It's one of those themes that end up badly done waaaay more than its done well. But go for it, if you have faith in the idea. Good RP will attract good RPers, no matter what themes you use. No one can tell you how to RP, but you literally can't go wrong if you stick to the lore.

I get that, but at least check it out. There really isn't anything to deal with aside from clipping the mic to the headphones, and you'd be saving $100 if you buy the same quality in a headset. These are my headphones; they're on sale right now and are studio quality: http://www.amazon.com/AKG-240-Semi-Open-Studio-Headphones/dp/B0001ARCFA?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00 And this is a mod mic: http://www.modmic.com/products/modmic-4-0 Just an option.

Gaming headsets are a sham, every one of them. You can buy a nice set of headphones and a mod mic for a fraction of what you'd be paying for the same quality in headset.

I don't plan a character with the intent to kill them, but I'm open to it definitely. That said, I have killed several of my characters throughout my RP career. Some have deserved it, some haven't, sometimes people know OOCly beforehand, sometimes I keep it to myself until it happens. I'd say around... 40% of my serious 'mains' were killed or otherwise died before their time (plus one who actually did die of natural causes).

I enjoy romance, but every time I give it shot in RP, it always winds up being a little disappointing. Maybe it's just me, but it always seems to fizzle or fall off. I much rather write it into a character's background if I involve my characters with another at all.

You aren't! Also, I have a sort of irrational fear that my character won't be taken as seriously because she's not a serious person 90% of the time, or that she'll be seen as the typical eRP-bait because she's flirtatious. -

Got enough of that aesthetic back in the Ragnarok Online days. ToS looks alright, though! -
Goblet residents baffled at crudely drawn burglar's calling cards left in homes after a string of robberies. "I think its a drawing of a raccoon. And a poo."

balmung Street Thief / Burglar in need of marks or contacts!

Ah ha, that's where I recognized the name from. Seen you in the Quicksand before. I'm going to stalk your wiki then get back to you. I'm pretty sure its bad luck to steal from a person with a disability, but hell, Wander is kind of a jerk that way. I'll pop in to the Wayfarer's rest some time -

@Ghostly Maiden: Excellent! I'll look out for you ingame or send you something soon! @Savo: All of this sounds great. Yea, I've been having the exact same problems with my walkups. Fortunately, some have been really great, while others are extremely touchy with the idea of theft. I'm 100% down for the possibility of Wander and Savo knowing each other or at least of each other, too. I'll look out for you ingame. Are you on Skype by any chance? @Whisper: I can work with that. More prospects when I'm not strictly ingame are always good. I'll PM you soon for details. -

Bumping this. So, I'm beginning to find that some people really don't like being stolen from as walk-up, so instead I'm hoping to establish a sort of whitelist for thievery. Anyone whose open to the idea of thefts or attempted thefts against their character or home, please let me know your characters name, general location, as well as your timezone so we can initiate something! And if you only want specific things taken or any such rules, please feel free to let me know. -
Wander's familiar with death. She grew up in Ul'dah and survived via petty theft, so she's seen plenty of friends and acquaintances get hurt or die in that line of work. However, in a way, I think living in the city sheltered her from actually having to do anything. Ul'dah, while dangerous, is relatively stable compared to fringe villages where one might have to hunt for their own food or fend off beast/men. Even if it came down to her vs another, I don't think she'd do it. If she were capable of killing, I think she'd have done it by now, considering she has a foot in the water already as a professional thief.

I think the issue is that a meaningless interaction may as well not even be mentioned, while a significant interaction can be seen as selfish.

If I didn't work weekends I'd so be down for this. Wander would be perfect for this. -

