The Importance of Consolidating RP on Balmung and Having One RP Hub
Virella replied to Sig's topic in RP Discussion
I'm all for another roleplay community, however I'm still going to stress on the fact people need to be given a choice which one they prefer. At this current point and time, they do not. That needs to be addressed, provided this lock last for months on end. It might not though! Hopefully. -
Is it still racism if my highlander hates most midlander men? Or is that just sexism now? But yeah. Racism is a thing. Eorzea doesn't like interracial couples. The couple in the Wanderer's Palace (Hard) quest, a highlander and a Miqo'te if my memory servers me well, is an example from it (even if people like to believe somehow that it's because of them being gay. That's very dumb, because guess what? Being gay is okay in Eorzea. But that's another topic, so I will drop it here). Hilda is an example of it. Those couples, and their offspring if possible, is not an expectable thing in most societies. Things may be different in the bigger cities though we know the Ul'dah alchemist class trainer who is a hyur who was with a miqo'te and no one seemed to care. But in Ishgard for example, it's not. Unless Aymeric also magically fixed the racism there. Just like, you know, fixing the whole dragonsong war and people being okay with dragons in a few months. But whatever. In any case, Hilda's mother did get banished to a shitty life in the Brume together with her half-elezen/half-midlander daughter.

If SE was to designate an RP server, would you move?
Virella replied to ExAtomos's topic in RP Discussion
Mind you, I think despite those events being massively popular, I think the silent majority really doesn't like those big events. Not because they aren't fun, but just due to chatspam! Heck, I avoid bigger events these days due to it myself as well. So while, yeah, awesome those houses are that full! BUT. I won't go take those as an indicator on how many roleplayers we really have. -
Succubi are body snatchers to some degree (just bodies of dead women as far as we know), we know that voidsent are capable of making them look like regular beings trough glamour magic I believe. But I don't really have anything to add either!

Oh god, no. I don't want them to slap RP tag on Balmung. Ever. -

"Server tagged for RP would invite the RP police". People with standards get accused on that on Balmung on the time, so it wouldn't make any difference Blizzard didn't give a fuck about what quality of RP people had. As long you weren't harassing people over it. Aka stay the fuck away from Tumblr~ -

Given that WoW seems to have completely failed in enforcing that, I severely doubt SE would be able to. I'd rather stay on a server with my friends where I can speak freely if wanted. They actually do throw the ban hammer quite hard on people who harassed roleplayers. Only places it was questionable was RP-PvP server due to you technically signing up for PvP as well. That said, they were a lot better about it in Vanilla/TBC. After that Activision came in, and rip caring about roleplayers. Speaking freely? Dude. DUDE. C'mon. Don't you think we had some places to trashtalk OOC in public? Of course we do. Mostly trade district with the Market Boards were n1 spot, and later we got the Meme Roof. But that was all out of direct sight of RPers and didn't interfere with their roleplay. And if people were passing trough the trade district IC, no one would kick up a stink and go "Ew gross RPers." either. It was nice. But the harassment thing? We sort of have this on Balmung aren't don't we? GM's aren't overly impressed with non-RPers harassing the shit out of RPers. Blizzard just added a clause specially for RPers, whereas I imagine with SE it just falls under "Don't harass people for enjoying x". (I also honestly think you were trying to quote the /s and /yell thing and not so much the harassment clause, but I can't imagine you vouching for "LETS HARASS PEOPLE I DONT LIKE RPING LEL".) -

Virella replied to ExAtomos's topic in RP Discussion
I'd move. If I kept my assets and gil. Of course, I'd gauge if my friends were going, but if SE just did the minimal rules WoW had for RP servers? I'd be game. Considering they actually enforce it as well. That said, I don't get why people think PvE/PvP people wouldn't transfer to RP servers. I had plenty of non-RP friends. They just liked seeing the RP. They liked the immersive names. They liked the stories people had to tell. The art people had to show. They just didn't RP. They might lurk on RP events at best, but they just be doing their own thing. And that was fine with me. Not everyone hates us, really. And honestly? If my friend groups end up being split? I'd transfer off one of my max level chars at least. -
And then everyone pays transfer money to end up on the right server with friends! More dollah dollah.
-
Drama will follow wherever roleplayers go though. That's sort of the circle of life for MMO RP.

