1. Calkrow Lyndez - 7/10 I do like the name, though I'm not entirely sure on the pronunciation of the last name. However, it doesn't sound very midlander to me, so I dropped a point for that. Kaylel Wilder - 7/10 I find the first name a bit jarring for this one, but the last name is fun and simple and could be fit into the midlander naming conventions with some creativity. Taeh Lehl - 8/10 Love the first name and surname individually, but I think they sound a little odd together. Mordelle T'Varr - 10/10 Love this name. The first name is very fitting and has a strong and pleasant sound to it. And the last name just rolls off the tongue. As for my own character, I have N'klas Tia, a male Seeker of the Sun.
2. CHARACTERS N'klas Tia - Main Race: Miqo'te, Seeker of the Sun Gender: Male Class: Arcanist, eventually Summoner Summary: He's a teenage Miqo'te and an arcanist with no formal training and only knows how to summon Carbuncle. He used to travel around with his mother, who was a bit of an explorer/archaeologist/worker of odd jobs. But when Dalamud approached 5 years ago, his mother left him with their tribe and gave him her favored gem so that Carbuncle would keep an eye on him. She then left for the battles and he hasn't seen her since. His tribe, meanwhile, was scattered by the calamity and N'klas ended up on his own in Limsa Lominsa. He joined many of the orphaned children on the streets and resorted to petty thievery to get by. Notes: Still need to figure out his personality, since I've been bouncing around between a few different concepts recently and having trouble settling. Might try and just toss him into random rp and feel him out that way. Emelin Locke - Alt / 1.0 Character Race: Hyur, Midlander Gender: Female Class: Conjurer, eventually White Mage Summary: 16-years old and incredibly immature and daydreamy, Emelin looks at life as if it were a storybook. Her family were fairly successful merchants and Emelin found her younger days often spent traveling from city to town to city with her father's caravan. She was expected to take over when she was older, but Emelin had grander dreams and wanted a life of fun and adventure. Stowing away on an airship, she finally found just that. But a life of adventure may turn out to be a bit more real than she anticipated. Notes: Emelin was my 1.0 character, though I didn't player her heavily. I'm toying with retconning her story so that she runs away at the launch of ARR instead of 5 years ago in 1.0.
3. Oh my, this is going to eat up all my free time until beta 4. First up is N'klas. He's probably going to be my main. And this is Emelin. I played her in 1.0, deleted her, remade her and I'll probably be rebooting her for ARR. No real changes here. I just played with her hair color and facial features a bit. And the last is my adorable Dunesfolk, Kaerara. I mostly played her during the beta. Not sure if I'll be playing her or Emelin much on release, but we'll see!
4. I have stuff I'm doing on Saturday, so I'm not sure if it will interfere with this. But if I'm available, I'll definitely drop in. It's always nice to stretch my character's legs.
5. Oh wow, I love these pieces. The scenery especially.
6. N'klas just wanted to be gone and away. The encounter had shaken him, though he wasn't about to admit that to anyone (and especially not some stranger). But a hand gripped his arm and the boy stopped in his tracks, casting a scowl back at the meddlesome Miqo'te. But it wasn't until the crowd began to thin out that the scene progressed, and that suited N'klas just fine. He didn't want to create another commotion, especially not so soon after the last. The other held out his hand, demanding an answer for the boy's terrible crime and N'klas couldn't hold back the ironic smirk playing on his lips. "All this trouble for some bread," he admitted, reaching into the pocket of the coat beneath the cloak and producing it. It was still warm and flaky and he tossed it towards the other without a word. "I don't know. Maybe they thought I robbed him of all his gil or something," he said with a shrug, crossing his arms. "Which I didn't." And it was so much trouble for some bread. The kid hadn't even been in this town all that long. OOC: Slow posts for a while longer. My computer has a scorched processor and the repair place had to order parts, so it may be another week before I get it back.
7. What great info! I've got a lot of reading ahead of me. Just read the thread on Miqo'te naming and I think I'm okay with N'klas' given name. Just have to change his surname to Tia, I suppose.
8. Welcome to the community!
9. Thanks for the info! I'll be interested to see just how those changes get introduced/explained in the game (if they are in the first place). Thankfully, I'm not doing anything too specific with arcanists for his background. Just focusing on the whole summoning Carbuncle as a familiar from gems thing. Assuming we can do that at low levels, I'm going to use that as a starting point to get him into studying other types of magic/abilities that encompass being an arcanist.
10. So, I've been reading around and it looks like there was an Arcanist Guild located in Limsa Lominsa that was not joinable in 1.0? Does anyone have any information about that organization gleaned from 1.0? I'm just wondering if it might give some more insight into how Arcanists might work lore-wise. I'm planning my main to be an Arcanist (I have a soft spot for any summoning-type class) and am working on his backstory and character concept...Well, as much as I can with that small blurb about them on the main website.
