  2. After having our ranks swell with new members, we must announce that we are again under an app freeze. We do not have an ETA when recruitment will open, so we can place more emphasis on developing RP and plotlines within the LS. We will make another announcement once recruitment is open again. Thanks! - Momone :chocobo:

  4. We are pleased to announce we are open for recruitment once again, after kicking off our LS/FC plot! The current Keyholders all share a strange dream over the course of a few nights, calling them to a settlement on the outskirts of the ruins of the Wanderer's Palace. After a curious encounter with rioting Mamool Ja intent on claiming their rights to the medicinal springs of Camp Bronze Lake, the Keyholders discover a strange tablet that reacts adversely to their own Keys. What could the object be, and how were they all seemingly called together to find it? Stay tuned to find out more... or, consider joining us to be a part of the story! - Momone :chocobo:

  6. Wow! After only being open for official recruitment for just over two weeks, we have to announce that we are under an app freeze until our new members have settled in and we've been able to kick off the LS/FC plot. We're really excited about the developments coming down the line, but if you're still interested in joining us, please keep an eye on our website where we'll announce when the app freeze has lifted. - Momone :chocobo:

  9. You remember that all of this started when you found the key. At first appearances, it didn't necessarily look like any key that you've seen. Slender, rectangular, and black with inset lines travelling down the length of its surface, you somehow know deep down that it's a key -- and also know that this key is yours. Upon discovering it one day, you've never seemed to find yourself without it; either you subconsciously can't permit yourself to lose the key... or the key itself refuses to be lost. After its discovery came strange dreams... dreams of times long gone, of faces and places that feel somehow familiar, but whose meaning continues to elude you. The echoes of the dreams gnaw and persist even in your waking moments... You feel if you could only decipher them, so many things would become clear... Then there was the time you were sure you knew a stranger that you'd never met. Awkward glances across a bar, a battlefield, or a bathhouse, pulling you to run up and speak to them as if you were the oldest of friends. Hesitation at what was happening to you -- to both of you -- kept you from acting. Yet, all the while, a whispered word in the back of your mind resonates like booming thunder when you lock eyes. Hekaton. __________ The Keys of Hekaton is an Heavy RP Linkshell/Free Company on Omega whose members are bound together by a shared fate and destiny. Drawing heavily on established lore (with a dash of creativity), the FC plot is designed to unravel the mystery of the "keys" and the force that has mysteriously gifted them to seemingly random people from all walks of life in Hydaelyn. Members of the LS/FC mysteriously find themselves in possession of one of the "keys" one day, which don't seemingly give the bearers any supernatural or mystical powers. Obtaining a key does corrolate to the beginnings of unusual dreams of places in the past, and also seems to grant the bearer the ability to find other "Keyholders". The function of the keys, their origin, and the destiny awaiting those people who have come into possession of a key is the overarching plot of The Keys of Hekaton and will be revealed as the LS/FC plot progresses. 11. We've got a really great line-up of old and new hosts to entertain and hopefully give you an afternoon/evening of great RP fun! Look forward to seeing you there! :moogle:
  12. One of the core tenants of roleplaying is dividing In Character and Out of Character acts and feelings. What a character does IC does not, and should not reflect, on one's OOC feelings and perceptions towards that player. Character interactions that are strongly romantic or strongly negative/violent/unsettling are the two most common - and dangerous - pitfalls where this falls apart for some players, and I would urge you not to fall into the same trap. When one builds a good RP rapport with a player, that very often leads to forming OOC friendships and getting to know one another as players rather than characters. In the above comments, some of these friendships have evolved further into OOC relationships, but these are very likely from building up a long term friendship that just happened to blossom into something else due to a host of reasons. I am confident there are many, many, many players out there for whom this is not the case: (read: they may have characters that are very much in love, but OOC they are either friends or perhaps even the very best of friends, but nothing more). Absolute nail on the head. It takes a long time to get to know anyone: be it in real life or online to the point where one can even remotely entertain the notion of 'love'. Please, please, please do not let the artificial highs of fictional romance sway OOC perceptions of someone. (And the same goes for IC negative interactions, should they arise! I've had a character recently go through some terrible things/terrible interactions with other characters, but I know OOCly that the players involved are right upstanding folks, and always ground myself in that if things seem very intense.) [Full Disclosure: I met my husband in an RP LS in FFXI, but it was a very, very long road OOC to get to that point - as most relationships are.]
