Does Slaying a Primal Release the Tempered?
Oats McGoats replied to Oats McGoats's topic in Lore Discussion
Thanks all! /thread -
Quick yes or no question! Please cite sources. Does slaying a primal release any people tempered by the primal?

If you mean server queue, there is none. And if you mean dungeon queues, all worlds share same match making so, just as long as other servers. Ah sorry, I meant for roulettes and DF in general.

Has anyone checked queue times on Mateus? How are they looking?

discussion What do you mean, "Looking for storyline"?
Oats McGoats replied to Chompie's topic in RP Discussion
Well, a lot of RP FCs (and RP guilds in other games) will advertise over-arcing storylines but eventually end up in a "bar RP" lull where the story doesn't get addressed much (usually do to the fact that running a major story is a looooot of work). I would take it as them saying, "I want more than bar RP." -
balmung [Event over!] "So... do you wanna buy some drugs?"

I would have Flavie get involved in this somehow, but my free time is a bit limited for RP lately and she's sleeping off a gunshot wound anyway. U n U -

Hi everyone! Your friendly neighborhood Yazi here with questions about Arcanists! My partner is really confused about how Arcanists operate. I was able to answer most of her questions, but the finer points I am apparently super rough on... 1) How does Arcanist magic work? I know that they use mathematical equations related to the arrangement of different symbols and whatnot to cast spells (like badass geometry? ), but do they have to carve the symbols onto something? Do they have to touch a diagram with their palm? Do they have to say something related to the diagram? Or do they just have to… I dunno, look at the diagram? 2) What purpose does the grimoire actually serve? Is it just a handicap, so they can have a visual of the symbols to help them? I.e., can they cast without the grimoire, and it’s just more difficult? 3) Speaking of carving symbols into things, I read to summon carbuncle they have to carve the summoning symbols into a crystal. Is this necessary? Are the crystals one-time use? Why is this the process? I.e., is the necessary aether stored in the crystals and used up once cast? 4) Do arcanists use solely their own aether, or do they also draw from other things? If other things, what other things? Do they have to be living? Do they have to be crystals? 5) What purpose do carbuncle serve? Are they mostly for extra firepower? Does it damage the arcanist when their carbuncle is hurt or destroyed? Is it the same carbuncle each summon? ----------------------------------- NEW QUESTIONS! ----------------------------------- 6) If the crystal used for a specific carbuncle shatters, would that mean the "death" of the carbuncle? Essentially the carbuncle could not longer be summoned, and the Arcanist must now find a new crystal to create a new carbuncle? 7) Does a carbuncle have to look like a carbuncle? In other words, could the Arcanist create the carbuncle with another appearance? Say... a moogle? (This is mostly asked from curiosity, not the desire to have a moogle carbuncle) 8) So are crystals needed to create your egi as well, using the tainted mist that enters the Summoner's body? 9) What is the significant difference between an Arcanist and a Summoner? Obviously the Summoner has the soulstone, but why can a Summoner create an egi and not an Arcanist? Does the soulstone give the caster's body the tolerance needed to absorb the primal mist and use that to create the egi? Thanks in advance for any insight!

Freelancer of Ishgard seeking work and connections.
Oats McGoats replied to SharlayanBlues's topic in Chronicled Connections
Does Garrett ever do any spying around? Flavie needs an expendable set of eyes in the Brume. -
balmung As an Ishgardian noble.
Oats McGoats replied to Simeon Sibaruse's topic in Chronicled Connections
Sounds fun! Any Ishgardian noble is an enemy of Flavie's, so if he ever needs to get robbed or something, let me know. ;D -

