  1. *waves* Welcome to the community!
  2. Uldah does seem to have folks in there but I don't always hear people talking when I'm running through (and I don't have an IC reason to go there at the moment). This could either be that people are actually afk or they might be talking in a different channel like party or a linkshell. I honestly haven't a clue how some folks do it. I'm used to RPing in wow were we did everything in /say. The best way I've found to get started with RP though are the events that folks run. The open tavern RP is probably some of the easiest to jump in on as long as you're willing to put yourself out there. Those are typically in the residential zones at someone's estate. The Pub crawl last week was FUN though and that was open rp that went from Uldah through the shroud then up to Dragonhead. I know there is a holiday ball, taverns, and some fighting tournaments coming up in the next week or two.
  3. Don't sweat it. Use this time to grind up your MSQ. Also, higher level = more gear to wear for RPz! I swear I'm going to have to level up a bard just for the cool outfits they get! To be honest i wanted to wait until my characters are on the right server before starting my "adventure" If that's what you want to do then go for it! There isn't much to it though. Most of the RP I've found has been in the residential areas (some have been in the major cities but not a whole lot) which you have to be lvl... um.. 15? to unlock. 30ish is when you get to go to the other major cities. ICly I had to get out of the major starting city because do to class restrictions I had to start in Uldah, but ICly I was in Limsa, bummer. Also, there is another thing. If you like the Japanese stuff at all you'll want to hit lvl 30 before the end of the month to get the Maiden's Rhapsody even rewards. A set of red ninja/samurai inspired glamour armor. When I made Nef I had like two-three days to get to 30 to finish the Halloween even and get my broom mount before it was over. Unlike WoW it doesn't seem like the previous year's rewards are brought back for the holiday events. Those items seem to be eventually released on the Mogstation about the time the following year's event is about to start. Not sure yet but from what others have told me that's how it seems to work here. Something to keep in mind. In any case your wait will be over soon!
  4. yea, I saw she snuck on after maintenance the other day. *waves to RantzOn* Welcome to the community! Hope you are able to get on as well.
  5. *waves* Yet another WoW Convert! Woo! Welcome and hope you have a lot of fun with us. Lots of good RP events coming up. Maybe we'll see you there.

  7. Ok I hope I'm not overstepping but this has been a frequent strain in the new posts and considering I just went through this myself, I thought it might help anyone stopping by to see some info on just what is going on with Balmung, or at least what we think is. Also this will probably also apply to Gilgamesh and any other restricted server. First off, YES.. Balmung is pretty much under permanent character creation restrictions. Why? Lots of stipulation from sheer volume of traffic to possible Square-Enix actually being the first gaming company to like RPers (doubtful). So the question remains, How does one get a character created on Balmung? Option 1: Try to log in and create your character immediately after server maintenance or a server crash. Reports are that it is almost always done -EARLY- so that is when you'll have to do it. If you wait till scheduled up time then it's likely TOO LATE. No guarantees though. or Option 2: Create your character(s) on an open server. Wait the 3-4 days required (I suggest grinding your MSQ so you at least have the airships and travel between cities unlocked) and pay the $18-20 to transfer your character(s) onto Balmung using the Mogstation. Everyone I know who has done this has succeeded. I've not heard of a single report of this failing. (Note: I believe you can transfer up to 8 characters on the same server to another so if you are even considering making alts, even for retainer space, do so NOW.) Some people think that it's not worth it to transfer over, but I will tell you one reason why I thought it was worth it: goldsellers! Consider the transfer fee a "goldseller removal tax" (which is sad). On Cactuar you either are in /busy, use a mod, or turn off tells all together. After getting onto Balmung? I have gotten a total of 3 random FC/Friend invites in the 3+ weeks I've been on here. That's it. No spam in whispers or say. It's... peaceful. We could go into why the servers are always restricted but that's not the purpose of this thread. I hope this helps others.
  8. *waves* Welcome fellow WoW Convert! I can honestly say the server transfer fee was totally worth it. Though looking back I almost wish I had made a few more alts to go with my main but oh well! Hopefully we'll see you around! If you decide you want to play a ninja feel free to poke me or you might see me around the 'guild hall'.
