1. Aww, I never knew that was the text for the Legacy Chocobo mount! That's actually really sad! D= (And God, I would kill for that mount. I don't have one because I'm one of those strange 'hybrid legacy players' that didn't sub during that final window... But they still gave me all the other rewards. <_< #salty)
2. I was under the impression that not all Warriors of Light had the Echo...? I would appreciate it greatly if someone could clarify that.
3. There is something really satisfying about seeing a tiny person kick major ass. I am heavily biased in this, however, because my main in Tera was an Elin Berserker. (Which is a part of the reason the race-class locks in Blade & Soul really piss me off... Not that it matters since we're never getting that game. /bitter) On one hand, I do like to see a bit of logic between what a person is capable of and their build... sometimes. On another hand, some things can be justified if they're explained well, handled with enough creativity, and/or if people just open their minds a bit. Lalafell are a little different in this regard (for me) because SE wants us to take them seriously... but then they give them such cutesy emotes and voices. It's kind of jarring, especially whenever I see Lalafell villians.
4. Ah, that all sounds entirely fair to me. The length of the guide aside, as long as it effectively delivers said point clearly, I have no other qualms. And you communicate your point very well, imo. No arguments there. I agree with it being a reader's preference, which is why I was a bit afraid of how I was coming off there. >< Some people prefer a larger volume of clarification by nature and I actually must remind myself of this often.
5. This actually fills me with hope because I was wondering if it would be silly if I started RPing an Au Ra early. Either by rolling a Miqo'te (just pretend the tail's under the robes and not there) or Hyur who ALWAYS stays covered in robes/masks (a la Yugiri), or maybe saying they glamoured themselves into one or the other somehow. I'd just stay vague/quiet on their backstory and then off I'd go. Still debating on if I'll do this or not... As for the Au Ra character itself, I can really only draft up personality bits since we don't have the lore yet. I'm thinking I might go for a stoic sort. I can see her being very curt. Far from emotionless, she's just not one for letting feelings interfere with reasoning. Hmm...
6. Regardless of how guns do or don't function, be it in regards to fantasy world logic or not... communication is essential for combat RP. Especially if you are unfamiliar with who you're doing the scene with. Assuming it is not a pre-planned scene, if no one's being an OP jerk, you should be able to work out some sort of balance in the end. I would not worry too much about the whole "ahh! it's a gun and guns pwn everyone!" thing.
7. I'm genuinely disappointed only one option has a kiss in it. I'm not gonna even consider the other two when it means missing the one opportunity to ever have me and my partner's characters kiss in the entire game. I'm a little disappointed in the lack of variety as well... Though we're going with the book-signing option because that flying aether wing kiss thing is just WAY too anime for us.
8. How a fight involving a Machinist would occur depends on the specific rules of that instance, too. If this isn't for self-defense (a simple sparring match, for example), weapons and magic may just not be allowed. So you wouldn't even have to worry about it. As for a life or death situation, or if weapons are being used for sparring (perhaps with paintballs or just aether?)... Purely going off of in-game animations, Machinist doesn't seem like it's some Western rapid fire, bullet hell-esque type of shooter. Its gun is more akin to a hand cannon if anything -- that is to say it fires shots kind of slow. It's not a gatling gun. (You could blame this solely on the GCD, perhaps. But story NPCs are typically careful with their shots as well.) This provides enough room for error, enough time to dodge, or to have something external ruin their focus. In short, as others said, get creative. If people could have decent combat RP in other MMOs with guns & magic, it should be fine here, too... Provided the people involved collaborate well.
9. ~20th Sun of the 6th Umbral Moon, 1578~ (12/20/14) At last! I have recovered my journal from among my things. Lamont has an odd self-proclaimed method to his madness when it comes to packing... Let's get a bit caught up, shall we? I have spent the last hour going over my previous entries. To think I have come so far in so little time. It is surreal, in a way. If anyone were to be reading this silly thing other than myself, it would come as quite a shock from the last handful of entries that I am living with Alice again... and I plan to marry her! I was rather upfront in expressing my intent to propose to her. Color me surprised that she would actually even have me. After treating her so poorly, breaking off our relationship and running off, leaving her to fend for herself... All because of some ridiculous worry I bore over hurting her in an uncontrollable rage. I have learned that merely being near Alice is enough to settle my soul. Her love calms me. Cliched, yes. But I care not. This woman cannot leave my side. Ever. She is a part of me, and I, her. We will make lovely wives for one another, shining down on all of Hydaelyn with our passionate smiles. I do not wish to recount the details of how we resolved our... issues. Some embarrassing things went down that are shameful at best. (I lost my mind in Coerthas. I began talking to a small present Alice had given me as though it were her. I honestly believed she was in it for a time... As I said, embarrassing!) Alice came and found me in that lonely, frozen world. I believe Lhei alerted her to the fact that I included my new address on the back of my goodbye letter. I held her close by the fire and promised I would make good on being her exception to every rule. Promised I would never let her go this time. I went back to the Alchemists' Guild in Ul'dah and was rehired. After working diligently and tirelessly for months, I eventually became something of a senior member. I even have an apprentice! Careful spending, saving, and calling in a few favors finally led to the accomplishment of my dream -- buying a brand new house for Alice and I. I tried my best to arrange things in a manner she would find suitable. The surprise went quite well. She cried... but they were happy tears. No one has shown her the kind of affection and appreciation I have. I want to continue to do that for her for as long as we live.
