Episode 12 - More or Less, is up and in the bag. When writing in RP, how much is to much or two little? When is one better than the other? Also, responses to Sibh's, "What do you listen to while RPing?" Check it out! https://rpmmoradio.podbean.com/e/episode-12-more-or-less/

Good King Mooglemog day! We'll be doing a live episode today at 6 CST at twitch.tv/RPMMOradio and talking about Trolls! Not those trolls, but the kind that interrupt RP and try to ruin our fun. Tune in live or join us on the podcast later at iTune or Googeplay. Happy April Fools everyone... except for that one Moogle... he knows who he is.

Today's the day! For anyone not watching the Superbowl (Who programed this show anyway? Geez, way to think ahead!) tune in at 5 CST on twitch or visit www.rpmmoradio.com for links to the podcast. If you have something you'd like to say or questions to ask you can email the show at [email protected] and we'll read it on future episodes. We're just going to introduce ourselves and talk about why would anyone bother to RP in a game and what people get out of it. Hope to see you there

Greetings! Hopefully it's okay to announce this here, if not, let me know I'll understand. I will be beginning a livestream/podcast about role playing in MMO's starting this Sunday at 5PM CST over at https://www.twitch.tv/rpmmoradio. While I am currently playing and RPing in FF14 it won't be focused just on RP there but rather what it is like to do it in MMO's as a genre as opposed to table top RP stuff. I've been RPing in games for over a decade now as has one of the other hosts of the show and another newer RPer with only a few years of doing so. We're looking to be entertaining and informative and given there seems to be very few RP podcasts the focus on MMO's (None that I could find that weren't single game focused) hopefully you'll give us a shot. So, please feel free to tune in this Sunday and I and the rest of the crew hope to see you there! Thanks for your time!

It's kind of like a successful business. If you go out looking for money (votes) and everything you do is towards that, you'll likely fail. However, if you go into business because there's a niche and you love doing it and you do it well, people will come and then keep coming back. Internet popularity has a lot of people trying the first method but many of the most successful only end up there because they did it just for themselves and just happened to find people that liked what they were doing. So you just have to do it because it makes you happy. Whatever else happens is really nothing you can control so you might as well do what you want do do the most.

Finally got myself a bit of time to sit and think, somethin’ I don’t get to do as much as I should, but it ain’t exactly by accident. Thinkin’ always leads backwards and there’s nothing back that way. Only forward, always forward. Things have been moving along, some faster than others, but moving. Been, “putting myself out there” as they say. Actually, you know what, reading that after I wrote it, I don’t think I’ll say that. Makes it sound like I’m sellin’ myself on a street corner in Ul’Dah or, worse, one of them fellows that sits around a bar givin’ the creepy eye to women that clearly want nothing to do with him. So, let’s see, I’ve been trying to give a damn about people around me. That works. Some folks, it’s really easy, others…. Well, they’re others. Most of the folks from Ren are easy enough to speak with, Yuoriey is as well, maybe even too easy. Also there’s a few from a new position I’ve taken as an instructor in the Eorzean Garden. Many are instructors like myself, the rest are students. Kids really, eighteen and under come to learn various skills. We’ll see how well it goes, I’ve my first class this comin’ week. Lot of Domans and others from Othard in the Garden. I don’t know why it makes my uncomfortable. Hearing the old tongue from my youth, the mannerisms, the culture. Too many bad memories with the good, mayhap? Speakin’ of memories, I shared some with Yuoriey. We all had ugly hit us during the Calamity, myself included and when I told her some, she shut down. So much so, the next time I saw her, she didn’t remember it. Whatever happened to her, I think it broke part of her. She’s a bit flighty and silly minded, but not stupid or slow. I can see why people might think that but, people are shallow creatures and don’t look much below what’s right in front of them. Anyroad, she told me a story about knotted bracelet and two girls that were separated and found each other years later still wearin’ them. “Forget my knots”, she called them. She has two and gave me two as well that she had made herself. I was actually touched by the gesture. I hadn’t gotten a gift that weren’t a bonus or a tip for my work in near six years now. Though, inline with the story, I gave he one back to wear. Like her story she loved to much about the two girls that never forgot each other. Of course it weren’t until later layin’ in bed at about one in the morn that I realized her two bracelets were likely for her parents and my two were for… I’m glad I gave her the one though, even still. She’s a sweet woman, smart too, and since meeting her I’ve noticed a change, read above to figure out what that might be. Bah, women, right? Only creatures what can get in a man’s head and one up a parasite on how deep they can dig in. Fool, horrible, beautifully amazing things. Alright, that’s about it for now, ain’t much else I feel like goin’ over at the moment. Take care.

Alright so, a Garlean experiment on a moogle that gave them magitek cyborg enhancements including a cloaking field that mimics the appearance and feel of a human type person! Kidding aside, it happens to lots of people. Start with one idea, another one that might be neater or more interesting to you comes in, then another, ect ect. Like the others said, it's not so much the concepts or things that happen to the character as it is the base, solid core, foundation of the character itself. Just like people, you take away your job, you're still you.. you're a more stressed and slightly poorer version, but you all the same. The thing with creating a past for a character is, just like us, it doesn't have to be just about one thing. No one person is made up a single event in their life but a collection of them. So if you come up with something else later, just.. find some place it fits in the time line if you really want it to exist and tweek and nudge from there. I always have an idea of past history for my character in my head and add to it as RP and idea's come up that make sense. Especially for ADHD types of people. There's nothing wrong with it really, but one thing that does help keep it solid, is having RP'd with others that know of it. Once it's out there, retconning it for a new idea just isn't something you'd want to do so it helps you keep with it and then, just add more later.

