  1. *waves* Welcome to the RPC! Hope we can cross paths ingame sometime.
  2. *waves* Welcome to the RPC! Glad to have you here and hopefully we can cross paths at some point.
  3. *waves* Welcome to the RPC and to FFXIV! I strongly suggest delving into the Wiki and other lore links in your spare time. While no one is expected to know the lore 100% I find it helps new players ease into things a bit more when they feel comfortable at least with their own racial lore. It helps get a better feel of what that character's motivations and history would be. If you have any questions about something always feel free to ask in the character workshop forum. That's what it's there for!

  5. Just my two cents to you and anyone else who feels this way... quite frankly I -love- finding people who play 'simple' characters. Why? Because they almost invariably are some of the most interesting people to RP with. Having an awesome backstory is cool and all, but it can also be a crutch or even a weight to bring you down. Starting simple and just BEING can make your character's personality just shine through because there is no... preconceived notion of who they are based on what they are? Dunno if that makes sense. When I first started RPing... back in the old days before there were MMOs or even forums (anyone remember Rollmaster or MERPS?) I would so over analyze and make almost a novel for my character's backstory. But when things came right down too it.. 90% of it wasn't used or even mattered for the campaign. Occasionally the DM would bring in a few ties or something, but over all it was a waste of time and I spent too much time going "how does this fit with my character and their backstory?" As you can tell *prods her wiki page* I really don't do that anymore. I've got some stories and whatnot, but it's all actually come after I started RPing and figuring out who Nef was though interacting with people. But that's lead to it's own insecurities in that with so little of Nef posted that maybe folks just don't take her, or I as a player, as a serious RPer. Doesn't' help that with the holidays I've had IRL stuff keeping me from logging in and RPing, and when I do log in it feels like I've "just missed" everyone. Then I have to stop myself. It's freaking christmas... I'm not the ONLY one who's having IRL intrude on RP. Just trying to make myself be patient is HARD though. >_<;;

  7. I get like that too at times. That "damn, I'll be interrupting" feeling. Some days, I just say screw it and stick my nose right in the middle of their crew. Oh sometimes I do that too. Fortune favors the bold because then you sort of realize that the worst that could happen is they brush you off as a whole and you're back to square one. @u@-b I look at it like this: Watch the scene they are doing. Is this something that looks like it would be perfectly IC for someone to stumble in the middle of? Like people just sitting/standing around chatting? Or are they actually DOING something? If they are just chatting, i'll frequently barrel in, at least on Nef, cause that's what she does. It's kinda like sticking your foot on the door and then just waiting for them to either open it, ignore it, or shut it. Just try to, no matter what happens, make sure I don't take it as an ooc slight because sometimes you just can't keep up with everyone/everything. If there is "WALL-o-TEXT" going on it might be best to send a whisper beforehand. Oh.. that wall-o-text.. bane of our RP existence. It's wonderful because it means there is so much going on but it makes everything so hard to keep up with. I'm always frantic trying to make sure I don't miss someone's posting, but it can be easily missed when someone tries to join in the convo. I dunno about everyone else but my screen is completely covered with text boxes while I'm RPing. I don't always SEE what folks are doing so if I don't respond PLEASE PM ME!!
  8. You know, I get out here and go "Where IS everyone? We're a little late but not THAT late..." Then it is pointed out that I'm in a different timezone... half hour early not late. LOLZ!
