  1. My word, I am so jealous of your screenshots, Clover. Ever since you got those SweetFX details from Zyru, your screenshots have been nothing less than cutscene quality. Suuuuper envious. <3 The moment I can get my GPU issue fixed, I am putting in those settings ASAP.
  2. I personally really like what I did with this. My Miqo'te's name is Y'raja, and raja means king in both Indian Sanskrit and Indonesian, I believe. I named her chocobo Takhta, which is Indonesian and/or Malaysian for throne. Meanwhile, Astrid's chocobo is simply named Parsnip... Because he's kind of the color of one, right? Lmao. (And yes, my characters have ICly named their chocobos that!)
  3. I'm aiming for my Miqo'te to have an accent that is akin to that of Lyngsath (Culinarian GM, Roegadyn) and/or Pawah (Moon Keeper) from the Archer class quest line. She grew up in Limsa, and even used to be a part of the Maelstrom (and might have been a pirate at some point, I'm still trying to decide), but has been traveling nonstop for quite a few years now. I want her speech to be lazy and a bit rough yet very playful (like she is). Not sure if this helps the OP, per se, but just thought I'd add my two cents (and these photos, so that others can get an idea of what's been discussed thus far in the thread).
  4. Putting this in a spoiler for neatness.
  5. I just wanted to share something for everyone's benefit. I told a friend of mine this and he was surprised to hear it, so I wanted to pass the knowledge on. ------ Now that I've gotten that out of the way... Y'raja Lhiza: Y'raja has issues with commitment. Of any kind. Do not expect her to keep every promise, listen to every rule, obey every law, stay anywhere for too long, or keep a single lover. This makes it difficult to get to know her on a deep level, let alone trust her. Speaking of trust, that's another thing she has issues with -- earning Y'raja's trust is a difficult endeavor. She also bores quickly, abhors hard work, and dislikes taking sides. The last trait can double as a strength, but in scenarios where having a distinct stance is beneficial, her strong neutrality hurts more than it helps. When paired with the fact that she is easily swayed by petty things (money, sex, tasty food), it's possibly even dangerous. Astrid Douglass: Astrid picks up a lot of things others seem to find well-hidden, but she can be quite oblivious to things herself. If someone genuinely likes her, she will be the last to figure it out. When flirting, nine times out of ten, it's accidental. More importantly, Astrid is known for being too self-sacrificing. She will beat herself into the ground in order to please and/or protect others, entirely neglecting her own needs in the process. Then there are her issues with bloodlust... Also, while Astrid is skilled in both magical and melee combat (with the former being her specialty), she is quite slow. Archery and pugilism are disciplines she will always fail at.
  6. I was able to make an alt on Gilgamesh. Finally! Thanks for this.
  7. I tend to be very, very wary of using magic in my RP if I'm playing a healer/doctor/medic. So far, I've only played this type of role twice (and both cases are very recent, so I don't have a ton of experience on this front at all). I had an evil character in TERA who was a Priestess. A large majority of actual healing RP I did with her was magic-inclined, but she never tackled any extreme injuries. Her thing was conning people into paying big-time coin for her mediocre services. In that particular scenario, I felt it was okay to have her healing come from magic a majority of the time. She wasn't a 'dedicated' healer, and when she did use her spells, they would actually be pretty darn weak ICly. Now, in GW2, I still (somewhat) currently play a Necromancer who is a doctor. This character has a very strict idea about how she feels magic should be used, and that's sparingly. She primarily uses blood magic to heal others, which is a great sacrifice on her part. I decided to treat this with an "eye for an eye" philosophy. If your character was stabbed in the leg and needed it healed right now, my character could use her blood magic to completely remove the stab wound -- at the price of transferring the wound to herself. This is inconvenient and obviously painful, so about 80% of her work consists of the use of organic, home-made medicines/salves. For poisons, I ask the afflicted player how they want it handled. My character will attempt to create an antidote and the results from that point onward are up to them (or me, should that be what they desire, in which case I will roll on it). The latter character is a lot of fun to RP (not just because of how she handles her magic, but mainly because of her personality paired with a stalwart aversion to heavy reliance upon magic), and I think that is the approach I want to continue to use while RPing healers in the future. I will use naturally-made medicine and tend to injuries in the way anyone would in an old-world setting where magic is absent, but save magic for extreme emergencies. Depending on how extreme the injury is, I will compensate by having my character hurt/exerted pretty significantly in the process. I'm also partial to the healing in particular not being capable of 'insta-cure'. The end result will usually be the wound barely closing and leaving a scar, light/temporary alleviation of pain, slightly speeding up the rate at which a bone fracture repairs itself, etc. I do all of this while keeping an open dialogue with the player of the character being treated, doing my best to keep the experience as interesting for them as possible and catering to their interests/preferences.
