Yes. Purebloods are the Garleans with a third "eye" on their forehead (which presumably works like a Tuatara's third "eye"), and an inability to use magic naturally.

I believe it is only when you come from one of the higher pop realms. New character benefits will still come into effect, though, like the 100% extra xp and the silver feathers.

Hi, hello, etc., I'm returning to the RPC after a few months of being really busy with real life things, and have decided to look at Mateus in light of the growing community there and the (abysmal) queues for Balmung during the early weeks of Stormblood.

Mateus seems like a good bet, and hopefully a smaller (initial) community will be a little easier to enter for those who get anxious like myself.

I feel like they're blowing a lot of potential content out all at once. I thought this was supposed to be the expansion for liberating Ala Mhigo and focusing on Monks, but it seems like it's now the Ninja/Samurai expansion with maybe a tiny little bit of freeing Ala Mhigo if we really want to.

Well, I'm not necessarily "new" (I made a thread in this section a little over a year ago), but I am starting up with Final Fantasy XIV again, this time with a subscription (and not the free month), as I've found that despite not having designated "RP servers" like Warcraft, Square is far better to their RP community than Blizzard has been in the past year. Unnecessary reasoning aside, I've been playing for about a month, now, and have caught up on the main quest, and so I'm looking forward to start RPing when I've finished figuring out my character (hopefully soon).

Think of it like this: if you break a leg badly, they have to put it in a cast because if they don't set the bones properly, you heal incorrectly and your leg is messed up because it becomes misshapen. Even with things like magical healing, if you had a broken leg and healed it without properly setting it, you'd probably end up with a messed up leg, at least internally.

Alternatively: Studious Highlander is banished from Ul'dah for possessing ancient texts related to Black Magic, proceeds to enter city disguised via a pair of spectacles. It works.

This is a question that gets asked a lot, but unfortunately there's no one satisfying answer to give you. "Officially" less than a year has passed. Unofficially, roleplayers all measure the passage of time differently, with most aligning their rp with real time passage. A more in depth answer can be found in the link below. I've seen someone mention (I can't recall who) that they work around the recently added restriction to Dragoon numbers by saying they are able to jump similarly to a Dragoon by way of their lance housing Air aspected crystals.

So I know that at the time of ARR starting, it had been twenty years since the Ala Mhigo was annexed by Garlemald. How much time has passed between the start of ARR and 3.5? Did the lorebook give any sort of timeline for the more recent events (although I guess it wouldn't have stuff from 3.5)?

I've searched the past few pages of topics and not really found anything on the subject, but it seems like it's something I should figure out now before developing a character and then needing to rework a large part of their backstory. That said, I'm not so much looking to have it for meta-gaming and knowing someone's backstory, but more just to avoid Tempering and workaround the possible language barriers we never really see in game (because of the Echo).

One of the quests in the build up to fighting titan involves getting coeurl skins to help provide a Garlean deserter money to try affording passage out of Eorzea. It was from the Lalafell in Wineport.
