Heavensward Jobs, and Au Ra Lore now available
Kismet replied to Avalt Laguz's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Yeah, I was wondering this, too. I figured people would be happy that they weren't locked down to a specific reason for their character to travel. When we're given clearly defined mannerisms or traditions of a race, a lot of people can't wait to bend or break the heck out of the ones they don't prefer. But when given a lot of wiggle room to work with, it's not enough all of a sudden...? Quests/NPCs in 3.0 will likely expand upon the influx of traveling Au Ra. For the Xaela, my very lazy guess is that Garleans possibly have already begun to encroach on that "vast western steppe" they were roaming in. -
Heavensward Jobs, and Au Ra Lore now available
Kismet replied to Avalt Laguz's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Well to be fair there isn't a ton of Lalafell lore either aside from homes on giant tortoises but people still effectively play them. Just be patient and give them time. Players will adjust and I am sure it will be fine. I agree there could have been more but as they say....make lemonade with the lemons you've been given. Agreed. A majority of the lore we have now about the current races came from what we've learned through quests and NPCs, not those initial racial blurbs. We'll learn more with time and adapt accordingly, be it with facts or with creativity. c: Is it convenient for us? No. But I wouldn't be totally discouraged just yet. -
Heavensward Jobs, and Au Ra Lore now available

Snip I'm aware of most of this. I can't speak for others, of course, but I personally never was under the assumption that DRK was any of those misconceptions. (Mainly because I actually bothered to educate myself on its history.) My comment was more or less me being glad they didn't differentiate from that path to meet some petty player expectation, or something. -

Ahhh, lore! Excitement! I'm actually pleased with all of the lore descriptions. MCH we pretty much already had a good idea of, AST makes sense for reasons stated by others earlier in the thread, and for DRK... I kind of like their 'darkness' is just their aesthetic/powers, and their motivations are something that's still noble. It means they actually bothered to keep the 'knight' part of Dark Knight genuine. All of the Batman references weren't just silly randomness! I can dig it. Now, dat Au Ra lore drop... I am very, very conflicted. I have so many potential ideas for both! Urgh! Perhaps deciding will be easier when we hopefully see the benchmark in about a week or so. I hope the scales won't be color-locked. =/ (I always expect the worst, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were.) -
Reasoning for irregular race/nationality combinations
Kismet replied to Seriphyn's topic in RP Discussion
This is kind of off-topic, but I've been confused as to why people think the Miqo'te in that Heavensward Tour video could possibly be the MCH job master. As the video flies through Ishgard, we see many random placeholder models (wearing AF2) purely meant to populate the city just so the video looks good. I don't think that one lone Miqo'te is an exception to that just because he was in a workshop. Not to say that invalidates the rest of the point in your post, btw. It's just that one thing that's kinda bothered me ever since that video came out. -
Reasoning for irregular race/nationality combinations
Kismet replied to Seriphyn's topic in RP Discussion
I do not see how someone can give an answer to the questions you're asking without giving some variation of what I've bolded above, and have it still be logical and/or lore-abiding. I'm aware that's a very black and white way for me to view things, but it's how I feel. For the life of me, I cannot think of why someone would RP something like... a Lominsan Roegadyn White Mage, for example... for any reason other than "I just really like WHM and Roes look cool" or "it's not boring, unlike a RPing a Roe Yellowjacket would be". That may or may not be a terrible example... But my point is that no matter what the reason, it's ultimately going to boil down to wanting to have one's cake and eat it. And if they're not trying to stick as closely to lore as possible, then that's fine. Go have fun and do whatever makes you happy. I'm not saying this necessarily makes those people not worth RPing with or bad RPers in general. And neither is Seriphyn, to be clear. Just my two cents. -
Ugh, I have to agree. I hate that in any MMO I see with an Asian-influenced race. "Random Japanese + Random Chinese = Race X's language." No! It doesn't work like that!

I've tried to make this same argument in the past and was met with a lot of resistance. Not to discourage you from doing the same. Just some friendly advisory to tread lightly, lol.

