I don't mind the IC consequences of the choices I make for the character. I am mostly concerned with OOC consequences of those decisions. Since I am unfamiliar with the lore, I do not want to inadvertently set myself up with a story/character that is going to be shunned by reputable RPers and RP circles. I am sufficiently spoiled by past associations with excellent RPers that had rather strict ideals. While I do not wish to be so 'elite' in attitude, I do want to create a character/story that is acceptable in such circles, whether I frequent them or not. In the end, once I am more versed in the lore, I still want to have a character/story that I am still satisfied with as I tend to hold myself to that 'elite' ideal. Hope that all made sense without sounding snobbish!

The ears/tail body language was something I have wanted to do and in some of my writings have done so. Her ears flick as she catches sounds and focuses on them, tail swishing as she sights prey, etc. I had also planned on playing that agility card quite heavily, not just a Miqo'te but her as an individual having exceptional agility. As for the mix, I'm not sure if I'll just rename her and have her as a Keeper... but I kinda like her Seeker name! If I go with the mix, I had planned on her childhood being very uncomfortable. In my mind she was shunned and picked on, something that actually made her a stronger person in the end and fostered her independent nature. My thought was to have her raised as a Seeker but she's very heavily Keeper looking. Perhaps, as you say, the genes skipped a generation... she would have been known to be the child of Seekers but of obvious mixed blood, making her both more accepted because of her parentage but still shunned and picked on because of her obvious Keeper genes. Not sure if it's worth it in the end. May just have to get the name change. Regardless of what I do, I do not plan on playing her as -very- traditional as I don't really want to RP in a clan or anything. She is an adventurer, a Ranger and very skilled at what she does.

So, I've been to the wiki and found a little bit of info on the Miqo'te race. I just have a few questions but cannot find the info I'm looking for so I'm hoping the folks here will have some answers or can point out some resources. I'm also very fuzzy on the lore in general as I completely new to the FF world. I've done the main questline up to my level of 25 but I find it difficult to follow because of all the other things going on. I have a bit of a learning disability and find it hard to sift through information and focus on the pertinent events/story. I kind of need the CliffsNotes guide! For now, I just want some info specifically on the Miqo'te race. I was thinking to RP my character as having mixed heritage of Keeper and Seeker.... mostly because in game she is a Keeper but is named like a Seeker. Is this too 'special snowflake' of me? I can certainly pay for a name change when I get paid if it's something that is going to warn reputable RPers away. What is the average life-span of the Miqo'te? Do they have fur or normal skin? Like the tails are obviously furred but the rest of the body appears in game to be smooth skinned.... how do you guys RP them? In my mind they're somewhat in between, not smooth skinned but having a very fine fur on most their body. It just seems odd to have a furred tail but not body.

I've just started myself but I see RP all over the place. A bit timid about jumping in just yet as I like to have a bit of an idea of my character first. Well said. I always cry a little when I see threads like this. Not to be an a hole, but it's best to build your relationships in-character. It's funnier that way This is opinion and everyone has a different one. We all think our own opinion is the right one but that doesn't make us right. I can see both sides and have, in fact, been on both sides with both positive and negative results. The fact is, both can be fun if you find the right person! Just cause you find someone OOCly doesn't mean it's going to work ICly. The person met ICly could prove incompatible with you and lead to issues down the road. I can't make my character fall in love with another character... when I play her, she has her own opinions and it doesn't matter what I think of the person playing the other character. So for me, I have to find both a player and a character that I can work with. Good luck.

Oooo... some of these shots are great! I haven't been in the game long enough to even find some of these spots. Now I shall keep a lookout for not only the places but perhaps the faces there abouts.

Wow... I just have to say, thanks for the warm welcome. Many of you have posted here and a few have contactacted me in game, which is amazing! Thanks to those who have grouped with me and run me through dungeons and showed me the ropes. Thanks to those who have let me bounce RP ideas for my chaacter off ya, given advice, and listened to my meandering thoughts. I am still torn between keeping my Miqo'te and changing her to Elezen. Whoever she is she'll be the 'Ranger' type and that seems to fit a little better with the Elezen. That and I always do like to have a bit of romance mixed in my advernturer's life. From what I read of the Miqo'te, a monagamous relationship seems unlikely in their culture. While it's not the focus of my RP, I like to have the option. Though I know little of the lore, I like to abide by it so, it should be reasonable for the character for the setting. I don't know, am I over thinking it? Also, are there any more resources out there on the specifics of the races? The wiki and enix stff seems very general. Not finding anything on life spans, age of adulthood, that sort of thing. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Med/Heavy, non-elitist Views on RP combat and injuries: I love RP combat, whether against another player or an npc'd 'boss'. I prefer rolls, especially if connected to a good RP Combat System/Char Sheet. I can't stand godmoders so rolls tend to be more fair... unless the RNG gods are being jerks. Freeform works as well for friends and guild mates. As for injury, that's expected at some point. No death, dismemberment/maiming, or disfigurement, unless discussed and agreed upon prior to engagement. Views on IC romance: Desired but with a couple clarifications: 1) Any relationship would have to be completely organic and follow a natural progression. 2) 'Romance' is not synonymous with 'ERP'. *Please note that romance is only a small, if important, part of my adventurer's life. Any romance prospect would first have to be a friend and kindred spirit, sharing the same thirst for adventure and ethos as she does. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): I've never had a player played IC relative and would be very open to this. Views on lore: Lore abiding and prefer to RP with others of the same mindset. That said I don't mind those that are creative and can bend lore without breaking it, but it has to be in a believable way for the world. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Always IC in IC channels. Detest OOC on IC channels. Almost never IC in Whispers... unless my character emotes whispering to another. III. I've been looking but not found a lot on the Miqo'te lore. Just some brief things but I need to get a handle on it so I can figure out where my gal comes from. For me, I need to nail those things down before I can really participate in RP. Anyone with some good resources for the Miqo'te lore, I'd love some help! Right now she's a Seeker of the Sun, and I think, named appropriately. Something else I've noticed is 'linkshell,' 'free company,' and the more familiar word 'guild'. Are these things the same? I'm a bit lost tbh. Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I've been checking out the resources as time allows. Leveling is my least favorite activity but have been trying to work on that a little as well. See you all in game.... soon as I figure out how to actually get anywhere.

Ah, I see. Did not know what a linkshell was. I will definitely check that out. I am very -not- fond of bar RP and would rather find something more... adventurous. Is there much RP out in the world? I have to admit I haven't checked out events... really haven't played much at all. Looking forward to it though!

Hey folks! As the title says, I'm new to the FFXIV world... new to anything FF actually so, I'm the newbiest of noobs when it comes to the game or lore. I rolled a little Miqo'te female, on Balmung (you don't want to know how long it took to pull -that- off). She's an Archer though I also picked up Conjurer since I almost always play a Ranger or Healer. So, yeah, I know nothing but am looking forward to learning. So far my Archer has reached level 12. Anyway, I love to RP but knowing nothing about the lore has me quite timid. ICly I always RP the Ranger archetype so I was wondering where the best places are to find RP, where I can... eavesdrop and get a feel for it here. Sticking with the Ranger type she's a loner and fairly quiet. Beyond that I've got nuthin! I am an experienced RPer, having RP'd in WoW, GW2, SWTOR, RIFT, LotRO. Hopin to meet a few people, perhaps join a guild (Free Company?), and maybe if the stars align - find a partner to both play and RP with! Look forward to meeting some of you fine folks soon!
