  1. Neither did I. I thought that was the final list of servers to include non-Legacy.
  2. It would seem to me more and more gaming production houses are teaming up with software publishing companies that distribute their software on a DRM platform effectively wiping out any chance of ever being able to play a game without the use of internet ever again. EA totally destroyed SimCity 4 with this concept as a prime example of how a DRM platform can take a game that was once fun and make you want to chunk it over the Grand Canyon.
  3. I'm giving mine a Drow name - Adingloth (Savage Walker) - To be adorned in that beautiful black behemoth barding to go along with my suit of Dragoon armor.
  4. These are some great screens. Jeanne looks like she loves the print screen button quite a bit, but also a nice compilation Crystalwolf's is by far my favorite though. I'm a sucker for oceanic scenery.
  5. Once my toon is high enough to make armor and weapons worth giving to new players, I'd be willing to participate in this as well.
  6. A statement was made in an earlier thread under the RP Discussion forum that legacy characters weren't able to transfer to non-legacy servers. Whereas the information posted in the following link seems to suggest otherwise. [Regional Data Centers and World Transfers (06/05/2013)] http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/topics/detail?id=c04f3593f6d9559a3c75c30887a9678758c91b95 I would be interested to see where the information originated from stating to the contrary. I'm only asking this for the purposes of ensuring the information making it to these boards is correct.
  7. Thank you, I'm sure I will. Though maybe I should have put in a small disclaimer at the bottom of my intro stating that my forum etiquette is a bit different than my in-game "silent in the corner" etiquette.
  8. I'm thinking the OP is in need of a little update.
  9. After having just read the thread 'RP Server: A Discussion', I now fully understand how this thread came to be. I'm really sorry I ever said anything about it.
  10. Right now I'm under this distinct impression that there is going to be absolutely no shortage of "new" new people to interact with. Just because a server is a non-Legacy server doesn't discount the fact that some veterans might opt to migrate to a new server for their chance to mad rush the coveted honor of "first"-ing any number of its unclaimed titles and achievements. The benefits of starting on a non-Legacy might be so negligible that you might probably wish you'd have just started out on Balmung to begin with. Having played MMOs that have released and grown to the point of requiring new servers, I can say the serenity of a server that's had a slight exodus is really nice at times when I think just how much chaos is ensuing on the new world while I drink my mulled tea and munch on my honey muffin at the local tavern. What? No flying hobbits landing on my table today? How nice. *sip*
  11. For some odd reason, I had this image of a Moogle doing this. What kind of funny noises do you think it would make spiraling into space and do you think that silly little red balloon would fly off its head from the recoil? :moogle: Oh, and thank you for the OP. I was really interested to know what happened before the servers went down in prep for the expansion. And now I do!
  12. I'm not quite sure I understand why some folks would opt to start on a non-Legacy versus Balmung once the game goes live. I think starting on a Legacy server would be more beneficial for a number of reasons. Maybe someone can argue against it and help me to see the benefit of the other side of this. (1) The hunting areas surrounding the city you start in would be less congested in comparison. When I started out in beta P3 last weekend, the areas around Gridania were brutal. The shrouds around the city looked something akin to a scene out of 300 with most everyone in the surrounding area flying around like little frenzy-stricken blade-equipped whirligigs annihilating anything that came within 25 yards of them even if it was already engaged. If it weren't for the fact you got credit for a kill even if you managed to only smack it once to do enough damage to register as an assist, I think some may have felt more than a little robbed of their time and effort. Fates were another interesting phenomena in which I swear some people inherited the ability of burrowing. You're walking along, a Fate pops up on you, and 30 people pop in out of no where like a horde of mole people. Who needs 15 minutes? It was usually completed in less than 2. (2) Those that are worried about playing catch up with material possession, having older toons on the server with established crafting practices could better help you with that. (3) As has already been said, level sync does a pretty good job of taking care of any gap between new and old toons so you still have some way of playing together and having both parties feeling as though they're getting something out of it. Though personally, gear is important, but not as important as the quality of the role playing I get out of the encounter. Just my opinions though.