10. ((Extreme OOC Note: During my hiatus from the game, these were some entries I made for Astrid mainly for the reading pleasure of Alice's player. Essentially, Astrid's time in Coerthas was my time away. Rather than recreate them all here, I'm saving space and only including the document. Reading this is not really necessary to get caught up with Astrid's story, but it's there for the curious.)) Please click here to read. Thank you!
11. Omg, same here! I have fond memories of romping through St. Mark's with friends when I was younger. I really miss that takoyaki stand... and the Japanese crepe shop (that sadly didn't last very long). As for the Kinokuniya store, I've been there twice, I believe. At that time, they had recently put up large prints of Amano's artwork on the walls. It was quite a sight. Anyway, back then and even now, I'd probably dump embarrassing amounts of money into a cafe like this if it was in either of those areas. That or I'd try to work there. Desperately.
12. Not sure how on or off-topic this is, but... Several of my friends and I have been under the impression that the mating rituals of Seekers aren't really commonplace in Eorzea anymore. The whole Nuhn/Tia thing was very widespread years ago when tribes were being traditional and whatnot, but now that it's the adventuring age, many Seekers have left that lifestyle behind. The U tribe in Forgotten Springs is considered an old-fashioned minority, if you will. None of this is to say that there are NO more traditional Seeker mating groups to be found. It's just not widespread or "the norm" anymore.
13. ...All I know is that Gladiolus, Noctis, Ignus, and Cidney? I'd do all of em'. Not Prompto, though. Cuz meh.
14. Poor choice of skin/horn/hair color by the promotional team is partly to blame for that, imo.
15. ...I'm Commander Kismet, and this is now my favorite thread on the Coalition.
16. Quoted for absolute truth. On a separate note... No matter WHAT race SE added to this game? No matter what it was or what it looked like? People would still love it, people would still hate it. And no matter what it was or what it looked like, had it been "very bestial" or not? It still wouldn't have been a novel concept. The Au Ra didn't emerge overnight. SE knew exactly what they wanted and where they wanted to go with this. If you don't like it, fine. If you like it, also fine. (I won't touch on sexual dimorphism right now because my thoughts on that would be a dissertation.) I'm solely speaking to originality of design (or the lack thereof), or claims both literal and facetious that the devs simply "re-skinned the Hyur"... as if Miqo'te aren't just smaller Midlanders with cat features.
17. This is probably going to be a low blow, but... ...So you mean to tell me that THIS CHARACTER couldn't be described as a "pretty boy" or "emo-looking"? In fact, he kind of just looks like an extra-oriental Noctis. Sasuke-esque, even. Just sayin'. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
18. I've played through the main story three times now. There are limits to my sanity. Seriously, same here. Not to mention having to do those first 22-ish levels all over again without a chocobo? No. No, thank you.
19. I'll be changing an alt into one, provided we actually can use a Fantasia for that. I don't think SE would pull that jerk move, but I'm always prepared for the worst. The alt in question, my character Lhei, won't be dying or really going MIA. She's just sort of... in the background-ish. Living her life, doing her thing with her fiance'.
20. All this game has to do is be better than FF13... which is a ridiculously easy feat to achieve. Almost laughably so. In fact, I have laughed about it. Many times! So unless Nomura hit his head really damned hard eight years ago or something, they should be fiiiiiine.
21. As I said in my first few posts, I really want to make one and I like them. There are things about them I dearly wish were different, but my bearing feelings of that nature are not exclusive to the Au Ra. For example... Even though my main is a Miqo'te, I have tons of issues with them. I'm not fond of how cutesy Hyur females are, I hate how Elezen have little pea heads, I wish Roes could have Merlwyb's face/animations... I could go on for pages/hours. But that doesn't mean I don't love any of those races, not for a second. Like a terrible movie or some greasy food, I can acknowledge its flaws if I want to and still adore it.
22. My rule of thumb with mute characters, or ANY character with a disability... hell, you could apply this to any character flaw in general... is that the disadvantage is NOT the character. If all there is to the concept is "Bob can't talk! Pity him!" and nothing else, then the character will come off as one-dimensional. A disability isn't what makes a person. It's about what the person makes of the disability.
