To echo others on the sentiment, jump potions will have little to do with player skill level. Mainly because there are plenty of people who have been subscribed to this game for years... and they still play like shit.

Regardless of whether it's lore appropriate or not (I personally stick to what devs say and treat it something that's only meant to serve a mechanical purpose), I'm more concerned about why people feel the need to use Fantasia as an excuse for changing a character concept. Why intentionally choose one of the most unnecessarily convoluted methods for ditching a concept you don't want to RP anymore... as opposed to simply killing the character off, or just saying they went to go adventuring for the rest of their lives or something? People honestly can't think of anything else? (Mind you, I'm not talking about people who do silly slice-of-life plots like "uh oh, they've been temporarily transformed and hi-jinks ensue~" or whatever. I'm only talking about people who intend to permanently close the book on a character concept and never return to it.)

I personally find it concerning when someone wants to cater to someone else's interests over their own. That mindset, whether it's intentional or not, doesn't exactly send the greatest impression. If you RP what you enjoy and what makes you passionate, then I will receive the best example of what your RP ability is. If you're just trying to RP what somebody else likes... then your RP won't be genuine. All interaction with you will probably feel stale and the concept will fall flat. Please do not do this. That's not to say you shouldn't try new concepts or that you shouldn't get out of your comfort zone. I'm just saying it needs to be a decision you actively chose -- not something you force yourself to do just because somebody else said so/in order to please them. The only person you should be concerned with making happy is yourself. Just do what you like, do it as well as you can, and the rest should fall into place.

Oh, yeah. I forgot one! Stand Still, Stay Silent Another gorgeous comic with strong world building, but this one's inspired by Nordic myth. Definitely worth a look for the art alone.

Confusion on Keeper of the Moon naming conventions
Kismet replied to Valence's topic in Lore Discussion
A friend of mine and I also talked about this passage. We came to the consensus that it has to be an error. The naming structure in Keeper families would be way too chaotic and confusing otherwise. -
I've being playing my Raen as having a bit of an accent and stumbling over certain words from certain cultures that are difficult to pronounce (i.e. anything Elezen). So I was quite happy to learn that the lorebook supports this practice. However, I wouldn't be so quick to fly the 'spoken Doman language = Japanese' flag. Hell, I wouldn't be so quick to say Elezen is just straight up French, either. That's always kind of annoyed me, personally. Just because a real-life language was used for inspiration and/or as a base for a fictional one... that doesn't necessarily mean that's 100% what said fictional culture's spoken language consisted of. Unless Koji confirms it as such, obviously. I know some people don't like that because they want to have their fantastical magic Francophile and/or Weeb speak time. But I'd always rather be safe than sorry, and keeping things vague until word of god gives the okay to do one thing or another is the best way to keep most folks you meet in public happy. This should go without saying, but of course, among your friends/FC/LS? You go and do whatever makes you happy. As long as all parties involved are okay with it and accept it.

New race in Stormblood? - Speculation and Discussion
Kismet replied to Altitis Acquired's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I just agree that I'd love to see greater range in height and/or types of body builds in the races we already have before we got any new ones. -
I don't understand what people expect from out of 'teaser'. No, it didn't reveal much... which is sort of the point? However, if you know where to look and what to look for, it did tell us some things. Like how the quality of the visuals actually slightly improved, for one thing. It also possibly teased a new class (if it turns out that Lady in Red isn't a MNK) along with a nice pan-out of one of the main new areas. Quick sidenote, back in 1.0, blade dancers were mentioned as being a thing in Ala Mhigo. So that's likely why some folks are thinking dancer. But I'm staying on the safe side and saying she's probably just a MNK with a seemingly dancer-esque flourish.

New race in Stormblood? - Speculation and Discussion
Kismet replied to Altitis Acquired's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I never want this game to get Viera or any variation of them. They're just really tall rabbit Miqo'te with weird feet and bigger tits. Gee whiz. And I don't care if SE was actually considering them once upon a time. They just really get on my nerves for some reason. Almost as much as Lalafell. Almost. If this game were to get a new race, I don't think it would happen until 5.0, honestly. But, if it does happen one way or the other... I think seeing some variation of either the Yukes (Crystal Chronicles versions, not the tiny ones), the Nu Mou, or the Burmecians would be unique to see. If there had to be another distinctly humanoid race, perhaps something inspired by the Guado could be made interesting. -
This I agree with. The stream of Tokyo Fan Fest I watched two years ago was much better. Nico Nico was a pain in the ass to deal with, so the platform this one was held on was way better in terms of streaming performance. But the content wasn't as good and the sound quality for the concert was poor. At least the outfit reward isn't trash, unlike like that damned moogle crap...

Two Kinds Sister Claire The Meek Eerie Cuties Awaken Blindsprings Prague Race Hark! A Vagrant Cyanide & Happiness The Black Brick Road of OZ King's Folly Vibe Their Story Out of all of these, I especially recommend Blindsprings. Between the gorgeous art, the worldbuilding, and the characters? Ugh. That woman is too talented! Also, Vibe is on indefinite hiatus, but the art was too vibrant and unique to not share. In some ways, it kind of reminds me of Hanna Is Not A Boy's Name. I'm also surprised that someone else has heard of The Fox Sister! It's a shame that both the writer and artist's lives keep getting dunked on, though. It hasn't updated in quite some time.

