1. While it's been mentioned to visit the Runestone and Grindstone (which personally helped me meet so many amazing characters by now), it can be wall of texty for the first few rounds of combat. Make comments about fighters you're watching, and people will comment back generally because they will defend their friend or favorite fighter. If fighting isn't your, or your character's, style. I would suggest going to a bar/tavern night. You'd be surprised the random people you meet if you're willing to give it a shot. (Fair warning, Bar/Tavern nights can be wall-o-text also along with ALL EVENTS) I can't speak for those FC's, maybe your characters didn't fit the FC's plot/theme and they rejected because of this. Or it could be any number of things as have been mentioned. Quicksand... It's hit or miss at the Quicksand to be honest. If you see an Au Ra in a Yukata sitting at the bar, sit down and see if she says hi to you without prompting. ~.^ It's a rule of thumb for Aoi to greet people when they sit next to her. (Even though I've been MIA as of late doing other plot related stuff on other characters. ) While you're first experiences aren't to great, don't let them deter you from RP'ing if that's what you want to do. I know it can be hard at first, but as people start seeing you repeatively and get to know you, more RP will come. In a twist of FATE, I seem to get more RP when I'm not in a FC. There's a certain freedom to it, but it's not for everybody I know.

Greetings!

The OFFICIAL FFXIV FORUMS are a good place for lore posted by the devs. If you have a lore related, or rp related, question(s) you can ask away on these forums though as there are a few knowledgeable people that lurk around here.

Greetings!