  13. Hi Manoah! First off, welcome. I'm also based in the EU, but I play on Balmung. I migrated to it from Ragnarok (EU) a couple months after launch so I would have more opportunities for RP. I would see RP happening on Ragnarok, but most of it was in French - which didn't help me as I only speak English! Even though Balmung is mainly North American, there are certainly a handful of EU based RPers who purposely play there due to the volume of players there. I have a handful of friends who are scattered across the UK, Netherlands, Denmark, Spain, etc and they all play on Balmung for the RP opportunities. If you haven't checked it out already, on the top menu under Linkshells there is a good starting list of FCs and LSs available for RP. I can't comment on the other servers, but Balmung has a few that are either with a majority of players in EU time, or that strive to be "EU Friendly" and run events where possible so that both NA and EU members can attend. Edit: The link that Garalona gave in the post above is a great place to start too! If you're wanting to stay on an EU based server in particular, hopefully some other voices will chime in to let you know where the events are happening elsewhere. Best of luck!
  14. I've already got my sights set on making contact with them; thank you! Of course, it never hurts to reach further afield to see if this is a hook that might have appeal to someone else who catches it.
  15. Greetings, all! This is a very specific kind of connection I'm looking for, so please bear with me: There is a character I'm looking to develop/return with a pre-existing background that will put them statically in Ishgard for the foreseeable future. Within this background, I'm really hoping to find an RPer/RPers with characters who meet the following criteria: EITHER Members of a minor noble house allied specifically with House Haillenarte who would be interested in having a Hyuran player-character slotted into their house to serve as a maidservant or a talented healer OR Members of an Ishgardian-based collective of healers/chirurugeons who would be 'forced' to take on a Hyuran player character into their employ by decree/influence of House Haillenarte The hitch is that I'm ideally looking for players who are in EU primetime who fit one of the two above criteria, as I'm also EU based. The character involved in this connection will be an alt, but one for which I am looking to invest time and significant character development. I am open to relocating the alt to another FC as well in order to facilitate the connection. Additionally, I am open to discussing ways to work around the alignment to House Haillenarte if you are based on EU time! With the greater background of the character, it is the House that makes the most sense to be involved in the plot, but for the sake of being able to RP in my timezone, I'm open to finding a workaround! If any of this sounds of interest to you, please send me a message or a reply to the thread, and I will be more than happy to discuss the character concept with you at greater length to see if we might be a good fit!
  16. Hello, everyone! Just a friendly reminder that Rendezvous opens its doors for RP merriment today at 3pm CST / 4pm EST / 9pm BST! We're looking forward to doing our best to put on a great event for you all, and we'd love to see you there!
  17. A video of the fireworks! Now I'm truly flattered! Thank you to everyone who made this a great opening of the Host Club - and special thanks to Anstarra, Freya, and Kosetsu who came together on rather short notice to work to put together the fireworks display for you tonight! Never underestimate the power of macros.
  18. I've been using http://www.memrise.com/user/jlptbootcamp/courses/teaching/ His N4 courses to study, he also has an amazing blog that hosts numerous bits of information. His study material does everything from the basics to the very advanced so I try to recommend him where ever I can. I used to (in 1.0) play on Sarganates, and had a similar experience where I realized I wanted something outside the mechanical challenges to interact with. Though I had the same series of events happen in WoW so I sometimes wonder how I managed to surprise myself. Dang, the N2 course looks hyooj. (That's a technical term.) I currently work with iKnow for my vocabulary, but since passing the N3 last year I've been lax. Yet I know the leap up to N2 is quite high. Thanks for the link! I'm gonna check this out in my downtime. Thank you, Val! I thought it would be a possible ice breaker to try, so I'm glad you caught it and that it worked somewhat! I'll keep an eye out for you in game; thanks for the warm welcome!
