Seeking active, social and engaging LS for friendship, connections and fun!
Gar replied to Dravus's topic in FFXIV Discussion
My wife actually just started a brand new social LS for RPers (The Tavern). We've always had our FC's OOC LS, but we wanted something more open and less linked to certain FCs. We're in the process of copy/pasting all our friends and allies into it, so its not majorly huge at the moment, but there are RPers who love to meet new people and do content. If you have questions about it or would like an invite let me know. You can send me a message here or catch either me or my wife in game. (Garryson Shipkeeper or Aireiel Shipkeeper). Either way, I wish you the best of luck with building connections. We're in sorta the same boat at the moment, and I know how sometimes it can be a bit daunting. -
Hello, RPC. So my wife and I are starting to look for new people to RP with. I've been a bit stubborn about going out there to make new connections. I'll be completely honest and straightforward, I've been running a FC/LS since Beta and I'm tired of having to babysit drama llamas. I have a deep love and loyalty to this community, but we all know RP communities can attract people who just make problems for the sake of making problems. That's where I'm at. I refuse to sit in the Quicksand for any amount of time. There are a lot of great people that RP there, and I've met some really cool people on occasion. But I am too tired and cynical right now to listen to people talk about slave trading and assassinations in the middle of a heavily guarded city. (Criminal RP is fine, do your thing . Its fun! But announcing criminal intent to large bodies of people and expecting no consequence just feels a bit... off?) Anyways. So we're looking for people who want to make some new connections. We're also thinking of looking into some just general mass RP LSs to cast a wider net of possible RP. We also love helping people with dungeons/content/whatever. Doing the relic chain, for instance, has become like candy to us. We haven't had many people to help level or gear for a while so we're getting a little itchy to latch onto virginal newbs and give them our sweet sweet XIV knowledge juice. I apologize if anyone feels a tinge of offense at any of my rants/jokes. Its really not my intention. I just want to be up front about how burnt out I am. I absolutely love this game and I've pushed through some horrible times to keep playing and hold out for great memories. So reply to this thread, send me a PM, or hit me up in game on Garryson Shipkeeper. I want to meet you. Despite my cynicism, I want to be your friend. I want to be someone who you can ask for help. I look forward to getting to know you.

We're RPers, imagination is sort of part of the deal. The game is limiting on what we can use. Honestly, I don't think there's a single mount that would be "lore breaking" if you did it right. You already said you don't intend to ride Sleipnir. If you want him to be a black horse, then he's a black horse. Obviously there are certain lines of lore that can be crossed that make you think the person can't RP in the world they're given. But at the same time, I think there is a lot more room for creative ideas that still fit with the lore. If people are going to turn their nose up at you because you're on a mount that they make assumptions about, that's their problem isn't it? RP requires explanation. Our characters have things about them that the game can't show. Its like if a character lost their arm, but someone goes "But I see their arm right there in game." Have fun. Be creative. That's what RP is about.

If you don't plan on sticking with Warrior, I'd say it would be a waste of time. The Relic chain is a really big time commitment. Its perk is that you get to choose your stats, but unless you're doing regular raid content it doesn't matter that much. Here is what I would suggest: Save up 1300 soldiery. Get an unidentified allagan tomestone out of Syrcus, and a sands of time. Turn those in for the i100 weathered axe, use the sand to upgrade it, and voila. You have a i110 axe. If past patch patterns stay the same, then you'll be able to do the same thing with the Magitek axe come 2.5. Eventually you'll be able to do the same thing and get into the i120-130 area. With the level cap increase on the horizon, starting a relic now, in my opinion, would mostly be for glamour. If you were sticking with Warrior and really liked the look of things, then I'd say go for it. But in this case you can save yourself a lot of time by just getting alternatives.

Oh, I almost forgot I was going to give some info to anyone who is wondering about the timing of the event. So if you don't want to read it all, just know this: You don't get to save time for the reception. It is 20 minutes no matter how fast you get through everything and then they boot you out. When you get in they give you 20 minutes to be in your dressing room. Here you finalize your plans and like any other point, can start earlier if you and your bond partner ring the bells. There's the entrance scene and a bit of talking before they give you 10 minutes to exchange vows if you'd like. We weren't expecting this, but we had other things planned so it wasn't a big deal. Just know it gives you that time up there if you'd like to write vows. Once all the little scenes are done they give you the 20 minute reception. I'd suggest having things a bit planned out as best you can if you want pictures and the like. We RP'd a little bit then dragged the group around to snap pics in different areas of the chapel. After the 20 minutes they show your exit scene then you all end up outside the chapel. So like I've mentioned, you DO NOT get to save your extra time for more reception. That was our thinking and we didn't get it. So don't rush the scenes if you're enjoying everything. You'll get the same time no matter what.