  9. Ok so I spent the last two days working on this but I finally have the first part of my character bio done. Actually I have two... the first quick and dirty one I tried to make when I created Nef's tumblr and then the one that I found off deviant art and just.. maybe 5 mins ago, finished getting posted. If anyone could take a gander at it that would be lovely. I know I'm forgetting stuff that should be on there. Some stuff like personal history I'm still filling out so that's not complete. A bit of it is stream of consciousness so it's a little rough around the editing. All in all it's out there now and it's helped me really get better into Nef's headspace. Here is the linkage! http://nefzenffxiv.tumblr.com/post/134871994383/abridged-character-sheet After I get this cleaned up better I'll get around to putting up a wiki page.
  10. Oy! You must 'ta been the gent in the awesome hat! It was a great night for sure! Can't wait for the next pub crawl. I've already hit up a few things, looking forward to the ball and the tavern rp on Thurs and Saturday.
  11. Just face it Sana. All of this is your fault. Everything. How did all of this start again? Sana: You know I've been getting the roleplay itch again. Yea.. WHO was it that started RPing her first? Who said "Let's so something kinda together"... LOLZ! THough really we should do some more filling in the blanks before we have to do "Quick, text Sana and see what happened with *blah*!" (yes, that did happen in RP last night... it's tricky playing family members!)
  12. I. Basic Info Characters: Nefzen Zhwan, Marysue Redshirt, Peajeania Lunenoire Primary character: Nefzen Zhwan Linkshells: RP Event Notices Primary RP linkshell: none II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Medium mostly, though if the stars align I'll go for a 5+ hr heavy session. Sadly IRL responsibilities prevent that most of the time anymore. Views on RP combat and injuries: Getting hurt is FUN! That being said I honestly prefer noncombat situations. Talking one's way out of combat is just as fun. I severely dislike using pvp for RP combat. I view RP as a shared living, breathing novel and if no one get's hurt then the story is boring. If it makes for an exciting story, then all the better. Views on IC romance: While idealistically one would say "Anything for a better story" I realize that we are human and some people have problems separating RP from IRL (many many moons of MMO RP has taught me this). In no way am I against them but one must tread carefully. In the case of ERP, that's between those involved. As long as it's kept private, no laws are broken and everyone is a consenting adult that's fine. Fading to black is perfectly fine as well. The point of RP is that everyone is having fun. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Family RP is great as long as those playing the family keep in contact and no one makes sweeping changes to their joined background without consulting or at least notifying the other players. In fact, two of my friends are playing Nef's siblings! Not sure what the 'etc' is referring to in this question.*scratches head* Views on lore: Lore is a tricky situation. I prefer to stick with it as much as possible but turning into the 'lore police' can drive others away, especially new RPers. Resources like this website with links to lore are awesome, but not all lore is available and at some point you are making it up as you go along. I like to view Lore as a good framework to use, but it needs to be flexible to handle everyone's RP. Some new players might break lore unknowingly. At a certain point you can try to give them the resources to help them make their RP more inline with the established lore, but if they choose not to do so.. I won't shun them for it. In previous situations where someone had fantastical claims (("yes I'm a half dragon half god time traveling vampire")) and didn't want to budge I simply ICly nodded at them, smiled, and privately thought they were crazy (my character not me). This actually can lead to some rather hilarious RP! Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): I'm used to open world RP done in /say and emotes, reserving /party or other channels for OOC communications. I like the idea of someone being able not only to eavesdrop but also walk up and join and have met some of the greatest people ever doing so. With linkpearls being a lore established thing I can see using LS/FC chat ICly in that 'long distance walkytalky" way. However moving entire RP scenes happening in the open to back channels... if people wish to do so they can but it's not my preference. I dunno how things are typically done in FF14. III. Other Info Country:USA Timezone: Central (GMT -6). However I have lots of freetime during the early day 9am-1pm. Contact info:Contact me here on the forums, ingame (tells/mail), or on my tumblr. 13. It really is worth it. When I'm on Cactuar, if I'm not in /busy then I'm getting spam just about constantly. Everyone I know have simply turned off tells. Heck I was in LImsa the other day and /say had a constant flow of a bot spamming until I bothered to blacklist it. I really wish there was a "right click/report spam" feature in FF14. It really is worth it to transfer. That being said, you have to wait like 3-4 days after character creation before you can transfer anyway. I made Nef during the Halloween event and pushed to 30 to get the event out of the way before transferring (I wanted my broom!). I think it was a great thing to already have all the cities unlocked, access to the residential districts, etc. Then I don't feel like I'm missing out on any RP events because I'm stuck in my MSQ. As for the Queue, The most I've had to wait to get in is like 5 mins and that was at a peek time. Usually I don't have to wait at all.