First, welcome to FFXIV and the RPC! I'll reply to any question I can... I PM'd you a recruitment code, along with a link of stuff you get for the code. You still don't need to pick your race for class so feel free to be whatever race/class combo you wish! I'd suggest looking over lore and learning some of the story at least before diving into RP. The adventurers guild in each city state normally has some RP activity, and there's always player ran events you can attend to watch and/or join that you'll find on the calendar on the RPC.
4. Not one to hide what she was doing with her visor, Aoi continued adjusting a set of screws on the inside of the visor. They clearly didn't seem to hold it together, so they must have had another function entirely. With a huff she'd lift the visor up and tap the right side, looking through them, but over her glasses, before returning to adjusting the screws some. It's was a faint flicker, but her shadow seemed to move for a moment before Aoi's lips start to move. It was as if she was speaking to herself, her voice no more then a whisper. "Find her, and leave her unharmed please." Perhaps she was speaking into a linkpearl quickly, despite her hands clearly working the visor in front of her, and no visible linkpearl seen on her person. "What of -him-," she asked, her voice betraying her and giving off a bit of disdain at the thought of some man. Anger and fear mixed on her face as she clearly didn't get the response she was seeking. "My thanks, keep me informed." Her shadow steadied once more and she looked over her shoulder to those in the Quicksand. Women gossiping in the center, the normal guards, and the strange man. Her eyes looked him over a soft smile on her face before turning back around and uttering, "My thanks," as a fresh plate of steak with rice and carrots was set before her. Whatever the reason, her gaze when she steadied the man didn't seem maleficent, or like a person sizing up a possible opponent, it would have been more like a tailor or seamstress sizing a person for clothes.
5. Aoi descended the stairs from the inn room's rubbing her eyes. Her revolver laid strapped to her hip, a snaphance on her back, and wearing her black silk yukata and black long skirt. As she entered the dimly lit hall, she'd take a spot at the bar and lay out a few gil. It was a well practice move by now, and without even uttering an order somebody set some tea in front of her. Even in the dim lighting her white hair and white eyes seemed to glow as she scanned the Quicksand behind her. "Rather peaceful so far," so she to herself out loud before returning to her tea, letting the aroma waft across her nose as she held it there. It'd be a minute after holding her tea that she'd pull out her glasses and put them on, and sip from her tea. Softly she'd set the tea down before pulling out her visor and tinkering with it using a precision screwdriver.
6. Definitely seen that Odessa lurking about... I got my eye on you...:moogle:
7. Okay that's cute... But I feel it wouldn't have a tail? Just because we know Miqo'te children don't? STILL SUPER CUTE!
8. /em uses detect to shred away the stealth! Welcome to the RPC! I think I've seen you walking about on Odessa more then once. Not sure... Maybe you're just a lurker and I have seen that name a few times on different people. Hrmm...
9. Everybody's ear drums if you're like me and blast Fiend non-stop in the inn rooms. I swear I get more noise complaints about blasting Fiend then somebody screaming for being murdered.
10. This is my MCH limit Break macro for LB3: It doesn't get used often. lol Skynet, lend me your infinite power! Now destroy my enemies!
11. Let me tell you about Togy... If you want a laugh go to the Runestone and watch him throw kisses and special heart beams about. You get bonus points when you defeat him with a heart shaped attack of your own as well.
12. Where to find Aoi I like random RP as next as the next person, and I have three events I normally participant in weekly. I try to arrive at these events at least an hour early. When I'm not at any events, Aoi can primarily be located around Ul'dah at this time, but does visit Gridania often. Tuesday (7pm EST): Aoi's a Waitress at the Gilded Rose Tavern Saturday (10pm EST): Aoi's an Overseer, currently, at the Grindstone. Sunday (8pm EST): Aoi is a participant in the Runestone.
13. Nanagi is one whom is lots of fun to be partnered with at the Grindstone. Even when we're being slammed by the injured, she maintains focus on the task at hand putting the patients first, as I want to put it. Easy to work with to speed up patient care is an added plus. 11/10 would let be healer again. Edit: While I know very little of Nanagi, she was a great hostess and is very kind to those around her. Hopefully, someday, they can meet when people aren't turning each other into ground meat, or tables aren't in need of service.
14. Guess I'll make an attempt at one of these... I. Basic Info Characters: Obinata no Aoi Obinata no Yuki Primary character: Obinata no Aoi Linkshells: No RP Linkshells Primary RP linkshell: No RP Linkshells II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): The amount I RP is constantly in flux based on what's going on around me and in RL. I tend to be more of a medium RP'er when averaging it out. There are times where I will RP for days, followed by days of barely RP'ing, so it's always in flux. Views on RP combat and injuries: Injuries short of death are fine, unless a death fight is determined ahead of time. This means you agree your character can die also. I can do both combat systems of freeform and /random and think /random is honestly a bit better as it puts you on a equal footing with the other person and alleviates the worry of one person god modding. Views on IC romance: Romance can and does happen. Long as it feels/looks natural and my character(s) accept it I'm fine with them being romanticly involved. Though be warned my characters don't tend to show their affections as openly as others do. This means they do smaller things to show their affection when in a public setting. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): I never write with extended family ties in mind. Over the course of time my characters may consider others as their siblings or greater. I'd ask anybody wishing to claim themselves some reality of my characters to at least ask me first so I can fill them in on my own background before hand, and see if they even fit the background stuff I have going on. Views on lore: I feel it's important to adhere to lore, but it can be bent. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): It's a personal perference but when I RP in public I use quotes, and will do so also if I have an IC linkpearl/shell. III. Other Info Country: NA Timezone: Eastern (GMT-5) Contact info: Here or in game preferred [glow=blue]~Special announcements can be found in the posts below~[/glow]
15. Okhi is fun to RP with, never know what to expect next when we're passing the time at the bar.
16. Kurt's signatures always make me pause to look at them.
17. Greetings from a random Balmunger! I'll start with the easy to answer question. The server log in queue isn't as bad as it once was. There's not 1k people in line and you can bypass it, most times, by canceling and attempting to enter again. It doesn't always work for a quicker entry, but it gets the job done most of the time. While not an outright writer, I didn't start on Balmung myself and was on a non-rp server. I use to RP with myself and imagine the daily life of my character. The best way I find to draw inspiration is imersing myself and taking it slow when wandering about. I often do this now in character by walking from place to place. You'll see some amazing things when you slow yourself down. Music, movies, anime also helps me whenever I write or want to think of something for my character's background. Drawing inspiration for a 'Doman' character gives you a lot to choose from, and I always found Japanese culture, especially feudal Japan, fascinating. While I wouldn't want to draw on it purely, that's how the background of my character was thought up when writing it. This gets tossed around a lot here, but it's a true statement of Balmung. We have pretty much every kind of RP here you could think of. I'm still waiting for the gundam/mechas to roll down Ul'dah though. Stop slacking! Joking aside... Drawing from your old character might be a slight hinderance if you're having problems thinking clearly on the new character. Only reason I mention this is you mentioned something happening while RP'ing as that character, and I mean no ill-will when I say this but it might be time to let that character go. Focusing on the good of the character means having to accept the bad as well, and many people get hung up on this. While I suggest letting go, and not drawing inspiration from there as Eorzea is such a large place, you by no means need to listen to me. I never RP the same character twice, because it's a personal preference and it doesn't tie me down to past hardships with people in RP. Writing can be tough, and if you ever need help visualizing the area you're thinking about, go there in game and look really hard at it. I did this for writing stories about my character in the past. I feel I breath life into my character, and in doing so they even surprise me sometimes and at other times we end up butting heads. It's an amazing experience though so I keep doing it, and let them run their lives and show me their world. Though we still fight. ^^; I hope I was some help and didn't just ramble non-stop. ~Nodem *modem sounds* P.S. I'm not a modem
18. Well I'm screwed... Since Aoi's child will only be half Au Ra... As for your question, it'd depend how you'd want it to look but there's lots of way to go about it. Even in real life genetics there are dominate and recessive traits. It could be as simple as choosing a dominate side, as mentioned prior. Maybe a super short au ra for half lala? Might explain the 'boy' Fem Auri that we see walking about. This is an area I don't really bother with because it just seems like a massive headache. If you have the child look one way then SE comes out and states "these hybrids looks THIS way!" Now you essentially have to retcon your child's appearance. Just....meh. Not really, because nothing states that all elezen hyur half breeds will look like Hilda. Players will, for obvious reasons, state this is the case and can only be that case. However genetics say that the child could look another way. Nothing to retcon. ^.^
19. Can confirm. An FC member recently got a commission to draw a male Au Ra who used a female character model. That idea intrigued me, but the dimorphism is so intense i had wondered if it was even feasible for a lizard to be "pretty" in the way I'd wanted. I can say one was flat chested (lowest setting possible for Fem au ra's) and walked around in the Best Man's jacket. I admit they did a decent job to get it to a "boy'ish" setting.