  8. I personally I find it very hard to RP only a single character in a MMORPG. This is due to the fact that before I got into roleplaying, I largely wrote my own stories for pleasure, and the kind of stories I love to write focus mainly on character development and interaction. Heck, I've created maaaany more character biographies than I have written the actual stories said characters are supposed to feature in! With that being said, playing only a single character is too constricting for me. I will really get into a character and flesh them out over time quite well... But then, I can't help but wonder how they would act if they came from a different place, were a different race, liked different foods, had a different personality. I typically always have at least two characters. That way if I get tired of one or seek to RP in a different setting/general theme, I can always switch. Only being able to see one story from one character's perspective is not enough to satisfy me. But I do have a rule of never actively RPing more than maybe three characters at a time. I don't want to get overloaded. As for the melee vs magic thing, it never matters to me too much. Whatever class I make them adds some neat quirks and can make for a great RP vehicle, yes. But I never let my characters be defined by what their class is. My characters' decisions, motivations, and traits will mostly be the same regardless of what kind of weapon they wield or what their magical capacity is. Right now, Y'raja is a Bard who used to be a Lancer in the Maelstrom. She has aptitude for Thaumaturgy and is actually rather good at it, but simply began to prefer channeling her aether through her songs as opposed to a staff once she discovered the ability to do so. No matter what she is doing, she loves for her body to be in constant motion. Her shtick of being a vagrant songstress would still be in place if she fought in any other manner. My other character, Astrid, is adept in all things magical. She grew up refining her Conjury and eventually moved on to Arcanima (aside from ice spells, Thaumaturgy isn't really her strong suit). However, she also has a fascination with swordplay and is obsessed with the idea of being a "strong, capable mage". Even if Astrid could only swing an axe and do nothing else, she would still be a (kind of snooty) scholarly knightess type of character.
  9. While I do not find the thread pointless, because there is nothing wrong with theory-crafting and discussion... I am a little confused as to why it came about? The lore already distinctly states how both Miqo'te clans go about mating, so there wasn't really a need for speculation on that front. When it comes to RP, things will not always be so black and white. This I know. But the overly-extensive expansion upon the subject just seems unnecessarily excessive to me.
  10. (Note: I'm going to say 'guild' is this post, but I'm referring to both FCs and LSs.) While I don't necessarily consider it rude (unless they're being very aggressive/insulting), it's not something I would do if I was running a guild. I find it a little bit... tacky, I guess? I like for the guild recruitment and application process to be slightly more formal. If I want to know more about a certain group, then they make it clear in whatever community they're a part of who should be contacted for more info and/or what their website is. Then I can go about exploring those options at my own leisure. These are just my personal preferences, of course. Now, not everyone always goes out looking for gaming communities to join. Not every single person that will be RPing in FFXIV is on RPC or has an Enjin account (some may not even know that either exists). So you have to consider that there will be players who could potentially have /shout as their only way of finding out about such guilds. This goes for non-RP players, too.
  11. If the tank and/or healer has dropped the ball for some reason (or if they're just plain bad), that's completely fine. In that case, if possible, then feel free to do what you need to. I'm only talking about the ACNs who start Topazing or Physicking up a storm when the tank/healer is actually doing just great.