11. He hesitated, hearing Carbuncle's cry even as he vanished into the crowd. It was more than he had expected. Usually the familiar simply vanished into aether after a single strike, but maybe this was a sign of his own power growing stronger. It was unsettling, and the Hyur's last shout out to him had the boy grinding his teeth, half jerking back with no real idea what he was planning on doing. In that moment of brief hesitation, something did jerk him back, but it was the hand of another rather than anything under his own power. The heavy weight of fabric was tossed over him and N'klas found himself being pulled into the crowd of people, a hushed voice telling him to be still. The Miqo'te bit down on his own lip, but did as he was told, clutching the edge of what he realized now must have been the stranger's cloak. A slight warmth in his finger pulled N'klas' attention back down to his ring, where Carbuncle had returned to since his defeat at the Hyur's sword. The young Miqo'te flattened his ears and stilled his tail as best he could as the Yellow Jackets moved swiftly past, eyes peeled for the very youth they had just passed by. Being a male Miqo'te made blending in all the more difficult, but the cloak helped him out just enough. Either they didn't realize he was Miqo'te, or they just didn't have it in their heads to search for someone wrapped up in a cloak. He scanned the streets for any sign of the Hyur, but he could see no sign of the other. N'klas wasn't sure how he felt about that. He relaxed only slightly as the Yellow Jackets turned in the wrong direction and N'klas, sparing the other Miqo'te a glance, turned off in the opposite direction, taking the cloak with him. If the other wanted it back, he would just have to follow along.
12. I'm a sucker for any sort of family-based roleplay, so I'd definitely be interested in something like this, whether I'm playing a noble or a servant of some sort. Not with my main, since his background is already set and is pretty far from noble and wouldn't have any interest in being anybody's servant, but maybe with an alt at some point. But there's definitely a lot of room for this sort of concept.
13. Hi and welcome! Your Miqo'te sounds like he'll be a fun character.
14. Despite the boy and his familiar's aggressive stance, he was not a fighter. His eyes flickered from the massive Hyur, to his mace, and to Carbuncle that had leapt from the jewel to defend him. He had no weapon of his own and if the man thought he was a mage -- a real mage who could actually do something -- he was mistaken. There might have been potential once, but that was a lifetime ago. At the threat, the boy flattened his ears and took a short step back, ignoring the ache on the back of his neck or how his vision still seemed to waiver a bit. That blow to his neck was still affecting him. The Hyur lifted his mace high in the air and for a moment, N'klas stared at him, wide-eyed and confused. Wait a minute. Was he really inviting an attack just like that? It was a simple command and the Miqo'te did nothing for a moment. But whatever his options, fighting this warrior was not one of them. "Nah, you'll have to catch me first," he taunted, a sly grin gracing his features. And with an instinctive connection, Carbuncle leapt straight for the Hyur's face. N'klas took advantage of the potential distraction to turn and run, shoving his way right into the crowd that had gathered around them. He didn't have too many options in where to run just yet. Though Carbuncle was fast, the familiar was not hardy or powerful. Whatever power it N'klas unconsciously gave it was only enough to form it in this world. It wouldn't take much at all to disperse it back into aether. He was sadly untrained as an arcanist, the ring a relic from better times.
15. Hehehe, I was wondering why this suddenly got bumped. I mean, I was thinking of posting a new one since it was a little while... But what character did you have then?
16. Haha, I don't think I've seen a Miqo'te name I've confidently decided how to pronounce. I'm using Niklas as what my character goes by, but his actual birth name will probably be similarly as garbled as others.
17. That sounds amazing! Like Darkfae, I've been hearing this sort of feature promised in a bunch of mmos. Hoping to finally see it here.
18. He was too focused on weaving his way through the crowd to notice the one person trailing him silently from behind. But all it took was that short lapse in his concentration and stumbling step for his pursuer to have an opening. N'klas took the strike to the back of the neck before he even realized the Hyur was there. It wasn't strong enough to drop him entirely, but the boy was stunned a moment and stumbled forward again, hand reaching out for a nearby wall to steady himself. The Miqo'te was not smiling. He turned back towards the Hyur, ears flattened and his tail puffed up in an aggressive manner. And strangest of all was the glow from his ring , surrounding the emblazoned symbol etched into the gem's surface. It drew its power instinctively from N'klas , sensing the young Miqo'te's heightened emotions and the attack. A swirl of energy and there before him was his familiar, with a gem embedded into its forehead, head lowered, back arched, and tails just as puffed up as its young charge's. As far as N'klas was concerned, he needed nobody else. It had been just he and Carbuncle for years now. He wandered from place to place, stealing more often than not just to get by. Limsa Lominsa was only his most recent stop in a long and unending journey that went nowhere at all.