The armor I was wearing was the Mythril set dyed Pure White with Augmented Paladin Boots. One thing to keep in mind with armor is that you won't be able to see the ring on your finger when they put them on each other (which is what I wanted. Its a big 'ol magician ring for men, too). But yeah you can wear whatever, its nice. The cake is just a regular furniture item, its not even one of the food ones. It'll be bound like any other furniture, but yes you can pick it up and save it for later.

I'll just dump my brainstorms for idea building. I'm not saying "DO THIS" or "This is my fantastic idea" and more of "Here's the contents of my brain" I considered calling something like this the "Order of the White Hand." Basically the symbolism of the white hand is purity of action. Even though your thoughts or words may not always be pure or good or whatever else, what you DO and how you effect the world around you is important. Whatever you call or it what you focus on, there could be a really solid opening for different lines of philosophy. Like Socrates's "What is piety?" and "What is justice" sort of thinking. And his conversation about whether what is pious came before or after the gods. Or Kant style discussions of duty and the categorical imperative. Unless someone stops me, I might just keep ranting about random stuff hoping something has some validity.
-
I've been thinking along these same lines for quite a while now. For the past few weeks I've been toying with a similar idea. I've often been the Paladin persona in the games I've played, but the Paladins in this game are so politically specific it turned me off to it. After a year I've finally made my character into his own version of a Free Paladin. I've also thought of starting up a little stand-alone Order aside from FC affiliations. (I lead a corporation FC that hunts Voidsent) I've been wanting a lot more philosophy and for the lack of a better term, piety. So in short, I'm really interested in this. I would love to have some character sitting around discussing philosophy like in Socrates's day. Let me know if there is anything to help out. I think there's potential for a lot of fun here.

I don't know if you already have enough contributors, but I'll offer. So is the presentation in homage to the deities themselves? All that's probably answered in your PM, but it seems like a fun idea. If you have enough to work with already, no biggie. I'm happy to help out if you need it, though.

Missed out and Unsure about how to interact with RPers anymore
Gar replied to Aldotsk's topic in RP Discussion
All the good advice has pretty much been given out, so I thought I'd just offer a couple more connections for you if you're interested. My FC's OOC LS has RPers in it from a few different groups. Like Freelance mentioned, sometimes just setting something up prior instead of leaving it to chance can get some solid connections. If you'd like an LS invite, or want to set something up to come meet me and some of my mates, just let me know. Either way, I know finding RP can be a frustrating journey, so I hope you find more of what you're looking for. -
08/31/2014 Update: Changed the information to portray our new "Demon Hunter" model. We got rid of the corporation again since it wasn't being fully used, and was hindering the progression of those who RPed the group theme. The company house was entirely redone for the new theme, and its name has changed to the "Gatekeeper's Asylum." [The Main tab will be getting a statement tomorrow to overview the new mission statement and purpose of the company.]

The first turns of Coil don't have a lock out, and drop mostly outdated equipment. (Still good to get under various circumstances, obviously) I'm not sure why someone would set up a weekly Static for old raids, so I'll make it obvious: We're looking to raid the current content. As new content comes out, we'll be tackling that. Not going to be first on the server to down anything, but we hope to hold onto people for a long time so we can smash our faces against shinier fights as they come out.

Hello everyone! XI:7's Coil Static has an empty spot that we need to fill. We are looking for a Scholar. If you haven't run Coil before, it isn't a problem. We have helped people level up and get geared to be Coil ready, its not a big deal. We run on Saturday nights at 6 PST. The use of Teamspeak is required, but you don't have to have a mic or talk. We just need to be able to panic scream at you when mechanics are out to get us. Being RPers, we're not super concerned about burning turns super fast. We'll get them when we get them. However, we do ask for a level of commitment to learn your class, gear your class, and show up to raids. Life happens, obviously, so no one's expecting perfect attendance, but we do require communication for nights you can't make it. If you're interested or have questions, just let me know. You can reply here, send me a message, or catch me in game on Garryson Shipkeeper.