In the circles I've found myself RPing in, having the line between you and your character be too thin is something typically avoided. Having OOC feelings/justifications bleed into RP, in the many cases I've experienced (but certainly not all), often came from the player being too close and/or too attached their character(s). I think it is this mentality that has driven me to constantly remind myself that my characters are mere tools for entertainment. This doesn't mean I'm entirely detached from my characters, though! Every character someone RPs as will be influenced by that player. My feelings just don't go beyond... let's say what an actor's level of attachment would be for a character they've portrayed. You may love the character and you can immerse yourself in the role, but that's where it ends and you have no problem letting them go at the end of the day. This includes death, for me. My final two cents is that I agree with what some others have said, in that death for the sake of death (or the sake of drama) is not something I support. All rhyme has reason, and if you possess none of the latter, the former will not come.

All of my characters, in ANY MMO I RP in, can be permanently killed. (I find revivals to be pointless and tasteless, personally.) In FF14, I'm a little reluctant for that to happen because that means $10 for a name change (each of my chars has at least 1 Fantasia -- dem baller Legacy perks). But at the end of the day, I take "IC consequences for IC actions" very seriously. That and if it makes for good storytelling while not seeming to be over-the-top dramatic or illogical, I don't see why not. My characters are tools, not people. I'm no more attached to them than I would be to a screwdriver or something.

[SPOILERS not hidden in SPOILERS] 2.55 Before the Fall Part 2
Kismet replied to Kage's topic in FFXIV Discussion
My personal speculation is that Y'shtola POSSIBLY performed what could either be a new WHM LB (based purely on the fact that Yda performed Final Heaven) OR a new lvl 60 skill. But, as I said, just speculation. -
How would you change your favourite class/job?
Kismet replied to mongi291's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Seriously. Tri-Disaster has such a BADASS animation with cool, mysterious visual/sound effects! And then, I saw what little effect it had, and I was all "Oh..." =( SO LAME! C'mon, SE! I do known SMNs are supposed to be getting Ramuh and Leviathan as Egis at some point in 3.0, but I don't know if that alone is really going to give the class the major "OOMPH" it needs to properly sparkle. -

Kismet replied to mongi291's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Most changes I could think of right now would just make whatever job I'm thinking of OP. The only justifiable thing that comes to mind is "buff SMNs in general". There's also the classic "WTF @ BRD LB3", but Yoshi-P's confirmed they're getting a unique DPS LB3 come 3.0, so that desire of mine has been quelled. -
I'm only here to agree with others in that Aymeric's voice (in English) is vocal honey to my ears and I would marry it if I could. I mean, I'd marry him in general. And have his children, too. No questions asked! *shot*

Honestly? Some us are just sick and tired of reading it over and over and over again. I won't tell people to stop complaining about what they don't like... (Especially when I find it extremely ironic that people primarily call the females generic, when I can point out just as many things about the males that are just as overdone and bland.) I can say that I find those harsh critiques (albeit unintentionally) are a bit much when found in a topic that isn't even asking for that kind of opinion, though. /shrug

Event & Party Recruitment Guide | FINAL FANTASY XIV, The Lodestone

I apologize for being a bit off-topic, but I appreciate them having an Au Ra in the artwork. -
Superman, as a character, makes me so mad. I have nothing else to add to this conversation. You're all beautiful people, stay classy. Blog post is related...

It was easy to choose someone for Y'raja because she's a bard, lol. I'm always thinking in terms of music and sound when it comes to her character. Marina wouldn't just be her singing voice, but I would have her voice Y'raja in general if I could. 9R7hZ7VOJ58 I know I've always wanted a smooth voice for Astrid that was a bit on the deeper end. This is pretty close to what I had in mind, though Astrid can't sing quite this well. NOG6gd3O4OI

I've been playing around with GemFX on XIV after loving the look of it on GW2, and I'll continue to test and tweak things until I'm completely satisfied... but I'm liking the look of it of it so far.
