1. This gets really, really hard to explain without spoilers. But the very vague tl;dr of it is "The Elementals saw the Ala Mhigans as a threat when they came flocking in". Ala Mhigans weren't aware that the Elementals would start throwing a fit. Be mindful that going to the Shroud was the most direct route to flee trough. A great deal of Ala Mhigo's history is build around the fact they are the only land connection between Eorzea and Ilsabard. It was either flee to the Shroud, or into Ilsabard. And Ilsabard is held by the Garleans. So yeah uh... Choice was easily made for them. The wall was 'only' raised 5 years ago. Garlean oppression was already going on for give or take 15 years. Aaaaand before that they had issues as well what could make people flee for certain, although they weren't running in masses like they did with the Garleans. I don't know if you see the history of Ala Mhigo as a spoiler, or just the MSQ, so I'm not going to say more here.
2. Yes, anything but au ra have been confirmed to live in Gyr Abania. Ala Mhigans have conjurers. Shamans even. So you don't even need to go to the Conjurer's guild to learn it. I wouldn't heed attention to people's opinions. If you want to roleplay an Ala Mhigan? Go for it! Just roll with whatever you think you will enjoy. However I'm going to point one thing out, if you're going to roleplay, people will discuss the SB events sooner or later IC. So you may want to keep an eye out that you aren't going to stab yourself in the foot, because you may end up having a very limited interaction with people. o/
3. While I'm not really wellversed in Miqo'te lore, might help to look into Sounsyy's Compilation! They wrote a lot of information down regarding all the races, so it may help you to get on the right path. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=17897 As far as I've understood is that Male Keepers just wander as soon they become of age, visit their women, and leave again. Tia's on the other hand are seen to just help the tribe out. Finding a legit Nunh RPer might be very hard. I don't think I know of any Seeker Tribes being actively roleplayed with a Nunh/Tia dynamic in their group. Although there might be some? I just don't know any of on Balmung (then again, I don't really have much Miqo'te I RP with). My old Miqo'te was a Keeper, because well, he was a mercenary, and he didn't feel like poaching the land any more after the Woodwailers beat him around for it. He'd still bugger off from time to time to go visit the women in the Shroud, and he still generally stayed around the Shroud as a whole. But seeming he was just an alt, I could make it work easily with him still being so much in the Shroud and bouncing between groups of women. (Gods that sounds so awful when I write it like that lol.) As for the day/night thing... with the cycle going so quickly ingame, I sort of always ignore what time of the day it is in roleplay, unless someone state it IC. So I wouldn't be too worried about that.

Who: Anyone who wishes to pay their respects to the Ala Mhigans who perished beyond the borders of Gyr Abania. You don’t have to be Ala Mhigan to join us!! When: Sunday, August 6 - 5:00 PM EST Where: The Lochs - Click for Map - X22.6 Y5.8 Instance: Instance 2 Contact: Avelyn Firestone It is custom for a person to bring an object who formerly belonged to the deceased, such as a sword, with them and leave them at the cenotaph. Food also seems to be placed at graves, tombs and the like, so this is certainly an option as well if your character does not have an item left belonging formerly to their loved one. Or if they simply wish to show their respect to those who have died abroad. But! Just observing is completely acceptable as well. It’s worth of note that there’s vaguely being hinted at that the Ala Mhigans believe that the deceased can hear what is being said there. If your character wishes to say some words publicly regarding their loved one who perished abroad, please contact Avelyn Firestone, or contact us through Tumblr. We’d love to see people helping us out promoting Ala Mhigan culture, tradition and religion after all! We hope to see you there. May Rhalgr guide your path.

7. If it was a Calamity, be rest assured, that every NPC under the sun would be talking about it.
8. And trying to take their characters into custody without their consent wasn't godmodding to begin with? They had all the right to just leave that roleplay. That wasn't godmodding, that was simply leaving the scene because they were not okay with what you were doing in the first place.
9. Management Update #13 With Stormblood being released for a little while now, and with most people in the linkshell having finished up their MSQ, we are happy to see roleplay is slowly picking up in Gyr Abania! With that we like to announce that we will be opening our recruitment within the coming couple of days! So please stay tuned for a couple of days longer, and we will provide you with all the information onto how to join our merry band of Ala Mhigans and friends. ~ The Management
10. Uh, as far as we know, Gyr Abania was never highlander exclusive, just the majority?
11. It's either people find workarounds or everyone exclusively RPs middle-aged Ala Mhigans or the students of middle-aged Ala Mhigans, so I can forgive people glossing over such things in the interest of variety/creativity, especially when it's been established that it's a magical tradition that doesn't require anything beyond a way of finding the knowledge to learn. I can understand that. It's just not my cup of tea to go looking for loopholes while you got the obvious answer right in front of you (as you pointed out in your post above). But I think it comes down, once more, to preferences of roleplay. I wouldn't go claiming one is more creative than the other. I find it very uncreative to go seeking loopholes, while you have lore to work with, while others applaud trying to scrape ideas by to find a way to prevent themselves for having to be an older Ala Mhigan/find an older (NPC) Ala Mhigan teacher.
12. Okay but, how believable is it going to be your character just happen to stumble onto one there? I'm just not a fan of that type of roleplay. Nor do I like the Grand Theft Glubal Library for player characters. But I guess that's a difference in taste of RP :L
13. Aye, don't think that's too far fetched from what I've read so far. It just seems to me a bit far-fetched to find super detailed tomes just casually laying around for the grabbing.
