Here are some things we've talked about including in the podcast: Recording time: Wednesdays at 5pm EST, Running time is approx. 1 hour -General FFXIV News/Updates (and how they affect RP) -Brief Newspaper coverage -Guild RP - what's happening in our guilds -Interesting storylines -Answering/Commenting on listener input (from email/forums) -Skype Calls (Call us w/ a topic you want us to talk about) -Role-Playing woes (What works and what doesn't) -"RL" and FFXIV -Music (1-2 songs per podcast) -Event advertisement and of course other shenanigans! What do you think? Should we add/remove something?
  3. Good job, thanks! I advise everyone to make a list of possible names for your main just in case it's taken.
  4. Me thinks it's time to wrap it up. Going to find a way out, unless someone wants to provide a way out for me heh The 1st RP thread has gone on for so long, I feel like starting something different.
  5. I was initially interested in Gridania. Now I am not sure, swayed to Ul'dah. It felt like there was less info about Gridania, the description seemed general. I can def see how Mason would fit in nicely in Ul'dah, even though I generally dislike desert cities. The starting city would be where he grew up, as an adult he is a traveler anyway so the city only matters in terms of background to me.
  6. Ah, just had a long walk down memory lane.
  7. Yecely opened her mouth but stopped short when Doc started talking to another patron. "Oh well," she thought to herself while pursing her lips to the side. Whiskeyjack seemed to finally be leaving. What arrogance! She recalled their conversation and tensed her brow. "Whatever..." she made her way back to the table at about the same time as Ora and sat back on her place. She glanced at Myra and raised her eyebrows up and down while her mouth, while tight-lipped, drew out a smile.
  8. Maybe they are just in cut scenes but it looks like there are different types of masks... hopefully we can wear em, would make for fun villains haha EDIT I watched the battle systems video... I was kinda taken out of the experience because of the artificial sounds that are made when (I guess) you give the command. That "button" beeping sound, if it could be turned off, that'd be awesome.
  9. "Interesting." Yecely thought to herself. She overheard this man mumbling to himself, although his exact words were unclear, drowned out by the rest of the tavern. His question however rang out at a point when all talking stopped. She thought of being witty and replying that this is Gridania or something, but held on to that remark. "Limsa Lominsa," she said, casually leaning against the bar. She couldn't help herself and added, "and this is something we call a tavern." She chuckled, clearly not meaning to do the stranger any harm. "Who would you be, anyway?"
  10. "Evasive bastard..." Yecely mumbled under he breath as Whiskeyjack went back to the table. Her quill never stopped moving, except when pausing for more ink. After she was done writing whatever it was she was writing, she sat at her table alone. She puffed her cheeks and blew out the air slowly. What a bummer. A glance back at her previous location didn't motivate her to return. Why did this Whiskeyjack and his lackey have to join them. She wished they would just leave. Yecely finally got up after packing all her things into her little brown leather backpack. She made her way to the bar and ordered another large glass of wine. It was either that or leaving, and going back to her tiny flat was even more depressing. She examined the table and felt compelled to join Myra and the girl she dragged there, Luralel, in conversation. Perhaps in five minutes, after a sip or two of this cool wine she would. For now she just stood there at the bar, facing outward towards the main space with a glass of red wine in her hand.
  11. Yecely's quill was faster than some folk's swordplay. It dashed upon a blank page which quickly became filled with notes. She made eye contact for a moment before bringing her eyes down to the page. "You seem to grab a lot of attention around here. I know your name, but who exactly are you? Please, indulge me." A grin crossed her face as she looked somewhat seductively to the man standing before her. This glance passed by just as quickly as the first.
  12. Yecely gazed up at Two-Patch Whiskeyjack, "Yecely. I won't be refilling this glass," she raised her large empty glass which used to have wine in it. "It's the middle of the day." She looked at Myra who seemed to be uncomfortable with Whiskeyjack hanging around next to her. "Pardon me," she said to Luralel as she left her side. She came closer to Whiskeyjack and tapped him on the arm, beckoning him to lean in. Once he did, she whispered "see that table over there," she pointed to a table near the wall with her eyes where she sat before joining Myra. It still had some of her things on it, newspapers mostly. "Can I have word with you?"
  13. "My name is Yecely, and that's my new friend Myra. Let me introduce you," she sipped her wine and made her way to the table where Myra sat. "See that wasn't difficult," Yecely told Myra and smiled. "Myra this is Luralel, Luralel this is Myra." While the two exchanged pleasantries Yecely took the chance to finish her wine. "Hey Myra tell her your theory. You know something about women in a larger group?"
  14. Yecely grinned as she absorbed Myra's words. A journalist knew when words were being used to sway a person one way or the other. "Otherwise they win," Yecely repeated in her head, "wow." "I'm after a particular story and I doubt I will get any leads here. It's turning into an... interesting day though." She smirked and followed Myra's pointer to the Elezen woman at the bar. It seemed like she was about to leave. "You want her to join us? Alright... let me go and ask her." Before Myra could reply, Yecely was off her chair, wine glass in hand, walking briskly towards the Elezen. Yecely tapped her on her arm. "Hey there, I'm Yecely and over there is Myra. Don't worry we aren't trying to sell anything. Would you sit and chat with us, you seem interesting... at least Myra there thinks so." Yecely grinned and gave Myra a quick wink. Myra probably didn't hear what Yecely said, but Yecely found it amusing nonetheless. The wine has worked it's way into her head.