My short answer: Play with friends. I refuse to PUG even dungeons a lot of the time. The game's meant to be fun, and unfortunately our PvE community is full of angst. While there aren't always a ton, there are RPers who like to raid and play the content. Even if you don't join someone's FC, I'm sure there are groups needing another to fill the spot. Hell, my raid just got a couple spots that opened up. What class do you play? (I didn't post to recruit you, I promise.) But yeah, my advice would be to find RPers who like to raid. Its typically a lot less stressful. And playing with the same people every week, you get to know them and can trust them. I think that would lower the anxiety over time if you had a steady foundation of people.

The Monks are linked to Ala Mhigo before it was taken over by Garlemald. They were an order called the Fist of Rhalgr. (Ala Mhigo's patron deity) King Theodoric, who was ruling Ala Mhigo before the invasion, saw them as a threat and destroyed their temple and most of their order. A few got away, one of which being the Monk quest giver who turns out to be an resistance fighter for occupied Ala Mhigo. The questline involves finding ancient battlefields because when a person dies they leave some sort of aetherial phenomenon behind (I think it explains ghosts in this universe) Your character uses those pockets of aether to unlock chakra, ultimately mastering things probably faster than you should. A PC having ties to the Monks is pretty easy on this one. Monks-In-Hiding could potentially train new adventurers.

A lot of things have already been covered, but wanted to throw in my 2 gil. Opening up with Steel Cyclone and a few Overpowers gets a good start. Try to have your party list somewhere easily seen, so you can quickly gauge each target's aggro tables. Already been covered, but Provoke is a must-have for any 50 content. Having people to run with really is a good way to get practice in without burning out in the awful PUG community. Take it or leave it, I won't be offended, but you're more than welcome to join XI:7's OOC LS. We have a lot of people who enjoy helping people out and running whatever content. Tanking in this game is awesome. Once you get everything down and get into the feel o fit, it engages you more than a lot of other games have done (for me, anyway) Let me know if you'd like an invite. If not, best of luck to ya as you learn.

07/27/2014 Update: Changed the Division information. Uploaded a picture of the company housing. (Why not?)

I have to start out with one of my all-time favorite heroes. Lloyd Irving from Tales of Symphonia. Garryson has similar views on being a hero and idealism of a world that can work for everyone. Like Lloyd, he isn't the best at everything, but he doesn't let that stop him from trying and helping others to try. Akira Takizawa, or "The Air King" from Eden of the East. Takizawa never backed down from doing what had to be done to make his country a better place. He made himself out to be the villain for the greater good. He also constantly disappears to shoulder the burden alone, a trait Garryson has. Garryson is always trying to do everything himself, taking what burdens he can onto his own shoulders so that others don't have to. I take a few different things from Holland Novak of Eureka 7. Garryson's jaded sense of reality and leadership pull from Holland's style. Garryson, like Holland, has the personality of a rider, aching for freedom and exhilaration. Coupled with the side of him that is a social renegade is the level headed, sometimes emotionless, leadership of necessity. Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist. A lot of Garryson's childhood has similarities with the Elric brothers. He has sins he eternally holds onto, seeking redemption and feeling like he doesn't deserve a home to return to until he's redeemed his soul. He has seen far too much of the darker side of life from an early age, which forced him to grow up too fast. These are the biggest influences on my character. A jaded, but deep down idealistic, hero.

Hello everyone! XI:7's raid static is looking to fill a spot in our weekly raids. We run every Saturday night at 6 PST. We're currently looking for a Caster. While we would prefer to bring a Summoner in, if we find a Black Mage we like it won't be a problem. We're currently gearing up a few new people/role switches, so if you don't have a lot of gear that isn't a problem. We can help get you gear and teach you the fights, so if you haven't done any raiding but would like to, we are more than happy to bring you in. Life happens and people can't make it to every single raid, but we are looking for someone who can regularly make it on the raid night. We also expect our raiders to gear out their class, learn their class, and be willing to learn and grow as we get into tougher fights. That being said, we're a bunch of RPers. We're not looking to burn through content super fast. We're relaxed, but we do want to progress. If you are interested or have questions, feel free to post here, send me a PM, or get hold of me in-game. (Garryson Shipkeeper)

I recently talked to all the NPCs at the Coral Tower, and it gave some insight onto the Yellowjackets. I'd suggest going and talking to NPCs around town since I can't remember everything they said (I wasn't actively trying to learn anything) I do remember them saying that the Yellowjackets used to be part of the Knights of the Barracuda. Quite a few of them have guns, too. If they don't have an axe, they have a gun. So they're a bit unique in that they pull from Marauder and . Unless the Blades have like... Pugilists in them and I never noticed... I gotta start paying attention to things.