It's possible, but that's been something that was talked about/wanted for well over a year. It's entirely possible that they may listen, but expecting them to I think is where people's fallacy lies. There should never, ever be an in-all plan. If anything, hope they listen, but plan for a secondary course of action in case they don't. EDIT: And like Nodem just mentioned above, they'd make everyone transfer and I highly doubt they'd transfer housing over. So people would lose/stand to lose their stuff if they don't jump on it immediately. That's the thing though, they need to handle it delicately. If there was an official RP server released? I'd very most likely head there. Especially if Balmung remained locked. Mostly because unlike what we are trying to achieve here by shouting were to go, people will probably, highly likely, still be shattered all over the place and nothing will come of it. I feel if they released a RP server, people would slowly start coming over there. With those tiny self proclaimed servers? Not so much. Ultimately I also feel, while everyone is trying to make Balmung the boogieman, trying to throw the burden onto the roleplayers here, those small communities should step up. And some have! But they also should decide were to redirect people to. Because I feel it would be lot better to redirect people to one server instead of six. But us Balmung people? We aren't on those small communities. How can we tell what's better? I only had experience with one EU one, and I didn't like it. People were friendly, but it wasn't what I wanted.

We convinced them to add the RP tag. That was nothing compared to the uproar being caused now. They may just listen.

discussion An EU server, for EU roleplayers *UPDATED 14/06*

I'm sorry to hear that, that's awful. Hope SE can still tweak it a bit. Not sure if a VPN would work, for me it did little. -
discussion An EU server, for EU roleplayers *UPDATED 14/06*
Virella replied to Swanmay's topic in RP Discussion
You are a NA player and can do both RP and PvE easily. EU players can't do both due to one little thing called LATENCY. I personally refuse to pay a monthly sub just for RP as I can't do anything other than that after the server move. EU server should be established. And that is the difference between any former attempt and this one. We are forced to do this by a little fact that we can't play the game like we used to. Unless you're in a slav country, what may be possible, your ping should be around 170-180? That's what I heard from most Dutch, Danish, Belgium German, UK and French people so far. But if you are one of the few people severely affect, my apologies to you, because that sucks. As far as I know, none of my immediate EU friends and acquaintances had to quit the game due to, you know lag currently. I might be wrong and you may be one of them. But the majority of my EU friends didn't really notice the difference. I do really think it is for the best RPs stick together, as much as I'd like to see an EU community, I don't think it's realistic. -

Virella replied to Swanmay's topic in RP Discussion
Been on Cerberus myself, can vouch it was there, however it was slice of life themed roleplay with a handful of people. Not my piece of cake, at all. There's a reason why I made an alt on Balmung at the time and didn't bother to RP there. Unless the server community attitude changed, I won't tell people to go there. I really felt awkward roleplaying there. Like. Really. Besides, its locked often as well what I've been told by my old friends there. So no, I can't vouch for that server. I had a very fun time there as a raider, but if I was forced to go there for roleplay? I'd just given up on RP on FFXIV all together. -
The thing is though, I see people screaming "YOU need to invest in this." That is absurd. Yes, people are willingly to help, but let's be very realistic here. We like Balmung for what it is. Lots of people struggle to roleplay alts. Have no interests in creating alts. Instead of sitting on some high horse going "YOU NEED TO BECOME A PART OF THAT COMMUNITY. YOU BUNCH OF PRICKS REEEE." you could also go: "Hey this sucks, but if you are capable? Please make an alt to join in RP on the other server! If not? At least please tell people about Mateus (for example) as an alternative?" I honestly have no desire to make another alt at this point, invest into it and all that. I like where I am (fuck me right for admitting that). But I want others, new players, and old alike interested in roleplay, to have a chance at that same comfort Balmung provides. Yes there are people who enjoy smaller roleplay communities. But this is a choice they've made in the past. New people? They don't have that choice. That is what gets me. But I will point new roleplayers towards other servers, and continue to try to make SE aware that us roleplayers do want Balmung reopened for various reasons, provided their temporary lock isn't so temporary.
-
There, the OF version for you.
-
Quite so, because a lot of roleplayers, including myself, like big communities. New blood might just not be joining the game due to Balmung being locked. Whereas I agree it would be nice to have another server, or even a smaller one, for people who enjoy smaller communities, it doesn't take away the majority of (new) roleplayers want to join the big hubs, or else just... not join the game at all. If I were to come to this game purely for roleplay, I'd never continued if Balmung was locked. Just because we are safe and well on Balmung doesn't mean we shouldn't try to stress to SE that this is of importance to our roleplay community that it doesn't remain locked. Like it or not and even if people might not care about new people joining us, we need a heap of various types of roleplayers to fuel the community with new ideas, stories and what not. People also somehow seem to think because we all are roleplayers we like roleplaying with one another on top of that. As we all know, that's really not the case. I'd claw my eyes out if I were forced onto a server with a heap of fanon NPC rpers, and that being the only roleplay available. Anyhow... They really will need to come up with a better long term solution, in case they will use the 'temporary' lock as a not so temporary one.
-
Don't think people mind the temporary lock. Personally? I completely understand and don't mind at all. However if it proves to be lasting for longer then just a couple of months... That's what my worry is. What seems to be a common misconception though... they did NOT lock transfer to Balmung with Heavensward. I transferred my main to Balmung on the... second day of the Heavenward expansion (early access). I just had hit AST 50 on Ceberus EU, said my goodbyes to my old FC and levelled 50-60 with my friend on Balmung after transferring. Anyhow. My issue would be if they locked it for longer then just a couple of months. But hopefully 1-2 months after Stormblood, it will open again. Who knows!