  13. Hello all, I'm happy to say I'm returning to FFXIV after having learned via playing the beta last weekend that my graphics card, which once struggled and cried under the strain of the old graphics engine on max settings, can now handle the new engine with all the settings on max. This makes me very happy, and very optimistic about playing again. I'm also really liking the new changes they're making to the harvesting mechanics, though I have yet to mess with the crafting system. I'm not going to say what class I plan to be or crafting profession I'm going to take because I really don't know yet. Having said that, here's a little about me. My general gaming attitude falls along the lines of a "whatever" mentality. I've always played the quiet guy that sits in the back of a gathering or meeting and just listens to people; and that guy who does more background support while letting others take the spotlight for things. I go with the flow of the moment and take things in stride. I'm not so much a loner type as much as I am someone that prefers to fly under the radar; out of sight, out of mind. I'm that guy that walks *everywhere* and prefers to use my own two feet over the use of transport nodes. I'm never in a hurry unless I'm in a combat scenario or I'm keeping someone waiting at a rendezvous point for too long. All of this has a tendency of generating a like me or hate me scale that teeters on the extreme of one end of the spectrum or the other with no grey area depending on how it's all employed for or against you. So yeah! There it is.. Definitely looking forward to getting back into this.
  14. The graphics and UI are absolutely stunning. I really need to upgrade my system because this machine here can't even handle the graphics on 1.0 very well.
  15. I think I have something pretty well figured out in terms of pricing. I have to wonder, though, because I haven't verified this myself - Does Osgar in the Stateroom of Gridania really sell maple logs for 9,000 gil per?
  16. I see myself becoming a wholesaler in this situation. I believe in maximizing profit, but not to such an extent that it's pretty obvious the price was jacked up for the purposes of satisfying the need for greed. But whatever.. As long as my items sell, I don't really care if someone takes my stuff and stocks it for resale.
  17. Would it not be easier just to add a percentage markup on an item over what you could sell it to a vendor for? If the price becomes so undercut on the market, at some point in time I would be asking myself if I'd be making more selling it to an NPC than taking a profit cut on the market.
  18. Thank you, Eva, for that very extensive reply. That answered just about every question I had except two. Where are the auction houses and what method is used to construct a pricing scheme for your wares?
  19. So what you're essentially saying is there is room to specialize and feel as though you have a purpose in life as a crafter.
  20. Okay, so the one thing I noticed (and love to death) about this game is there are no limits to what you can expand into as a crafter because there are no skill point limitations. You can master every DoL and DoH skill out there and be totally 100% self reliant. So my questions are thus: 1. How does a player made economy survive with this type of self relying environment? 2. Is it even worth having a shop for a particular craft? 3. Is there a market for resource sales or would it better to just vendor the stuff? If your answer to #1 is something along the line of "Not everybody feels like going thru the boredom/grind of harvesting and crafting their own equipment, therefore relying on others who have the patience to do it" - my additional question would be: 4. What is the ratio of people who do craft to the people who don't craft to make the market worth being competitive in without feeling like you're competing against 500 other people in the same craft as you?
  21. Not much, Oskar. Thank you for the welcome. Looking forward to some interaction with the community. Drop me a line in game or something. I promise I won't set you on fire.. (maybe)
  22. Hello all. My name is Zaragh Kilana, a Duskwight Elezen currently residing in Gridania and I am a student of the magical arts. I spend much of my time casually walking about the forest lands of the Central Shroud on my own gathering resources and continuously expanding my knowledge of the magic arts. I consider myself to be the wandering loner type and very much enjoy the peace and serenity the atmosphere of the forest provides to help me attune myself and my thoughts to my work. But make no mistake about it when I say I have a dark side; one which has an uncontrollable tendency to be very destructive in nature. This, sadly, is a trait in which I have inherited from my family's bloodline and have yet to discover a method of keeping it quelled. If you happen to come across me along the Shroud or within Gridania, feel free to say hello. I just ask that you don't sneak up on me. I can't guarantee the outcome of my reaction. Edit: I didn't like how this toon turned out, so I went and rolled another one. Maybe next time I ought to know whether or not I'll be happy with one before I go trying to advertise him. :geek: Still going to be primarily in Gridania. I have a habit of having my walk/run toggled to walk at all times. So if you see someone casually strolling by you, feel free to engage me in some RP.
