We have a lot of great things both planned and currently playing out - lighthearted / social events and Aeon specific plots. This is a small, tight-knit community driven FC where we all work to weave together interesting and immersive stories all centered around an overarching plot line. We have player run events often, near weekly right now with all of the plots taking place, that cater to EU and NA time zones - Most often beginning around 11am PST / 2pm EST / 18:00 GMT Sunday. Our core group spans from GMT+1 all the way to GMT-8, with everything in between. A big welcome to our new members from last cycle: Gunjin, Morgana, and Rowan! Everyone else gave good advice. Once RP stops being fun and starts to make you feel depressed it's time to move on to something else. Talk with your IC partner and let them know how you're feeling. Give the option of either chilling out and letting you go back to doing things that you normally enjoy or cutting the RP with them completely. There is absolutely no reason why a pretend relationship should cause you so much grief. Take care of yourself and do what you need to do to be happy again. If they are a true friend they will understand!

I think it would be easier to help you out if you were able to give a better idea of what you want. There are a number of FC's that fit those generic requirements, you can probably just shout and get three or four offers. What type of character do you like to play and what type of RP interests you the most? Like the other person in this thread, if you enjoy tavern RP there is a good handful of them out there. If you would rather have a mercenary theme there's another dozen. Slice of life? Some sort of central story? A good portion of the RPC does open world RP or has IC linkshells and might not utilize FC chat at all. I would suggest attending open invite events and meeting people! Try making a few connections, either through posts here or just random RP out and about. You don't need to be bound by a FC in order to RP.

The countdown to Aeon's Recruitment Cycle Closing has begun! We will be closing our doors at the onset of March 15th in order to allow our new (and not-so-new-returning) members to settle in and make a name for themselves within the FC. We have a myriad of plots and stories that have begun to unfold and countless surprises in store for the Branded. We often hold events mid-day EST on the weekend to accommodate as many members as possible. Evenings and nights are usually filled with RP. You've been given some very sound advice and lore links here already. Something else to take into consideration - What type of RP are you looking for? Are you more of a casual or serious RPer? Do you just want to have some day-to-day interactions with random people or something more in depth with a set group? If you choose the White Mage route you will get some serious side-eye from certain circles that might even just ignore you all together. That's the plain and simple truth. Others won't care at all because they write equally 'lore breaking' characters themselves or simply don't care. Some of the more in-between groups will just think your character is a little off the wall or might not take them as seriously as you might want. At the end of the day you are paying your own subscription fee and writing your own choose-your-adventure story. Do you want to fit in and conform to the more narrow view of strict lore-followers or go with the more free flowing crowd? Both are great in their own respects.

Oh, oh! Your character is -very- similar to mine. Feel free to hit me up! Aurou is a Conjurer and journalist from Sharlayan proper, very easy to get along with. She's often found around Ul'dah and recently Ishgard. We can work some sort of background out if you'd like, she currently has no connections whatsoever back home - few people touch Sharlayan lore..

You've been given good advice here. I also agree that 5 minutes is pretty short. I work on computers for a living and can type fairly quickly! RP, on the other hand, takes me around 2-4 minutes for a reply most times (I know this because timestamps). If it's a very detailed response, if I have some sort of background distraction, if I'm tired, etc. it can take even longer. I always welcome people sending a /tell: ((Hey! Can I join in?)) ((Are you free to RP?)) Hell, even just ((hi)) will get my attention. Even if you don't see a bunch of chat scroll, the other person might be having an in-depth conversation on their end in another channel.

My biggest insecurity is that I have a huge fear of public speaking - making a mistake, saying the wrong thing, being judged on the topic at hand, being disregarded, not being given a fair chance.. the list goes on and on - and this fear easily transitions over to my RP. I'll often second guess what I'm typing before hitting enter, rethink and retype, even completely scrap things because I worry "Maybe this isn't right" or "No, this is stupid". It leads to longer posting time, which leads to anxiety on my end that my RP partner(s) think I'm ignoring them or not taking things seriously. It's a horrible cycle. Once I get to know people a bit better it's easier for me, but it still happens. Metagaming. Why, oh, why? Because of my aforementioned fear of the spotlight, I tend to favor more supporting role-type characters. I'll work in little quirks or things into their backstories that most people won't just know after seeing my character or talking to them once or twice. I put a lot of thought into some smaller details that will come out naturally over time with RP. Character fears or very specific history aren't advertised on an IC billboard. People confusing or blurring the lines between OOC and IC. My character is very friendly and bubbly. She'll flirt a little to get conversation going - and that's where it ends. That does NOT mean to start spamming me with OOC tells whenever you see me. On the other end of the spectrum, if my character thinks that your character is an arse that doesn't at all that I think you as the player are. If there's ever any confusion on my OOC feelings, I wish that people would simply ask and not assume.

Balmung is great! Just look at any of the community events posted, there's usually screenshots that the hosts post of the whole thing after it's happened. Open world RP is always happening, and if you're a little more shy than that there are FC's and LS's for just about everyone. From casual and newer RPers to the more hardcore and strict to everything in-between, you really can find it all. (Sounds kinda like a sales pitch, doesn't it?) IF you're lucky you can sneak a character on as soon as servers open after maintenance. I would wholeheartedly suggest a transfer, though, if you're truly after RP. Make all of the alts you want beforehand and transfer everyone over for the one-time cost.
