I also want dungeons that aren't timed. There are a lot of REALLY cool areas I would love to have more than 10-20mins to RP in... <_< I also agree with K'dath in that SE's brilliant idea of locking players out of end-game content if they don't complete the story quests is a major turn-off. Perhaps I was spoiled by GW2, but let me choose how I want to progress through the game and access higher level content.

I definitely agree with this. I also really like how you're treating that. I've always found what I like to call 'mundane nobility' charming. The wealth isn't crazy abundant, the business the family is in isn't anything grandiose, and they don't possess any sort of crazy ties. Humble nobles are awesome.

Different strokes for different folks, I'm afraid. You just haven't experienced what others and I have. That being said, the game is certainly not overrun with such behavior. But it is there, it's the sort of thing some would expect to be present, yet the majority of FFXIV's player base doesn't consist of it. I think the same will be true for the WoD MMO. The sorts of players that Raccoon suggested will definitely be there, but I highly doubt the overall percentage of stupidity is going be 40% higher or more than that of what is found in most other MMOs. A small part of the reason I think this is actually because of what you said about longtime WWolf fans typically (though not always) being older and more mature. That, and... I don't think how accessible something is, nor the self-perceived estimate of the amount of effort one hobby takes over another, are necessarily the best tools to be using for this sort of speculation. But that's just me.

While we're on the subject, how valid is playing a Lalafell princess, exactly? I wouldn't think it was possible for a player to even do that. I know that the Sultana only reigns over Ul'dah and its people... But other than that, I have no idea how Lalafell royalty works. I mean, there are no other places besides Ul'dah that would have a royal family to even rule them in Eorzea, are there (since Sil'dih and its entire civilization no longer exist)? Or are people making up their own city-state?

To be completely fair, WoD is not a special case by any means. Every online game is going to have idiots, so it should be expected. The WoD MMO will have more than its fair share of idiotic vampire LARPers/fanatics just as FFXIV has more than its fair share of idiotic weeaboos. (Yeah, that's right. I said it.) The level of stupidity in the player base is not going to be any higher than usual. At least not significantly, anyway. But, just like RP griefers, we can easily just ignore them. Izzy, you are extremely naive if you honestly think that every single EVE player is intelligent. Just because it's a CCP game doesn't mean it will necessarily be played by the same kinds of folks who play EVE (all of which, as I just said, are not necessarily smart). Not to mention that you're actually quite wrong in your final statement. While the target audience for this game is aimed at neither player base, you're gonna see a LOT more WoW vets interested in that game than you will EVE vets. It's closer to their niche.

A Question on Perceptions of Classes. (Spoilers)
Kismet replied to Eorn Palamo's topic in RP Discussion
That sounds incredibly awesome, mainly because one of my characters has a backstory that is supposed be exactly all of that. I've been thinking of making her a Warrior for quite a while (maybe not the actual job itself, but possibly just give her the skills of one), but this really inspires me to go and explore their story now. -
Yeah, I'll have to second everything Liadan said. Doing as much of those things as you can simultaneously makes for pretty good exp gain, but only at lower levels. Once you hit about 35-40ish, it mostly becomes all about the FATE crunch frenzy! (Of course, you don't have to grind FATEs... It's just the most efficient way to level.) You can look up some FATE leveling guides that suggest what areas are best to grind in according to your level range if you want a concrete idea of where to go for future leveling.

I'm a newbie to WoD, so I'm slowly learning about it over time. I want to be prepared by the time the WoD MMO comes out. I'm also playing VtM Bloodlines on and off. But all of that is besides the point! I just wanted to share something I thought was neat and useful. If you're a noob like me, or are a vet looking for a refresher, are a very enlightening watch. He provides you with an amazing wealth of knowledge on the subject. Put it on the background while you're leveling or something. I enjoyed them!

Right now, the most popular way to go about this is to grind FATEs in the Northern Thanalan (Ceruleum Processing Plant). Typically, when players hit 44-45, they will go there and stay until they're 50. The FATEs there give immense amount of exp and it's the probably the most optimal way to earn those last five levels (at least to my knowledge).