I know what I said. (I'm totally kidding, that was either a typo or a Freudian slip, whichever.)

I voted for the Missing Member. Like its been sorta mentioned, its off the beaten path so you don't have a ton of people just running through all the time like the Adventurer's Guilds. The lack of space sucks, yes, but we can sort of branch out from there as it fills up. There are a couple of balconies, plus you can start to branch out right into the Aftcastle a bit. Its a good spot to start off in, find people to talk to, then spread your legs if it becomes needful. For the purposes we're hoping to get out of it, I think it works the best, but as long as somewhere is picked I think we'll be fine.

My FC has started playing IC poker using the site pokerrpg.com You can set the table to give you a long time for your turn, so you can RP your turn/conversation without worrying about the clock ticking. Just a suggestion for people wanting to IC gamble. I've actually always liked the whole RP gambling thing. I want to look into other forms that we can flesh out. It'd be fun to have a little casino to hang out and gamble. (Totally a Limsa flair to me)

I won't disagree with your overall point. My group and I are more than happy to participate/help with whatever it is the people want. Hell, I'm more than happy to just participate in something and have zero responsibility. But I don't agree there is going to be any favoritism. This is a community project. From what I've seen, its about getting more RP going and more connections made. There doesn't have to be one storyline at a time. By that same argument we won't be able to use anyone's FC house because that would be pushing that FC. Let's not throw the baby out with the bath water here. Keeping it vague and open has its definite perks, but whatever happens someone has to be writing the rules. RP doesn't have a natural order like the real world does. Even basic physics has to be agreed on by everyone involved. I don't care who or what it is, but there has to be a body making decisions. Like Rurutani mentioned, it'd make sense to connect FCs ands groups to it alongside individual characters. So let's make peoples' houses RP spots and interconnect plotlines. I'm not going to worry about who's more popular, but what RP we can create for the community.

[LO/LS/PS] XI:7 IC: XI:7 is a multi-faceted corporation living under the motto "Noblesse Oblige" or the obligation of those with power or influence to use it for the greater good. The ultimate goal is to bring the Seventh Dawn to the world, ushering in an age of peace. However, that goal is far from reach, so the company works to bring the world closer one day at a time. Needing resources to make a great change in the world, they are invested in manufacturing, transportation, research and development, and any other market they can use to invest in the realm. OOC: Think ShinRa, but for the good guys. XI:7 is a very public company, so they work within the law and work to uphold the law, however I added in Predatory Society because they are aggressive in gaining territory of influence and doing what they can to gain more power. Some areas of the company works like a mafia because they believe in having the power for themselves so someone corruptible won't have it. We are always happy to bring in new recruits, however we only bring people into the FC who maintain a level of appropriate behavior, both IC and OOC. We have no interest in becoming an overly large company, so we bring in those we can actually get to know and play alongside with. Plot Rant: While our company can go a lot of different directions with plots and being involved with them, we have a couple of long-standing story arcs. The first is about a rival corporation named "Genesis." Genesis was created by a group of Ala Mhigan refugees and on the surface is a corporation similar to XI:7. However, the true goal is to lead the world into its own destruction, so that a new order can be built from scratch. They want to erase every race that is not Hyur and stop the use of magic so that there is an equality in the masses. They keep a clean record, so this plotline deals a lot with corporate espionage/warfare that happens beyond the public eye. Another plotline is that of the Smiling Demon, an alias given to a man that travels the realm wearing a smiling mask. This man (or whatever he is) preys on those who have lost loved ones that they feel they cannot live without. Since the Calamity, there has been many he could reach out to. He strikes a deal with these broken hearted individuals in order to bring their loved ones back, however they are not as they once were. The plotline revolves around investigating the nature of this man's dark deals and finding a way to stop them all together. I only rant about these because both could easily be opened up to involve more of the community. Now, I'm not saying "You should be interested in my plot!" I'm perfectly fine keeping the plots in house, however if there are those who want to jump in and play a part, I'm more than happy to oblige. I also like the idea of more community-based plots, so if enough people get interested/involved, I'd happily help brainstorm and plan new plots for everyone to sink their teeth into.
