Hey, im from the UK and i'd totally be up for this. I was actually looking for some RP very similar to what the OP described. Count me in! Although, my character is quite heavily chaotic but in a comedic sort of way. Kind of like a comic relief character with a real stick up his arrogant arse. Could create some nice character conflict/development though amongst the party. Although i'll make sure never to go overboard or disrupt thr flow of the story. Long story short..... is that ok? - Ember :bomb:

Embree flicked through the pages as he searched for a recent news story about someone down on their luck; someone broken, weak and easy to exploit. Instead, he found something that broke him. At first uninterested in anything, the turning of the pages suddenly stopped at the article. His eyes were drawn to the photos... .....suddenly he felt hot. He didn't understand it. The world went silent around him as the pictures dominated his mind, his whole world. The words around the photographs flew about the page and transformed into a woman's curves, a woman's lips, a woman's other things.... Embree could hardly control himself. He had never been interested in women before but all of a sudden.... HE NEEDED TO FIND A RESTROOM. Embree tore out the page, dived for the nearest restroom and locked the door. Ah, youth. :love:

Being somewhat new to the Balmung RP server and quite some distance from our American cousins across the pond, i was wondering if anyone knew of any primarily British/European RP FCs on Balmung? Dear Mr Black Mage with full augmented ironworks gear, You seem to know the bard class well. You know I have a ballad that restores MP, bravo! Very useful for casters, I assure you. But did you know Mr Black Mage, that your ice stance rapidly restores your MP to maximum? In fact, it does it a whole lot faster than my mp song ever could! But of course, you know this. I mean, just look at your level! Look at your gear! So why, Mr Black Mage, have you spent this entire dungeon shouting at me to use my mp song when your mp is zero? Why have you complained that my mp regen is too slow, a mechanic completely out of my control? Why, Mr Black Mage, do you refuse to use your ice stance when the whole party is telling you to and instead opt for whacking the enemy with your stick and complaining when you cannot do a fire spell? Why, Mr Black Mage, have you demanded I owe you "Ethers 4 dis sht!" ???? For once in my life, Mr Black Mage, I REALLY hope you are a troll and you have posted your antics onto YouTube for the world to see. I'd quickly like to thank everyone who has been posting here. I started this thread only a few days ago and the feedback has been incredible. I thank you. To expand the discussion further, another point I would like to discuss is.. Has anyone had success in using an existing duty (trial 4man, 8man dungeon etc.) effectively in their RP? To keep on topic, how do you think villains and story tellers could effectively utilise these? The setting advantage is obvious. You could make great use of dungeons environments in your RP. But what about fight mechanics? While from a lore point of you there is no chance of this happening, i'd like to use a funny example from T9. What if the antagonist had somehow utilised the old power of Nael Deus Darnus or partnered with them or summoned a demon bat lady? etc. The antagonist, borrowing this power, could summon meteors to crash down on where players are standing, on purpose. Or perhaps they "Give their flesh to the Old One!" and purposefully get hit my lunar dynamo to give the boss HP Obviously this idea is ridiculous but can anyone else think of any funny ideas of fight mechanics that could be used in a RP setting?

This sounds right up my alley. It can also fit into my RP quite comfortably f you would do me the pleasure of allowing me to join? I shall contact the relevant person in game and inquire.

This was a really interesting read Mercurias! Thanks for posting it. I can totally understand from a similar, but not so similar, experience. I remember at one point i was doing basic bad guy RP in the quicksand with random PCs. Of course my character was a jerk to them but he is in fact all talk and no bite. So the person i was confronting stood up to me and therefore my PC buckled because he is a coward at heart. This is fine. Just then, some random joined up with the person opposing me. He must have been doing his noble duty to defend the weak (even though I made absolutely made sure my character was in an inferior position in the confrontation). Also fine, whatever. By the end though, I had an entire legion of good guy PCs getting involved in the quicksand, at my throat and wanting my blood. In rp I ran away yelling that "my father will hear about this!" snobby duke's brat that he is. This, in my eyes, was not ok. It demonstrates just how desperately PCs need some conflict and someone to hate in their RP seeing as EVERYONE wanted a slice of the action. Either that, or they took the golden goose opportunity to solidify themselves as a just and noble warrior of light. I completely understand that noble peace keeping heroes meeting other peace keeping heroes must make for dull RP. I mean, how is there ANY strife in the world if everyone is a bloody saint? But it shocked me just how ready everyone was to jump on an antagonist (however feeble and boyish) just because he was slightly "bad". In fact, the real monsters here are the PCs that threatened him. I made it very clear that my character was just an arrogant boy who acted tougher than he actually was. Someone who always relied on mommy and daddy. Yet these "heroes" were ready to tear out the organs of a boy who simply had an attitude problem. So to those roleplaying heroes, think before you act or you might be the monster yourself. This links to your point about gang mentality. You said it yourself, its usually 1 antagonist against a group of heroes. Very rarely is it the other way around. This demonstrates that while we do often get the worse end of the stick, antagonists of any sort are in dire need by other PCs even if they're aware of it or not. So much so that they would gut a young boy just for the excuse of having one. Surely the heroic thing to do would be to understand he's a child, inexperienced of the world and in definite trouble within the quicksand? Really, these protagonists are more blood thirsty than the villains a lot of the time. Which is probably why they godmode in your RPs so much, especially when in a group mentality.