Eorzea Garden: Brand NEW RP Linkshell (Accepting new members)
Reylin replied to Laguna Lestrange's topic in Chronicles
That was a great deal of fun! Thank you for putting it together. I'd be happy to be an instructor. Reylin is 31 years old and is a Doman trained Shinobi though he doesn't go about flaunting or really talking about it. His doman past he keeps pretty tight about to the point he doesn't even sound Doman anymore and has also been in Eorzea since before the Calimity. So his combat skills are hand to hand and short blades as well as a few other styles of weapons. He believes firmly in trying to balance things in life and has a lot of experiences in dealing with personal failures and failings. He's not a terrible cook either given his time as hired blade for caravans and merchants between cities. Man learns to cook by fire, he can cook anything. Looking forward to meeting new folks and RP! -
Heavensturn Resolutions That Will Most Certainly Be Ignored

Not run around trying to do things like a cat with 15 laser pointers in the same room. -
Ethys Asher has a great 1.0 story background video here. It explains a great deal of background leading up and including the Calamity and a lot of stuff before, like the Aegis in Mor Dona ect ect. This helped clear up a lot of lore history for me as well as what the above said. DjZgp8mUrog

Eorzea Garden: Brand NEW RP Linkshell (Accepting new members)
Reylin replied to Laguna Lestrange's topic in Chronicles
Sersi *points up* pointed me at this. It's a neat idea and I'd like to see more about it through RP too. Character is "older" (For FF) in his 30's and does have skills and job stuff as well as a past, but you never do stop learning, so I'd love to see how it all works out. -

Very cool idea! Toss my name in the hat! -
Just like in RL, when a stranger sits next to you at a bar, it's up to the female to make the first move! Shoots, most places I go to, if someone sat next to me they're just someone sitting next to me. In RP, if someone sits down or comes in and doesn't emote a single thing, they're basically not there. They don't have to "say" anything but you should at least type that you're there and sitting silently. Unlike RL in RP we can't see you doing anything else. This guy just sounds like an attention whore type that expects you to know "who I am" and engage for some reason. The RP tag is a good thing, but it's not a "YOU MUST ENGAGE MEH!" sign. Brush it off I say.

Much of the speech I used from Justified as well as some of the attitude, along with a good helping of Malcom Reynolds. The idea of a cowboy ninja just sounded fun so, I went with it. 6vNRZCLgxng -eqnu1N8bu8

First off... I had to look up what a weeb was. I learned something. Second of all, it can be hard to get into groups. I'm new to game and RP in FF14 and outside of my old EQ2 friends, I still haven't really met anyone outside of the Grindstone (All of which are cool folks to fight with) and nothing lasting. It sucks to feel ignored and just know that, it isn't just a feeling. But those that just flat out ignore people are in in the minority. A lot of people are just either shy, or their character isn't that out going, or the player just flat out misses it. Cliques are a definitely a thing, always will be everywhere. It's just a matter of finding the one that "clicks" (HA!) with you as well. With a community as big as this one, that can take some time to weed through it all. Just hang in there, it'll happen sooner or later. Also, feel free to poke me ingame, promise to respond and say hello maybe even RP! Reylin Sephr.

There's the Garlean people in the Empire and then there's the "pure-blood" as Cid called it. All under the same name sure, but the pure-bloods are definitely a different species unto themselves.

To be fair, every character a person place is likely a "special snowflake" to them. ( could be misunderstanding its use here, I always see "snowflake" in a negative way these days) Else we'd all be playing the same character and no one would be special or interesting. The problem isn't coming up with something that has to be unique for the sake of it being unique but just finding interesting ways to develop or us them. Just like RL people, they should evolve over time and with RP. Their opinions, values, morals, ect ect, might not be the same after all is said and done. All that said, if you are looking for something that isn't what you said, try something more mundane and simplistic in a day to day life sense. As Koen said, even loss can be a driving force of motivation but not for the "feel sorry for me!" value, but as a life changing event for the better as much as the worse.

I'm sorta new to the RP scene here and would love to branch out more. I tried contacting a few people but likely they aren't on (Since it doesn't tell me someone isn't online in a /t) An invite would be fantastic on Reylin Sephr. Thanks!

I'm a good 36 hours into it and on Chapter 10ish. I've enjoyed the exploration and side quests and the main story so far. Is it perfect? Nah, but it's better than the 12 and the forty or so FF13 games. I think people forget what Final Fantasy games are like that aren't 14. They're disjointed, often silly and kind of run the gambit. There's a lot more here than people are finding I think. The Adamantoise for example, was pretty amazing as well as several other things found randomly. I do think over all, I will like the Witcher 3 better sure, but on its own merits FF15 is plenty enough if you really dig deep and don't rush through it and just enjoy the trip, as it were.

They aren't on Balmung, which probably does make it easier. Thanks for the link to the other thread! I just wanted to make sure I wasn't suddenly out of touch with how RP has changed in other games over the years. I've spend a large chunk in EQ2 and know little things change community to community but that was a rather large one.