Purely out of curiosity, the farmers that the character will be adopted and raised by... Are they going to be Hyur? Or will they be Miqo'te as well? Or one of the other races?

I've taken this test so many times in so many different forms, and I typically always get either INTJ or ESTJ. I took the one the OP linked and got INTJ. Funny, because it says that INTJs are typically engineers or scientists and dislike art/entertainment-based careers... ...Meanwhile, I'm a 5th year art university student.

Oh, my. Academy RP. I do not know what it is, but I love academy RP. I totally geek out over this sort of theme all the time, so I am extremely interested. I will certainly be keeping an eye on this and will think it over for a while.

~1st Sun of the 5th Astral Moon, 1577~ (9/1/13) I have met the girl I wrote of a few days prior once again. It seems that I have been assigned to be her bodyguard. A curious turn of events. Her name is Alice. Alice Lancaster. How lovely. It suits her, with that doll-like appearance of hers. It took me quite a bit of work to get that information out of her, though! She very much did not seem to desire my services at first. Alice tried her hardest to avoid me, attempting to lead me astray with a fake name, countless excuses, distractions, and even blatantly walking away from me. So feisty! I was never one to back down from a challenge simply because it was difficult, however. I continued to pursue Alice until she finally broke down and came to terms with my presence. I think it had something to do with the fact that I reassured her I would not interfere with her daily life. I would simply escort her from place to place if the distance was considerable or the location sketchy. My mentors at the Gladiator's Guild told me that the contract requested by the Thaumaturge's Guild had no cut-off date listed, so Alice will be my charge until someone says otherwise. I trust that our relationship will be an interesting one.

~28th Sun of the 4th Umbral Moon, 1577~ (8/28/13) I met a strange girl today. Never before have I encountered someone so bratty, so harsh, so quick to judge others. I do not even know her name. I asked, but she refused to tell me. Dark blue robes and long, curly crimson tresses. Seemed to be near my age, perhaps between sixteen and eighteen. One of her eyes was green, the other blue. A rounded, pale face and flawless skin. She looks like... I can also describe her as a doll. Fitting, because she is quite tiny for a Midlander. A Thaumaturge. We chatted for a while at the Bannock. Some of our interests were shared, like our fondness for reading in peaceful places. It is actually somewhat funny -- she called me a moron when she first saw me. A male Miqo'te noticed that I was napping beneath a tree at Bentbranch Meadows. This girl thought I was an idiot for slumbering there. Well, it was raining, you see. But it was only a light drizzle and it began some time after I closed my eyes... But I digress. Poor thing was not fond of the rain at all. I followed her to the Bannock to check if she was alright. Annoying. My initial thought. Who looks down upon others so easily with little to no basis? An ugly trait. I would know better than anyone, displaying the same unattractive quality myself whenever a person greatly angers me. Yet, she... is so alluring to look at. Surely there is something more there, is there not? A girl this pretty cannot be so wicked in heart. But that may just be the Romantic in my head talking. I did not give her my name. If the Twelve have truly fated us to meet, we would do so again.

To be fair, not ALL of the RP in TERA was of that nature. Faye only jokingly asked that because (or so I assume) there were actually two guilds on the RP server called Desire and Lust, the former of which was pretty well-known because it had a large roster and often claimed territories through the election system. On a more on-topic note, I cannot think of any FCs with considerable numbers that fit what you may be looking for that are currently recruiting. Perhaps you could give us a little more info about your character so we better know what to suggest? (That or you could simply browse through this list if you have not done so already.).