  19. Thank you very much for the welcome, Olofantur! Unfortunately, I actually don't speak any French; I just realized a bunch of folks roleplaying in French on my old server. Couldn't quite get them to jump in and play with me using auto-translate, unfortunately, but... c'est la vie. (Oh look, a little pun!) I think seeing it around me but not being able to participate made me realize I was still missing it terribly, which is what made me want to migrate. Now, a Japanese speaking LS, on the other hand, open to non-native speakers who've only passed the JLPT N3... that would be a find and a half (even though that has nothing to do with RP. I can dream.). That's brilliant! I'll be keeping an eye out tonight then. Thank you very kindly! :moogle:
  20. Thanks very much, Rinh! *high five for the ex-pats!* I was looking at Europa's recruitment post earlier, actually! Sounds like just the kind of place I'd want to have access to, but the post said it was full up? Is this still the case? I'm a little concerned about being placed into an overflow LS, as I might be missing out on the majority of folks looking for RP.
  21. Salutation and welcoming message! Expression of my joy at being present. Explanation of my past play experience. Questions about relevant matters. Optimistic wish at what the future will bring. Closing remark. (And apologies to DaVinci's Notebook.) Greetings, fellow RPers! I'm a recent transfer from Ragnarok (EU) who decided to move while the moving was good to Balmung - and I was lucky enough to convince my Free Company to come along with me. I'm delighted to be back; I was originally on Besaid, then Balmung in 1.0, but decided to move to Ragnarok prior to launch as I now live in Europe. Turns out that wasn't such a good idea, because I missed RP way too much. (Although, interesting fact: if you speak French, Ragnarok is the place to be for RP!) To that end, I'm really keen to find a Linkshell or two where I can put some roots down. I'm tied to my FC for OOC content, but am very eager to get involved in some stories and make IC and OOC friends! I'm a pretty avid RPer - started off in mIRC chatrooms as a teenager in the late 90s and have been playing in every online game I've been in since: including FFXI. I'd probably flood the introduction if I listed all the MMOs/games in which I played. For FFXIV, I'll be playing Reinette Aurifont - a Wildwood Elezen swordswoman with a sense of self-discipline, a lot of loyalty to Ul'dah, and a deep regret over the events of five years ago. She's a relatively new creation; I made use of a Fantasia potion before moving over as I wanted a fresh start. I'm hoping to expand and grow her story more organically through the game rather than hammering out a big back story as I've been wont to do in the past. I've had a look through the FC/LS lists on Balmung so far, but as I've said, my own circumstances only allow me to join LSes at present, and I've been having some trouble separating them out. Some guidance on this would be particularly helpful! A little bit about me personally: I'm an American ex-pat living in the UK, just under 30, and working as an office admin for a rental car company. In my spare time, I burn food, read books, learn piano, and slave myself to Netflix. Oh, and I play FFXIV. Nice to meet you all, and I look forward to seeing you out there!
  22. Oof! Next-gen game, so I'm not surprised. I remember two or so years ago when I bought my GeForce 8600 GTS, and I was so utterly pleased that I had such a nice video card. And the alpha's looking for an 8800 minimum? Optimization will likely bring that down, especially cause it's a small(ish) step down. Maybe. I hope? Thanks for sharing!
  23. As I never, ever played a Mithra or Taru in FFXI, I will definitely be playing either a Miqo'te Keeper of the Moon or (Female) Lalafell Dunesfolk. And to add to the chorus of "I want more lore before deciding a starting city..." I want more lore before deciding a starting city.