Rp'rs going for certain wards w/apartments?
Kismet replied to Niteshade_Rune's topic in FFXIV Discussion
When/If I actually get an apartment, I'll post wherever I end up here. I think it'd be really nice to see mini RP hubs pop up in whatever wards that have higher numbers of us. -
Moulin Rouge - Seeking talent of many varieties!
Kismet replied to Devereau's topic in Chronicled Connections
While I cannot offer my assistance, I am here to say that I am very happy that an RP group purchased that housing plot. Astrid's house used to be there, and I felt really bad that I just let it go to market as opposed to offering it up here on RPC first. I hope you guys get way more use out of it than I did. I wish you happy RPing. -
By the Twelve, that is some ugly stuff... Save for maybe a couple of the anima weapons. Ugh.

[Persona 5] You are a prisoner. Want emancipation?

Oh, I'm way hyped for this. P5 is one of the few reasons I even want a PS4. -
Roleplayer Uncertainty/Insecurity Theater
Kismet replied to Warren Castille's topic in Character Workshop
I mostly worry about being too much of... anything. Too OP, too silly, too dramatic, too talkative, too proactive/pushy, too shy, too grumpy, too broody, too edgy, etc. etc. Which I guess boils down to being worried about coming off as a Mary Sue. I also worry that I might be making things too much about myself and my characters sometimes. I constantly ask myself "is this plot dumb?" and "does anyone other than me care?" -
I'm sorry for leaving every time roulette gives me a dungeon or trial I hate. (Mostly Cutter's Cry, Aurum Vale, Dzemael, and Halatali.) I'm also sorry for alt-tabbing for like... half of every Void Ark run I do as a DPS. <_<

Dat Minfillia redesign... :frustrated: Also, I swear, if it turns out she becomes a vessel for Hydaelyn or fuses with her or some shit... I'll be kind of annoyed. Please don't do something like that, SE. Please.

A character concept you always wanted to try...
Kismet replied to LadyRochester's topic in RP Discussion
I've always wanted to play a character who's as dumb as a bag of bricks... But I don't feel I could pull it off very well without the character either being a) extremely annoying on both an IC and OOC level, or b) an embodiment of several stereotypes and/or cliched tropes. Playing a grizzled old war vet could be fun, but there's no way I could play that as a main. I feel like I'd get bored too often. I also keep making up concepts for villains, but they end up becoming softer-hearted than I originally intend. I want to play a villain who falls into gray territory in several aspects, but still ultimately stays a villain! I may work on something like that for whatever the next big MMORPG I jump to is... -
The boyfriend fled to Africa, apparently: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3386183/Sian-Blake-s-boyfriend-fled-Africa-Claims-ex-EastEnders-star-s-partner-GHANA-police-face-internal-probe-missed-three-bodies-garden.html Absolutely terrible. No one deserves something like this, especially those kids. Somebody better catch that piece of shit.

This question keeps cropping up and my question to the asker is the same every time: Why does the character NEED to be a White Mage specifically? The purpose or end goal of a roleplayer's decisions about what traits/abilities/weaknesses to give a character -- and whether or not they make sense within the scope of what's commonly possible in the game's universe -- is typically my concern. If you're anything like me, I try to think of why the character needs to be special to such a degree. And why I can't just find a way to creatively and logically work around any lore that may not be all that inclusive to what I want to do. If I can't justify the specialness with a reason other than "well, that would be awesome", then I feel like it makes the trait an empty one and doesn't add much to the character. It ends up coming off as vapid, not interesting. Disclaimer: None of this is to say that if you just want your character to be cool and special, that you can't. I won't police you about that. Do as you like. Everything stated above is just the process that I typically use for creating a character concept.

Why You Should Keep an Open Mind and Not Judge Other Roleplayers in Most Cases
Kismet replied to Sig's topic in RP Discussion
don't get me wrong, it's great that this method works for you, but it does not work for everyone I know this might just be a joke, but you did use the term 'everyone' and I know that a lot of people IRL and on internet believe that pessimism is entirely more mature and smart than being optimistic or even ambivalent. It's one way of looking at things, is all. Personally, if I were to be so pessimistic regarding all new people I meet, it would be extremely draining seeing as I already become very stressed at times interacting socially The post was largely meant to be facetious. While I do use that philosophy for not only my approach to RP, but most things in life, I do not actually think everyone (or anyone) needs to do what I do. In regards to the topic, my point was that despite how critical I personally am of the people I encounter, I still at least give them a chance. Because how will I know if I'm right or wrong if I don't even RP with them? -
[NSFW] RP Discussion: Bad words said IC, for it or against it?
Kismet replied to Avira's topic in RP Discussion
As I read through the thread, the only lingering thought I had was me wondering how comfortable/okay people would be with "fuck" specifically being used in RP if NPCs used it often. While I'm not saying I'm a fan of using things like "dude" or "wazzup" in RP, I don't think everybody has to talk in a similar nature to the NPCs in order to be believable or authentic (or even immersive, honestly).
