How is my name not Lore Abiding? I'm tired of being told it isn't.
Seren replied to Mother's topic in Character Workshop
The name sounds beautiful. If you playing a straight tribe born Xaela, its a little bit of a stretch, but if RP wise she is meant to be a Raen, then I see no reason why there is any problem. Having being raised under the Ruby sea is that adorable tiny village makes her naming scheme make even more sense. Just because the Japanese name is a reference to a mythological figure you like doesn't mean that you can't use it. She isn't a goddess in this world. A big take away though... RP how you want to RP. No one here in this thread thinks your name is non-canon, and people are not going to shun you RP wise for it. I am sorry that your friend is being judgemental regarding your name. Someone could easily name their character Amateratsu and it be perfectly fine because... they aren't a deity in this world. However, I love the concept of a Raen from under the Ruby Sea! -
I'm curious -when- this log out will be happening. Since Balmungs queue starts so earlier, we definitely have the risk of people waiting in queue, getting kicked, just to wait in queue again if they aren't doing it in the early hours. Most of the AFKing happens in the work day, so it'd have to be then to deal with the issue.

It would have been too easy to say any of the Heavensward: Elf Boyfriend (*cough*Haurchefaunt*cough*) expansion soo... Here's my shameless confession of adoration for Nero tol Scaeva. The character is completely selfish, opportunistic, has no true loyalty, but also seems to brighten up a scene, even when he's being an antagonist. I enjoy the villains who don't die and end up in that gray area, that the heroes have no choice but to trust. He's not entirely 2 dimensional but he walks along it a little but, but its a nice simplicity when the game itself decides it needs to shank me in the feels over and over again.

Allo! Returning after a long break. Actually returned a few weeks ago but just remembered to finally come over and say hi, once again! I left awhile ago (after HW) played some other MMOs but after being gone, I came to realize I needed to toddle my way back home as small communities passed on, content wasn't enough to keep my satisfied, or the games were exhausting to keep up with. On whim redownloaded a few weeks ago and have been happy ever since, even managed two more classes to 50! I main a WHM, but just got BLM & MCH up there! Anyways, I'm Seren, I'm kind of a hermit along with a few of my partners such as Arik (the one that makes the pretty art), but am slowly trying to dip my toes into the community again. Coming from a large guild and community that had some blowouts, my partner and I have been hiding in a small corner of the world, but we eventually want to explore more! MMORPG background: Oh man, Everquest I when I was pre-teen, Aion, GW2, FFXIV, Blade and Soul, Black Desert Online RP experience +15 plus years from Ezboard sites, to chatrooms, to MMOs, to Tabletop RPGs. Character ideas/info Seren Blackbourne who I played previously, reset and revamped. I call her my magical trainwreck due to originally being trained as a Thaumaturge, with a severe lack of control of her aetherical channel flows, causing her to either generate excess aether and being mini Elsa (ice stance) or excess drain (fire) which nearly had fatal results. Insert disappointed Ul'dah Merchant family, desperate attempts to fix self, and a lot of family drama in play (those secrets to be revealed in game RP)... Seren turns up next in the Shroud studying conjury to avoid drawing her own aether. Of course, as someone who is numbed and objective due to her family's, having to learn to use her heart for things is just as difficult. A big oversimplification of her story but giving it all away up front is no fun. I enjoy the concept of associating the three base magical classes with Mind (Scholar/Summoner), Heart (Conjury), and Soul (Black Mage). Astrologian is the oddball (sorry loves!) but fits really into the concept of the third eye, as a real channeling (medium) style class. How did you learn about the coalition? I think I googled "FFXIV RP" and this is what I found. What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? (e.g. Light, medium, or heavy) I am medium to heavy, I enjoy RP a lot, though I also enjoy game aspects. However definitely more on the casual side when it comes to gaming. Fashion Fantasy is a large part of my leveling motivation. Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc.) I enjoy writings, doodling, gaming, anime (some), and tabletop RPGs. Studied to be a theater major so all my character development skills got put to use for RPGs (I'm productive in society I promise.) Netflix binges & pro-wrestling are my vices. I am easily bribed with buttery movie theater style popcorn and Pepsi. Thank you so much for reading. Any links I have up are probably very old and need redone. I just gutted my wiki article yesterday. Its amazing how you can look at work thats two years old and be horrified with your past self's writing. Time to improve~! Happy RPing to all.