  12. It's too bad that the bulk of the ACN players running around right now are too busy pissing tanks off in dungeons by whipping out their Topaz Carbuncle at extremely inopportune times and/or annoying CNJs by trying to do the job they actually queued for... Topaz Carbuncles is great and all, but unless the tank is horrible or crap has hit the fan for whatever reason? In a dungeon setting, just put it away. We also don't need an ACN spamming Physick all over the place when the party has a capable CNJ. (This is not aimed at anyone in particular, btw. I'm just posting this as general advice for other ACNs.) It's awesome that ACNs can off-tank and heal, but if they could stop surprising everyone in dungeons by trying to do everyone else's jobs for them without any sort of warning, that would be nice. With all that being said, ACNs make fine healers at lower levels. I don't prefer ACN over a CNJ as a healer or vice versa, I'm more concerned with player skill over anything else. But for lvl 50 content, WHM and SCH are the best equipped.
  13. In my personal experience... As long as the lore actually allows for people to take up multiple kinds of magic and/or professions, most treat it as a "you can know everything but only be a master of one" type of thing. So if you want your character to be capable of using Thaumaturgy, Conjury, and Arcanima? That's absolutely fine. But it's good nature to have them only be particularly efficient in (or a master of) one of them. It's too overpowered to have your character to know enough of each of the disciplines to be capable of Black Magic, White Magic, summoning Egis, AND summoning fairies. But could they be a White Mage who can both summon Carbuncle and toss out a Fire spell ICly? I don't see why not. However, you'll certainly tweak things to your own preferences and according to who you're RPing with.
  14. Isis, this is Kis. And you know I love you. I'm definitely interested in this. If there's anything I always love, it's anything Burlesque and Cabaret based. If I'm ever actually able to to get into Gilgamesh SOMEDAY (provided this is still a thing by then/you don't change servers), I'll hit you up.
  15. This sounds well put together and I would want to be a part of it... If I could've made a character on Gilgamesh. But anyway, best of luck to you guys. Perhaps I'll be able to check it out sometime in the future!
  16. Kismet

    Hiya!

I figured that I should make an official introduction thread. My name's Kismet. I like to RP and stuff. I like games. ...Well, now what? Ooh, I know. Here's a video with Miqo'te in it. H_kdeqep8mU
  17. I'm getting the exact same error. At first I was afraid that maybe something got corrupted, but... It was working just fine 10min ago. Now the launcher won't even display anything. Nevermind, it works now! <3

  19. I can only speak for myself, but I plan on RPing the HECK out of Gridania. It's my favorite city-state and the Black Shroud is one of my most favored areas.
  20. When I saw this thread, I instantly thought of the Fates from Greek mythology. There's Clotho, the spinner, who spins the thread of life... Lachesis, the measurer, who chooses the lot in life one will have and measures off how long it is to be... And finally Atropos, she who cannot be turned, who cuts the thread of life with her shears. I think the Fates are like XI:7, the Mysterium, and the Blades respectively. I can't come up with an actual name based on this allusion, but perhaps it will be nice creative fuel to add to the flames for someone else! I really like the symbolism behind Magic Sword, but the name itself is too corny for my tastes. Eorzean/Hydaelyn Hearts is also rather waist-deep in cheese sauce territory... Sorry, but that's just my two cents.
  21. Same. I want to change my char's looks again because I'm not completely happy with it still. I hope we get another chance! X3
  22. Einherjar, you have no idea how much I love your song choices. Seriously. Both of those songs are simply gorgeous. I have a friend who loves the Nier OSTs a lot, but I admittedly never paid too much attention to his posts... Next chance I get, I'm definitely going through those entire soundtracks!
  23. I agree with the idea that this is ridiculously epic! Not to mention that ALL THREE of these guilds are the exact ones that I'm having a really hard time choosing between. I have one friend who already wants to join XI:7, another who wants to join Mysterium (but is considering XI:7), and I'm debating between the Blades and Mysterium... Grrr. T__T
  24. That surprises me. I also wants to know how you know, with the limit cap being 20! They did show 3 kinds of carbys didn't they? In a letter? Even though the level cap was 20, you could still see all of the skills up to lv50 you'll eventually get for the class you currently are in your Actions & Traits menu. There's also this wiki.