Yes, but in this case there's enough difference that you basically have to make it up and then inform others of your interpretation, which means inevitably clashing with others while at the same time risking the official lore overwriting you. It's just not a good idea, but by all means do what makes you happy. What boy Fem Au Ra? I've seen a few female Au Ra walking about with the search comment "Is a pretty boy" or the like. That's what I meant by my boy fem au ra comment. If official lore comes out, I don't think it'll hurt me RP wise or really overide me if people do things differently. Genetics and such. Not everything looks like in a game where we all can, and sometimes do, look alike.

22. I've only heard tales of the mythical Au Ra Bo... But I didn't know they were true... That'd be crazy to see... Au Ra in a chocobo suit?
23. It wasn't often that the Quicksand was loud enough to disturb her from a nap. Today happened to be one of those days though, and it was especially rowdy from the sounds of it. "I shouldn't go see what's happening," she stated talking to herself as she rose from the bed, "but I am." Her yukata was quickly tossed on and her glasses retrieved. It was such a pain waking up evertime and waiting for her eyes, but she wanted to at least see whom was making such a noise. She descended the stairs from the room quickly and sat upon the low wall watching the scuffle as it progressed, a smile playing on her lips. She had a great view from here, and didn't expect anybody to rush up towards her should it get any worse. "Mistress, you shouldn't be here," came a whisper from a shadow near here. Aoi didn't even turn her head as she spoke quietly. "If things get to bad, I got you to protect me right?" An innocent smile played upon her lips as she put a small strip of jerky in her mouth, sucking on it as she enjoyed the show. "As you wish Mistress," came the whisper once more without another word being said.
24. Auladyn seems like a fitting name to me.