One of the things that people forget is that too much magic can be a bad thing. In the conjurer's quest line there's a lot of emphasis on the idea that nature lets you heal when nature wants, and that's not all the time. Plus over use can be a problem as well. It's one of my favorite ways to play up healers honestly. Though as a healer player also, there's the counterpoint where you want to be useful and do what you're skilled to do in roleplays at the same time. I personally enjoy playing up that reality a healer has to pick and choose in roleplay when to heal to make sure nature stays happy. For actual healing, I tend to think healing spells, like cure and psychik being more 'combat' ready spells. Hammersmith covered a lot of my opinion on it. There's ways to play a healer up in ways to help their team without completely autofixing problems or being nerfed. Healing deepest parts of wounds to help keep their team stable, healing openings that will scar over to stop bleeding. Their magic giving the target an energy rush. There's a lot of balancing ways to play it.

A small, misfit group of adventurers, Nymeia's Echo is a new name on the market for sellswords and explorers for hire. Comprised entirely of outcasts, each running from truths and shadows of their respective pasts, fate has nonetheless brought them together as a ragtag family capable of achieving much more together than any one of them could alone. The group specializes in taking on miscellaneous jobs of any shape or size-- everything from relic hunting, escort missions, bodyguarding, dungeon diving, creature extermination and more. They call no place a definitive home, but instead wander from land to land seeking work and making due with whatever Nymeia sends their way next.

"Ugh I need to update my character's Wiki"
Seren replied to Berrod Armstrong's topic in RP Discussion
Not that I'm an active poster or anything... but i finally did it, I finally made a wiki page. -
I. Basic Info Characters:Seren Blackbourne - possibly alts in future. Primary character:Seren Blackbourne Linkshells:Remnant OOC and Private LS with IRL friends in game. Primary RP linkshell:none yet [*] II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Medium to Heavy, and the only reason I seem to ever motivate my leveling is for new pretty outfits for my characters wardrobe. I’ve been RPing rather lightly lately but am working on getting into the actual RPC sometime. As far as my writing style, I tend to write a lot, as I like to focus on character building and nuances to better define them. Seren can also be a little wordy at times too so that obviously doesn’t help. Views on RP combat and injuries: Talk it out first. Playing a conjurer, obviously, one of our primary talents will be healing. If you want your character’s injuries to be lasting, lets talk about it, before we even get the healing attempts. I have no issue with people wanting to stay injured, but negating healers, is sort of a pet peeve. We have one job! On combat, I’m a big advocator of talking it out before it goes down. Together scene partners in the battle can help shape beautiful stories this way. It also allows to figure out a unified outcome that doesn’t leave one player feeling bitter or underpowered. Views on IC romance: Not even going to lie, I enjoy RP romance, but situations just have to be right. Romance just has to develop naturally, over time, and with a partner I trust and mix well with. I don’t do any “insta-love-at-first-sight” type deals. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): I like all these things. Connections add to story and open one up to others. I would love to work a few of these out with people. Family is something I usually have to work out with people I’m really familiar with just due to, backstory, but otherwise I’m pretty open. Views on lore: Lore helps define a setting, and often times, is one of my favorite aspects of MMOs. In my opinion, Lore can make or break a game, RP wise or not. I like honor defined lore as much as possible, but I do like having fun with it as well. There are just things better left to headcanon sometimes when lore doesn’t have the answers. I am open to people playing what they want so long as it doesn't directly conflict with established lore. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): /say = In character speech. ((OOC denoted by double parentheses)) /em = In character actions and/or speech. ((OOC denoted by double parentheses)) /linkshell = Depends on the LS. /FC = Depends on the FC. /whisper = If I'm actively RPing with you, I will denote OOC with (()), otherwise it is likely IC if speech is in "quotations." If we are not actively RPing, it is likely OOC by default. Everything else is case by case. III. Other Info Country:United States Timezone:Central Contact info: Whispers/messages to Seren Blackbourne in game. The Great Crash of '15 - Gripes and Rants Are Going Heavensward
Seren replied to Nero's topic in FFXIV Discussion
That moment you're in queue and it says 75, only to realize it's 75 for 10 minutes. induce flashbacks to day before being in queue getting to number one, only to be kicked out of the datacenter and start all over again. +_+ edit... then, after 15 minutes it kicks you out of the datacenter. -

