it's left up to rolls and things that shouldn't be possible are happening in emotes. I can totally get with you on that, I like the RNG, you like the probability (correct me if I goofed the word I was thinking of). So really the key to git gud at RP combat is to have fun. What are the fundamentals? I am fully capable of fighting fairly without the use of rolls as are others. And that's without outcomes being predetermined. I feel that if both parties can agree to just let it be chosen by /random, it can be arranged as such. Say Chubby McFats goes against say... Th'Nakluk the God Slayer. Chubby would indisputably get his ass torn into a singularity through common sense. But if you really wanna have some fun with it (which I stress you consult your partner for a mutual agreement), let Chubby have a slim chance at it. Which I kinda wish there were number modifiers to allow a handicap. But you gotta work with what you got. And to be more clear I mean fundamentals more as a "let's all have fun here" quality assurance. I think my choice of words were kinda shitty. I do that a lot. My bad.

I will always inherently disagree with roll battles. I think its fine for people who are less knowledgeable with fighting and basic anatomy, but most of the fights I do are not left up to rolls because fighting isn't 100% chance. I recognize, as do most of the people I actually RP fight with, that some things are not avoidable and some things are outright impossible anatomically. Also, I like to recognize other people's higher prowess in combat RP and will RP to a lesser skill in fields my character has lesser skill. Rolls should be left up to chance and chance alone, if you ask me. Unless you are not confident in your own or your partner's abilities. I can super agree with you if I wasn't solely basing it off of RP fundamentals. Characters and whatnot are a different story, but I mean to touch up moreso on the fairness of an RP battle for both parties. In which rule three I claim that if it's fixed, talk about it and go about it accordingly.

To generalize it into the most tl;dr way possible. I present to you the three golden rules. Thou shalt keepeth thy action open ended, lest you fail in your attempt to defend or attack Thou shalt not proclaimeth thyself as God, for ye are merely a belligerent, and are equally likely to fail as your engaged partner. Thou shalt placeth thy skill into the blessing of RNGsus, for he shalt guideth you to victory or defeat. Lest you chooseth to write upon your own epitaph or confirm thy victory in combat, consult thy belligerent for consent and proceed on agreed terms. Lore drops concerning Dragoon via the Heavensward Opening:
ChewableMorphine replied to Zelmanov's topic in RP Discussion
But then you have to consider rarity. Sadly, we see the story of this game through the eyes of someone who is one of a kind. Maybe the surrounding people around the WoL have these stones, but what is 3-5 people in the grand scheme of it all? You are dealing with a specialized story. Does that make sense? I'm not disagreeing, but it might just be another factor why a lot of the jobs are considered super rare in this world and why a lot of people stick to RPing classes over jobs. And it's my understanding that there classes like MNK where you unlock your gate without the soul stone. You just short of flash some light and then you are rewarded with it. (I haven't formally leveled since ARR's release, I apologize for my shoddy knowledge.) Yeah you don't get to actually physically see another soulstone. I only base my theory off the fact some shmuck died and you got it off of him. Which gave me the assumption that maybe either: It's a fate trope, you are the chosen one to take the baton. You just happened to be a bad enough dude to earn your soulstone and begin a higher tier of learning. -

Just to sorta build on my claim, yeah the whole ninja soulstone seems to be commonplace and perhaps rudimentary for the user. It's in the description of the NIN soulstone that it has inscriptions of epic tales and techniques on the gem itself. So on the topic of DRG, perhaps the soulstone is the key to their crazy-ass aetherpowerjumps? Like in an in-game standpoint, you can't do ninjutsus without a NINsoulstone (I'm gonna use NIN/WAR for the sake of them being the only class I maxed out past the soulstone), so maybe it's an actual lore mechanic that applies to it's user. A Warrior can't channel the Inner Beast without the soulstone (in which it describes the way of the Warrior, further implying the mastery of the Beast). That's just my guess. -

The WoL soulstone might not be the only one, but part of me doubts they are just laying around in high stock like 'here you go kid'. It's still implied that they spend a lot of time training. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the Ninja job starter, you flat out take the soulstone of a dead ninja. So that kind of makes me think that there maybe is a bunch of soulstones. Probably not like diplomas to a ROG, but certainly plentiful enough to support NPCs like Oboro(?) and Karasu. Somebody call a lore hound on this, I kinda wanna know the deal with soulstones. -

I would advise re-watching the Heavensward opening cinematic. Nowhere in there does this happen. What you're likely seeing is the sudden cut from one airborn dragoon hurling his polearm to another dragoon leaping in a certain direction only to be taken midair by a dragon's maw (if what you're looking at instead is the sudden "jerking" motion of the first dragoon hurling said polearm, note that aerodynamically speaking, a sudden change in profile can result in increased drag that consequently results in a loss of airspeed and a sudden drop in altitude). Also the "instant liftoff" looks more like a leap to me. Yes, granted, more likely aetherically assisted than not, "anime-style" powered jumps, if you will. Interesting side-note: the first major "bolt" that hits the dragon in the opening cinematic is actually a dragoon impacting the dragon's back. Close inspection of its subsequent flailing reveals a dragoon with his polearm embedded in the beast's spine. Dragoons literally fight like Divekick characters. Straight lines often downward in a diagonal motion. They're the scum of fighting games. Or should I go as far to say the scum of fighting GAE BOLGS HYUCKHYUCKHYUCK I'LL BE HERE ALL WEEK -