  15. All the noise killed Yecely's buzz from the wine and she couldn't bare to even think about working in this environment. "Listen, I should go. It's gotten a bit too rowdy here for my tastes," Yecely said calmly as she made out a note. "Here is the address to where I'm staying. Come for a visit, we can talk." She looked around at the patrons, especially men who can potentially make passes at her on her way out. A route with least interruptions was set in her mind and now all she had to do was collect her things. But before going she looked in Myra's eyes to try to decipher what her new acquaintance was thinking. Yecely didn't want to admit to herself that she was looking for an excuse to stay.
  16. "The crows!" Yecely giggled to herself. "Sorry, that's what my granddad used to say about hunting down news stories. Follow the crows!" She smiled again. "I'm a writer. A journalist, to be more specific. I've got a little job at the local paper for now ((don't know the name if there is one, please let me know if I've missed it)). But of course it doesn't pay very well, so I have to resort to trying to break a big story independently." She sipped from her goblet of a glass, "which makes journalism sound much more exciting than it usually is." "It's interesting, I think teaching is such a noble profession. Do you specialize in any particular field of study?" Yecely disengaged eye contact for a moment and looked around the tavern. The sly Elezen was at the bar drinking with his buddy now. She was interested to take a look at the woman who was just making somewhat of a scene right next to them but couldn't see her because Myra was in the way. Leaning over on her chair to take a peek seemed a little impolite, although tempting. She fixed her gaze back to Myra. She felt at ease talking to this stranger. They've only just met but it seemed like they knew eachother much longer. Yecely doubted that the feeling was mutual. Myra seemed reserved, almost cautious. "She still might think I'm trying to sell her something," Yecely grinned. She remembered coming back to Limsa Lominsa, her first day in a decade on this isle-city. It's as if every beggar, thief, and street merchant saw that she was new in town, tried their luck on her. Some succeed. Yecely remembered staring into the water, her own reflection looking back at her, cursing her for all those dumb mistakes. The same reflection now stared back at her from her wine glass as she took a large gulp while listening to Myra's reply.
  17. "Not at all," replied Yecely while quickly looking at the Lalafell boy emerging from underneath a nearby table. "I've not seen you around here, are you new to this town?" Yecely took a sip from her glass of wine and added "I've just moved here myself," before Myra can reply.
  18. On a second go around with Dragon Age. Sims 3 World Adventures Braid FIFA 10 Empire: Total War Sid Meier's Pirates! Some of those are old, but still fun to play sometimes.
  19. Yecely sat quietly in the shade. The table before her was illuminated by the sunlight from outside. On the table were a few scattered newspapers from two days past, a pencil, ink and a pen. A rather large wine glass stood on the corner of the table, barely touched. She pushed her reading glasses up as she read from a leather bound journal which she held in her hands. Yecely mouthed the words on the paged to herself. She was proofreading her article. It was due tomorrow. Her eyes traced the woman who just came in. Her eyes also darted to the Elezen who winked at the newcomer. Yecely knew how this new patron felt at that very moment. The same guy was trying to buy her a drink just half an hour ego. Yecely's gaze was analytical by nature, and she could somehow tell this woman wasn't a native. Neither was she. She considered introducing herself, maybe making a friend. She noticed that the Elezen was about to make his move. She quickly left her makeshift workstation, took her glass of wine and joined the lone woman. "Hey there. What's your name?" The Hyur woman gently pushed back a chair and sat in it. The sun played with her brown eyes, giving them a warm tone. "I'm Yecely."
  20. Was going to ask the same thing. I know that emails were supposed to go out (one of them to you, Ren) to start figuring out the time when we're free to record.
  21. To me god-mode is pretty simple. Make sure your character CAN take hits and leave wiggle room for another character to react when emoting. Most of god-mode can be done away with if you steer clear of these two. Meta-gaming on the other hand is more tricky. We all meta-game. It's just a matter of to what extent can it go. For example we all speak English, use vocabulary, syntax etc. that we learned in RL within the game. Most of gaming is meta-gaming because we use the RL as a frame of reference to an extent. Where it gets out of hand is when someone reads something OOC and then their character changes their behavior because of what the player has read. In a perfect RP-world we could just forget all OOC when we play but I don't think it's possible. We see the possibilities of stories and events with others as we read their story posts and drive our characters in that direction. Yet from my experience it's not considered foul, in fact both parties use the OOC knowledge to develop a story willingly. There are many indirect meta-gaming scenarios that we should keep in mind. We should separate those from the worst ones, where a character just knows things they shouldn't.
  22. Lucky me, my character's bday is exactly the same month of the god he would worship anyway
  23. Surely you didn't expect a top of the line video card there as well... but, have yourself a peek at buy.com I was quite surprised myself. Remember I am talking about refurbished. Brand new is of course more expensive.
  24. 2TB is great I've got a lot of movies/shows/comics/music/pics on my 1TB external, and some on my 500gig internal and I am almost maxed out. I'll try to weed out some stuff that's not so good and keep the favorites... but I might need an additional 2TB external HD myself soon. In short, yes I do have half the interwebs... in movies anyway 12gig RAM does seem like a lot but I donno... requirements for games keep going up and I'm sure 12gig RAM will be standard in average PCs in a year or two. I see refurbished PCs with 8gigs RAM going for like $600 now- so yeah... not sure why but you need more RAM to keep up with new software. >_>; Personally I'm gonna stop at 6 on my current PC.