14. Eeeeh. I'd be careful with that until stated otherwise. The King of Ruin was very successful about burning the Monk's scriptures and scrolls down to the ground as well.
15. So let me get this right, RDM basically gets the Monk treatment? You either RP the Chosen One by finding an older Red Mage to train you, or you are an 'older' Ala Mhigan who was trained back in the days?
16. I have no idea how it is on Coeurl. I would surprise me if there was any. I'd suggest seeking out contact with people over at Mateus! Roleplay seems to be flourishing there as well these days. I'd be afraid if you do not, you might end up being severely disappointed by the non-existent roleplay community on your server, and perhaps in the roleplay community on FFXIV as a whole due to it. Best of luck!
17. Not illegal, because it taps from their own reserves and not from the world itself, therefore it's no danger towards everyone!
18. Resistance Chocobo Cosplay Do you want your own Resistance look-alike chocobo? Are you willing to invest time, gil and effort into it? But you simply have no clue how to achieve this? Worry not! With these two simple steps, you too can have your very own Ala Mhigan chocobo! Dye your chocobo Plum Purple by feeding it at a stable. If you did not unlock chocobo raising yet, you will need do the Questline ‘Bird in Hand’ in order to do such. The ‘FFXIV Chocobo’ site is an excellent resource to help you out with this. Make sure to click on the ‘View Feeding Order’ button as well, so you do not end up with a completely different coloured chocobo! Keep in mind while the site cannot guarantee that your chocobo will have the perfect colour on the first try. Acquire the Ala Mhigan barding by participating in the ‘Rattle And Humbaba’ (68) Fate in the Peaks. ‘Mouth for Water’ is the Fate which starts the chain! Thankfully the chain only exists out of two parts. While we cannot state for certain, you probably need a gold participation medal in order to be rewarded with the Ala Mhigan barding. It spawns near Ala Ghiri. Despite all this your chocobo will still have the height of what Square Enix assigned to your character. So unless you’re a Roegadyn, there’s a good chance your chocobo will still be (somewhat) shorter compared to the NPC ones. Hope this was helpful for those interested! ~ The Management
19. There's more Fist of Rhalgr surviving, they just appear to be in hiding (I suspect them to come out and riot next patch though. Crossing my fingers). They continue to state that during the questlines several times over and over. So I'd... not go the route of going "Well, my character was trained by the last surviving nobility of Ala Mhigo", because eh, while no one will stop you, I think some random, made up older Monk NPC might be a lot less... controversial. Or you could just avoid the problem all together, and for an older Fist who simply was at one of the 4843743874873 temples they had. Besides, I personally find older Fist a lot more believable due to the fact they had to endure an absurd training from childhood on. Your character will simply have lacked the community, temples, scriptures ect ect. So they are unlikely to be on par with the Monks who were trained from childhood to adulthood back in Gyr Abania's temple. (Plus you get to roleplay all that delicious drama and conflict regarding the purge of your Brother and Sisters, the resentment, guilt, anger. WHY YOU WANT TO MISS OUT ON THE BEST PART I STILL DON'T KNOW? Older Ala Mhigans are so much more interesting to me in general. Because all the super interesting lore and events happened around the King of Ruin. Anyhow...) But each to their own! I'd still suggest not going with the quest NPC, due to your character well... being close to a pretty important NPC. Just make sure that you read up about Monks, as they are still very much indeed simply Rhalgr's priests. Who can kick you in the face. No really, there's quite a few 'guidelines' with Monks, in terms of what you cannot and can wear, whether you can have a soulstone ect yadayada. Heresy still be a real thing for them after all!
20. I simply let my merchant character attend server events such as the Sea Breeze Bazaar ect. That's how I get most of her roleplay! That said, I exclusively only deal with imaginary goods and gil. It's the roleplay I care about after all.
21. One thing what left me wondering with Qestir though... Do they interact that much with other tribes, that they end up understanding the Xaela tongue? Because I can't imagine them teaching their children how to speak? Like, can they even speak properly, or would their speech be very broken due to this? So many questions :l
22. Toss me a PM in game on either Helena Bloodbinder, or Avelyn Firestone (I tend to bounce between the two) and we can try to work something out!
23. Heya! While I'd sadly enough cannot offer my main, as my older cranky Fist will flip her shit instantly about a non-Fist claiming to be Rhalgr's priest and start to scream heresy and all that attached to that in a heartbeat, I can offer out my alt out instead! Seeming she's like a young social outcast who didn't really grow up with the culture pre-conquest of Ala Mhigo! While she will be confused, she won't go screaming that's an insult to her dead order, unlike my main. In fact, she'd probably just be confused for the rest of the conversation if she finds out. And probably go ask people if she missed something vital about Fists being witches now! Only drawback with my alt though, and it's completely fine if you'd rather shy away roleplaying with her, if you don't like these characters, is that she's a half-Garlean half-Ala Mhigan offspring. I made her a small Google Docs document I've been working on, before I end up making her wiki page. It's really barebones though. In any case, her tl: dr is: unhappy union between pureblood and Ala Mhigan woman, woman got chased out by Garleans and Ala Mhigans both with her baby, sort of lived all over the place in Gyr Abania. Helena in turn anxious of everything due to run ins with people being racist towards her to various degrees. (That said, as the player, I don't mind people being vile towards her, that's an option as well!) In any case, Helena might not be the character for you, as I know some people don't enjoy the topics attached what comes with most Ala Mhigan Garlean/Highlander offsprings. Best of luck finding people to roleplay with o/