I think it is due to Astrologians being insanely powerful they do not want Eorzeans, these days, to gain access to it. Next to that, I can see in their eyes little gain for them to teach that type of knowledge to outsiders. Astrologians, even if roleplayers tend to just see them (and roleplay them) as cutesy fortune-tellers, are well. Time mages to some degree. Think they are more preventive at this point to prevent more damage being done by the Eorzeans, especially when people could start manipulating fates and damaging themselves, if not people around them in the long run. Eorzeans aren't the brightest of the bunch to be found. Perhaps they don't have qualms with minor things, or preventing issues on a larger scale, but teaching the average Eorzean potentially extremely dangerous magic after all what happened? They are not so okay with that (any more). We also don't know if Matoya told the rest of the Sharlayans about this. For all we know she was instructed not to, but gone ahead anyhow due to personal reasons. Because the Warrior of Wildly Unlikely Exceptions of Light. The other Sharlayans may not be aware of what happened there. I think it still very much depends on what and why for Sharlayans, given from what we've seen, yes. If it is relatively harmless and they can gain knowledge out of it themselves? They are probably a lot more lenient. Just restricted things they do not want shared. And beyond Astrologian magic, we don't know what that is. Anyhow, going to stop posting here, seeming I don't want to derail the thread. If you want to continue this discussion, feel free to make another thread on it!
-
As far as we know the Sharlayan Scions aren't actively teaching people though. The Astrologian quest revolves around the fact that this NPC in particular is very insistent about it, despite Sharlayan's wishes that she would not. I don't think Sharlayans have an issue with their countrymen and women travelling. Far from I imagine. The more knowledge gained the better. They just appear to draw the line at actively sharing knowledge they possess. Still curious to see how she managed to get her hands onto it though. For all we know it is a lost art stored by the Sharlayans. Then again, she vanished for quite a while in the MSQ. So well uh. Who knows?

It had one after HW release. People found ways around them and ultimately doesn't solve the over-population issue. It still wouldn't hurt to keep it, if that fixes some server issues x_X

Management Update #N10! Due to the lack of concrete lore on what is going on with the Resistance, until Stormblood releases we will be at an halt! Some minor change will come up in the coming weeks though. Once Stormblood is released, we will pick up our events again in the coming weeks after. Stay tuned and thank you all for your patience. ~ The Management.

Given Mateus has been going on for nearly-- 4-7 months now?? I think you already are. I'm curious how many people there are though. If you know the majority, I'd still say it's not... what people are looking for.

Got to love delusional people on the OF. "Why not start another RP server." "You can just try to make one." It has been tried and it failed before. But alas, don't let people hear about Gilgamesh. I honestly wish it was realistic to start another RP server, and I support any attempt. But I'm cynical about the situation for a heap of reasons. I hope I'm proven wrong though!