  14. Actually... I don't think they are 'crowded' but simply locked... and this is a good thing. Have you been on a regular server and started getting spam tells for gold sellers? ads in say, shout, etc? Random friend and FC invites? If not, just wait, because you will. On the locked servers? Nope. We are FREE from spam!! (Aside from the occasional person/fc) Frankly, to me that's worth $18. I can use my tells, don't have to be in /busy for some peace and quiet. I wish there was a free way to keep out the goldsellers, but alas.. there is not.
  15. Cool. Hopefully we might meet up sometime. I'm actually logging in tonight.
  16. Greetings everyone! Fairly new around these parts and I was wondering if anyone knew of any RP groups with a focus around the Rogues guild or something of that nature, preferably based in Limsa or Mist. And by Rogue's Guild I'm meaning like the actual Rogue's Guild you get your class quests from. For me the idea of that noble yet mischievous archetype is appealing with my character. I'm not looking for criminal rp. Rather the opposite. Upholders of The Code, investigators, spys, etc. That just sounds fun to me. If there isn't any already going would anyone be interested in getting some started?
  17. The whole idea of "The Code" and the way the guild is portrayed in the class quests really appeals to me and I think would fit well with my character. Things like information dealing and investigation as well as the occasional enforcing just seems like it could have a lot of potential. Awesome! Look forward to hearing from you. ^^
  18. Moonlighting for now. I like my group but I'm not a hardcore raider or anything and actually prefer RP so it's likely that as time goes on I'll be spending more and more time on Balmung than Cactuar. I'm kinda hoping to find some daytime RP groups so I can equally split my time.
  19. Greetings folks! I've been poking around FF14 for awhile now over on Cactuar but a couple of my friends started RPing on Balmung and honestly I've been missing some RP since I left WoW oh so many years ago. --MMORPG background *scratches head* Lemme see.. i think my first MMO was City of Heroes right after it first came out. Used to have huge lan parties and we'd do group stuff together. Holy cow that was a long time ago. Not too long after that though I managed to get into the Open Beta on WoW and fell in love. I've always been a more Fantasy person. Played that for YEARS. Sometimes on sometimes off. I'm totally burned out on it now. Dabbled in NWN on a few servers. AION, Ryzom, Star Trek Online, Guild Wars 2, Wildstar, SWOR, EvE.... tried them all over the years. Nothing really stuck for long till my SO badgered me to try FF14. It's the first game since vanilla WoW that's felt like home. Looking forward to many years of fun playtime. --RP experience Well.. I first started RPing WAAAAAAYYYY back in late 80 early 90s with the RollMaster and MERP Pen and Paper games. I've tried a lot of those over the years as well. Online... I never tried that until a few years into WoW when I got bored with Raiding and realized I was on an RP server so decided to see what it was about. That.. that was life consuming in such a good way. But like a lot of people WoW got dull and I quit playing about the same time a lot of other folks did. Quit is such a harsh word though.. more like retired. Still have contacts in the RP scene there. Tried some NWN on a few persistent worlds. Life got in the way for many years but now I'm finding myself with freetime again. Wee! --Character ideas/info Nefzen is the youngest daughter in her family. One older sister (Sana) and four brothers (Erah'sae being one of them). She's always been a bit of a wild child and seems to take quite a bit of enjoyment out of tormenting her youngest brother. Personality-wise she's very much like a comedic anime character with aggression issues, but trust me I don't do it over the top. After her brother and sister both left home Nefzen wasn't about to stick around and let them have all the fun. She wants to explore the world, have adventures, and make sure her good for nothing baby brother doesn't get himself killed. She is currently staying in Limsa Lominsa, hanging out around the Fishermen's Guild and been seen nosing around the Dutiful Sisters of the Edelweiss. That being said I'm on the lookout for anyone doing any Rogue's Guild based play. While mechanically she's already a 'ninja' she isn't one ICly. --How did you learn about the coalition? Sana and Erah'sae... I blame them for everything. ;-) --What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy? Right now I'm fairly light. I still have my character on Cactuar not to mention IRL responsibilities that can tear me away at a moment's notice. That being said I take my RP seriously but for enjoyment. I do this to have fun, but having fun can be a serious thing too. I used to do some serious heavy RP on WOW and NWN (+8hr rp sessions anyone?). I'm used to Open RP but I'm not used to how things are done here on FF14 yet. I honestly haven't run into anyone except a few groups while I was out questing (people pick the strangest spots to rp around here sometimes...) Also, is there any EST Daytime RP that goes on? While I can do evenings I have loads more free time during the day. Mmm that's all I can think of for now. Any questions?