~2nd Sun of the 2nd Umbral Moon, 1573~ Truly, I am monstrous. My two dearest siblings gawked at me as though I were the second coming of Bahamut. The air was thick with many things. Fear. Horror. A sickening scent. Even swallowing proved to be painful. What would Mother and Father say? Can I even go back home? No, I cannot. I will be banished from their house... From the Conjurer's Guild, from Gridania. Who would dare speak to a despicable girl like me? These were my thoughts at the time. I was warned. I believed no one. And yet... What I saw today... Lamont and Ingrid promised that they would tell no one. My sin has now become theirs to share. What will come of this? How can I live with myself for the rest of my life? Even if no one finds out, even if the images one day fade from my memory... Surely, it will catch up with me. I must do something. Anything. Anything to atone for this horrible, horrible occurrence. How could this... Why me of all people? ~ ((Some of the ink is smudged, likely by tears. The page is worse for the wear, however, due to intense wrinkling and stains of an unknown substance. Another heavily wrinkled paper, folded, is tucked between this page and previous.))

This is kind of a tricky subject for me... I've never been fond of dealing with players who play characters of a noble background (especially after immediately coming from GW2, which had a ridiculous explosion of them). While this obviously does not apply to everyone, I have RARELY seen the concept being handled well. I've seen people get godmoddy/marysue-ish with it, use it to establish a circlejerking clique, or just use it has an excuse to carry out some grand multi-authored Game of Thrones fanfiction with their own characters pasted in. =_= SE does not treat "nobility" in this game in a 100% traditional, historical sense. That's fine. However, like SO many other things in FFXIV's lore right now, I feel as though the specifics behind such are not complete? Or at least not entirely clear. Is it just extreme wealth = nobility? Or is there more to it than that? Does it depend on the city-state they're in? Or how much property they own? If they're new money or old money? What definitely makes a noble a noble in FFXIV's setting? I don't know what the answer to that question is yet. If I encounter an RPer who claims nobility, I will not outright ignore them... But how I react to it (or one of my characters, rather), is something I'm still debating with myself. It may depend on how it is presented to me. Edit: I did read through the other 'Nobles?' thread, but I would like better clarity. All I got from that thread was 'extremely rich people are nobles, especially if they're Ul'dahn'. Am I overlooking something?

What do you want to see added to the game in the future?
Kismet replied to Dravus's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Oh, I know that. It's just that Midlanders get no access to those styles. There's only one "semi-long" hairstyle. I guess you could count the one with the bangs, as well, but it's pretty terrible looking. Yes, I veeeeery much agree. -

They do plan to release HD textures for PC players in a later patch, actually. That's why the game looks so "flat" right now compared to 1.0. We're seeing the PS3 version right now, basically. As for people who want longer hair, typically you don't see a lot of super long styles in MMOs due to clipping/physics/coding issues. But I would like to see more styles around the length of the longest fem Roegadyn styles. That's probably as long as it's gonna get, realistically. -
Welcome to RPC! Here, have a kitty!

What do you want to see added to the game in the future?
Kismet replied to Dravus's topic in FFXIV Discussion
- A permanent /kneel emote. - A new fairy and/or egi for SCH/SMN. Maybe a third Carbuncle. - A /sleep or /liedown emote. - A preview armor/weapons feature. - The ability to dye items we currently cannot that already have different color variations present in the game. (I'm looking at you, Acolyte's Robe... <_<) - Moar character customization features. - Optional race-specific quest lines would be cool. -
Characters in media that influence/are similar to your character!
Kismet replied to Orlog's topic in RP Discussion
Astrid is mostly influenced by... And a little bit by... -
I also agree with this. For a personal example, once I get Y'raja the Bard relic armor? She will not be wearing that ACTUAL set ICly, just something along the same lines in terms of aesthetic style. I will also treat her bow this way (that, or say that it's an imperfect replica or something). Whenever I encounter one-of-a-kind items in a game, I never RP that my character has the actual item, just something that looks like it or functions similarly to it.
-
I'm too lazy to put pictures, but Y'raja is probably a coyote or a fox. A foxote? A coyox? She could pass as a very small sort of monkey, too. They typically come off as tricky. WHAT DOES THE FOX SAY?! RINGDINGDINGDINGDINGADINGGADING-- *gets shot* Meanwhile, Astrid is probably just a dog. She's supposed to be a loyal, friendly, and brave sort of person, and works as a bodyguard, so... Yeah!