Oats McGoats replied to Gene Treno's topic in Chronicled Connections
Flavie deals in the shady for a living :3 ...When her FC-mates aren't watching. Hot good sell for the most! Give me a buzz if you ever need something hot moved from point A to B fast. She has a single-seater airship that can zip small cargo around in a jiffy. -
The Grey Knives :: Criminality in the Brume!
Oats McGoats replied to Oats McGoats's topic in Chronicled Connections
I'm happy to hear of the interest! It sounds like a past with the Grey Knives could work well for your character. A poor dusky would have had plenty of reasons to join in the early days, and plenty of reasons to leave in the late. The gang started out with an almost Robin Hood-esque philosophy (albeit with the racially charged aspect added to the mix). Unfortunately, what began as vigilante-ism evolved into pure, blinded zealotry, which is what drove Flavie to leave. She isn't above sketchy work and roughing others up for coin, but the Grey Knives had become nothing more than thugs and killers for money, which is what they are today. The only portion I would emphasize to those wishing to have a background with the Grey Knives is that if your character left, they will still have to deal with being tracked and the occasional bounty hunter. -
For the past fifteen years, whispers have carried below the Pillars of a band of thieves, murderers and ruffians. These members of dusky skin target wildwood and hyur alike, any of the variety so unwise as to venture alone through the Brume. Who are these deviants? The Grey Knives. The group started out of a sense of being wronged, its membership solely consisting of duskwight elezen from the Brume. The stereotypical dislike of wildwood only proved to grow stronger and extend to hyur as well, after lifetimes of watching highborn privileged individuals living lives in wealth in the Pillars. House Dzemael is seen as nothing more than a den of traitors to the plight of their duskwight brethren. In essence, the Grey Knives' fury rests in their perceived status as Ishgard pariahs. ================================================= What? :: The Grey Knives are intended to simply be an IC piece of Ishgard. Any who live in Ishgard may have heard of them, though word of their gang likely ends there. The Knives make their den in the darkest recesses of the Brume, traveling merchants not likely to cross their path without actually entering the Brume and being of the "wrong" heritage. Who? :: The Grey Knives are also an important part of the backstory of my character, Flavie Filoumonte. Any who are closely aware of the Grey Knives' activities (residents of the poorest sectors of the Brume, or actual Grey Knife members) would know that Flavie is an ex-member and is currently a target for them. Knowledge of the Grey Knives doesn't leave the Grey Knives without paying in blood. The gang is led by a towering, mountain of an elezen by the name of Henrienn Nighthawk. Estimates for the size of the gang are debatable. They operate in quick hit-and-runs typically, not sitting still for long enough to obtain a good count. People who go missing because of the Grey Knives do not return to tell the tale. When? :: The Grey Knives began fifteen years ago, growing (slowly) in numbers and influence in the Brume with time. Where? :: RP for the Grey Knives would likely be contained within Ishgard, as the gang isn't large enough to extend farther out. Why? :: I felt this could be a fun way to add to Ishgard RP, as well as to add to my character's backstory and make potential contacts with others. ^^ New Announcement :: The Grey Knives now have a Linkshell! This is open to anyone who wishes to be a current member, ex-member (these would be few, but I am open to it), or anyone who simply wants to follow the progress. Poke me for more info! **NOTES** • I am still not super savvy with Ishgard lore. I don't know if House Dzemael is actually confirmed to be duskwight, or if that's just an OOC rumor. Or an IC rumor of Duskwight blood. Basically I have no idea, and it's not really that important to the Grey Knife story anyway. • The Grey Knives are based on the idea that a group of Duskwights could have the perception that they are treated poorly due to their heritage and birth, and feel that even if they tried they could not ever actually be accepted among the wealthy. This is not me stating that I believe all or even most Duskwights in Ishgard would feel this way. This is not me creating or assuming lore, but simply creating a group of people in a small corner of the world that have their own opinions.

Lore question: Soul captured in weapon?
Oats McGoats replied to Altitis Acquired's topic in RP Discussion
I roleplay my character's staff (using the Madman's Whispering Rod appearance - this is relevant if you're aware of the staff's animation) as currently housing a corrupted nature spirit. If people want to gripe about the lore basis, idrc. I don't see it being a far lore stretch. I say go for it.