19. What a great reference! Thanks for putting this together!
20. Back and forth over his fingers, he rolled the ring as he strolled casually down through the markets of Limsa Lominsa. He enjoyed the taste of salt in the air, the hustle and bustle of the people going about their daily business. But better than anything was the smell of something freshly baked wafting over towards the Miqo’te, drawing him in. And the ring made it’s path continuously over his fingers, a nervous habit, before he curled up his hand, slipping it back onto the ring finger of his right hand just as he slipped past the stand with the fresh bread and pies. Quick as a flash, his hand slipped out and a loaf of bread slid into the satchel at the side. For about three steps, N'klas thought he’d gotten away with it, unable to stop the small grin that spread at the corner of his lips. But then his ears perked up at the rush of footsteps behind him and he shot off, one hand pressed protectively against his satchel. Someone was shouting after him, the merchant presumably, and he ducked around and behind people and stands, ears twitching at the cries of ’thief!’ and ‘get back here, kid!’ The young Miqo’te couldn’t ignore the light feeling in his chest, nearly making him laugh out loud as he swerved awkwardly past a pair heading towards him, just missing barreling into them with a stumbling twist. He enjoyed the chase just as much as he did not wish to be caught. And the boy (nearly 17 now), though a little clumsy at times, was quick on his feet. He was little more than a pale blur with his drab clothes, silvery hair and fur and skin that was just a bit darker.
21. I. Basic Info Characters: N'klas Tia, Emelin Locke (1.0 character) Primary character: N'klas Tia Free Company: Unsung Heroes Linkshells: Intermission II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): I generally classify myself as somewhere between medium and heavy. I'm heavily invested in storytelling and love creating (what I hope are) complex and interesting characters and seeing how they grow within an rp environment. I'll follow general/slightly planned storylines or I'll just go with the flow and see what happens as things go along. However, I'm not in-character 24/7. If I'm playing with people who aren't roleplayers, than I play exclusively OOC. If I'm in a mixed group, I might do some light rp. And if I'm with roleplayers and we decide to rp through whatever we're doing, I'm totally into it. Now, with that said, once I find myself with a good linkshell or group that I really enjoy roleplaying with, most of my game-time tends to end up in roleplaying. Views on RP combat and injuries: Combat certainly has its place in roleplay and I'm flexible with how it happens. I'm fine with something entirely emoted, something utlizing a pvp system, rolling dice, pre-planning the outcome, or just trusting my partner to emote it fairly with me and we'll just see where it goes. As for injuries, I'm fine with my character taking injuries as long as I get to decide if an attack lands. Suggestions are fine and I love being surprised, but I don't want someone else telling me they just cut off my character's finger. But yeah, as long as characters are roleplayed fairly within their concepts, I'm fine with whatever. Views on IC romance: I'm fine with romance and it's a fairly common part of roleplay. The one thing I just don't like seeing is when other plots are all pushed aside for something revolving entirely around romance to the point where it excludes other characters from roleplaying with whatever character is romantically involved with another. Generally, if something is getting serious, I'd prefer it to be with a character whose player I'm friendly with an trust on an OOC level, since those sorts of plots can get a bit sticky if a player confuses that OOC/IC line. I've seen it happen before and got somewhat entangled with such a situation once and it was not fun. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): I absolutely adore them. There's a whole world of relationships that can be explored and there isn't really any one type that I dislike. However, I have a particular inclination towards plots exploring family relationships. And especially parent-child relationships between two who do not have a blood connection. In fact, I'll be looking for something of a mother or father figure for Niklas once I get him going. Views on lore: I'm a strong believer in adhering to the lore, but also being creative within the boundaries of the lore and world. Of course, what those boundaries are can be rather vague, especially in a world that is, by its nature, constantly evolving with new patches/quests/expansions introducing new lore or fleshing out concepts. For my first character, I tend to have someone who is a bit more "mundane" to use to explore the world and the lore. For future characters, I might get more creative. But generally, I love seeing people explore undeveloped or untouched areas of lore (though if something is released that goes against whatever you made up, be prepared for some creative reworking ). However, unless there's some sort of precedent, I prefer it when characters don't outright break the setting or contradict established facts. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): /say and /emote: These are almost always in-character for me. The only times they wouldn't be was if somebody engaged me in a distinctly OOC fashion (asking about game mechanics or something). /party: This can be IC or OOC, depending on the needs of the group /linkshell: I really prefer that they're NOT used as a constantly open IC chat room. Nothing brings me out of my immersion faster than feeling like my character is on a 24/7 skype call and people are randomly chatting as they're running around and adventuring. However, I'm fine if the linkshell chat is considered an IC "space" (like a tavern) that we're roleplaying within while doing whatever. My preferred method, however, is when a linkshell is used as IC emergency/announcements/things to push plots. I'm not gonna call up the shell to talk about how pretty these flowers are. But if my character is cornered by Beastmen somewhere, he might send out a call for help. /free company: And I have similar feelings here as I do for linkshells. But overall, I prefer free company chat channel to be OOC. III. Other Info Country: US Timezone: EST Contact info: PM me here. If you ask, I can give my AIM as well [glow=blue]~Special announcements can be found in the posts below~[/glow]
22. Got a score of 5136/Very High on maximum with a resolution of 1680x1050 and an average framerate of 41.7, so I'm satisfied.
23. Thanks for all the welcomes! I'm gonna have to brush up on my lore, but definitely want to jump into some rp on the forums while we wait.