  9. I think I can echo what just about everyone else is saying in that I really worry sometimes how Nef comes off. IRL I'm very much a loner, wall flower type who has no idea how to interact with 'normal' folks. Get me around a bunch of fellow geeks and it's not a problem but, sadly, one can't always choose who you have to socialize with. When I decided to start RPing in FFXIV I drew from over 10 years of Roleplaying experience to fashion a character who could basically interact with anyone and rationalize being anywhere at any time. Those super serious, antisocial characters might have interesting backgrounds and be great for plots, but just regular socializing.. yea.. not so much fun. Even if you have a regular crew to run with there are times when your schedules don't line up and if you don't have those folks around, that type of character is just really a struggle to play. (I've done it... had whole circles of an RP community I couldn't interact with because they would literally try to kill my character, for good reason too.) Been there done that and didn't bother getting the t-shirt. Next! So I made Nef. A Rogue, finder of lost things, and fishercat. ;-) She likes to drink, is boisterous, and just overall a (hopefully) fun person to be around. Someone who will go to just about any event... just to go, especially if there might be (free) booze involved. My hope is that once you sit down with her and she starts talking that folks realize she DOES have depth and isn't just a drunk party girl. But it's always so hard to tell. One of the things that I like doing is having a good OOC social channel to talk to folks. Getting to know the -player- behind the character helps me, at least, separate what the character does and who the player is. Sometimes it's so much fun to sit back and kibitz what our own characters are doing. I've had whole scenes where me and the other players involved were either laughing our butts off at our character's stupidity or bashing our heads against the wall at their idiocy. It seems to help especially if it's a tense/aggressive situation. Maybe some folks don't like that break in immersion, but after years of those insecurities cropping up I found that the benefits far outweigh any break in immersion and make the whole RP experience better overall for it. Each to their own though. There's probably books I could write about this but dinner is waiting.
  10. btw that link doesn't work for others. what's your actual tumblr link?
  11. Due to driving a 6+ hr car trip (the last hour with horrendous weather too) i wasn't able to go. ;_; Hope it was fun!
  12. A Falconer's Shirt (Dyable) A Fat Cat Minion A Thavnairian Bustle I can't use the other stuff since i don't have a house/room...
  13. currently on vacation. Hoping to be there but depends on IRL stuffs.
  14. I'm hoping to be there and drag as many of my friends as possible but i'm on vacation so depends on IRL stuff.
  15. Ah I didn't see this till 7pm est and you were already logged off I think. If you see me feel free to poke me or just PM me here on the forums.
  16. Can always try cross posting this to Tumblr if you want.
  17. Nef would be down for some eggnog drinking games.. but sadly I probably won't be able to be ingame as I'll be driving all day. >_< I'd suggest things that encourage interactions between players. too bad FFXIV doesn't have ugly xmas sweaters. I just ate a really good dinner so I'm really sleepy, and thus am having trouble thinking. Any suggestions for good interactive things? I'd love to hear some and implement them! Hrm.. some things I've seen some folks do are things like competitions, I heard one group is doing a scavenger hunt (maybe group 2-4 people and they have to figure out the clues together), a dance off (could be tricky since some dances are quest/seasonal rewards and not everyone might have them), I could probably come up with some others but the rules would be a bit complicated and I probably wouldn't have them done intime. I dunno why but something like gingerbread house making or bringing an artistic dish. very subjective as it would just be an emote-off.
  18. I had a great time last night! If anyone is interested I got a few icam shots. It wasn't cooperating much not to mention couldn't take many while dealing with the WALL-o-TEXT. Did you know that the icam considers each object in a player house an NPC? I get shots of everything from the NPCs to... cakes and furniture. GO FIGURE! So wish there was a key to cycle to the next icam shot. Pictures are HERE on my tumblr.
  19. I actually have Nef having adopted the Coeurl Kitten an IC thing because that's so totally her. This creature that is a DANGEROUS WILD ANIMAL loves to go fishing with her. So far I haven't used it IC (bringing a pet to a bar might get her kicked out and/or cut drinking time) but it's in her history.
  20. That's what a lot of us (myself included!) ended up doing. FYI when you transfer you can bring like up to 8 characters from the same server at the same time so I suggest making alts as well as your main. I wish I had done that if only for the retainer space!! Hope we can cross paths after you get on the server!!
  21. *waves* Welcome to the RPC!! Nef is a keeper who has left home after getting fed up with their stuff as well so she knows where Tallis is coming from. The lack of a Seeker clan designation can be perfectly IC if they have cut ties and gone clanless. If you are looking for any more racial lore info THIS POST is a great place to start. Hope we cross paths sometime!
  22. *waves* Welcome to the RPC!! If you are looking for a good place to start on lore there are quite a few resources. First I would suggest THIS POST and look up your race history. Up at the top of the page is a link to the wiki which has a timeline going up to the beginning events of A Realm Reborn. While some folks are super stickler for lore I've found that most are not. It's good to have at least a basic grasp of it if only to help with character development. If you have any questions you can always ask in the character workshop or the ffxiv discussion forums. Hope we can cross paths sometime!!