I'm mostly afraid of not doing my character justice. My current main, Wander, is a brash, childish, thieving, unrepentant loudmouth with a penchant for substance abuse while my typical characters are calm introverts. It's hard. I've caught myself slip back into that solitary, polite, 'head-y' mindset more times than I care to admit. I'm sure I'll get it eventually but for now I'm worried she might not come across the way I intend -
Wander watched it escalate from afar. The drinking, the appraising gazes, a healthy dose of bitter, drunken self depreciation and, last but not least, a great big angry Roe all made for a nice distraction. And here Wander thought she'd have to stir up trouble on her own. Most of the other cons, thieves, and pickpockets stayed away from the Sands-- an adventurer's bar often made for angry marks who oh so loved to take things into their own hands. For Wander, it was that very independent pride that made these merc types such easy pickings. Kill a few beasts in the wilds and people think they're kings of their own destinies, but that doesn't stop them from crowding around an escalating fight like everybody else. But now, it was time for fishing, not idle musings. Wander pushes her way toward the crowd. Half-drunken men and women were an almost insultingly easy lift, more so when standing shoulder to shoulder. More so still with an angry, loudmouth Roegadyn mere fulms away. Wander continues to feign attempts to get a closer look at the action, as her hands skillfully relieve each patron of their wallets and purses. Well, perhaps not him; he did look a touch scary. And, well, maybe not her either; Wander wasn't sure she'd outrun that one.

Oh hey, that's exactly what I'm looking for, I suppose I didn't search very well But thanks! And thanks to Sounssy should she encounter the thread.

Hey guys, my character is a padjal and... Alright, alright, put away the pitchforks, I'm kidding! But I do need some info for a frame of reference for an upcoming plot arc. Mostly, I'm hoping to find out how exactly the process works. As far as I'm aware, Padjals are just midlander hearers who are, for some reason, chosen by Elementals to be Padjal. But when are they chosen? Are they born with the horns and the inability to age past adolscence, or do they just stop aging when they're picked and start sprouting horns? What is the Gridanian government's role in the process? Since they exist essentially on the Elementals' good graces, I would assume they're invested in ensuring the process goes smoothly. Would Wailers show up on my doorstep to take away my newborn? And finally, in regards to the padjal themselves. Do we know of anything specific in regards to a candidate's (for lack of a better term) state of mind during the process? Do the Elementals tell the hearer that they're going to be a padjal, or perhaps force them to understand/accept it? I know these are highly specific questions, but if there's any hard data on the topic, I'd really appreciate it!

...you try to extrapolate the base effects of Eorzean crafting components based on what they're used to make in the crafting menu just in case you ever have to make/explain an item in character. And then you realize goddamn, I'm not a fucking alchemist. ...you don't RP a character until you're 100% sure you have their mannerisms and/or speech patterns down because the mental anguish of goofing your own character makes you want to sepukku in shame. So you have a conversation with yourself while pretending to be this fictional person you made up. ...your character begins to bleed into real life. Not emotionally, but you begin to react to things and situations and things twice: once as you, and once as your character. ...you write solo and the banter isn't good enough and you delete it out of shame, but you don't have the balls to share it in the first place.

Sometimes I feel like a pushy tryhard about RPing with people and planning plots. Its reeeally hard to tell if people are actually into it without face to face cues to go off of, and it drives me crazy wondering. Then on the flipside, sometimes I just want some alone time and don't want to talk to anyone, and I come off as moody or suddenly uninterested. Its just a break, I promise >< -
Honestly, I can't say which I prefer, and that's mostly because I generally don't enjoy MMO stories at all. For what they have to accomplish and what they're working with, MMO writers (and game writers in general) do a great job, but there's just too much working against them to truly write something exceptional. Suffice it to say that the well being of the game trumps the story in 99% of cases and because of it, the narrative will never be great. One can write a wonderful 'chosen one' arc just like one can write a 'random person' arc in any other medium. Either way, both will wind up being not very good or engaging when saddled with a game. In my opinion, of course.

I was sad about Payday as well, till I got a hold of Vermintide. But yea, not the greatest year I'll admit. Most of my favorites are indies or smaller budget, like aforementioned Vermintide, Darkest Dungeon, Invisible, Inc., and the like. MGS5 was fine play-wise I guess, and FO4 will be good once Bethesda releases the GECK for modders. Other than those, I think I played older backlog releases more than actual new titles. That makes me a little sad.

Cloud is to be in Super Smash Bros!
Coda replied to Altitis Acquired's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Goodness. Might as well rename it Super Sword Bros at this point. In any case, this sort of cooperation between publishers is nice. Usually the biz is so insanely possessive over IPs, so it's good to see that they're willing to break the rules for the sake of the fans. Even if the character is massively played out -
Well, if we're all doing it.