Oh my goodness! Thank you all for the wonderful responses to this thread as well as the links for thread discussions. Glad I manage to ask probably the most answered questions ever right there haha, sorry about that. One of my favorite things about FFXIV has been their approach to magic as far as explanations, sources, differences between practices. So definitely having a little timeline help along with play views has helped shape where I want to take my character ICly in response to that. I'm glad the community is so open to RP what you want but has a solid lore backing to guide people. - Seeing as I'm new to the game still, I built based on a lot of the FFXIV wikis explanation as to the situation with magic which was, only in recent times has it started coming back. I think perhaps some of that lead to initial misconceptions about the return on White and Black Mages. As adorable as I think the Padjal are, I think I'll stay away from the families to avoid the too special of a snowflake line. <.< I'll just need good excuses to wear all those pretty WM robes in roleplays. - I enjoy a lot of progression so I might have my little conjurer having little dreams of being a white mage someday. Maaaaaaybe. - As far as Fantasia potions and glamour, glad to hear that everyone seems to have either thought of that or have some means of doing so. I'm actually not sure if I'm going to play an Au Ra yet, but I have a friend who will once launch happens. If our RP itch couldn't hold out until the release we were simply pondering means to intergrate . Thank you all so much for your help and discussions

Storyline wise my character is first meeting an Au Ra when he comes to collect a bounty on her. (my friend's character obviously) So she is going to throw lots of rocks at him.
-
I have a question, actually a few, thus I am here! I'm still a newblet to the community, and haven't jumped into roleplay yet, as like many I'm waiting for some partners to be able to finally fantasia themselves into Au Ra so they can RP their actual character. One of the biggest questions I've had is regarding classes and job classes. I've had every intention of leveling myself to eventually take white mage. So I've decided I'm playing a little conjurer in story. Having gone through some story now I got to learn some interested aspects, such as very few actually ascend to the ranks of White and Black Mages. Well this let me a tad uncertain whether RPing Seren making the transition into White Mage would constitute as being too much of a special snowflake that many fear. It's a future goal to eventually achieve with her in RP, but does everyone abide by the idea that White Mages are rare, or are we all fairly loose and excepting there are more White Mages then led onto believe? Also in regards to that I've been trying to figure the exact timeline of when Black Mage/White Mage magic became temporarily outlawed and how long that lasted for. I've read that it indicated about 1500 years ago, but I just wanted to double check, again trying to be pretty lore friendly with anything I roleplay out. My last question has to do with glamour and fantasia potions. Obviously Fantasia potions give a lot of wiggle room about things, but can it be played off as a sort of glamour? I'm not far enough in game to really be able to have a justification for it in my own mind, so I wanted to inquire if it is possible?

Due to my own strange schedule, I prefer to play roles that I can exit in and out of, or have personality with a bit of wanderlust. Seren likes to just keep moving then linger in one place, so it's usually easy to explain why she might not be where people need her to be. This by no means to say its bad to RP any other way, it's just my personal choice, to give others an excuse to use. Like if I haven't been there awhile due to my crazy schedule, when I join an FC and am missing RP, they can easily give an excuse. "Oh Seren is off being Seren doing Sereny things."

Thank you for the welcome! aaand Verik... we know

.... Awkward cookie is going to be awkward and post an introduction because I'm terrible at ice breakers. --MMORPG background I've been on a lot it feel likes. Actively roleplaying I've been on Aion and Tera namely, a short stint in GW2 but real life had a way of taking me out of that. Outside that I've always been active on Neverwinter as a player as well as Elder Scrolls Online, as I never had much luck with finding open roleplaying outside my small group of friends on either. --RP experience Now this I have done a lot. Both on MMOs and on play by post forums, dating back when Ezboard was the primary and new fangle RP board of choice. I'm still highly confused by twitter and tumblr roleplay which I believe shows my age... okay I'm not THAT old. I got my start on AOL pokemon boards and Neopets... yeaah that was a looong time ago. --Character ideas/info Currently, my main girl, Seren Blackbourne is a little Hyur conjurer, aiming for White Mage job class. I like to play healer a lot, and with a fresh new gaming pc, I can without being stuck to laptop mousepad. Story wise I haven't gotten much outside she isn't exactly fond of her family (go figure), and likely adventuring to separate herself from them. I like being a small, compact pocket healer. --How did you learn about the coalition? I personally blame Verik. --What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy? Medium to heavy, I really like the roleplay aspect, but I do like playing the game sometimes as well. Having a bit of a hectic real life schedule that can change on short notice, does make it a tad hard to be super zealot on any sort of RP schedule. I just want to RP and play. I tend to go on leveling kicks if higher level armor is pretty though. I have a real thing for having a wardrobe because thats totally what your inventories are for right?! --Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc) I am someone who really enjoys table top RPGs, anime, comic books, ghost hunting, and yada yada yada. I'm out of college at this point and work a day job, and have a contract second job that calls me out every now and then on short notice. I usually open up about that sort of stuff once I get to know people more. Coming off of a few failed forums that ended, I got all nervous about posting places again, largely because I've joined a lot of communities during their dying phases and did a lot of work, for nothing. So I'm glad to see things alive and active!