Ok guys if you want in, post your names here and i'll try and set up some sort of group in game (join at your leisure) and i'll post here about any times or details. Although, tbh its probably best you discuss the times yourselves and I tag along. I'm British you see, tea and crumpets what what. Obvious timr difference is obvious.

No matter what I use, DF, PF, or FC buddies, I just can't seem to get the clear. I know this fight like the back of my hand now. Anyone else on Balmung in a similar situation?

If you're set on changing him, then by all means its your character, but it does make me sad to hear this. You shouldn't have to change what you want to do based on bad experiences. HOWEVER, it sounds like you're bringing a lot of aggro to your RP if it has potential to spill over like that. I would suggest instead of making him good or switching him around, find some brand new RP people to test a more toned down version of your character on. I think this is an important point to raise so i will do it here: THE TERM "GODMODDING", DOES NOT AND SHOULD NOT JUST REFER TO POWER, BATTLE AND ABILITIES. What i mean by this, is that more chaotic characters should not be godmodders in personality either. If you're brushing people off or outright abusing them; thats godmodding. If your character absolutely CANNOT be convinced of doubt even slightly or make them upset; thats godmodding. Chaotic people are exactly that; PEOPLE. They will have weakness. People should be able to shake their foundations with words as well as weapons.

UPDATE: I roleplayed as my Duke's Bratty Son character in the quicksand today and it was a huge success. The two people i roleplayed with told me it was a lot of fun and they were really intrigued by him. They even forgot about roleplaying with eachother and were both just bouncing off me. We all had a great time. That was completely spontaneous by the way, no linkshell or fc. So it can be done guys! Just find the right peeps!

You're absolutely right, no one is an archetype and thats what my opening post was addressing. It was more a question. I was asking what peoples personal experiences were when roleplaying a bad guy. By bad guy, i can mean villain, unlikeable person or anywhere in between. Im speaking VERY generally. Simply stating about characters that lean more towards chaos than lawful good, in whatever shape or form. How does the community react to your play style when you RP as one of these characters?

Wow thanks for the tips! I completely agree with everything you said. My villain backstory is so much better than my good guy one. And people really do love having an adversary of sorts. Also, not being funny, but that bit about the girls wanting to change you had me in absolute hysterics!! I think everyone here will benefit from what you said. So thank you. TO EVERYONE: Do people mind if i add you in game? Could use some like-minded villains in my friend list.

Yo Khaine, thanks for the reply. Would love it if they met up, haha. Im glad you see my point though. I will say that gang/mob mentality from good players to focus on hating my character makes it more enjoyable for them. Im happy for that as they truly have a good time showing off their strength to a villain. But it leaves us baddies with bad RP unfortunately.

This is a fair enough point. If part of a RP FC or linkshell, I think it would probably be best to establish in OOC that the villain is super overpowered. If this is all agreed by the participants, then the villain will not be godmodding. Thats the only viable way i can see that being done. Thing is, my character is just a pompous spoiled brat. He's not a villain and anyone could beat the s**t out of him. I've had some branching stories playing a bad guy of this nature, but no where near the scope as when i play a good guy. Also playing a bad guy in the quicksand with random players is almost impossible as you just come off as aggressive. Even when i /tell them that my character is bad. I do worry/wonder sometimes if other players just think im a troll or a bad player because my character acts this way. In other words, their opinion of my character spilling over into their opinion of the IRL me. Never been confirmed but just a worry i have. I'll be Aaron's villain if you want, muwhahaha.
